Drinks were tasty (love Mescal) and portions are a good size. House Bloody Mary w/smoky Mezcal was fantastic (stomach approved two of them). The blood orange Margarita w/a salty rim = TASTY. Corn bread w/ maple syrup is a decent sized portion. There is a layer of cheese in there somewhere. The breakfast burrito is a large serving. Loved this too. Only downside is that it had a bit too much oil for my liking. Presuming that this is from the cooking. Beef empanada's w/ a cilantro, garlic dressing was fantastic. Fish taco's were appreciated too. This place is super cute ! Loved the decor from the second we walked in. The cocktails were so good and worth the price. Wish I could say the same of the food, but I would skip out on the food next time and just stick to drinks here. We had the empanadas which came out over fried and therefore a bit dry in the middle/hard to taste the actual flavors of the filling. Not to mention the small portion for $15. We considered ordering tacos but saw someone's order next to us and they also looked very small for $15 alla carte as well. This is our second visit here and we will be back! The food, service, and overall vibe make this a special relaxing oasis. Not to mention the music play list really fits the feel of this place. It feels far more like going to a good friend's get together than a restaurant barely open two months. Both times we have had reservations and were warmly greeted by name, seated promptly, and had a nearly nonexistent wait for our server. Our servers, and the staff over all, have been friendly and engaging, helpful, and knowledgeable all while being unintrusive. A truly fine line to balance and done with aplomb here. The environment is kid friendly but still a nice date night spot. Clean and bright with a well thought out décor that adds to the experience without overwhelming one's senses. COVID precautions were being observed and well space tables helped give a good feeling of safety. Prices are competitive for the area and left me with a good feeling of value for the dishes I ordered. Our first visit was on a weekday afternoon for a drink and apps. The two standouts were the Elote and arugula salad as well as the Oaxacan Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned is a wonderful take on the classic well balanced, just slightly smoky. Honestly a perfect cocktail. The Elote and arugula salad is flavorful and well thought out. A refreshing salad with a surprisingly impactful dressing. (Bottle this for retail, please.) However as good as this salad was it had a pair of downsides, the dressing is described as creamy. First that just did not come through it ate more like an herby vinaigrette. As I have said one I would buy and loved but not what I was expecting. Second, really nothing brought me back to elote in this salad. So as good as this salad is it took a moment to overcome my initial expectations and enjoy it for what it is, a darn good salad. Our second visit was the Saturday morning before Valentines. It was nice to be remembered by the staff and the level of hospitality and service was on point. A special menu was in place for Valentine's weekend. There was a slight miscommunication as we were initially told the menu would not be available till 5pm on Saturday. Our server returned to our table quite quickly and told us he was in error and apologized for the misinformation the menu was available all day. We had not asked for verification of this and truly apricate the grace with which he handled it and the care to double check on his own. The Bibb Lettuce Cups with brisket avocado crema and so much more were delicious. A perfect balance of sweet savory and spice, the crema rounded out each bite. I truly hope this dish makes regular appearances as a special or moves to the full-time menu. The drinks were spot on but hands down the Spanish Olive Oil Cake stole the show. Just dense enough not to crumble and soaked up the citrus glaze to delicious effect. A house made lavender whipped cream that truly took the dish to another level. Admittedly I am more accustom to Italian Olive Oil cake and I would not say this was better than Nanas, but it is at least on par. My wife however says I am wrong and the crispy eggplant stole the show. I cant really argue to hard about that as it was amazing as well. Cannot recommend a visit here enough. 4.5/5 read more

