If you're in the mood for some tasty, authentic Chinese food, Dim Sum Heaven is definitely worth checking out. While the service can be a little disorganized at times, the quality of the food is undeniable. The flavors are authentic and the dishes are always fresh and delicious. There are no carts. The tables are sticky. The food is genuine, as is the service. This restaurant is practically a religion for many people (not me, personally). But it's very much "worth it", especially if you haven't tried it before. It's worth noting that Dim Sum Heaven can be a little questionably clean at times, so if that's a major concern for you, it might not be the best choice. But if you're willing to look past that, the food is definitely worth it. It's a true taste of authentic Chinese cuisine and I would highly recommend giving it a try. Some of the dumplings had too much dough but the entrees were all spot on. The star was the salt and pepper scallops! It's was a bit pricey for a dish ($19.95) but scallops are pricey at the markets. This dish delivered! Big Sea Scallops...lightly breaded/fried with onions and a few jalapeños. The Dragon & Phoenix fried rice was tasty without the Dragon (sweet with chicken) and Phoenix (white sauce with baby shrimp) sauces. Plenty of sauce served with this dish so you will definitely have leftover to recreate your own with rice and scrambled eggs and onion. The shrimp with hot pepper (D.60) dim sum was also a standout- basically jalapeño stuffed with minced shrimp. I never would have thought this would be the end product. I asked for teabags to-go and was given a to-go cup of hot tea (loose leaves at the bottom) free of charge. My complaint would be the dim sum sauce...both from a quantity and taste perspective. It was a little sweet and lacked the vinegar/sesame taste I've had with other dim sum. If it would have been good I would have wanted 2-3 times as much for the items ordered. This is a small little restaurant which has dim sum, but not in the push around carts. You order it, and they bring it straight from the kitchen. Based off of the set up of the restaurant, it has stairs, they are unable to provide that service, which personally I think is an essential part of the experience. It seems like all the nice waiters from Royal China broke off and started their own place or just work there. I recognize a lot of old faces. The food is pretty good. My only gripe would be that the pi dan (century egg) porridge tasted very bad. However, I ordered several small dishes and main courses including the mapo tofu and the Chilean Sea Bass. Jan 8, 2023. Terrible management. Food I'm order bad. I ordered $54 in turnip root cakes, tofu wrapped minced fish fried, won ton soup, and egg rolls. Bland, undercooked, oil, and just terrible. The turnip root cakes contained miminal Chinese pork (which make the dish, and the normal firmness was undercooked gel - a disgusting and unexpected mouth feel). I had three orders of this horrendous version. I got take out. It was so bad I turned around and went back to ask them to re-do after telling them the food didn't meet the past results. They said instead "We will tell the chef." Bye. I've had this same order twice before sim this place. Their English is not good, but I showed pictures. The first two times the food was adequate and the service slow but okay. Personally, unless they make things right, I will never go back. While the food tasted really great, I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone eat here. A friend and I went here for lunch. The place looks a little musty and grimy but not too bad. We had some regular dim sum dishes, dumplings, steamed buns, etc., that were average. But when we ordered a regular dish off their larger menu, a spicy eggplant and potato plate, it tasted amazing and was delicious in the moment. That was until a few hours later, when I ended up having terrible stomach cramps. I started feeling horribly dizzy and then needed to use the restroom. I also spent the rest of the following morning on the toilet. My friend that ate with me ended up throwing up in the middle of the night. We looked up the health inspection scores for this place. They have a 81 B, and it seems like they have some serious issues with cleanliness. Don't go unless you're dead set on spending your next couple of hours on the toilet. read more

We got a takeout order, which you can schedule ahead on their website (hot tip, DoorDash and other apps that let you order pickup cost the restaurant money). The food was right on time and everything was HOT, so much so that we got to pace out what we ate and nothing was cold. I wasn't sure how getting dim sum as takeout would go, but we were thrilled. There were two tables eating when I was there at 3:45pm and they were spaced out (although the restaurant isn't very big). The staff were all masked except for one of the kitchen ladies, who wasn't out in the dining area. Thanks to Yelp I decided to have lunch here. Glad I did! I loved that they had a more traditional Chinese menu as well as Dim Sum (menu on the wall). Each Dim Sum plate was about $4 or a little less. Photos on the wall to help you see what it'll look like. The food was good (forgot to take photos) and comes out as it's ready. So people will get their