When in the US Mainland, I always make it a point to visit the nearest Shake Shack. This location is just down the street from my hotel in downtown Seattle, about a 9 minute walk away. They are located on a triangular corner of Westlake & 8th Avenues in a more upscale contemporary neighborhood of downtown. Shake Shack does not have drive-thru service but has sit down counters both indoor and outdoor. It was a little busy during evening after work hours on a week night. Ordered a hotdog, fries and a double burger. Everything was easy to maneuver on the kiosks. Food is pretty consistent to other Shake Shack's I've been to. I had their new Big Shack Burger (essentially like a Big Mac at McD), and it was good, but not amazing. What I dislike the most is the portioning of the burgers. Although the burgers are almost $10, the sizing is a bit small. It's very tasty and the ingredients are fresh though. The fries were unfortunately okay. There are times where I really enjoy the fries, but this is not one of them. It wasn't that flavorful and it didn't taste that fresh. I had their Christmas Cookie shake and it was okay too. Shake Shack always hits the spot! We came here for dinner and everyone in our group ordered burgers and I got the chicken sandwich. We also had the bacon cheese fries and tried one of their summer shakes. This was my first time trying their chicken sandwich and I added bacon and avocado to it and that was the move! It was a huge piece of chicken that was moist with a yummy sauce and all the toppings. The bacon and cheese fries were great, their cheese sauce is so creamy and tasty! We ordered the s'mores shakes but we got the banana pudding shake instead. The shake was good but wish they got the order right on that since we really wanted to try the s'mores one. The service here is made easy for customers. There are a few self-ordering kiosk in the front for you to place your orders in. This location has seating options inside and outside. No one ever greeted me. I was waiting to have my order taken for 3-5 min. Cashiers/workers were coming up to help dashers that were stepping into the small space between the counter and I. I was seen but never acknowledged. I looked around and noticed that there was a heard of people crowding iPads so I waited my turn to use one. The iPads were dirty and literally crusty. I do believe they may have been understaffed and continually instructed folks to use the self-order kiosks instead of coming to the counter. While it helped with lines, I saw some customers come in very confused because no one was at the counter and the self-order wasn't intuitively placed to the door. It also took them a bit to get orders together, mine sat behind the counter mostly-ready for a while waiting on one item which left others a bit not-hot. Friday night, 10 employees behind the counter, no leadership, no communication, absolute chaos. - Staff members running around confused, placing items into the wrong bags. - Customers waiting for food that's already finished and sitting cold. - Door Dashers returning because they were given the wrong orders. And if there's spots, we CANT be too sure if it's water drips or pee unless you know for sure.. AND I know the difference because I LIVE with 4 boys. And so I'm AWAYS making sure they wipe the seats, the toilet AND the floor around them whether they drip or NOT. This was my first time trying Shake Shack after many recommendations from friends. Unfortunately, I'm on the fence on my experience. The outside area was unpleasant to the eyes but that's just a Seattle thing sometimes. The indoor are was nice and clean. I think they could have shortened the ordering area and added more seating. Ordering was easy. Getting the food was the issue. They had tablets to order if paying with card and two stations to order with cash. After ordering they take your number to text you when your order is ready. My friend ordered first and so received her "ready" text first. Well, her food never showed up. The rest of my party received their food although that was hard for the employees as well. Many of our orders were made wrong and/or missing items. We all waited patiently for our friend to get her food but it never came. She asked the staff and they were confused. Either they lost her order or it got stolen. I do have to say they returned her money and offered to prioritize her order which was nice but we were already all done eating and she didn't want to wait another 20 mins. The food itself was tasty. I love love love Shake Shack. Been to the Madison Square Park location in NY a bunch of times, airport locations, etc. I'm painfully giving this place 4 stars because I love the food so much, but the service and cleanliness of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. The good? Quality of food is right up there. Well cooked. Great quality. Small-ish portions but that's what you exchange for great ingredients. The meh? Agree with other reviewers that the restaurant is dirty, tables are not maintained and the staff isn't rude they're just not happy to be there. Our order wasn't called out and we didn't get a text so we had to keep going up. They were informative about it but certainly not a happy crew. In the summer in Seattle it's probably best to get it to go and walk across to the nice clean park or sit on Amazon building steps. The beef patties are crisp and charred and the insides even were a nice medium doneness which is impressive for a smash burger. I had the Spicy ShackMeister which had crispy onions and hot peppers. One complaint is that the peppers aren't evenly distributed so you get some bites with none and then some bites with too many. I will say that outside the delicious beef burger, the rest of the menu is a little disappointing. The chicken burgers are mediocre flavor, the fries don't have much seasoning, the shakes are not impressive. The food gets 5 stars from me, the staff are so rude and they act as if they are forced to be there. Not sure what is going on there as I kid you not no one seems happy to be working there and seems they are having hard time so they are reflecting that on the customers. Today they were out of ketchup cups, so people were using water cups for ketchup, resulting in a shortage of water cups. After a few visits, I am convinced that the people who work there absolutely HATE their jobs - possibly due to really crappy management? 1) French fries taste like fish 2) Took 3 people one time I came in to ring up my order (the first 2 couldn't figure it out). I ordered off the menu without modifying anything. 3) I once saw an employee set a drink down on a counter for all the to-go food in bags. The drink spilled. She looked at the mess, you could tell she was debating what to do. After a couple seconds, she just walked off without cleaning up the spilled drink. She then proceeded to put all the to-go bags on top of the spilled drink on the counter.