Unremarkable. Granted, I've been spoiled by living in San Francisco for 20+ years... but... For the price, the food quality wasn't great. At this price point, Dolores has much tastier food. Diego's food is just kinda meh... and there's no interesting spicy options. Their house hot sauce is brutal and tasteless. If you want a good margarita, go to Tortilla Flats... better drinks and similar food at 2/3rds the price. For fine Mexican food, Dolores. Would actually recommend this location over the original Diego's in Newport. They have a dog friendly patio and the decor inside is a nice mix of design and done in funky good taste. The menu is always delicious, you can't go wrong with any of the apps or the SANGRIA. If you sit at the bar you will be in full view of the kitchen, so if you want a more quiet experience you may want to sit around one of the upper rings of seating. I kept hearing great things about Diego's so I was thrilled when I finally got the chance to try it. It was a bit busy on an early Friday evening. It wasn't a big deal as we could just sit in the lounge area and enjoy a drink while waiting ~20 minutes for our table. The drink menu is HUGE! I had a hard time picking just one cocktail! There are separate sections for tequila, mezcal, tiki drinks, whiskey drinks, sangria, and gin/vodka, with tons of great options in each section. They have anything you could possibly be in the mood for! You can also order tequila flights. Cocktails are about $11-15 which seems to be about typical these days in Providence. They clearly indicate which cocktails have allergens (egg or nuts) which is not something I've seen before but was much appreciated. I had the "queen of pain" ($14) which had rye, campari, bitters, and a coffee ice cube. It was so well-crafted! As far as vegan options on the menu, I was choosing between the vegan tacos and burrito. I ended up ordering the burrito since it seemed to be a bit more filling for the same price ($15). The burrito was stuffed with roasted vegetables, mushrooms, rice, beans, slaw, and vegan cheese. We also started with some fresh chips and guacamole which was delicious, although it's hard to mess up guacamole. They also have several gluten free options. Such a cool place! They have indoor and outdoor seating. The inside has a great vibe. Tons of interesting cocktail choices, which were fun to taste. If you like a little spice, the Bride of Carlos is a good choice. The food was decent. Our waitress was very attentive, which was nice too. Had dinner here with family (4 people) a couple of weeks ago. Saturday 630 reservation seated immediately - it wasn't crowded. Waiter was pleasant and helpful. Bar was SLOW. It took far too long to get drinks from the bar. Food was good! Enjoyable atmosphere. Until...at precisely 830 - so 2 hours past our reservation time - as we were finishing drinks, the hostess approached the table and told us we needed to vacate the table. She could help us relocate if we wished, although where was not disclosed, but she needed the table so we needed to leave. (We were not, for the naysayers, loud or disruptive. 1 senior woman and 3 family in mid-20s. Small family celebratory dinner. ). It was weird. It's not Covid anymore. I understand turning tables, but I was very turned off by this action. We left, and I can't say I have any interest in returning. Perhaps the 2 hour limit is posted somewhere, but not anywhere easily visible, nor were we advised when seated that a strict time limit would be enforced. Perhaps if the bar was not sloth-slow(we only had 2 drinks), we would not have stayed for the full 2 hours, but regardless, Diego's lost a customer due to their tactless protocol. read more

Visited Diego's for lunch on a Friday afternoon, I had been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about this place so I wanted to give it a try for myself. I was greeted by the hostess and sat within minutes. My friend was running late so as I waited I ordered the Santa Baya & the waitress brought over chips/salsa/guac which was really nice of her. The chips were good but the salsa was bland, very watery not like traditional Mexican salsa. The guacamole had huge chunks of avocado and was also bland, it's almost as if it wasn't seasoned with the basic ingredients salt and lime. Once my friend arrived I ordered the Mariposa because the Santa Baya was very bitter and the Mariposa was too. They were both hard to drink, now I can down any drink, but these just didn't taste good. I ordered the carne asada tacos and street corn my friend the pulled pork. Two basic tacos which were decent nothing amazing. Now the street corn was a huge disappointment. Street corn is traditionally smeared with sour cream or mayo and cotijo cheese... these were NOT. Literally just drizzle with an aioli sauce, I would not call this street corn. To say I was underwhelmed and disappointed is an understatement. I don't know if I was just hungover but these tacos almost made me shed a tear. So good! Nashville tacos from their brunch menu. The chicken is a little spicy so order a side of sour cream with it. The sound level is great for conversation. And all of the staff were friendly and efficient. Our appetizers and desserts had bright and exciting