My experience was so unpleasant and the employees where no help what so ever. Came here twice: First time for fishing gear and they had nothing... I went over to the Big 5 sporting goods in the same parking lots and they had plenty of fishing supplies and equipment.. Second time i came here: 1/9/19 i was in search of paintball equipment... specifically a CO2 tank.... after walking around the store I finally asked a associate if they sold any paintball equipment and she tells me no.. only online... Wow, that is a first for me... I walked in at 10:30 am with cash in hand to get a bike and I could not get anyone to help me. I am guessing that this store may not last too long if they continue to exhibit a serious lack of customer service. Not to mention while I was looking at the bikes the attendants were just hanging out ignoring everyone around them. If you took your bike here for service I would use caution. Two bikes were on a rack to be worked on with no one around while grease and dirty tools were left out with dust on them. Oh well time to go to Big 5 in the same complex. My first impression was a neat and tidy store which is always good. Good customer service, I was shopping for shoes and the tall brother with glasses (his name escapes me) was professional and knowledgeable. When you're shopping in a sports retail place like this just know that each department has maybe a limited number of dedicated employees and there is a lot of ground to cover in a large store like this. You can help yourself by having an idea of what you're looking for and/or maybe calling ahead. I had a good experience, didn't end up buying anything and was greeted on the way out. read more

Their covid curbside pick up is a joke. I bought a trampoline for my kids and drove from Escondido to pick it up. They gave me a taped up box and assured me that everything was there. I made it home and read on the box. It's said box 1 of 2. Are you kidding me ?? So I get on the phone and the manager says sorry and I could pick up the second box the next day. So I go and I pick up the second box and it is taped up as well .. that should have been another sign. Im too nice sometimes. I say thank you and drive backs to Escondido. My kids are very exited because they are going to have a trampoline to jump on. They help layout all the pieces and we are missing a lot of parts.. the look on their faces of disappointment breaks my heart. I get on the phone again and again the manager says sorry that she will exchange it for un opened boxes .. I tell her it's unacceptable that they had sealed boxes and decided to give me taped up boxes.. all she says is sorry again. With Chula Vista being at the moment the second highest with confirmed covid cases it's the last place I want to keep on going to. I'm running out of Lysol spraying these boxes down. Walked in to look for good New Balance running shoes. Hardly anything to pick from unless you like Nike. All of the shoes have inserts filling them so you can't really look at them without assistance. Whoops, there's the prob. No one around. If you don't look and act like a Millenial your not going to be noticed in this store. They don't seem to think I'm sporty enough. I will no longer shop here!! I sat on the decision for a couple of days, because sometimes when your angry your not fair in your decisions or reviews. I have a son that plays baseball so instead of shopping at my local Big 5, I made the decision to drive all the way to this store, I spent almost $400.00 in gear and clothing for baseball. One of the baseball pants had some defective stitching, so i drove out there to exchange and buy some more items. The first associate was very nice, i showed the defect and she said go ahead and grab another pair of the same pants and she would do a even exchange. (Great) So I go grab another pair and even more baseball clothing and other items and I return to the register, but by now that associate is gone, and PRISCILLA is there and I explain to her and even let her know that the pants are right there, she then asks wheres the receipt, I said I don't have it on me, but its very obvious that its the exact pants with the same price and store tag. She then gives me a hard time about not having the receipt and that the other associate should of made it clear that with no receipt no exchange. By now I'm pissed that this store associate isn't going to exchange my defective pants, with nothing that can be done, at the last second she asks me if I'm a scorecard member I said yes, so she said OK well then I can give you the exchange. So here is my gripe, 1st she was rude, 2nd it was a obvious the flaw in the merchandise that was clearly there product, 3rd I made a long drive out there when I could of stayed local! I went to this store a week before black friday, took some pictures and talked to some sales associates. I asked them if the prices for the weights and squat racks will be on sale by black Friday. He did not comment about it. So , came black Friday I went back to this store, and noticed a coue of the items were marked up for the sale, I asked one of the sales associates if I can get the previous price the one in the picture and get the black Friday sale that the y claiming, I did not get it. Item #889751005591, this