I'm so glad this incredible spot has opened up on the East Side. My partner and I went here on a Saturday night and dined al fresco. Best meal I've had in a while! He got the pork tenderloin which was crispy on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside, and spicy! I got the pulled pork street tacos, and we both got margaritas. I was visiting with a colleague and we had planned to have dinner at a much less expensive place but that place was swamped so we went to Diegos. The food service and ambulance were all very nice but I felt it was very overpriced. I had the enchiladas ( chicken). Everything is à la cart and rice and beans had to be ordered separately. Did takeout for two. We both had tacos (the carne asada and al pastor) and shared a ceviche. I was completely underwhelmed by the meal. It lacked any distinctive flavor profiles, and for a mole rojo pork that's tough to accomplish. The tacos were small and don't come with a side. I think I was hungrier after eating then before, which is sad since the two small street tacos cost $13 and $15 - WAY overpriced. The inside has a cool vibe and the layout looks to be bar-centric. Came here on an early afternoon. Had the ceviche, fish tacos, and beef empanadas. Everything was okay, but nothing all together noteworthy. They had a really nice drink menu with mocktails included which I enjoyed. My server was nice, if somewhat inattentive. I would have understood it if the place was packed but it was essentially empty so I didn't understand why everything took so long. I saw it mentioned in another review here that they don't have enough napkins. I am here to second that. The food, while not bad was ridiculously messy. There is no way to eat that taco without filling falling out. But they give you one measly paper napkin for your food. Considering two tacos go for 14 dollars here, they should invest in some proper cloth napkins if they are looking to charge that much. How messy the food was and the lack of actual napkins turned me off to the entire meal. If I come back here I wouldn't bother with the food and just have a drink with a friend or two. read more

By far one of the worst services I received at a restaurant in a while. Starting off, there was no wait time to be seated so we were seated right away. It took our waitress about 15 minutes just to come to our table and ask us for our drinks. She took another 15 minutes just to take our drinks so we ordered our appetizer in our food at the same time. It took an hour for us to receive our food. she gave us our food an appetizer at the same time and are appetizer was cold, and so is our food. it took or 15 minutes just to bring our bill once we ask for the bill. we kept looking to see what she was doing that could've stopped her from giving us better service, but she was just looking around walking around trying to make herself look busy. The food was OK. I give this experience one star I had a very high expectations for this restaurant. read more

Really cool atmosphere with some outdoor dining on the front porch. However, the food was just ok. We started off with the nachos which were good, but not many toppings come on them besides the cheese, guac, a little bit of aioli, and the salsa. I got the chicken tacos and that came with 2 tacos. The chicken was warm, but everything else was freezing cold which was an odd combo. My boyfriend got the pork burrito and it was almost filled with tomato sauce with a flavor that resembled an indian dish, instead of mexican. We split both of these dishes and really can't say anything great about them. I'm giving them two stars because I believe this place could be fun for drinks and apps based on the environment. read more

I'm glad we have a new restaurant on the East Side and I'd love to be able to write a positive review. However I walked by the second day this restaurant was opened because I could hear the noise coming from the outdoor loudspeakers. This was not music. It was simply abrasive noise. There was nothing Mexican about it. Friends reported that they'd enjoyed afternoon appetizers outside so we thought we'd give it a trial run. The food and drinks (calamari, guacamole and chips, margaritas and sangria) were good and our waitress was absolutely lovely. But we will NOT be going back. Again, abrasive, monotonous music from speakers that couldn't be muted. We could barely hear one another. The menu is a graphic disaster---printed in CAPS in bold in a tortured font with smears of black separating the different categories. It's visually difficult to decipher. This restaurant is at Wayland Square; not Thayer St. College kids are not the clientele here. It will be interesting to see whether it survives. Minor but important changes: legible attractive menu and music that enhances the ambience rather than assaulting the ears. read more

