I grew up in New Haven and so when I heard that there was New Haven style apizza I was really up for trying it. Major fail. We did do takeout, and so maybe it was cold, because the first pieces were much better than the last. But while the toppings were good and were reminiscent of New Haven-style pizza, the crust was like cardboard, not very good. But I wouldn't be bothering to write a review except that we ordered a romaine Ceasar salad, which was just a few pieces of ROTTING romaine lettuce and nothing else. Ok.... yummy!!! I'm originally from the east coast and when I heard that there was a pizza place in Portland that claims to have "New Haven" style pizza, I just had to try it!!! The line was out the door when we got there, so that was a good sign. Well I have to say, I wasn't disappointed. We got a Caesar salad and a small wild mushroom pizza and a small spicy pepperoni pizza. Our friends got the brussel sprouts and a large clam pizza. Dimo's is one of the best pizzas I have ever had. If you love the char and crisp of a New Haven Connecticut pizza then you're going to love Dimo's Apizza (pronounced Ah-Beetz). This place is amazing for groups with huge seating options indoors and outdoors. Great drink selections and cocktails will keep any group happy. The service here is great. You can see how much these dudes love working here and it makes the vibe in here great. My girlfriend and I came for a pizza but ended up adding the Brussels Sprouts ($9 - fried brussels sprouts, agrodolce vinaigrette, charred red onion, picked mint, parsley, dill) to our order. They are an incredible appetizer with a lot of bright flavors. But the star of the show was the pizza. We ordered the Hail Mary ($18 - soppressata, rosemary, calabrian chili, tomato sauce, tomato confit, castelvetrano olives, garlic confit, oregano, chili flake, provolone, mozzarella, grana padano, pecorino) there is so much flavor on this pizza and when paired with the crunch of this crust it is a hard pizza to beat. I get the char concept. But the outer rim of our crust was all black and burnt around all edges of pizza. Not edible. The center crust was so thin that is was not at all flexible but only totally crispy and crunchy in a way that I felt I was eating a matzoh cracker covered in toppings. Also VERY salty. The Castelvetrano olives which are naturally a sort of buttery olive were so salty and thinly cut as to have no flavor, but as if I was eating an anchovy. The Caesar salad had almost no garlic, no oil or egg emulsion and an overwhelming excess of lemon. The entire dinner was very disappointing. read more

I live in Iowa, so I've only been able to visit twice, but both times I've gone it has been mind blowing. The crust is perfect: crispy, chewy, but with a little char. The specials have unique, seasonal ingredients but the flavors always work well together. Unquestionably the best pizza I've ever had. read more

If you like a thin, very crispy crust, you're gonna love this place!!! For reference, my favorite pizza ever is L'industrie in Brooklyn. Dimo's is my new Portland favorite. Their Wild Mushroom pizza was phenomenal ($20 for 12"). And the Spicy Pepperoni was also good ($19 for 12"). We also ordered the Fried Brussels ($9) and Fingerlings $8 to share. Both were tasty additions, although a tad saltier than I prefer. Friendly staff, plenty of seating even for larger groups (6+), and clean bathrooms. Can't wait to come back for more! P.S. This pizza doesn't reheat to its original glory in the air fryer, so I'd recommend eating at the restaurant. read more

