    Q1.Shanghai Soup Dumplings
    Carrie R.

We really wanted some dim sum while in the city and were pleasantly surprised to have some tasty meals without trying to get to Chinatown.... Since we just didn't have the time. Service was great. LOVED the green tea sesame balls despite their super green color! The pork noodle rolls were not the best... maybe a little over cooked. But otherwise a tasty feast and at a great price ESPECIALLY for midtown. Interior was sort of typical - nothing special. Asian accents throughout the decor.

Delish modern Chinese dining in the heart of Midtown. Sichuan spice and Hong Kong style dim sum is hard to find! I loved the Peking Duck, Beef with Scallion, Stir-Fried Lobster with Ginger and Scallion, Dry Pot Sliced Beef, and the Crab and Pork Soup Dumplings. They have great lunch specials and a private area perfect for parties. Great service!

Joined some friends for a late lunch. What a nice surprise. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. Our friends had been there before and ordered a few things before we arrived Eggplant, green beans and a chicken dish. We ventured off the beaten path and ordered a bitter melon scallop soup, similar to an egg drop soup, but it had a nice little burst of flavor when you got to the finely diced melon. Shrimp & pork soup dumplings were really good. The glass noodles in beef were typical but hands down the whole Peking duck was the star of the meal.the meat was tender, moist, flavorful and the skin was perfectly crispy, not greasy. As a special treat we had a few packaged crackers and cookies and some amazing chrysanthemum and coconut jelly. It was a great way to end a really productive weekend in the city.

My husband and I attend a church nearby, and this evening we came here for dinner prior to a church concert. The staff were very nice, and the ambiance was warm and charming. The dishes all tasted great, and they provided us with a lot of free yummy dessert. We had a good experience there and we will be back again.

Our fist time here. We typically go downtown to China Town whenever we are on the mood for Chinese food. Tonight, we were not wanting to trek from our home in mid town to down town... We stumbled upon Tang Pavillion and glad we did. We ordered (not in picture set) wonton soup and fried pork dumpling to start. Both were freshly made and the dough was just right. Our main Peking Duck was really well prepared. The meat was moist. The skin was crispy and not overly cooked/burnt. The wraps for the Peking Duck are made from tapioca flour which makes it semisweet and a good chewy texture. The pork fried rice was perfectly cooked as well. Don't know if it was that it was freshly cooled or the ingredients, but the flavor and texture we also well balanced. We will be heading back (after they re-open)....they are closing starting Tomorrow for a 2 week refresh renovation.

I find Tang Pavillion's lunch specials to be very decent. They average $15 + tax. Their rice dishes come with choice of a Hot & Sour soup or a Spring Roll. They are swift and they take care of you with a friendly smile. I feel they are a solid choice for quick lunches if you are in their vicinity.

Everything about Tang Pavilion is EXCELLENT!! I've seen a lot of celebrities there, including Mario Lopez two nights in a row!

beef in hot chili oil, salt and pepper shrimp, string beans. Delicious!

Tang Pavilion has been one of our tried and true NYC go tos for more than 15 years! We found it quite by accident one night after seeing a show. The service is fantastic, the big round tables with lazy Susan are perfect for a large crowd, you can almost always get a reservation, and the food is delicious. Its relaxing and just good vibes all around. The waiters are so helpful with the menu so if you like recommendations from the staff this is a good choice for you.

General Tso's Chicken - sorry it was so good I couldn't wait to take a picture!

Popped in for lunch on a rainy day mostly because we were tired of walking around and I have to say, one of the best decisions we made! The food was delicious, I recommend the spicy shredded beef it was crispy and just a tad spicy. The steamed pork dumplings were also delicious as was the General Tso's chicken. We split the entrees thinking we probably wouldn't finish it, but we finished everything! They have great lunch specials so will be back! I also want to say the waitstaff were kind and attentive and the main dining area is not visible from the street, so it can fit quite a bit of people.

Drunk Chicken- purposefully cold appetizer. So fucking good! A+++++

Excellent Shanghainese meal near MOMA. I came here with 2 other adults and 2 kids around lunchtime on a weekend and we were greeted and seated right away. In fact, service was excellent throughout. We ordered 3 dishes which were just right with no leftovers. The Drunk Chicken is a MUST! Typically served cold, the Shaoxing wine flavor of its brine really shined through for an extremely tasty chicken. Then the Shanghai-Style Noodles (customized with tofu) are ANOTHER MUST TRY! The texture and bite of these noods was so satisfying! Then their 8-Jewel Shrimp dish off of their Shanghai Specials menu was chock full of yummy shrimp, tofu, edamame, mushrooms, and more with well-balanced spice. I would order everything again! Let's Tang!!! NOTES/TIPS: **Wheelchair-accessible space and restrooms **Plenty of tables, vast menu. Most entrees come with rice.

