A hankering for Mediterranean food led us to visit Dimassi's. This location appears to have been a Romano's Macaroni Grill in an earlier incarnation as it has that rustic Italian decor with stone walls inside. We stopped in with friends on a Saturday night and it was moderately busy. The buffet is one very long counter with many steam trays filled with salads, vegetables, meat and fish of all description. Food was kept hot and fresh although I think the chicken and fish tended to be overcooked. There were also an array of desserts (baklava, etc.) available after dinner. We have been to Dimassi's at multiple locations across Texas including Dallas and North Austin and have always had a positive experience. This South Austin location, however, was shocking. The manager at this location should either be given immediate customer service training or be replaced altogether. Her behavior should deeply concern the owner of this establishment. We visited with our 1-year-old and 4-year-old, and instead of being treated with basic respect, we were approached by Yari with rudeness, hostility, and an unmistakable look of disdain. She told us to put our children on chairs and implied they should not be walking around in a buffet restaurant, where customers are literally required to walk around to get food. The way she spoke to us was not only unprofessional, but felt confrontational, as if she was intentionally trying to provoke an argument. Her tone and demeanor felt targeted, judgmental, and humiliating. There was no politeness, no patience, and no empathy toward a family with small children. We were made to feel unwelcome and looked down upon, as though we did not belong there. This occurred after we had already spent a significant amount of money. No customer especially a family should ever be made to feel uncomfortable or singled out in this manner. If this is how management represents your business, then there is a serious failure at the leadership level. The owner should be ashamed that a manager feels comfortable treating paying customers with such disrespect and apparent bias. We will never return, will not recommend this location, and strongly warn other families to think twice before dining here. read more

Based on the reviews, I decided to give it a try. Most buffets aren't a good experience, but this was very good. Came during early dinner so it wasn't overly crowded and the buffet was stocked and clean. On the few items that needed replacement, it was ready when I took my second trip. I couldn't stop eating their bread, it was fresh out the oven, warm, and tender. Slathered with various hummus, I getting stuffing my face with more and more carbs, totally going against my initial 'protein only' buffet strategy. All the salads and veggies looked very fresh, but who eats that at a buffet lol. I thought the meats were all pretty good especially the lamb over rice dish, very flavorful. The beef kabobs and gyro were pretty moist and covered in peppers and onions which I loved. The fried chicken was excellent, seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. First restaurant I went to during my first visit to Texas over the holidays while visiting family. It was some of the best Mediterranean food I've ever had. It was authentic and buffet style. We stopped by shortly after their opening so it was a little empty but it did start to pick up with more customers. They do provide gloves for those who want to use them. Here you get all the possibilities and more! I have to say this is the best place to go if you're looking for outstanding Mediterranean. I will say the shredded beef was out of this world! Brought the teens here because 1. We love Greek food and 2. They can eat! All i was after was a salad with some Tadziki and I found it! The lunch buffet is around 14.99 and it includes drinks. They have soda, coffee, cinnamon tea, and rose water. The buffet had several salads, humus, falafels, gyro, & grilled chicken which were delicious! They have a brick oven and make fresh pita! The gyros were delicious, I would recommend they be sliced thinly. They were sliced a little too thick. The eggplant and hummus were very good. This place blew me away. The quality and flavors of the food here is superb. Everything is fresh and the buffet is kept immaculate. Plenty of greens to choose from as well as plenty of starches and meats as well. My buddy and I both loved mostly everything we tried! You are instructed to sit where you please once you have gone through the buffet line with your plate. Disposable gloves and hand sanitizer are both available and required before serving yourself. The buffet starts with greens and goes towards the meats at the very end. At the end you will also find the fresh pitas and pizza straight from the brick oven! Drinks and dessert are also towards the end of the buffet line. Worth saving a tiny amount of room for a piece of baklava! It was exquisite and very rich, so the portion was perfect! The employees were attentive and kind. All in all, a great find that I will be back to. There were a whole lot of food choices. The biggest buffet I have seen so far. It's seat wherever you want, eat then pay before you leave. The place was spacious and very clean - no distinctive smell. There are bus persons who clean you plates and cups afterwards and they were very pleasant. What stood out for a picky eater like me: Kale Caesar salad Rice pudding The supper fresh puffy bread The hummus, baba ganoush The kabob was a bit dry but the gyro was outstanding Drinks were included The baklava was scrumptious. