I always come here for their corn dumplings! It's so tasty that they sell out early. I make sure I get at least three orders because after eating one, you want another one. Their pineapple mochis are also delicious if you like fresh mochis since it has fresh pineapples in it. Casual togo dim sum and they also have rice plates.

This is your typical dim sum takeout place. Would say this place is old school family recipes as they have a variety of products I have not seen in years that most places do not carry. I did not expect to see Bai Tang Gao 白糖糕, Put Chai Gao 缽仔糕 or two types of youtiao. This alone is worth the trip. I had their shrimp dumpling which seems be to a popular item. Good chew and shrimp flavor is pretty good. Their siu mai was good as well. Better than some of sit down dim sum restaurants. I would pass on the plain churn fun, it was a bit bland given how much color it had.

My parents come here all the time for their dim sum or order dinners when it's one of our bday. We so far love their food here but I think it's on the pricey side. We always ask for less oil & salt since my dad is more of a healthier type. We kinda mainly get the same thing. The aunties there are super nice when they're not busy.

I was expecting this place just to offer dim sum. I was surprised on the portions of plates for dining in. The Kung Pao chicken was good and the plate was big. Worth a try if you are around the area.

This neighborhood dim sum takeout is a gem. They have my favorite salty fried bread at a very good price! Dim sum dishes are so good quality at a very good price. Parking can be challenging during busy weekends and weekdays. One can only find street parking. Go early. I believe they open at 8am in the morning. Whenever I am in the neighborhood, will patron it.

At a relatively brisk pace, at least for me, I was actually walking by with my steamed chicken from Pho Nation in tow. I noticed a small crowd was waiting outside this spot, and it made me think this must be a local favorite for dim sum. My curiosity was peaked, so I snuck in to see what they had to sell. It turned out the crowd of people was just a crowd of people and had nothing to do with this spot. Oh well, I went for the $2.95 trio of Steamed Shrimp Dumplings which were tasty enough, just a bit lackluster (photo: https://bit.ly/3j77yAI). The $2.95 Sweet Rice Cake was certainly sticky and sweet enough (photo: https://bit.ly/3j7MwC8), but the best item was the $2.95 pair of Black Sesame Rolls which had a nice gelatinous texture that I prefer (photo: https://bit.ly/3y8WBD9). As far as dim sum places go, there was nothing extraordinary here, but they hit the spot. FOOD - 3 stars...decent dumplings if you're in the Portola area AMBIANCE - 3 stars...a workaday space, definitely set up for takeout SERVICE - 3 stars...kinda bristly TOTAL - 3 stars...dim sum on the run RELATED - In a dim sum mood? This used to be Hoy Sun dim sum/restaurant. I miss Hoy Sun. If you compare the food from back then to now, the ingredients and flavors now seem skimped. Tonight, I decided to get some food from the hot trays in front of the restaurant. Chow mein $7 an order (they also sell a smaller box for $5), pork chop $7 an order and a sticky rice with chicken wrapped in lotus leaf $3.85. If you go a few blocks down, the prices are lower. The food here is OK. Not great.

What are people complaining about? I walked up and down this street looking at all the dim sum options available and THERE WERE PLENTY but nothing looked quite as fresh and no other place had this many variety. There was also a steady line of customers. Most of the workers here speak Cantonese and a couple know enough English. I have no idea why people are giving this place less a low star rating. Maybe their blunt mannerisms or the tone of their broken English is off putting but they sell some really good dim sum for a very fair price! I find that if you're friendly enough to them, they'll accommodate you just fine. This isn't the Ritz Carlton people. Check your expectations. Order 2 kinds of fried meat dumplings: 咸鸡笼 salty chicken cage (hom gai loong) 鹹水角 salty water angle (hom sui gok) $2.95 each order 3 items in each other If you like a fried chewy mochi batter with savory minced meat filling, then you need to go get yourself some of this! And trust me, you'll be back for more!! Due to COVID restrictions they're only doing takeout pickups but there are some home style comfortable foods I'd definitely be willing to try once dine in is available again -- claypot anyone?

Whenever I'm in the area, morning or afternoon, I always come here to grab a snack or a medium order of goodies. The ladies are always nice here, would tell me if I buy 6 of certain items it's cheaper. Always accommodate my order if some thing is broken like 'this shrimp dumpling skin is a bit loose, I'll give you a free one' The flavor is always on point, it's always fresh. They have things packed in containers for cheaper and if it's cold they help you warm it up.

    Egg Yolk Bun $2.95/3
    Christina L.

9 Har gow 2 black sesame jelly rolls 6 egg yolk buns 1 Jung (Chinese Tamale) 1 Large dish to go (Rolled fun) = $28 A lot of people said the service was bad here, but the lady seemed nice and was just equally rushed as all other dim sum shops I've been to. Maybe I got the nice lady, who knows. I was new and she was super patient with me as I was indecisive and some other lady stepped to the counter to order, but then was blocking my view as I was selecting other items. The har gow was decent, good skin on the outside, decent amount of shrimp on the inside, but rather small in my opinion as compared to other shops. It was still tasty though. The rolled fun (noodles) were good -- maybe I was hungry, but looooove the flat noodles and needed a noodle dish when ordering food for my family, so chose this. It has some chili oil in it, so watch out. Just a minor kick. Egg yolk buns -- in the realm of egg yolk buns, this one is just a-ok. Not terrible, not the best. The egg yolk on the inside wasn't runny and had a coconut-y taste to it. The bread was good, but bun to yolk ratio was meh... probably would skip this one in the future. All in all, a good place to come when getting other food or shopping in the area.

Check out this cool hair I found in my hot sauce I had to buy since they're so cheap they charge you for hot sauce and soy saice
    Mark K.

Never in my life have i been to a restaurant thats this stingy over some soy sauce. I order 50 dollars of dim sum and I cant even get extra soy sauce if i paid for it. Foods been steadily going downhill they dont even put shrimp in their siu mai anymore but the straw that broke the camel's back was watching the lady drop my food in front of me and still have the audacity to try and put it into my to go container during COVID and finding hair in my hot sauce. Avoid this place at ALL costs

The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant for 2025, it definitely felt like a special treat and lived up to the experience.

She had the vegetable dumplings and not only was able to keep it down with her nausea, but would also get it again and she is a picky eater. I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. Next came the sautéed string beans and the sear on the beans themselves was perfect and smoky and delicious. The crispness of the sautee makes the string beans a lovely pairing with the soft yummy of the steamed buns. Last came the sesame balls as a sweet meal ending. I love donuts and fresh-made sesame balls are similar to a donut hole just with a filling that is actually food and so sweetly tasty. The outer fry was crisp and the insides absolutely perfect. Three dishes, all fantastic, and I walk home happy and thankful to Bao for a great simple meal!

The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
