I have an '05 6.0L Powerstroke and while traveling from NorCal to Whittier last week, the truck started whistling pretty loud and got worse the further I travelled. When I arrived, I asked my brother-in-law (who owns a 5.9L Cummins) if he had a good local diesel person. He recommended George from Diesel Tune, and I'm glad he did! I called him on Friday morning and he told me to come by his shop so he could see what the problem was. He and one of his mechanics found the problem within a matter of minutes (crack in Y pipe). He told me that it would not be risky to drive it back to NorCal, but provided a fair estimate to fix it on Monday if I wanted. I elected to have him fix it while in town. He ordered the part and fixed the truck so we were able to drive home on Monday afternoon. He and his staff got the truck done in the time he said and came in a good amount less than his original estimate. They were clean, polite and honest. I would recommend Diesel Tune to anyone! My truck ('03 Ram Diesel) would not start on a cold start. Unless I used starter fluid. After a three month stay at the dealership they could not figure it out. Several mechanics and Chrysler technicians looked at the problem for months. They could not get it done. In the end the dealer just about recommended a new engine to fix the problem. Diesel Tune got it figured out in a week. They installed a high pressure fuel pump. I then drove it. It would not start from time to time. I called Sam and he said bring it back: no problem, no BS, no questions asked. Made adjustments. torqued the fuel lines. Fixed, tested for a period of time before turning over to me. Been working with Diesel Tunes since entering the diesel truck market in 1998. First a 99 Ford F-250 SD 7.3L and now a 2006 Dodge Ram 5.9L. While not cheap, they are reasonable and very capable in upgrades and solving issues. I haven't had that many but have found them more than trustworthy to identify the issue, recommend a solution and do the work. I drive 30-40 min each way, too. They were recommended by my usual gas car mechanic of 25 years. I recently asked if he had another option (see below) but he still only recommends them. ALERT: They have recently changed ownership. Mike, the previous owner, was amazing and I am hopeful the new owner maintains the same professionalism, expertise and integrity Mike is famous for having. Usually the word specialist means that you can evaluate a problem and come up with a quick and efficient solution for a fair price... To diesel $peciali$t mean$$$ something else. Took my 99 dodge cummins there for an injection pump. They wanted to charge me $300 more than a dodge dealership!! Outrageous! I got my truck outta there immediately. When I showed up to get my truck towed elsewhere they had left the key on and killed the battery and acted like it was my fault. Two years time goes by and I got into a pinch again and my regular mechanic did not want to change a failed power steering pump I took it to them again... Fail. Turns out the vacuum pump was bad also and they failed to realize it until they installed the new pump... The managers response to me was "we only charged you once for the install". Well Jesus Christ I hope so! how is it my fault you did not diagnose the problem correctly the first time? I guess the word specialist means something else to these people. Now I drive my truck to Palmdale and have a real specialist look after my diesel truck! read more

I've been taking my 2010 BMW 335d to Diesel Tune for a little over a year now and I have nothing but positive things to say about the customer service and quality of service. I almost made a 12K mistake with a gorgeous 2008 6.4L. I asked for his team to give me a diagnostic on a purchase I wanted to make. The truck didn't make it out of his compound! His team found an oil leak, exhaust leak, missing bolts, wiring harness was a mess. His diagnoses was that the truck had an engine repair or swap which wasn't reflected on the Carfax. The charge for his diagnostic.....FREE 99! On top of that, he pointed me toward another one of his customers who sold me a sweet 7.3 bullet proofed and all the mods I was looking for. 2011 Dodge Ram 2500! DieselTune is the #1 diesel shop around LA. I took my truck to my regular mechanic and he butchered it. That mechanic had to tow my truck to the Dodge Dealer and they kinda fixed it but that darn check engine light kept coming back on. I was taking my Chevrolet 2500 to buds diesel shop and kept having issues with my truck. By the 4th time I was deciding to sell it and took it to diesel tune in order to make sure nothing was wrong and I wouldn't be selling a lemon. Turns out there were a few things wrong that Sal fixed. Way over priced, called and asked for headGasket(s) replaced for a duramax Chevy. I asked how many hours( this is where they get you) GM calls for 32 hours. DieselTune wouldn't give a time , they said it's just a job they do. Well I called DIESEL SPECIALIST ( down the street) he said it's 27 hours ( witch is 2600 laborOnly) and would be around $4k. great diesel mechanic. they mostly do powerstrokes (i assume because the 6.0s break down so much), but they had no problem with my cummins 12 valve. bought the truck, and it had some leaks and was pretty beat up. they fixed everything (including chasing down electrical demons and random leaks), fixed the steering , got it running great. then they added pillar gauges (which look flawless), thuren suspension, 35" toyos, a built tranny with billet everything and triple disc torque converter, and ALL the goodies (if you own a 12v, then you know). now the beast is a freight train running on pure America. if you're looking to get your truck fixed at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. if you're looking to get it breathing fire, don't forget the old adage: "speed costs money. how fast do you want to go?" read more

Total rip off! I had heard this was one of the few diesel specialists in the greater LA area and the owner had posted on an Isuzu Pup forum, so when I bought a 1986 Isuzu Pup in excellent working condition, I figured I'd bring it to them to do some preventative maintenance. I gave them a list of preventative, basic things I wanted done- new hoses, new timing belt, new battery- the estimate was so outrageous that I told them to just forget it. But the car also had a battery problem, as the battery kept charging up and then draining within a day or so. I suspected that it was an aftermarket alarm that was making lights flash and setting off an alarm horn, and I disconnected the alarm horn on my own, but it still kept draining. When I brought it to Diesel Tune, I told them about this and specifically told them that I may not have completely disconnected the alarm, and that it was very possibly the reason the battery was draining. They had my car for 2 weeks (!!!) and never once called me to update me on their progress. I finally called them, and they said they were still troubleshooting the electrical system and couldn't figure out why the battery was draining, although they were sure that the battery itself was bad, and so were going to order a new battery and then troubleshoot again. I called a week later and got the head mechanic- Mike- on the phone, and he was baffled as to what was causing the problem. I told him that when I brought it in, I had told them I suspected that the aftermarket alarm might be the problem, that I had only disconnected the alarm horn, but the alarm itself might be draining the battery. He thanked me for letting him know- THIS WAS SOMETHING I HAD TOLD THEM IN DETAIL WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN!!- and sure enough, that was the problem and they fixed it in LESS THAN A MINUTE!! They told me they literally just unconnected a wire. Of course that didn't stop them from charging me $178.20 in labor!! This is a shop that has no interest in building a long term relationship with its client and charges TWICE THE LABOR as another diesel mechanic that I have since priced, compared to their original estimate for replacing hoses, etc. Simply put: RIPOFF! read more
