In Austin for a wedding, and my hubby found this jewel. This place was hoppin. Lots of takeout and a full dining room. We only waited about 15 minutes. The staff was quick and efficient. We had an amazing waiter that spoke Canto and he helped us order our dishes. Everything was very fresh. The "wok hey" was spot on. My fave was the eggplant salted fish and chicken pot. I'm sure I ate almost the whole thing myself. The surprise dish was the soy sauce chicken. I was put off by the dark color. But it was flavorful and tender. Not salty and dry as I was expecting. One of my favorites is the king mushroom and egg tofu with bok choy. It comes dressed in a flavorful sauce that pairs well with rice. I came across a TikTok video that suggests to come to Din Ho Chinese BBQ whenever you're in Austin. So this was the first place I tried when we got to Austin. When we arrived there was no wait and we were seated right away. The staff were friendly. It was a very nice and clean restaurant. We ordered about 5 items and the food did not take a long time to come to our table. This is the best Chinese food I had in Texas. Wow the flavor was on point and I've been craving wonton soup for the longest and I finally had some and it was so good. Overall it was a 10 out of 10. It's a long overdue review as I have been coming to Din Ho since I settled down in Austin 20 years ago (shame on me for just now writing this review); it is still is one of my favorite restaurants. I always come here when I crave a homemade Chinese meal. My husband and I would order a table full of dishes (we always take some leftovers home) or just order a lot of to-go food as their food always makes me dance with happiness while eating! AMBIENCE/LOCATION: I like the whole chaos/busy atmosphere of the restaurant as it reminds me of when our extended family get together during special occasions and I love the aroma of fresh and good food! They have plenty of tables inside but they are kind of close to each other. They also have a few big tables with a lazy Susan for a big group of people. SERVICE: They normally have a wait when they're busy (especially during weekends or holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas), but once you're seated and order, the food comes out really fast. They are fast and efficient. We also love to do a pickup order especially during the holidays so we can eat good for a week without cooking and minimal cleaning! PRICE: The price is reasonable based on the taste and quantity. We normally get a few dishes to-go and they would last us two days (a couple meals per day for two people) at least, which is not expensive in my opinion. FOOD: I just couldn't pick which of their dishes is my favorite because everything was delicious I also really love their chili oil (spicy & good) and fortune cookies (crispy, delicious with a hint of orange). We like their fried wontons, wonton noodle soup, bbq pork/Char Siu, walnut shrimp, their hot pots (assorted meat seafood bean curd, they used to have oyster & bean curd hot pot which was my absolute favorite but they no longer sell this dish...sad panda me ), Gai Lan with oyster sauce, Lo Main, and salted fish chicken fried rice. PRO TIP: Add a healthy amount of their chili oil to your rice, and mix well (should be orange) before eating with all dishes - game changer! Usually Din Ho is on top of their game and the food is excellent. Tonight I ordered toast duck and soy sauce chicken from them and was truly disappointed. The main problem? The duck was so old that it was inedible, a really unfortunate outcome for such an expensive dish. The soy chicken was good however, and so was the rice. Solid 4. I come from the Bay Area and do judge my Chinese Food experiences against the varied available Province options in San Francisco's and Oakland's Chinatown areas of those cities. I got food delivered and was very happy with my choices. BBQ Duck and Char Siu Pork was very tasty and the meaty dipping sauce highlighted with 5 spice/hoisin flavors was a perfect complement. We've been devoted customers for decades and Din Ho is wonderfully located in the same shopping center as the "former" Hong Kong Supermarket, a popular stop for our last-minute groceries. Every visit is a treat as we delightfully order excessive food, but its irresistible deliciousness compels us to take extra home. Our orders included 1) Beef Stew Wonton Noodle Soup 2) Two Choice BBQ - Char Siu -Roast Pork Belly 3) Chinese Mushroom & Baby Bok. As is our tradition, we opted for either coke or tea; this time, we chose a pot of our beloved Chrysanthemum tea. As we were leaving the restaurant, we asked our wonderful waitress, who has been serving many loyal customers like us, if we could take the tea to go, and we were uplifted by her warm smile. With my TMJ, I have severe headaches, but Chrysanthemum