The best pizza I've had so far, and I've ate so much pizza. Family friendly ambiance and friendly service as well. I sat by the pizza making station/bar and watching the workers prep the pizzas was a cool way to pass the time while I got mine. The pizza was very tasty and I'd recommended real pizza lovers to check it out. Also got the tri colored salad, and the lemon and Parmesan cheese combo made it perfect. I went twice in the past week, each very different experiences, but both highly positive. First was on a Thursday eve with a friend in the bar where we dined on a delicious clam pizza, calamari and a seasonal salad. Second was this Sunday on their first weekend offering a Family Style dining experience in the bar for $55/pp, but involving no pizza. It was stellar-- from standpoint of menu choices to service, and all in a laid back setting. We loved it! Horrible experience. We ordered the spicy Pepperoni Pizza for delivery last night, and it was WAAAAY too spicy. As in completely inedible. And this is coming from a born and bred southern girl who personally loves her spicy food. So I'm no wimp when it comes to turning up the heat. I'm not sure if someone in the kitchen was trying to be funny by dumping about triple the amount of jalapeños on top that should ever be used (the pizza was completely littered with them), but my husband and I couldn't even get through one slice between the two of us. And the slices aren't that big. Interesting side note - the picture of the pizza on the menu AND the description do not even mention the use of jalapeños, and these were definitely freshly chopped jalapeños, so I'm not sure what went wrong here. Ultimately, the entire pie ended up going directly in the garbage. What a waste of $40! And because it was delivery, there was no way to recoup our money or try something different from the menu. If it wasn't for the unimaginable heat, I think the pizza actually looked pretty delicious when we first opened the box. Sadly though, even after waiting a full 90 mins for the delivery to show up to begin with, we both went to bed hungry (other than the milk we were still chugging in an attempt to get our scorched taste buds back). Food was 2/5 pizza was not flavorful at all , tasted like a cheap Costco version. The crust had no flavor and was super dry. Customer service was a 2/5 . He was so cold and rude . Also 2$ for ranch is WILD !!! It was a small dollop AND it was super sour . We also ordered a cookie and it was also 2/5 . The covered outdoor patio is nice but the music was so loud out there we decided to eat inside instead. Turned out the music is even louder inside. We managed to sit as far as possible from the speakers but it was still too loud for easy conversation. I hadn't been inside this space since it was Burnside Brewing. Burnside made it look like an art gallery. Dimo's has turned it into more of a warehouse atmosphere. You order at the counter. Counter guy was friendly but not very helpful. He endorsed every pizza we asked about -- how does that help us decide, if they're all good? We settled on The Father (housemade sausage, ricotta, pickled peppers etc.). Spicy and delicious. Many of the other combos sound great, too, though, so I'll try a different one next time. I also noticed a lot of people eating pasta dishes. I wouldn't normally consider ordering anything but pizza at a pizza joint. So that says a lot for the pasta, it's probably good. Back to the pizza -- the crust is thin, what I would consider New York-ish, but I'll believe them that it's New Haven style. Nice char. Gorgeous looking. Just a darn good pizza. Honestly good tasting toppings. The wild mushrooms and garlic were yummy. But every pizza is BURNT. You can smell the burnt crusts walking into the restaurant. When we said something to the waiter they explained their pizzas are "charred". The waiter offered to remake the pizza but we already had the "burnt charred" after-taste stuck in our mouths. We were happy to find Dimo's as it's close to our house and Sizzle Pie across the street closed. We order takeout from their website a lot. Tonight, when my husband went to pick up the pizza, he was told they didn't have the order in their system. They told my husband that maybe I ordered from someplace else. I texted my husband the receipt. He shows them the receipt. They say they will make him a pizza, but he will have to pay for it. Again. As the receipt clearly showed payment had been made. Upon looking further, they found our order. It was actually being made, even though nobody seemed to know this. Rather than being helpful or apologetic, they just gave my husband attitude. Had a great dinner with family. Awesome food, great drinks and a very informal setting which suits us to a tee. The appetizers we had were the calamari, Brussel sprouts and Caesar salad. Honestly no words... this place has gone to ****. Spent $50 ordering pizza and brussel sprouts only for our pizza to be TOO BURNT TO EAT. Got the Tye Dye Pie, Italian Elotes, and Burrata Salad. Sides were the star of the show- the Slotes were deliciously seasoned and the Burrata Salad was to die for. To be sure, I dig it all in principle: thin, chewy, charry crust; deemphasis on cheese in favor of sauce; quality ingredients & choice toppings; an enormous pie. That said, on execution: the intense dryness of its finished product had a way of annihilating everything but the pungent flavor of tomato; the sauce itself was so acidic that is caused two [very] upset stomachs in my party; and the crust, which held peculiar but pleasant notes of popcorn and toasted rice, was practically inedible after sitting for a couple of hours. 3.5/5 = Solid. Bills itself as "New Haven style." First time I've had this style of pizza. We ordered the spicy pepperoni pie, and the smashed fingerling potato "fries." I liked the fries -- kind of want to try making them at home in the air fryer. The pizza is thin crust and is apparently double-baked in a gas oven and then in a wood-fired oven.
