Beware! Their test equipment is not in calibration. I brought in a mechanical tachometer that was reading low (a common issue with older tachs). $200 later after getting "re-jeweled", the tach read even lower after engine speed being checked with an optical tach. I took the tach back to them to have it rechecked, and they said there is noting wrong with it. I ended up buying an electronic tachometer which confirmed that the "re-jeweled" is off calibration. read more

So, I called Dicks yesterday and explained what was wrong with my instrument cluster. The "Driver information center" or DIC for short, wasnt working. The "trip odometer" was working fine sometimes, but intermittant. The DIC didnt respond to the steering wheel contrils at all. I asked if they could reprogram it. They said "yes, complete rebuild". $225. So I get there today, and they want $100 to remove and re-install it from the vehicle. It literally takes 3-4 minutes to remove it, and the same to install it. $100. Thats just crazy. So I take it out. Took 4 minutes. Took it to the desk, he again says, $225 to rebuild it. I said "ok, the DIC needs reprogrammed". He then says "oh we cant do that, the dealer has to". OMG really? I specifically asked that on the phone and was told they could. Im so damn tired of being lied to just to get me in the door. so they can rip me off. They are just a parts replace shop. So, they owe me $100 for the hour of my time they wasted, and $15.00 for gas they wasted. read more

New differential on my old Mustang. Speedo off. They recalibrated it in two hours at a great price. That's all I ask.

Initially saw this business referenced in a Packard forum page. Thought local shop lets give it a try. 1946 Packard Clipper speedo cable stuck/broke and not rotating. Team at Dicks took my part into the back and were able to release the stuck component easily from the housing. I had tried for two days including soaking the item in a solvent. Man they do good work. After releasing the cable they asked if I wanted a new cable installed. I asked if they could lube it and they said yes. They asked if I had the transmission transfer gear for the speedo and I said yes. They took it and cut to length the correct distance on the new line, lubed it and installed it into the housing. Once home I routed the completed unit and installed the transmission side and speedometer side. 40 years sitting idle and the speedometer is working again. Man ol man. Now I am bummed because Dicks no longer works on cruise control, because someone blamed Dicks in a lawsuit because of the cruise control they installed, caused an accident. I contacted Dick's about a cracked plastic lens on my speedometer. They said "send it out, we'll fix it" so, I did and guess what, they fixed it. The manufacturer is Italian and like most Italian bikes, they don't just sell the part you need, they sell the whole speedometer as one, $750.00! Dick's was able to cut out my cracked lens and fit a new piece of plastic in the frame. I am so grateful for their service. I hope more people will realize that this type of service is available. read more

Well sent it in with the oil temperature flickering and it came back with the oil temperature, battery and gas gauge flickering.

"Some in as little as 2 hours!", but after sending tach, and them having it for a full week, not even an estimate was provided. It now is being returned with nothing done. The person answering the phone is the most unprofessional person I've ever dealt with. If he worked for me, he'd be gone! They may do great work (I can't say) but the professionalism and communication was absolutely horrible. They could have at least called to say they have it, and this is the anticipated time to look at it. read more

Today was a pretty happy day for me I went to Dick's speedo and brought in my cluster for my 2004 Chevy pick up and my cluster had been out for over two years and heard about these guys from O'Reillys. So today I walked in and Frank showed me how to take the cluster out. And within 45 minutes my cluster lit up like a Christmas tree. Used them twice, once to calibrate my speedometer and another time to install cruise control on an older, customized vehicle. Both times, the work was done correctly and on budget. On the cruise control, they took longer than originally promised, largely to forgetting to order the parts ahead of time, but in the grand scheme of things, I'll gladly trade an extra couple of days for a job well done. My experience here was better than I expected. I bought a motorcycle from a friend who was having electrical problems which affected the instrument gauges on the bike (2005 Suzuki GSX-R 600), I was expecting it to cost about $300 for diagnostic, replacement parts (if needed), and a few hours labor. I was pleased to find out that they gave me the first hour of initial diag free of charge because they found the problem quickly; it ended up costing me only $240, and took two and a half days from the time I dropped it off till when I picked it up... and now my bike runs perfect! Russ the owner is a crook! I echo the previous review....STAY AWAY from this shop. I paid $280 (seems everything is $280) on 8/3/12 to have my speedometer repaired. On the way home the trip meter wasn't working. I called and Russ said being it back. I had waited 4 hours for the initial repair so I couldn't come back that day....no problem bring it back when you can. I'm here now 8/26/12 been here now 2 hours when Russ comes out and says the trip meter was working when I left, they tested it and I broke it by smashing the reset button on the way home WHICH IS A LIE....I did not smash the reset button.... Russ said yes you did!!! Now Russ said he needs to get a part and it will be 3 MORE hours... So yes I think I am getting set up to pay more for what was their failure to fix it properly the first time. Incidentally when searching for a speedometer repair shop there are 2 Dick's ....the original, fair and ethical shop on 7th St. In Phoenix and this knock off crook in Tempe....STAY AWAY read more

