I was told that this place was as good as "In-N-Out"... 1. Oily-soggy fries. I ate at the restaurant and they were soggy. 2. No custom orders on the hamburger. Is asking to remove the pickles so custom? 3. The hamburger was fresh compared to a microwave burger but the taste is the same as a microwave burger. Not worth the time... Considering the long lines that Dick's regularly attracted during my week stay in Seattle I expected to be blown away by a local culinary delight. Alas, their food was only slightly above average. The burgers and fries were fine, certainly better than the offerings at most fast food joints, but couldn't hold a candle to the menu at my beloved 5 Guys. The thick vanilla milkshake was the highlight of my meal; I am something of a milkshake connoisseur and have sampled shakes from all over the country. I was annoyed by Dick's policy of charging extra for condiments. I had no problem with the cost, spending an extra five cents per dollop wouldn't set me back much, but only after sitting down at my booth did I realize that I was in dire need of ketchup. I didn't feel like standing in another fifteen-minute line just so I could order some condiments so I was forced to choke down my fries without the aid of a dipping sauce. What an inconvenience! After leaving the restaurant, I took an Uber back to my hotel and the driver explained to me how the cost of living in Seattle has gone up because many high-tech companies with deep pockets have relocated to the Emerald City. Big businesses with a huge number of white collar employees like Amazon and Microsoft have driven up the cost of real estate and now the middle and lower classes are struggling to pay their bills. I guess Seattleeites are trying to make money any way they can, even by charging an extra fee per Dixie cup of ketchup. read more

I can't remember the last time I had fast food before Dick's. I never crave it, but if I'm in a bind and only have 20 minutes before I have to catch a flight, I'll suck it up and do it. Dick's made me wish I stayed hungry. I had a mediocre McDonald's-style cheeseburger and cold, salty, overdone fries. Lines are pretty long during peak hours, and service doesn't do much to expedite the waiting process. The menu is also pre-fixed; you can't add vegetables to a standard menu item. Condiments are sold separately for a nickel or dime per packet. All items are really inexpensive ($1.65 for a burger and less than $1 for fries), but given the quality of the food, you can easily see why. Not sure what all this hype is about - I'll be on the hunt for a solid burger joint in Seattle the next time I'm in the area. read more

This place is not worth your money! Honestly I'd rather eat at McDonald's than eat here again. I only went because it was recommended to me as a local food chain. Keep in mind that burgers are not customizable so if you don't want a condiment like mustard on your burger, you'll have to get there most basic item in the menu. The time I went, I would have had to wait 20 minutes to get a deluxe burger so I opted to try their most basic hamburger. The burgers, fries and shakes aren't fancy, but if you're looking for fancy, odds are you're not going to try some place named "Dick's." What you'll find here is good, quality 50's diner style food at reasonable prices, and if you've been eating in the Seattle area for long, you'll realize that REASONABLE prices are hard to find. They make a limited number of items, ala In-and-Out Burger style, but everything they make is damn tasty. Also, the dipping sauce, while having the appearance of snot, is flipping addictive and you will want to get several little dishes of it for your fries. They're a cash only kind of place, which can be annoying if you don't know that walking in, but two people can eat here for less than $10. Also, bear in mind that it's part of their business model to not allow customizations on their burgers, so I encourage you to give them a little trust. You'll be glad you did! Check them out at this location or at any of the other ones in the Seattle area. They don't do custom orders, what is on the menu is non-negotiable. The cashier told me it was because it was part of a fine tuned process to be fast as possible; they just make as many of the 4 types as possible and all the cashier has to do/can do is press a button for each item. I'm not super picky but what kind of monster puts mayo on their burgers? That is half of the options that don't work for me so I just went with a regular and some fries. They must know what they are doing right? The burger looked pretty much what you'd get out of a value meal at McDonalds and tasted about the same, not terribly distinct, but the ketchup was strangely too sweet. Its an odd thing to get caught up on but with the portions involved (pretty small patty) it pretty much dominated the burger and I felt like i'd just eaten a cake or something. I don't know what mastermind came up with their menu but would just a burger with nothing on it be a strain? I would be fine using my own condiments if it meant avoiding that ketchup. The fries were OK, pretty much on par with what you'd expect at a fast food chain, nothing special but not bad. I'm pretty confused by this place honestly. When I went (which was kind of mid-day between lunch and dinner) it was completely packed with a line out the door. The fact they are cash only pretty much negated any of the time from negotiating orders as far as I could tell. The whole thing, the string menu, being cash only etc all seems to work towards keeping the food as cheap as possible, which is something they definitely achieved. I may not be good but it definitely is cheap. I wont be going back though because even without that ketchup its nearly cafeteria grade, not something i'd stand in a line for. My favorite Seattle fast food burger chain. If you are from the area there is something both nostalgic and novel about Dick's burgers. They were an old school hardy grease bag of a burger joint that for 45+ years only took cash. If you haven't heard the news: they now take CARD. *Party emoji* There's a time and a place for a good cheap burger and dicks has it nailed down. They're open late night, so for a long time they were the best answer to a pre-hangover cure. Get a couple deluxe burgers, some fries and a chocolate shake. Dip those fries in your shake and go to town. This particular location bonuses because they have a large free private parking lot. And an indoor dinning area, for those of you who have been to their walk up only locations. We had heard so much about how wonderful and cheap Dicks was so we decided to give it a try. Wow were we disappointed. My husband and I ordered the deluxe burger with fries and he got a diet soda and I got a float. Our guest ordered a deluxe and asked for no mayo. He was rudely told it couldn't be done and if he wanted a burger with no mayo he had to get a regular cheeseburger. So he did along with an order of fries. The total came to $18 for the three of us. We found out they do not accept debit cards so I had to use the ATM and pay an extra $2.50 for the fees.The fries while soggy and greasy were not too bad. The deluxe burgers had no taste at all. My favorite Dick's - easy parking and you can sit inside to eat. The girls love to eat here before any event that we go to at Seattle Center. I like their deluxe and the shakes. We would have never gone to this place if it weren't across the street from our hotel. When you have a late arrival into town and there is a eatery open, you go. My first impression: like a hot hamburger time machine, I was transported to college. They were barely hitting 21 here, the prices were ridonkulously low and there was trash all over the floor and tables. Needless to say, I was still intrigued. It must have been the hunger pang. Got the deluxe burger, fries and choco shake. (You gotta try the shake when they sell the mix on the 10 item or less menu.) All this food for less about five bucks! (Give or take the .05 condiments) The burgers were just average, perhaps too much on the soggy side for me. Also, even though I love cheese on my burgers, the cheese on here just made it even soggier. Not too much flavor outside of aforementioned cheese. The fries were addictive and the shake was awesome. The chocolate in the shake was a gritty, but it made the choco-goodness last longer. Good stuff. You get your money's worth, but don't expect much more than that. We heard from a local who grew up in Queen Anne that this is a local institution. Glad we stopped by for the nostalgia and food to extinguish our late night hunger. (They close at 2am I think.) Dick's is both terrible and wonderful. You are not getting a restaurant-style burger for cheap, you are getting a cheap burger that's actually good. Do not order the fries, which are dry and boring. Really, though, there's nothing particularly novel about Dick's. I go there because for $5 I can get a fast food meal that doesn't make me feel guilty or dirty. If you care about the burger as an art form, go somewhere else. The McMenamins on Roy Street will give you a burger on a kaiser roll, but don't expect to get it for $2.25. The Queen Anne Dick's is special because not only can you sit down, but they have a bathroom. Weird, huh? This was the very first Dick's I had ever experienced. When I used to live across the water over in North Kitsap a group of friends and I would always catch the ferry to head to Seattle and go to Hot Import Nights or sporting events, and the one place that we would always hit up would be Dick's. It was an absolute must for us since we didn't have anything like this in Poulsbo. This place was the beginning for my love of Dick's. Back then though I remember the cheese burgers being 50 cents and the deluxe being something like $1.75. It's still a great deal now. I have had a lot of great memories visiting here. Sometimes I know it's not the cleanest place and every once in a while there is a homeless person sleeping on one of the booths, but that's what gives it a true Seattle charm. read more