plates in no particular order. I liked the shrimp and cilantro dumplings and the chicken dumplings. The BBQ pork was good, nothing too great. Soft drinks aren't fountain drinks rather they come in a can. One star on Yelp means, "Eek! Methinks not." That's exactly how I feel about Dim Sum Heaven. However, since the food did not kill me and it wasn't completely atrocious, I'm giving Dim Sum Heaven 1.5 stars, rounded up to 2. Like Seth V. touched upon in his review, this is more like Dim Sum Hell. Dim Sum Heaven is located in the Pinetree Plaza shopping center on Buford Highway (same shopping center as Bo Bo Garden, Thien Thanh, and Chef Liu). The front of the restaurant has pictures of many non-dim sum entrees you can order and the menu itself has many more traditional Chinese (Fuzhounese) entree dishes than dim sum selections. The restaurant's dim sum selection is located at the bottom of the last page of their small foldable paper menu. There are maybe 25 or so dim sum items. If you tell the server you are ordering dim sum, they will also provide you with an 8.5 x 11 picture menu of many of the dim sum offerings. That's helpful. I tried the following: House special Ho Fun soup Turnip cake Pork shumai - dumpings Taro pie "Glutinous rice" shumai - dumplings Cha siu baau - steamed BBQ pork buns Spare ribs Most of the items were $2.50 each, including the soup. The house special Ho Fun soup was decent. It contained soft white noodles, miniature whole shrimp, and Chinese mushrooms. Simple to make and it hit the spot. The turnip ("white radish" on their menu) cake was good - standard for dim sum places here. The pork shumai did not seem very fresh and the pieces were slightly bigger than I'm accustomed to. The taro pie was was like the pie form of the traditional dim sum taro dumplings (the pieces with the fluffy, flaky exterior). I like the "original" version better. The spare ribs came with plenty of black beans, but was too boney. We didn't even order the "gluntinous rice" shumai and the cha siu baau. I told the server I wanted the seafood chive dumplings, but he told me they didn't have those, so we could substitute the seafood with pork. The result was not a pork chive dumpling, but cha siu baau (steamed BBQ pork buns)! I like cha siu baau, so I ate it anyway. It tasted like it'd been frozen and reheated. The "gluntinous rice" shumai is the exact same thing as the pork shumai, except with small clumps of white rice on top. The server also gave us two egg custards, which we sent back because we didn't order them. I'm also pretty sure one of the employees from the kitchen went to the Oriental Bakery next door and grabbed either two of their egg custards or sesame balls to be reheated and served over here. In summary, both the food quality and service at this place were not so good. It's too bad because I want these places to do better and succeed. The restaurant is split level, has fresh seafood (tilapia, eel, turtles) in aquariums by the window, and a few flat panel TVs for your viewing pleasure. Plenty of parking. read more

Tried Dim Sum Heaven for the first time. The place was packed so I thought they must be good. Only had the dim sum and it was just ok. I give it 3 's. - The Xiao Long Bao only came in 5 and were definitely store bought. - The chicken feet were not that flavorful. Had to stir it around in the sauce. They cut the feet in half. Seems like they were trying to make it look like there were more feet then there actually were. - The rice noodle roll stuffed with shrimp was also bland and the inside was a little mushy. Almost like it wasn't thoroughly cooked. - The shrimp dumplings were pretty standard. - The pork and shrimp bean curd rolls were fried with sauce on the side. Flavor was good and had a little crunch. Never had them like that. They're usually covered in sauce. - The steamed spare ribs were mostly meat pieces and less ribs on the bone. The flavor was good but the color was off. - Have not tried the steamed pork bun. Most people there were ordering from the actual menu so maybe their dishes are better than their dim sum. The only items I really liked were the fried lotus (crunchy and tasteful) and fish (spicy and tender). The Fujianese noodle dish was okay as it was noodles with peanut sauce. That was really, very good. Met my lunch crew there for dim-sum. And while we all missed the rolling cart full of dim-sum goodies, the presentation of all the possibilities on the wall did not disappoint. First of all, I have to hand it to the staff there for being so flexible in accommodating our unruly gang. We were immediately seated. And they had a ton of patience as we ordered our food. Which we did standing in front of the wall, and pointing at the things we wanted to eat. Then the good part came. That moment when you've gathered around a table with a giant, lazy Susan on it, and your food piles in, and you can sit there, sampling all the goodness, and just having a good time hanging with your friends. We all dug into the Ma Po Tofu, shrimp shumai, roasted duck, shrimp with chives, and a BIG pork bun, among other things. All delicious. Sort-of comfort food, you know? It was perfect. And if you don't want to do dim-sum, there are other "regular" Chinese offerings to be had on this menu, some of which appear on