flavors. For apps, the beef empanadas were delicious with an amazingly flavorful chimichurri. The poke tostada was great as well. The sauce was the best. And for dessert, I got the churros which were light and airy and scrumptious. My friend got possibly the tres leches and her plate was cleaned. The mains were not great. We both got the pulled pork street tacos. I found it oddly stuffed full yet flavorless. The port tasted a bit mushy. And it was so full, there was little chance of it holding together while eating. So I didn't really eat it. Oh and I upgraded my margarita but it still had that overly tart mix taste which could have been an error. Because of COVID, we're always looking for places with comfortable, outdoor seating. This location, interestingly enough, used to be a toy store. Now it's a modern Mexican restaurant with a covered dining patio that's shaded in the summer and heated in the fall. I hadn't been to the location in Newport, but had only heard good things. On the urging of my friend, we ordered the nachos. Crisp chips coated with melted cheese, a healthy scoop of guacamole, salsa and a spicy cream sauce. Delicious! I'm also a sucker for Sangria, and they have a light, peach sangria that's sweet and refreshing. Perfect for a hot summer day. The staff is friendly and attentive, and even indoors, tables are widely spaced with plastic partitions for some semblance of safety. My one minor complaint is I didn't find their burrito to be very flavorful or spicy. Please keep in mind, though, I grew up in the Southwest and was raised on authentic Mexican. I came here after wanting to a while. I loved that they offered the brunch menu and also the regular one. We had the loaded nachos which were great. I didn't love the corn bread, I'm more of the sweet style corn bread with a sweet butter but this was the kind that had corn inside it. The mini quesadillas were good and the tacos great but we were unimpressed with the crack potatoes. Street corn also was good but to me it was too much sauce. Atmosphere was great, they're still doing covid precautions. I LOVED that they had mock tails options for me, though for $6 my lemonade was a little small served in a champagne glass. Customized drinks so specific to what we wanted and they were OUTSTANDING. So fresh and well made. I'm so glad they opened a providence location! Pretty much the same menu as Newport. The good is great, the drinks are amazing. I recommend the strawberry margarita! The staff is so friendly and attentive. Honestly the best service I've received in providence. Really fun atmosphere and in a great location. I will definitely be going back soon. They also offer their drinks to go which is a huge plus. They are very adherent to COVID-19 protocol, the tables are very spaced out. I got the chicken tacos and my friend got the nachos. The mexican street corn (i always order off the cob) is delicious! Ive also had the calamari, the truffled goat cheese dip , and the fish tacos all of which were very tasty. I like spicy - and they are always very accomodating with adding extra spice etc to dishes and drinks in my experience. The drink menu is amazing. Great margaritas. And the only place in providence that Im aware of that serves "pain killers" -my favorite vacation/ carribean drink. This Mexican restaurant exceeded my expectations with its impeccable service, delectable food, and inviting ambience, creating an exceptional dining experience. We are vegetarian and found a lot of options. We ordered gucamole, queso fundido and Shishito peppers. Everything was fresh and flavorful. For drinks we tried the upgrade margarita watermelon and silver fox which I highly recommend. For mains we had the vegetarian enchilada with mushrooms which was also good. We have been here 3xs. Once for brunch and it was very good and the service was slow but understandable due to shortage of help because of covid. The second time there were 8 of us and again the service was slow and the food wasn't as good. We were also served water instead of the tequila shots we had ordered. This last time was the absolutely the worst. We had reservations for 8:30. We checked in and waited. Another couple also waited 20 minutes only to be seated a table that was empty the whole time. 12 people left at 8:30 and they proceeded to seat 2 other couples before us. They than tried to seat the 3 of us at a 2 top when the other couple were already seated at a 6 top! We were than told we needed to order ASAP cuz the kitchen closes at 9. Why would you schedule reservations at 8:30 when the kitchen closes at 9. We told we should order dessert and it came to the table before our drinks! My 1 star is based on poor management and doesn't reflect the staff because they were only doing there best. Everyone was very nice. read more
