Dig had been on my radar for a while, but since they're not on the west coast, this was my first time giving their food a try. I'm now a fan. I was in New York for a week, and while I was reviewing the menu, the Backyard BBQ Plate caught my eye. I placed an order through the app. I've been trying to cut back on the amount of meat I eat, so I customized it with the BBQ Crispy Tofu, as well as Pesto and Garlic Aioli. After I picked up my order and got back to class, I realized that the tofu was on the side, and my bowl included chicken! This was not really a problem, as I'm not a vegetarian and generally enjoy chicken. (I tried both, and I think the chicken went with the rest of the dish more than the tofu did.) Everything was quite tasty, and the bowl was more than enough for lunch. I sent a quick note to Dig to let them know about the hiccup. I was not unhappy, but I thought they should be aware of it since the next customer who orders the tofu would likely be a vegetarian who would not be okay with the error. To my pleasant surprise, I got a response just a couple hours later. They appreciated my feedback and wanted to give me a $10 credit. I ordered the Salmon with Brown Rice, Sweet Potatoes, and Brussels. As you can see in the pic, the sweet potatoes and brussels were way too burnt. Some pieces were all black. It's Chipotle style in a sense, you can either get a bowl that you construct, or get one with predetermined ingredients. I chose the latter, and my bowl had brown rice, broccoli, sweet potatoes, chicken thighs, with a garlic aoli sauce. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the sweet potatoes were tender. This was a very hearty meal. I couldn't finish it, and ended up taking it with me back home. My drink was a ginger mint lemonade with was very good. I recommend that 10 out of 10. I don't know where else they have these restaurants besides NY, but I would absolutely go again. read more

I don't get into the city much, so yesterday I made it a point to order from Dig while I was out with friends. I ordered the family size portion of kale salad via Ubereats (it purportedly feeds 4). I ordered TWO of these actually, please don't judge me. The portion I got was kind of shockingly small. I was expecting enough salad to theoretically be shared between 8 people. Danggg, Dig Inn's food was still as salty as the last time I ate here (2 years ago). Whenever I want a healthy and quick meal I'd go to sweetgreens because they make really delicious salads and bowls there. But since Dig Inn is closest to my school, I got lazy when it's pouring rain. I had a salad base with meatballs, cauliflower and sweet potatoes. This cost me $13, which was decent but I think the portion here was smaller than at sweetgreens. I could easily finish my bowl in 5 minutes, which I did. Nevertheless, my eating experience was awful. I The cauliflower was excruciatingly salty. I could taste nothing but salt despite it was supposed to be garlic parmesan cauliflower something. The meatball sauce was similarly salty. These two made me eat the green base without sauce because I felt like I had my sodium intake for the entire week already. The sweet potatoes was the only reason why I gave this 2 stars. They were unseasoned (thank god), and are baked so soft. I would never come back to eat at Dig Inn again. Unless they forget to put the salt in the food hahah read more

Shoutout to my go-to Dig while I was in grad school. I was actually first introduced to Dig as a catered dinner at a school event, and it was quite the step up from the typical pizza and subs. And of course, I took a second and third plate home to save for later because that's how you do as a grad student on a budget in NYC. After living in the South for 8 years, Dig felt familiar. The food itself isn't "southern", but the food hits very similar notes: chicken breast, sweet potatoes, broccoli/cauliflower, mac and cheese. Sometimes, they serve salmon; at other times, they serve meatballs. The veggies vary as well with the seasons. Whatever they serve makes me miss home just a little less. The delicious food at Dig isn't exactly a secret; so don't be surprised at the long lines. Hopefully, you can afford to wait in line or just plan for a later lunch/dinner instead. I never not had to wait in line in NYC; so I can't really ding them for something like that. read more

Yummy at all locations! My favorite make your own bowl type of place. You go in, pick a grain, pick 2 sides and pick your protein usually salmon, chicken, or meatballs. A bowl costs roughly 12 dollars and ~2 dollars more if you add avocado. Great for lunch and you can get extra dressing for your bowl. read more

DIG INN is hands down the best fast-casual dining spot in the neighborhood--light years ahead of Chopt, Sweetgreen and the like. The Pesto dressing and Housemade Sriracha are perfect for dipping tender slices of scrumptious charred chicken, which is my favorite main. Dig Inn is conveniently located and perfect for a quick lunch. I like that you can order three types of vegetables, all which are prepared differently. I appreciate that they are very clear with labeling, including whether allergens like gluten, dairy, or soy are in each dish. Since it is very vegan/veg friendly, gluten free friendly, and also has meat options, there is something for everyone, making it a perfect place to come with friends. My favorites are the: Cashew Kale Caesar, Charred Broccoli with Lemon, Charred Brussels with Honey-Chili Oil and Roasted Sweet Potatoes. I would say the Brussels are very, very sweet. They don't list sugar in the ingredients, but they definitely taste as sweet as if it was. Usually it is so sweet that I can't finish it, but I still find myself ordering it. I order the chicken. One criticism would be they are not consistent with the amount of chicken they give. Also, sometimes it feels like a very heavy meal, despite being relatively healthy. I came here with a friend, placed my order on mobile, and waited. Immediately, the staff attentively noticed me and asked me for my name, and upon noticing my order wasn't yet made, they assembled it quickly and gave it to me. The location wasn't so busy, but I really appreciated their kindness and proactivity. I ordered the salmon market bowl with mixed greens, cauliflower, and broccoli, lemon and sriracha on the side. Although everything came out a little bit drier than my preferred taste preference, the flavors were on point and satisfying. My bowl totaled to about $13. Not the cheapest meal but for a healthy lunch in NYC at a nice location and good environment, I'm okay with it. Also, this specific Dig Inn has a program called Canteen by Dig, which essentially is a reusable bowl that costs $3 on an app, designed to promote sustainability. As someone who is newly interested in sustainability, I thought it was a wonderful initiative, though it is a bit expensive for a college student like myself who can't even afford to eat Dig Inn more than a couple times a week maximum. This location is obviously still figuring it out. Went on 1/3/19 for lunch to the newly opened store. I had been to other Dig Inn locations but it's obvious the staff and management still have some kinks to work out. First off, there isn't a menu or prices anywhere. They tell you greens or grains. I elect for kale and they tell me it's $2 extra? Sooo I guess it's just grains. Not sure why they do this when competitors charge the same amount for bases (Sweetgreen, Cava, etc.) Next, nothing is labeled. They tell you to pick the sides and the elaborate vegetables are not what you'd typically find at a lunch spot in Manhattan. How do I know what is in each dish? Nope - gotta guess. The proteins are fine, the chicken isn't chopped for some reason so it's just a grilled boneless thigh. The sauces are OK (garlic tofu aioli was my favorite). Finally, the cost was $12.50. Have no idea what I ordered. Was anything extra? I have no clue. Food: Taste 6/10 - the food was decent and clean but the cauliflower was chunky, the chicken was an odd texture, and the brussel sprouts overpowered everything.