Slim pickings in the wee hours!. So I stumbled out of a concert recently, feeling rather peckish. As I went to my hotel, I came across Dicks. And then I saw the restaurant! Ahahaha. But seriously. Reading the reviews they are an institution in Seattle apparently, but I feel its an institution of mediocrity. The server looked bored and annoyed he was at work, mind you it was around 2am, but still, if you are going to be open.... I hate mayonnaise and was flummoxed that my burger Had to have it, no substitutions. The burger was average, nothing great, nothing really bad, although the veggies on it did not look inspiring at all. The fries were good, and so was the chocolate shake. We started to order and asked for no mustard and were told, "we pre-make them so no substitutions." my father tried to reason with them and they flat out refused. My goodness, it was my first time here last week and I left completely satisfied. If you visit Seattle and you want a quick bite, with cheap prices and mouth-watering food, you must go here. It's a burger joint with such a classic old school feel. Regular hamburgers with ketchup and mild mustard are $1.25; cheeseburgers with ketchup and mild mustard are $1.50; the special with lettuce mayo and pickle relish is $1.80; and the deluxe with melted cheese lettuce mayo and pickle relish is $2.70. In comparison to In n out, you can't really customize your burger -although you can add extra condiments such as ketchup, onions, tartar sauce, etc. for only 5 cents. My male cousins preferred In n out over Dicks, whereas my female cousins and I preferred Dicks. FRIES: So I'm one of those people who become ecstatic when finding a soft, warm, and soggy fry in my Mcdonald's French fries. At Dicks, their fries were larger cut, served hot, and had that soggy yet crispy taste to it. It hit my preference so I was completely happy! And they're only $1.50 for a decent portion!! They also have delicious shakes for $2.15 and an ice cream bar with several flavors and toppings to choose from. Good-quality burgers for only for less than $2.70?! Needless to say, for being a Dick's virgin combined with the prerequisite of being inebriated to come here, I was so confused, I felt like someone called out 'left foot blue' in a Twister game! Don't ask any questions for you'll get an IQ of 5 answer so you can relive Harold & Kumar's experience personally. Simple solution, just order three of them with all the fixin's and you're done. It's catty-corner from our hotel where we are staying. Convenient as hell. We walked across the street and stepped into the restaurant. A delicious smell of hamburgers and fries welcomed us. The price for these delicious burgers is really cheap. The fries are only 1.50 for some of the best fries I've had. Only second to in-n-out and five guys. Very good shakes as well. Just moved back to Seattle and remembered Dick's being the go to place to get quick burgers. Got a cheeseburger, deluxe, fries, and a chocolate milkshake. For the price the cheeseburger was decent. Tastewise, I would compare it to a McDonalds dollar menu cheeseburger. Delux wasn't anything special. The best part were the fries and the milkshake. Not sure what all the hype is about, unless it's just about being quick and cheap.