the lunch-specials menu. A great example of a "hole in the wall" -- if you can get past the not so great/dingy ambiance inside, the food is well worth it! Initially had plans to go to bobo garden but it was too busy so walked over here instead. We came here by default. Aiming for the big dim sum palace -- no names, please -- we encountered tons of cars with officers directing traffic on what is normally a quiet street. (Shoot! I prefer carts since I like to point to what looks good. That's not how it works here. A wall in the main dining room is covered with pictures of dim sum choices. The menu itself lists a small sampling. Sitting in the secondary dining room I couldn't clearly see 'the wall' so we didn't necessarily get what I would've chosen otherwise. Had a few dumplings. They were good, not extraordinary. An order of roast pork buns -- too doughy, not enough stuffing. Following the recommendation of another yelper, tried clams with ginger and scallions (I'd get it again!) and salt and pepper squid, per a fellow sitting at our table. (I'll get to him in a minute.) Here's the fun part of our meal. There were three in our party, including my mother who was celebrating her 92nd birthday. We were seated at a round table that could accommodate a virtual crowd. Dim Sum heaven is located in the same plaza as Chef Liu, Bo bo garden, honeybits. My friends and I came here for dinner around 7pm on a Sunday and the place was about half filled. We were seated immediately and served tea. Since we had a group of 6, we did family style and ordered fried spareribs with taro, lotus root stir fry, spicy boiled fish fillet, black bean clams, shrimp tofu, peanut noodles (dim sum order). These are not the exact names of the dishes, but it's basically what the dishes are. We enjoyed: spareribs, spicy fish fillet, and peanut noodles. The spareribs were fried, but what's different about this dish is that they also have taro, which is a good combination with the meat. The fish was not too spicy, but tender and flavorful. The peanut noodles were recommended by my Fujianese friend who says this is a traditional dish we need to try. It's a small plate of noodles ($3) with just noodles and peanut sauce that you mix in. The lotus root stir fry OK, but nothing too special. Similarly, the shrimp tofu was just a shrimp ball on top of soft tofu with some soy sauce, OK but not great. Our least favorite dish would have to be the clams, they clams weren't fresh (although the staff did warn us that they used frozen but said that they would be good). The food here is A-OK. My wife and I tried out this dim sum restaurant the other day and were very disappointed. Not only do they not have cart service, but all of the food was very bad and unauthentic. We tried their chicken feet, shrimp and chive dumpling, bbq pork bun, and a lotus leaf with sticky rice. The chicken feet were old and bland, the dumplings were cold and bland, the pork buns were tough and bland, and the rice inside of the lotus leaf was dreadfully over cooked and also, bland. We tried their chili oil on the table which was, unsurprisingly bland, but surprisingly crunchy, The only good thing about this place was the tea. Service was mediocre at best and not very attentive. Restaurant tries to pass along an extra fee when using a credit card, so keep that in mind. Dim sum menu was all on the wall and a bit difficult to read when sitting nearby. I'd recommend against trying them out, and go to another dim sum place nearby instead. As a restaurant that has dim sum in the name, we were very disappointed. We frequent many restaurants along Buford Hwy in Chamblee. Some better than others. Three of us really enjoy DimSum, decided to give Dim Sum Heaven a try. We tried, tara root, sesame seed balls, sticky rice, pork su mei, radish cake, and egg custard and the roast duck. All dishes were very good and served promptly. All and all we had 10 dishes, bill was about $75. We had a lot of food, took some home and were stuffed when we left. I recommend for Dim Sum. read more

Although it's called dim sum heaven, I rarely ever order dim sum here. This is a Fujianese operated restaurant that has a lot of authentic Fujianese dishes. I always end up ordering the Fujianese specialty dishes instead of dim sum. I really like their stir-fried rice cake and crab vermicelli (they chop a whole crab and put it in there, shell and everything). That said, these are very "Chinese" dishes. Unless you have acquired extremely "Chinese" tastebuds, you might not like them. Btw, the price is cheap and they open quite late. This is my late night comfort food spot. read more

We have stopped by for late dinner on a couple of occasions now. Here's a rundown of the dishes we have tried: 1. Dry sauteed beef rice noodles (gan chao niu he): pretty standard, tasty. Not the best I've had in town, but decent! 2. Barbecue pork fried rice: the rice itself had a good flavor, but the pork is on the less-sweet side. 3. Garlicky sauteed yu choy: maybe the best dish we have ordered here. 4. BBQ pork noodle soup: tender pork, otherwise unremarkable. 5. Beef noodle soup "with Chinese vegetables", though the vegetable fixings seemed identical between this noodle soup and the BBQ pork one: sliced carrots, napa cabbage, some mushrooms, green onions. 6.