Went down to get my fathers cluster looked at. We were there for 30 minutes and the job was done perfectly. They even took the time to install the instrument cluster back into the truck when they were finished. I look forward to taking my own truck when the time comes to get mine looked at. Hi, I wanted to warn you about my dealings with Jerry and Russ at dicks speed- o -tach in scottdale,az. I took my 96 buick in because it would not start it had to do with circuit board, I called Jerry on the phone he told me they would dianose it and let me me know what was wrong. I brought it in and he had to order another board and the cost would be $425.00, 3 days later I went to my bank and called Jerry had asked how much it was $450.57 went to my bank got cash and thats when my car would not start,had the car towed to dicks speed o in scottsdale, they put on the computer board and the car started had no problems for the next 2 days. Then I had problems starting my car and when I called Jerry explained to him that my car was not starting He told me I would have to leave the car there for 2 days and they would diagnose the problem I explained to him very nicely I was going to school and needed my car and I could wait in there lobby. Jerry said no and I would have to speak to Russ meanwhile I am in class in school I get a call from Russ He told me in no certain terms that he was backing Jerry up and I would need to leave the car there.Then he brought up my 1988 nissan maxima I got a used speed o meter cluster from the junk yard mine was not working brought it in them to put it on they put it on and I believe they charge me $280. for the cable and labor I drive out it was working then it stopped I went back explained it was not working after much pleading they took my car in the back and it turned out it was their fault they did not put the cable all the way in after that my speedometer worked. When he brought my nissan up he only wanted to tell me what he wanted, When I tried to talk he hung on me.Russ is a hot head and very emotional I would do things very differently now But I would not deal with these guys at all. This is the most DISHONEST automotive business that my husband & I have ever encountered. We brought my newly purchased used automobile to "Dick's Speed-O-Tach Tempe" (this IS NOT the same owner NOR does this business have ANY relationship with the "Original Dick's Speed-O-Tach" Phoenix, by the way) because my speedometer was not correctly measuring my speed. My vehicle was there less than an hour & I was told by "Mike," the "manager," that "Russ" (who I've since learned is the owner) fixed my problem & replaced all stepper motors & all of the lights within the instrument cluster. I paid over $350.00. After driving for 10 miles, the problem still remained with absolutely NO improvement. We called them immediately & said we were coming back. Once we arrived, "Russ" put my vehicle on the dynamometer & said "everything was fine, we replaced everything within the instrument cluster." By this time, we knew we weren't going to get anywhere with them so we immediately researched other providers & found "The Original Dick's Speed-O-Tach" in Phoenix. Nick, the owner, looked over our receipt to see what was done & nothing was itemized- it only stated "labor & parts"labor & parts" & a price of over $350.00. We left our vehicle in the care of Nick. Nick called us the next day & told us that not one thing-none of the stepper motors or the lights within the instrument panel had been replaced- nor had the instrument cluster been taken apart- & all of the stepper motors & lights were the original OEM parts- nothing had been touched by this supposed specialty "repair place" in Tempe! I called & asked to speak to the owner-"Russ." The male identified himself as the owner Russ. I told him I would be coming back to talk to him about the fact that the work was never done...Russ stated "I don't talk to customers, I leave that to the manager." Instead of going back to this completely dishonest shop, I decided to call my Visa card's Dispute Department, which I did, told my assigned investigator the issue & within a week she completed her investigation. Nick, the owner of the very honest "The Original Dick's Speed-O-Tach" in Phoenix wrote a professionally objective letter, stating nothing had been replaced within the instrument panel whatsoever, it had not even been taken apart. My Visa card company took back all of my money from the dishonest "Dick's Speed-O-Tach" in Tempe because of this discovery- that no work had ever been done by them. I am very happy to report that my vehiclewas totally fixed by Nick @ "The Original Dick's Speed-O-Tach" in Phoenix @ a fraction of the price. My 62 vette needed the speedometer repaired. I had taken it to the original Dicks on 7th street and the along with the gage cluster and it set there for 3 months. This is not the same owner (although these guys said they used to work at the original one years ago.) The gages and speedometer were fixed and calibrated in just over 24 hours.