Is a 300lbs barbell set with bar marked for black Friday 209.99, before the 24% discount, it was 199.99 a week before, when I was about to pick up the items today, this item was marked 149.99, I asked very politely if I can have a price adjustment, I did not get it again, and then item #889751349619 price a week ago was $299.99, on black Friday 349.99 minus the 25% off,. Since I did not get the previous priced, I was thinking I still saved a little bit. Today I was getting ready to load my items one of the sales associates told me that only the one on display, item # 889751349619 is available, he asked me if I want they can refund me $$262.29, and order another one same item but different price and I have to pay shipping delivered to either to store or to my house. Why do we need to pay shipping if it is store pick up, I asked, that young sales associate did not give me any answer. And no price mark down. Right there and then I canceled all my purchases. I purchase something online and picked up at this store. I decided to return my item for a bigger size. When doing the turn it was off by 2 dollars. I was owed two dollars due to tax. I did the math on my phone explained it to the Cashier. The cashier got her supervisor involved. The supervisor called the manager Mike. I was polite and asked why it was off by two dollars. I showed Mike the math and he looked confused. He didn't have an answer for me. Then walked over to the cash registered and says out loud "is it two dollars that you're fighting for because I'll give you the two dollars."I thought it was so unprofessional and uncalled for. Needed some last min shower shoes for my job; Big 5 just sent all their summer stuff back since the season is changing . I came in and the employees were very welcoming and even pointed me in the direction of the shoes I needed. However , not one single employee offered assistance as I was in the back of the store walking around aimlessly looking for these shoes. I would rate zero stars. World class horrific customer service!! I went during christmas time to purchase a bike and my daughter decided on a different style instead. When I went to the store to return the bike nobody bothered to help so I waited. Once I went to cashier I informed her I was returning the bike, nothing wrong with it. She then called the Softlines Manager, Jess L. From the very beginning she started with a rude tone and asked what was wrong with the bike to which I again said nothing. She quickly said she was not taking the bike back, that she does know if something went wrong with it. Mind you, the bike still had wrapping, it was brand new. She said its stated with the bikes paperwork. I informed her I did not receive any paperwork and all I received was a receipt for the purchase. On the receipt it does not state anything about not accepting bikes as return. After minutes of arguing, I guess thats why they are called "dicks" she said she would do return as one time. She did not count my change, I had to ask how much she was giving me and when I asked for her last name she said she doesnt have to tell me anything. To store management: Train your staff on giving good customer service and inform your customers on any necesarry information related to their purchase. This transaction should have not of escalated had Jess L. Softlines Manager, been trained in proper customer service and how to diffuse a situation as opposed to escalating. You are a "manager" how about setting a good example to your staff? I will never go back to this store or any Dicks store and will definitely let others know about mmy experience. read more

Cashier scanned barcode and shoes but never gave me receipt or had me swipe my card as she said online orders dont get receipts and to expect refund (about $130) within 5 days (but it was never refunded) Went back a couple times to resolve this matter to what the manager said there was no footage of me returning, as if I'm being accused of lying. 3 weeks and numerous corporate phone calls later, they said we should get refunded in 2 days. Wish Dick's could train cashiers more and offer better and faster customer service. read more

Really hated to One-Star this place but I had to. First of all, I had reservations of EVER shopping at a Dick's being that they just refuse to show any support of our 2nd Amendment; very unAmerican! But Big 5 doesn't sell golf grips so I literally had no other option. I purchased my grips, received good service during the process of shopping for the grips, the guy was very helpful and knowledgeable. He originally told me they couldn't re-grip my clubs until the morning. No problem, but another worker chimes in stating he could do them after his lunch break. It was approximately 5:45pm at this time and they close at 9:30pm so I agreed to leave my clubs and return in a few hours. 