My wife and I visited Dim Sum Factory in Issaquah for the first time and were greeted warmly by Kevin, who seated us right away. They offered water and tea, but not iced tea. The menu had a solid selection, but mostly larger portions and a bit higher in price. I was surprised they didn't have crispy shrimp balls, which are usually pretty standard. Instead, they suggested a deep-fried potsticker similar to gyoza, which wasn't quite the same. We also tried shrimp rice rolls, but the dough was thicker than we're used to. I love this spot! I live in seattle but come to Factoria maybe once a month for the AMC (reclining seats ). I highly recommend this spot! When it comes to the dim sum factory, there's really a lot to unpack due to the fact they offer such a unique approach to dim sum. Located inside of the Marketplace at Factoria Mall, they amassed a reputation that they've held onto for the last decade plus. It's been both good and bad, which is why my rating, along with many other others have been somewhere down the middle. Some good things: * There is plenty of group friendly seating. One could have a large group without having to experience much of a wait, even on the weekends. * In addition there is plenty of parking. No one will ever have to deal with looking for places to park, since the mall has so many spots. * The portions are excellent. One has every right to be nervous about how much dim sum will be served given shrinkflation, but there should be no problem here. For example, one portion of shrimp dumplings will have 8 pieces and the price reflects this as well. The bad: * Prices are objectively terrible. And by terrible, I mean expensive. Usually, I'm not one to care if the portions make up for the price, but seeing as everything is $15-20 a pop, things can add up quickly. Even a single can of soda was $5. Yes, really. * I appreciate the staff speaks Cantonese, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. Even when they're not busy, they're not always the easiest to get a hold of and don't necessarily make attendance a priority. * What's worse than subpar tasting food? Having a lot of it. Mediocre execution for various popular dishes meant that food was going to be wasted. This is already a big no no with Asian culture, but the price being factored into it meant folks got hosed twice. At the end of the day, I think there's a lot of potential. It's just that much of it was wasted and I do not rule out a return, but I am not likely to come back anytime soon. read more

We decided to try Dim Sum Factory because it was next door to T&T Supermarket. First impression upon seeing the menu was price shock. The dim sum dishes were around $14.99 each although the portion size was doubled. Dim sum literally meant small appetizers so twice the size and more than double the price did not bode well. We ordered sui mai ($14.99) and beef rice rolls ($12.99) in addition to the house special stir fried mee-fun ($16.99). The sui mai and beef rolls were just ok. The first time we went to Dim Sum Factory, two weeks ago, we ordered several dishes, including Szechuan Fried Noodles, which was very good; A large order of long thick firm noodles, lots of delicious, tender, large pieces of chicken. So tonight we decided to order the Szechuan Fried Noodles to go. From the start it was a disaster! The person taking the order was disappointed when my wife just ordered one dish and pushed her to order more dishes. She refused. We only wanted the one. Then he tried to push her to pay cash instead of using her card. We arrived to pick up the order and he said, "You are very lucky. Tonight our best chef was here to cook your order!" LIAR We got home and all we had received was a pile of little broken, mushy, greasy, pieces of noodles mostly 1/2 to 1 inch long, 2 or 3 noodles perhaps 4 or 5 inches long, and 4 small pieces of chicken each approximately 1/2 inch across. And then looking closely we noticed bits of food that didn't belong there, peas and other bits and pieces we couldn't even recognize. My wife wouldn't eat it. And I unfortunately did have a plate. 20 minutes later I was very ill! We were abused, lied to, cheated, and served contaminated 'food'. I was going to give this 'restaurant' 2 stars because the first time we ordered the dish it was good. But this was SLOP! I would peg this at about 3-4 stars depending on what you order. A 2.5 star average on Yelp is quite low though. Usually anything that low is very bad, but I don't see that here. They just started using one of those robot server roomba things, and you can't be the worst if you have one of those. Lol. Well, I think I'm pretty easygoing on this stuff; you have to really screw up a lot for me to consider rating below 3 stars. Anyways, I thought the fried items here were the best. In particular, the you tiao (fried donut sticks) for the congee had incredible texture, a much better crispiness than average. The shell on the.......fried meat buns(?)(can't remember what they're called) were also divine. If I come here again, I'd order more fried items. The rest of the food had some ups and downs. They have a wide selection of congee, and I thought the congee was also pretty good. I enjoyed the freshness and umami of the radish cake. The beef tendon, I thought, was actually too soft. Of course, they are supposed to be soft, but this was almost to the point of being mushy. In contrast, I felt both the cucumber and tofu skin rolls were a bit extra chewy compared how they usually are. The umami of the fu zhu and feng zhao (feet) were fine, but honestly not quite as good as the ones I had at Triumph Valley the day before. So the food is definitely 3 stars. It is dim sum and the flavor isn't bad. Then again the flavor isn't great. Doesn't have that fresh steamed feel and the flavor is a little on the meh side. The restaurant is ok. Nothing wrong and lots of space. It is well cleaned and I didn't see anything off or odd. The biggest issue is the service here needs some work. The staff was very short and wanted us to order in a specific way. We had to scan the QR code and was asked to order only once. They mentioned the system was free so there were lots of bugs. Each time the in-laws are in town, we'll go here with a party of 6 and order practically half the menu and nothing is ever worse than "pretty good." This place is unique in that each dish is pretty huge, so if the prices seem expensive just know that the portions are larger than most dim sum places and ordering widely for a large family is the way to go. If you're looking to dine with a party of 2, look elsewhere. Some of the older and more established places in International District are a bit better, but this is still better dim sum than you'll find in America outside of NY or California. read more