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is their meatball tasted "funky", the rice that had chicken pieces on top parts of the rice was cooked too long (hard over cooked rice) and their dolma sat in oil TOO long but the filling was DELISH. I got to visit Dimassi's is only once before the coronavirus lockdown began and have been dying to take my husband there ever since . He and I both got our vaccinations completed, so we decided to go to the Dimassi's Buffet for our 27th anniversary lunch. We were greeted at the door and allowed to sit anywhere. Signs and personnel told us that gloves and hand sanitizer were available at the Buffet and needed to be used with every plate. Mask were also mandatory which we appreciated.We started off at one end, got sanitizer and gloves, and I tried all the different kinds of salad and hummus available! We got drinks and had a seat. The pita bread (outstanding!) was not quite ready, but as soon as it was out, I grabbed a couple for us (with yet another glove and plate). My husband got a little bit of everything he wanted to try on one plate (I'm not sure how he does that) and then had me get pita bread for him. He really enjoyed the fact that the food was not salty, yet was very tasty and well seasoned.I went back for a second round of hot foods after my plate of salads. I especially love the Dimassi's eggplant, the fried cauliflower, the chicken both baked and kebab,... I guess it would probably be easier to say what I didn't like - which was nothing! I finished off with some rice pudding (wonderfully seasoned with pistachios and cardamom) as well as some baklava. My husband had another pita bread as his dessert. Everything was perfectly cooked and so tasty! For some reason, they were almost out of fresh brewed, unsweetened iced tea when we arrived and it never got filled again, but I never told anyone either, so that's on me. It was our first time here, and I was in awe of all the food. They had a 50' foot buffet, ran the whole length of the restaurant. Had drinks and dessert at the end. Cold drink and hot tea. A great deal of care is usually taken in preparing middle eastern desserts but I understand cutting corners for time in some areas is a necessity when operating a buffet style restaurant. Would've given it 5 stars if not for that and the less than stellar condition of the bathroom. The after market bidet really needs to go. It's unsanitary. Would definitely make the drive from Ft. I'll be honest, I don't really like Mediterranean food generally speaking. But Dimassi's is by far and away the best Mediterranean food I've had, heck some of the best food I've had period in a very long time. It's ultra fresh, ultra flavorful, clean and even healthy? Hard to imagine all that coming together in one place, but here we go. It's not even that expensive. Our work catered from here, so I got to try a lot of things and I know there's still a lot in the buffet that I want to go back for as well. The koftka is a delicious grilled meat skewer that is moist and exploding with flavor. The chicken thighs are good too - almost fall apart tender. Bathe that with tatziki and hummus and you'll amp the flavor up even more. The greek salad is a great palate cleanser, the rice with vermicelli is also a great carb to go with the meat. And we haven't even gotten to the best part yet - the pita. I don't know how they bake these things, but it is far and away the best pita I've ever had anywhere and it's not even close by a stratosphere. I thought I knew what pita was supposed to taste like and I feel like I can't eat pita ever again after having Dimassi's. Oh ya and their dessert options are great too. Baklava anyone? This is easily one of my favorite places in Austin. I've visited their buffet twice so far and it's been great both times. These pictures are after a very hungry horde hit the buffet line on Eid but I promise you the buffet looks amazing. It's hard to find halal food that's not a halal cart so it's absolutely wonderful to find a whole assortment of halal food. The fried chicken is my favorite and their salad bar has the best Mediterranean appetizers. The best part though is the fresh pita hot out of the oven.