We were lucky enough that we came on a Friday around 2 and they were still having lunch specials. We started with the pork soup dumplings (of course). And they were everything and more. They were so full and hot and steamy and perfect. I'm still thinking about them a week later. For lunch I went with the Seasame chicken and my boyfriend got the general tso chicken. Both came with a spring roll and my boyfriend opted for pork fried rice. I'm not trying to diss Miami but we don't exactly have good Chinese food down here. After one bite of this Seasame chicken, my world changed. It was the best sesame chicken I've ever had, and I'm not exaggerating. It was fried but not greasy, the sauce was sweet but not overly sweet. You could literally taste the Seasame. I'm not even lying when I tell you, I planned to take some as leftovers but I ate it all...it was so good. My recommendation to you is run, don't walk, like sprint over here if you're in NYC and want super delicious Chinese food. Also shoutout to everyone who attended us. We wandered over here after visiting the Empire State Building; it was only a five minute walk away! We went after watching the sunset, so around 8-ish, and were pleasantly surprised we didn't have to wait for a table. The atmosphere was bright and lively, but not too much to bring our seven-year-old. We ordered: PORK DUMPLINGS-- best thing we ordered. My. Goodness. The broth was perfectly seasoned and silky. Was always a little sad after the last bit of soup from each dumpling was slurped. ;) Meat inside was tender and flavorful and the wrapper wasn't too thin or thick. Just the right thickness to keep the soup inside until you were ready, but not so thick that it was too chewy or distracting from the contents. Also ordered, the SPICY BEEF DUMPLINGS as recommended by our server. They were yummy. Tasty soup and beef had a deeper flavor. Not too spicy. Next time, we will probably just order extra pork dumplings or try something new. We ordered the SCALLION PANCAKES. I prefer my scallion pancakes thinner. These were a lot like the thickness of a dense pita. Still enjoyed them-- still a nice texture that was both soft and crispy, perfectly greasy, and flavorful. CRISPY CHILI CHICKEN (or something like that) was good but nothing special. Had some heat but not too spicy. CUCUMBER SALAD-- was a nice cold addition to the meal. Loved the sesame oil, just wish there was more, as well as more flavor. We ended up pouring a little soy sauce on top and that helped. I thought it was nice to chase a bite of crispy chili chicken with a bite of cucumber. WHITE RICE-- we ordered three orders of rice that was perfectly prepared, but way too much for three adults. Not complaining, but each bowl would have probably been enough for two adults. Can't wait to return!

Our nits: one of the items we ordered got lost somehow, though they never admitted it; we had to keep asking for the item, and it finally came after we had finished all of our other items. There was no apology or offer to give us a discount for their misstep. Also, when we showed up for dinner there was a 30 minute wait and one had to stand in the hallway during that wait. Next time we'll swing by earlier to get the check-in code to find out how long the wait is in advance. The good news is that our first three items came out pretty quickly after ordering; and the place is very fast with the turnover.

Service is super efficient, to order food you use a tablet at the table and order drinks from the servers. The dining room is beautiful and kind of peaceful. I saw quite a few large parties so this spot seems good for groups. We started with the truffle pork soup dumplings which might be the best I've ever had. The soup was the perfect temperature and so so flavorful. I would come back just for the dumplings. The mapo tofu and sauteed green beans came next, and we ordered two sides of plain white rice which came in a generously sized bowl. Portion sizes are large here, we had plenty of leftovers. We went for more familiar dishes, which were so well done, but all the different dishes flying through the dining room looked incredible. Will definitely be coming back to explore the rest of the menu.

And they also had enough room to seat us without a reservation. Their Mapo Tofu is the star, bridging affordability and savory. Like many of their dishes, it's very, very flavorful and spicy, with the traditional mapo numbing sensation. I'd strongly recommend ordering it with rice. Their mushroom rice dish was also succulent and tasty, and I'd also say it's a great alternative if you prefer less spicy entrees. I do think they're a bit on the pricey side, but their food is worth the cost. Be aware that, again, their dishes are quite rich in flavor.

We got one white and one purple rice. Second visit.. Pork dumplings with chili oil - 3 stars - dumplings were okay, chili oil was good. Used the oil on other dishes.. we preferred the wonton soup. Lobster with ginger and scallions - 4 stars - Cantonese lobster dish that I've had countless of times. Ok. Mapo tofu - 4 stars - I don't care for tofu but L loved this dish.. even asked for a fork so he could pick up the tofu faster. Kung fu shrimp - 4 stars - fried shrimp in shell with a lot of chili peppers. Brought half of it home and added my own colossal shrimp to it and it was delicious. My shrimp was better but the chili peppers made them even more flavorful. My favorite dish was still the beef tendon and I should've ordered it again on my second visit but we wanted to try different things. Place was always packed but we never had to wait long for a table. Service was great. Refilled our waters and changed our plates when they noticed lobster shells were piling up. Shredded crispy duck is lean, crisp (living up to its name) and in my estimation, perfect! A half order is $33 and comes with crepes and what I guess is thin-cut celery and hoisin sauce. Our other two dishes merit maybe four stars. I had high hopes for prawns with black bean sauce and minced pork, but there was little pork and the dish was under-seasoned. Beaten egg white, a component of the sauce, was almost raw and when separated from the black beans, runny and unappealing. When I inquired about 'vegetarian delight,' our server suggested creating our own dish. Four sautéed vegetables for $16. I went with bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms and fried tofu. I asked for a flavorful sauce. I believe we got garlic, but it was too subtle, not garlicky enough.. Service is on-the-ball. Ambience is lovely. And Saturday night, hours before the dreaded snowstorm, the restaurant was busy. Reservations recommended.