9pm comes around and no calls so I head over to pick them up anyway. Fortunately I decided to call before getting too far away from home. Low and behold, the guy states that he wasn't able to do it and he's leaving it for the morning guy to wrap them! Really not a big deal, but suppose I lived a great distance away and drove all the way to grab my clubs to no avail?!?!?! A simple phone call from them would've been VERY helpful. And lastly, I asked for a military discount being that this is a military town, guess what, "sorry we don't provide military discounts, our manager doesn't allow/approve military discounts sir." I googled it on the spot and it actually varies from store to store so the clerk was correct, however, how could Dick's not support 2nd Amendment NOR honor a simple military discount?!?!? I don't recommend going to Dick's sporting goods for athletic shoes. I went last week and was fitted by one of their associates and when I used them at the gym they felt too big. I brought them back to the store hoping I could exchange them for a smaller size. They refused to exchange them because they had been previously used and they said that they cannot resell them. I was very surprised since I have never encountered this issue at department stores. I was very disappointed to say the least I will never purchase anything here again. eastbay and other online stores sell their product for cheaper plus you get some kind of online discount and free shipping. i come here simply to see if i can pricematch or try on products before i buy. customer service absolutley is horrendous. my son plays for the local popwarner football team, i was given a dicks 20% off coupon of entire purchase, from his team valid for 2 days and its an all day affair. the ditsy checkout girl decided to blurr out my coupon after my purchase. she said it was one time use, which was incorrect, she looked at it again and no where it said one time use. then went off and said sorry in a sarcastic manner, very rude as well. didnt offer to call a manager to help fix the situation. i could of came back later that day and purchased more stuff. for example, i could of missed some stuff that my son needed for football and could of came back to purchase and used the coupon. they also charge for shipping if you order stuff there. all in all, if customer service was good, maybe i would shop here more often. but because big 5 next door, dicks is going to have a hard time staying in business. if they dont do something about their rude and untrained employees. and really ? a sporting goods store with no fishing dept? a giant store dedicated to sports and all things outdoors does not have a fishing dept? really sad... at least when sports authority was there, they had fishing gear.... and better trained and knew what they were talking about. read more

The new store layout is nice and clean, being a new store of course, but the management sucks. It's amateur hour here. Second time I've been in and I expected growing pains with a new store, but it's been months now and they are still ringing up "On Sale" merchandise for the regular price. I wasn't watching the register display for each item, but I'm glad that I checked my receipt before leaving ($10.80 overcharge difference). Instead of just giving us the difference back (under $20), the register clerk had to call for a manager to fix their error and approve this huge "refund." (That store policy is annoying. They obviously don't trust their employees with money). We had to wait 5 minutes for the "Hardlines Manager" Andrew (@ 20 years old), who casually strolled up, who then First answered a phone at an empty register next to us and then walked over, without ever even looking at us. He looked like he was trying to act very important and barely answered another clerk's question for him, without even looking at him either! Hey Andrew! I'll give you some free managerial advice, you handle the customer that is waiting before answering the phone, especially when there were other employees milling about who can answer phones! You obviously don't know how to delegate. Most importantly 'Andy' never addressed us or apologized for the inconvenience! Very immature management, and terrible customer service! We come here frequently for our boys. Tonight we needed cleats and fit bit. Shoe department...wake up please. Managers please hold a product knowledge training "why should I choose Nike?" "how does new balance fit?" Know your product so that I don't have to google online while I wait for you to come back with my shoe, share customer feedback maybe "most of our customers seem to like...." And remind them to check back and see how the shoes fit. Actually maybe take a field trip to Nordstrom shoe department I'm not asking you to put the shoe on my foot but at least speak, smile or at give a courtesy "hey how's it working out?" I am happy that there is finally a Dick's in Chula Vista. However today's experience was horrid. We stopped in early around noon and needed to make an exchange....but the return system was down :-/ Then it came back up but the item we wanted to buy(football forearm guards) didn't have a upc/tag on them and TOREY a young female associate seemed confused about how to figure out how to find the upc for them, she had NO sense of urgency. We had to leave and TOLD her to leave them on hold and that we'd be back before 7p. I came back and apparently TOREY just threw the forearm guards on the counter but never placed them in the holds bin, ugh! She's lucky I found another pair in white, I wanted the black ones but thanks to her incompetence that didn't happen. If you go to Dick's avoid TOREY! She has zero customer service skills.