tea brings me tremendous peace and tranquility. Little did we anticipate a problem from the gentleman, but my friend and I inquired about the tea to go and were told it's not allowed. Their policy is, "you can order the tea and as long as you drink the tea while dining, you get the refill", which is basically hot water, but "you can't take it to go." The Chrysanthemum sat floating in my tea pot, and since I ordered this pot of tea, I didn't think it would be such a hurdle to have it to go. My headaches progressed as my friend tried to understand, but still, no tea to go. Disappointed, we decided this was a sign for us to explore new avenues and find a place that would accommodate our needs. This place never disappoints. It's been years since I've been back and what we ordered tasted just as good as it did 10 years ago. My favorite entree has always been their walnut shrimp. Love the combination of the crispy shrimp, slightly sweetened mayo base topped with candied walnuts. Simply delicious. Another favorite is their noodle soup. We went with their roast duck this time. We had the wonton char siu noodle soup which my daughter and I shared. It was delicious, but I wish the pork had been sliced into smaller bites. We had egg rolls, roast pork lo mein, and sesame chicken. Portions were huge, and everything was really good. They sell the roast pork by the pound, and I plan to buy some before I leave Austin. Everything is great every time. But I crave the egg drop soup. When I am sick, it is all that can heal me. And the chili oil is a perfectly blended addition to any dish. I've been to Din Ho many times and it is one of my favorite restaurants to get Chinese BBQ and family style dishes. However, this review will be for their catering services in which I booked them to provide food for my wedding. I had been in contact with Amy from start to finish and she was been great throughout the whole process. Amy was always prompt with replying to my messages and personable at understanding our needs. She walked us through the whole process and gave her recommendations based on her expertise. Because we had to transport the food to the far venue, I was a little worried that the food might not taste the same as having it fresh at the restaurant, however, everything arrived on time and tasted fantastic. Some things to consider is we also had hot boxes for transport and chafing dishes/sternos at the venue. Overall, we got rave reviews from our guests about the food and we had more than enough food for seconds and leftovers. I want to extend a big thank you to Amy, the chefs, and staffs for making this process go smoothly. Din Ho will hold a special place in our hearts for many years to come. read more

Been coming here for many years with my family when we would drive into Austin. It's "family style" where dishes are shared between everyone at the table. When you walk in you will see (and smell) the delicious roast duck hanging to the left. I absolutely love the soups and steamed buns, which you can stuff with any of the entrees you order. My husband and I were first brought here by a friend of his in 1998 and we have been steady customers since then. Seating options include the normal 2 and 4-top tables, but they also have several large tables with lazy suzans for larger groups. Let's get to the menu, the crab meat/white asparagus soup is an excellent starter, and you can get your veggies with sauteed snow pea leaves or Chinese broccoli. The Fried Golden Bean Curd is a nice, crispy departure from normal tofu dishes, it also has a really good shrimp flavor to it. In addition, they have plenty of seafood fare, including Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Walnut Shrimp, Seafood Crispy Noodle and even Lobster and Abalone (these two a bit more expensive, but worth it, when available). Chicken dishes include Sesame chicken and General Tso (spicy versions available), two of my favorites! This is, after all, a BBQ joint, and their selections will not leave you hungry. Pork is offered two ways, with both meaty Char SIu and roasted Pork Belly. June 19, 2024 We went here during lunch. It was our first time. The bbq was decent, like any other Chinese bbq places. They are hong kongnese so we can understand what they're saying. Like any other Asian establishments, their services suck. No "hello" no "goodbye" no "thank you". I believe it's a family establishment. We oversee an argument between a customer & a waitress. The waitresses here are in their 50's and beyond. The customer told the waitress that she won't be back. I believe we won't be either. If the service stink, it makes the food bad, as well. Does not matter how good the food is. Decor: 2 Ambience: 2 Food: 4 Service: 0 The first thing the waitress grabbed off our table is our receipt, without acknowledging that we were leaving.
