I want to love this place. I really do. I've been here maybe 7-8 times. I am such a big fan of charred, wood fired pizza - and a HUGE fan of Italian grinders. For my birthday, I came here and ordered the caprese sandwich but added a chicken cutlet - I had a nice convo with the person on the phone about how this was exactly what I wanted for my birthday and was super excited. Drove 15 minutes to pick it up, got home and they forgot the cutlet. Called in and proceeded to be placed on hold while listening to the manager weirdly explain to the employee why they didn't enter the cutlet into the system the correct way so that's why they didn't see it. After a few minutes of listening to their convo on the phone, I was told they would refund the cutlet or I could come get it. No, actually I would prefer to not drive another 30 minutes to get the item I ordered while the remainder of my food gets cold. And yes, the absolute least you could do is refund the cutlet, considering it was not included. Maybe it's because it was my birthday and I chose this place specifically, only for them to forget the crux of my meal and then act incredulous when I was bummed about it being forgotten. They have skimped the veggies ( tomato, lettuce and onions) on my Italian grinder every time, even when I asked for extra on the most recent one. Not a huge deal but definitely isn't being made with the same quantity as advertised on Instagram. It feels like this place is so close to being perfect, but repeatedly misses the mark. Grow a sac and admit you're charging $35-40 for a large pie. Stop calling 20% of the price a "tip" when it's automatically added to the bill and is not discretionary (particularly when the only service is someone bringing the pizza to the table - there is no other table service). Apart this dishonest and incredibly annoying business practice, the pizza was over-hyped. The crust is delicious, but there's just not enough toppings to make a rounded pizza. My friend wanted to come here. I was not in the mood for pizza. I am from NYC but I enjoy all forms of pizza. I was told by my friend prior to arrival that this was new haven pizza...I kinda laughed because I hadn't heard of that being a region for pizza. Anyway, smelled amazing inside. We ordered at the front and sat outside (covered outdoor seating is the best). She wanted their house special clam pizza (internally I screamed, but I will try anything once) and I wanted some margherita pizza. We got both and shared along with some turnips. The roasted turnips were in a green tahini sauce (YUMMMMM). And by golly, the clam pizza was delicious...right amount of salt. Crust was tasty af. The margherita was delicious, too - sauce was bomb. I am biased because I think Apizza Scholls, Ranch, and Lovely's Fifty Fifty serve great pizza and food, so I was highly disappointed by Dimo's. I heard great things about Dimos from native Portlanders and our neighbors. The appetizers were great, which included Maine-style calamari and spicy sauce pasta. Unfortunately, the pizza was not good at all. The pizza was wet, and the toppings fell off the pizza. The crust was burnt too. Read an article recently that said Portland was now the best city in the US for pizza. Was glad this place was a short walk from my hotel on a recent stay. I called in my order for pick up. There is outside dining but no indoor dining, and at this time masks have to be worn when you enter to pick up the pie. It's wood fire pizza and you can see the wood stacked up inside the door and it smells like a campfire inside. Our pizza was fantastic. Service friendly. The more well known sizzle pie is across the street but I recommend you give this place a try. read more

Went to Dimo's on a Friday night and was immediately greeted by an incredibly friendly cashier who explained their menu, seating, and water station. We sat at the bar overlooking the pizza oven to eat which was a fun and entertaining experience. Not only is it so delicious & flavorful, but presentation is an A+. The staff is extremely nice, welcoming, & attentive. One of the two or three best pizza places in Portland, which is itself a top pizza town. I go here at least two or three times a month.

Fast forward 3+ years, and Dimo's is absolutely my go-to pizza, salad and grinder spot! I only recently visited it in person for the first time and the space was beautiful and service was exceptional! My favorites pizzas are the Rossa and Margherita, which I sometimes add toppings to, including fennel sausage, tomato confit, ricotta and shaved zucchini. Other standouts on the menu include the caesar salad with a tasty dressing along with breadcrumbs that add a lovely texture, and the cornmeal calamari which can be enjoyed with the included dipping sauce and lemon, or by adding a side of house-made marinara or whipped garlic aioli. My absolute favorite thing on their menu is the Italian grinder, which I tried on a whim and was totally surprised by. The generously seeded sesame roll, home-made giardiniera and herbed red wine vinaigrette elevate the classic sandwich to the next level. It's the best Italian sandwich I've ever had, and is a nod to the flavors of Italian delis in middle America's best "Little Italy", The Hill in Saint Louis. My only complaint is that the grinders are only only available on the lunch menu! read more

I had a feast with friends tonight and was amazed. First, the grinder called Beast is a winner. A perfect blend of savory roast beast, shredded lettuce, and aioli. I will get this again - a perfect sandwich. Second, the pies are some of the best I've had in Portland (lived here 14 years and eaten LOTS of pizza). The dough for the crust is so good, and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. We had several pies, but Doug Miriello made one for us with mushrooms that was amazing. I've tried Dimo's twice now once as take out and a second time as dine in and each experience was very different. We got take out on a Friday night, the pizza was perfectly cooked and super yummy. They have the most delicious Caesar dressing. Recently we decided to go back and dine in on a Monday night and the quality didn't match our first experience. Awesome Abeets! I can't believe we haven't tried this place before. We had the Spicy Pepperoni pie, Tricolore Salad and the Brussels Sprouts. All were excellent. I wasn't expecting the Brussels to be that good. Incredible! We had to reheat the pizza since the drive home was about 15 minutes. The pie reheated perfectly. I'm having some for breakfast now! Breakfast sandwiches are INSANELY one of the best things I've ever tasted! I snagged this picture from their Instagram because I didn't pause to take a picture, my sandwich so, so delicious. I ordered the PORTLAND FANCY which was bacon, egg, cheese, aioli and tomato jam. Perfection in that blend of pure amazingness. This is a great extension to their menu and if friends are visiting Portland for the weekend, I will recommend breakfast here (grab coffee first at NEVER on Belmont!). This place is a wild ride, but san the wild because you will be waiting for 45 boring minutes to get your $35 pizza that you tipped on. The pizza was actually fairly decent and the marinara wasn't overly tomato, however in combination with the wait, the price, it really wasn't worth my time. Additionally, I had a gripe with how they treated not just their customers, but what seemed to be other delivery drivers. Kind of were just pushed to the side and just generally rude to them, probably due to the fact that they weren't patronizing the restaurant. Funny enough I did pizza delivery in college, and so I can sympathize with the drivers being disrespected. If I do return, I have learned a few things: tip after I get eat and receive my food, and just not order a whole pizza when I'm on a time crunch. But if pizza is supposedly your craft, I suggest you find a new one. read more

The pizza was passable. We ordered the cacio e pepe. The crust was good; chewy and well-baked, but the pizza toppings were so salty. The cheese alone would have been enough salt, but the other toppings were also salted. I didn't eat the leftovers and pizza is my favorite food, so that's saying something. We also ordered a $12 Caesar salad thinking it would be big enough to share, but were suprised when we opened the box to see something the size of a side salad. The lettuce wasn't cut or torn and the croutons were essentially soggy breadcrumbs. The salad wasn't dressed prior to us receiving it, so not sure how that happened.