The food was very good but the overall experience was mediocre at best. We were seated in the back room section which when we got there was lit like we were at a dentist office getting our teeth cleaned, super bright spotlights right in our face. Apparently they were trying to figure out the lighting situation, eventually they did and it was ok. Still kind of bright. The overall feeling of that back room area seemed like we were sitting in a fast food place like a Subway. Not very warm or inviting, felt like a completely different restaurant compared to the front and bar area we walked thru to get to the table. Service was average at best, we got our apps before the drinks which was odd. We didn't get a chip refill for the salsa trio until after the entrees came. The beef enchiladas were very good, the fish tacos were good too but for $14 for 2 tacos as a dinner is a little much considering you don't even get a side of rice and beans. My wife ordered a 2nd cocktail and while taking the first sip the entire bottom third of the glass literally broke off spilling the whole drink all over her and the table. The waitress gave us 5 napkins to clean up with. They did comp her drinks though. We get they're a new location and covid, but its not their first restaurant so we expected a little more out of it. Bland, overpriced and poor quality. $14 for half filled fish tacos, $14 for two small quesadillas (initially made with fish) even though the menu said chicken. $11 for a few tablespoons of watery guac. We really enjoyed Halloween brunch/lunch today at Diego's. The dia de los meurtos decor, servers' clever costumes and upbeat themed playlist set a festive stage. Since it was a gorgeous day, we sat outside on the raised porch, above the sidewalk and street, but could still hear the fun music. Our friendly, gracious and helpful server Cat took good care of us. I did have high expectations due to its sister resto in Newport. Highlights: Ambiance, Cleanliness, Service and Drinks were all on point (5*). Lowlights: Chips and Dips - they were great but when we ordered a 2nd round of tortilla chips, the chips were drenched in oil because it was so obviously re-fried making it soggy and unappealing. To their credit, we told them about the soggy, oil-drenched chips and they gave us a new tray and it was the perfect chips that we are accustomed to. I'm hoping the 2nd tray of chips was just an oversight from the kitchen. Unfortunately, the Fish Tacos came out next and they were clearly not fresh - it tasted old; we don't mind paying good money for food and service but we don't expect quality to go down under these circumstances. We also had El Pastor Tacos - they were not bad but I had better ones for cheaper. read more

I loved my first visit, but my second visit was pretty horrible. I called days in advanced for a reservation. When we got there, our "table" was a bench in the crowded waiting area. My date and I are both over 6 feet, and the table was shorter than the bench. It was weird. When I asked for another table, we were barely even acknowledged. Sadly, we ended up leaving. I did fill out a survey after, and never heard anything back. Great restaurant with quality, food, drinks, and service, but be mindful of where you seat guest that had reservations. read more

Our appetizers came 30 seconds later than the other half of the tables and they gave us a free app. Daisy, our waitress, was so sweet, and at the end of the dinner came over with a free dessert and shots for all of us! We were very excited to hear about a new Mexican restaurant on the Eastside of Providence. Wanting to support this new establishment during Covid-19, we ordered for pickup to eat at home. Unfortunately did not have a good experience. Ordered guacamole and couldn't believe we received such a small portion for $11. Called the restaurant. They did refund us $11 - and rudely said they can do it this one time only. The fish tacos was very mediocre. The shrimp & scallop vinaigrette was inedible. Not only were both the shrimp and scallop sliced in half - so in reality received 2 shrimps and 1 scallop, but the dish was slimy with not taste. We threw it out. Will not return and will urge friends the same. Sorry Diego. read more

Our first time here. Waitress was lovely - super friendly and knowledgeable. Drinks were great (the Bride of Carlos is amazing) and tacos were excellent. My only gripe is the guacamole. I ordered one for the table; menu said 'Market Price.' I'd never seen that for guacamole before but I figured what the heck. When it came to the table it was maybe about 4 ounces of guacamole with a bunch of chips. The bill came - $18!!!!! Highway robbery. Diner, beware. read more

Updated review. Was impressed with Diego's on our first visit. On our second visit not so much. The most distasteful punk rock music was blaring. It sounded like the sensory depravation music secret agents use to torture prisoners. I asked the waiter who said it's on par with their Cali /surf/punk vibe. I asked the hostess if it could at least be lowered and she said she didn't have control of it and never addressed the request. At one point, the most vulgar song repeating "I ain't no god damn son of a bitch" was playing. I saw a family with a young child. Completely inappropriate and obtrusive music. The food was just eh, this time. Had a burrito that came with zero sides and was on the smaller side. Also tried a roasted cod dish that sounded promising but was sitting on a bed of beans and veggies in a greasy broth. Then, sadly disappointed with cornbread soufflé. Cornbread is one of my favorites but this was in some greasy tasting cast iron skillet . Won't be running back to Diego's any time soon :( read more

The quesadilla was basically cold, the nachos had cheese on maybe 3 chips and was not fully melted and the sautéed calamari was nothing to write home about. 40 minutes to get the food too.