Can't do that, just stuck with 8 pieces of the same dumpling. Weak! The shrimp dumplings were massive though. I was shocked how big they were. The wrapping on the dumplings were nice. They weren't bad at all, just wasn't impressed by the flavor so much. They were good enough. Ordering is kind of awful. It's web-based system basically. You scan the QR code and order on your phone. It's terrible because reviewing your order before submitting doesn't list the items very well. If you go back in the app and order the same item again, it doesn't increment in your cart. It just adds your item as a separate item in the order instead of aggregating them together. We ordered two steamed tripes by accident because of that. Service was pretty terrible. Like, they don't come by to check on you at all. They only come by to drop off food and drinks. We needed refill on water and the staff would like never look at our direction. Stupid annoying. The place is pretty big and filled up pretty fast surprisingly. Went here on Mother's day, so that could've been why, but I was shocked at the amount of people there because Factoria Mall always looks pretty empty to me. The biggest issues are the wait staff and ordering system. They have 2 front desks with no one at them, plus one has a sign to go to the other desk. The staff aren't very helpful. We were told to order using the QR system but ten minutes after doing our order they came to ask for our order. When we told them we ordered they had to check if it went through. The online is the worst and probably the biggest reason I may never go back. The design is needlessly complicated and awful to use on a cellphone. I am sick of these online order systems. The lowest suggested tip on the bill is 15% after tax. But if the staff aren't at the front desk. You have to hunt someone down. Genuinely one of my favorite Dim Sum places. Most Dim Sum places are dirty, sticky floor, and long services. This place was clean and I really like the decor in the restaurant. We ordered bbq pork buns, bean curd rolls, bbq pork rice rolls, shrimp rice rolls, fried taro meat filled balls, and shrimp dumplings, all pretty standard dim sum fare. They gave good portions with lots of stuffing. The bbq pork buns were delicious and tasted fresh. The taro balls were also hot and well fried. The rice rolls were well stuffed, but not seasoned and the soy sauce had an off taste (maybe needed more sweetness?). The bean curd rolls also had a different seasoning, but were decent. They kindly included some bok choy in some of the boxes for our digestion as well. The price is the shocker for us. While their portions were good, each dish was $10-12 which is at least 50% more than any other dim sum place I've been. Perhaps this may be due to inflation, but we were definitely surprised that our 6 items cost $72. The location was near walmart so needless to say the parking lot was pretty busy, but there is lots of parking and the restaurant was not too crowded at 11:35 am when I arrived. It is odd that the restaurant entrance is through the mall and they don't allow you to walk to the other entrance from their front door, but otherwise it isn't too hard to find. Overall, decent dim sum with good portions. Some of the item flavors were a little different than normal, but still tasty. The service was mediocre and prices feel higher which decreased their points. Didn't eat there this time around, but I did order to go. I ordered the pork siu mai and shrimp and chives dumplings. The problem with the ordering system here is that they give you 8 pieces per order, where traditionally it's 4. So it doesn't give you much room to try out other things unless you have a big party to feed. The other problem is the prices, which I think is a little expensive, but you know inflation has kind of changed things around so maybe it is on par of what it should be now. Now the quality. I'm amazed at the selection and quality of Cantonese dishes at Dim Sum Factory! My dad is from Hong Kong and I grew up in NYC Chinatown so I have a pretty high standard for dim sum. I'm so glad we gave this place a try during Covidtimes and can't wait to go back in person once we can safely dine indoors. Here's what we got which lasted us for a week: Juicy pork dumplings (xiaolongbao) - good but got cold quickly due to takeout Sticky rice wrapped in leaf - sooo good, had pork filling inside Steam bun with egg yolk butter - delicious, this is my favorite bun and can be hard to find Pork hum bao - very tasty and moist Fried donut noodle rolls - hit the spot for my husband's craving Pan fried Shanghai buns pork - just ok Pan fried Turnip cake - good and made me think of home, missed the sauce it normally comes with though Fried chicken egg rolls - huge and super tasty Mapo tofu - really really good Egg tart - just like the bakeries in Chinatown! The larger plates are a good deal if you have bigger group, but if there are just a couple of you it makes it harder to try more dishes. The only dish that really stood out was the mini footballs which were larger and fluffier than the typical smaller chewy fried mochi meat-filled dumplings. The chicken feet could have been cooked longer to make them softer and the kabocha squash didn't really add much.
