Service was good, prompt and friendly. Food was a solid meh. Fried rice was soy sauce rice minimal egg and sprout were the only additions. General Tso's chicken had mushy breading and dry meat, zero spice. Hunan beef should have been called broccoli beef. Seasoning was sub par first time I have ever had to salt a Chinese dish. Meat was minimal. Dumplings and Egg roll were good. But the dishes were weak like the sauce. Great service and clean restaurant though. Food needs help. read more

Pitiful service. Don't ask for anything that has been omitted or that you might like in addition....you'll get the attitude that makes a horrible experience worse. UnPretty darn good. This was first time to the one on Phillipi and i wasnt disappointed. I went for lunch and had sweet n sour soup and an eggroll. I was pleased with both. The service was superb. The ambience rather old and the noise was quiet. My only complaint would be the soup did not come with any fried wontons or crispy noodle. I had to pay extra for that. read more

I will admit that I was in a foul mood when I had lunch here. Hey-- you would be too if your lunch date dragged you to a pretty questionable part of town with not-so glowing things to say about prior Ding Ho experiences. But I'm not sure my excitement going into the experience would've made much difference. I felt pretty unclean when I walked inside. I don't know what it was-- it just didn't feel right. But the vibe that our waitress gave was worse. A previous Yelp reviewer described their waitress as a 70 year old with the voice of a chain smoker. Yeah, sounds about right. I guess my major complaint with her was that she seemed very matter of fact with little regard for pleasantries, and was always looming over us, in a way that made me feel very rushed. In fact, at the end of our meal, she stood at our table waiting to collect as my date was calculating her tip. Rude much? I save mention of the food for last because, honestly, it just wasn't very mentionable. The eggrolls were pretty good, the dumplings nothing special, and the waitresses' recommended dish of "bbq shrimp wrapped in bacon" (which apparently draws in out-of-towners regularly) was disgusting. Might just be my taste, though, since my date seemed to enjoy it as leftovers the next day. Really, for as much as we ended up paying ($32 for what exactly?) and as little as I enjoyed the experience, I left feeling pretty disappointed. This is not the same ding ho that was on broad st from past years they had great food. Ate their Friday night had pepper steak and sweet and sour chicken. Well, reviews for Ding Ho on other sites vary from "this place should be shut down" to "this is the best Chinese food in the city." I completely disagree with both statements. Ventured in today for lunch. Place was pretty dead at 3ish. We were seated immediately, and service was fast. The elderly Asian lady server was cute in an elderly Asian lady kinda way, and pretty funny :) The lunch menu was really limited but cheap as hell - $6/$7. I started off with Egg Drop soup ($2). Average at best; I make it waaaaay better. He had Hot and Sour soup ($2.75), and said it was the best he'd ever had. I'm not a fan of H&S soup, but I've gotta admit it looked good - full of nori, bamboo shoots, egg and tofu. I then opted for the Cashew Shrimp combination plate; he chose the General Tso's. Both were alright, rather bland, pretty much what you would expect from an average Chinese restaurant. The egg rolls were tasty though, if a little over-cooked. Despite being in business for 60 years, Ding Ho is simply mediocrity. I was really hoping for and expecting something exciting when my girlfriend wanted to stop at this place she says has been there a long time. Longevity in a restaurant should be a good sign, right? Ding Ho is like a really boring episode of Kitchen Nightmares. On the surface, nothing really bad going on here. Seems reasonably popular. But when you start eating, things get a little weird. That the waiter at a Chinese restaurant brings sliced white bread and butter is a strange way to start. Next, the egg roll was very good. Nothing exciting about it, and in hindsight I'm wondering if it was factory-frozen and just thrown into a deep fryer for a few minutes at Ding Ho. The pot stickers were also pretty good, although they tasted like they were frozen. And they were served with what I assume was a jarred hoisin sauce rather than the more common, and more preferable soy sauce/sesame oil served at most restaurants. The wonton soup tasted fine, but was totally half-assed. There was a slice of grocery store pork roast (a theme we'll revisit in a moment) thrown in but otherwise was chicken stock with empty wonton wrappers floating around. And then Ding Ho flung itself into the abyss. I decided to be super basic and order Beef Chow Mein. My girlfriend ordered a vermicelli (rice noodles, not really vermicelli so I'm not sure why they said it was) with pork dish. It sounded weird but could have been great. Her dish was full of brine shrimp. I think it's pretty weird already to mix meats outside of sausage, meatloaf, or sandwiches, but throwing shrimp into a pork dish makes no sense to me. Fortunately she's not allergic to shrimp, so she survived. I had a bite and found it flavorless and mushy. Generally very unpleasant. My food, however, was quite honestly one of the most disgusting things I've ever had at a restaurant. The beef in this dish felt like grocery store roast beef, dry and chewy and kinda gross. The chow mein was just a small bowl full of La Choy style noodles. Everything else, however, was so disgusting I feel nasty thinking about it a night later. Who wants a big bowl of mushy cabbage and onions literally drowning in a jar full of generic Chinese "brown sauce"? The waiter, a middle aged white guy (bad sign) was overly friendly and intrusive while also somehow neglectful. We had a lengthy conversation over whether he had been there seven days or seven years. He very conspicuously didn't ask me any of the how-is-everything questions he was asking my girlfriend or other people around the restaurant. Mixed in with the industrial west side of Columbus, Ding Ho is a family run Chinese restaurant. A group of us 10 Yelpers met @ DH for a 12 o'clock lunch. All of us waiting in the foyer area to be seated, stuff started to snowball downhill from that point. Everything was due to timing. Apparently, the owners of DH didn't expect such a crowd on the day after Christmas. Surprise! Understaffed. Orders took forever, from water all the way to checks (for some). They clearly didn't have enough wait staff to handle the steady stream of big and small parties. Our waitress was visibly slow from the get-go. Piss-off-your-customers slow. The other waitress in the room was clearly working her tail off, which made our group a bit more frustrated, as we wished we could trade. When up at the bar, another Yelper was told they didn't want to make a Mai Tai. I picked their Char Sue Ding from the dinner menu. Barbecued pork and veggies mixed with a brown sauce. Unfortunately, I did not get to try my dish, as it took two and a half hours for us to get our entrees. I had a family commitment to be at, and couldn't wait one more minute. As I was standing to leave, out comes the entrees. Everyone's entree was luke warm, at best; most were on the cooled-down side. More sad faces. Mine was put in a to-go container, as asked but with no rice. The waitress told me they were "all out of rice" end of sentence. Frustrated with the incredibly slow service, I walked to the counter, told that lady I was disappointed in our visit, and how I was told the reason my meal had no rice was because they were out. She proceeded to tell me they had just cooked a full new container of rice, and she could go back and get me some. Not worth waiting one more minute. I declined, refused to pay $11 for my half-meal, and was willing to only pay for my coconut bubble tea (subtle taste, but no flavor to the tapioca pearls; would not get bubble tea here again, as the pearls were an afterthought). Why the two stars, you ask? I did have a triangle of their Crab Rangoon, and it wasn't too bad. While it wasn't hot, The innards where just ok. Also, their small-size wonton soup bowl was big and full to the brim with wonton and pork. I had a spoonful of the cooled down broth, and it was flavorful. Wouldn't mind giving it a try HOT. I would come back on a normal day and give DH another try, but only if I'm specifically invited. The dismal service was obviously due to the low staff. Perhaps DH should evaluate their abilities to cover positions for the 2018 Christmas holidays. If more staff will not be able to work, or request off, they perhaps need to shut down the day after. read more

My husband and I pass this restaurant often enough, always saying "we should check it"...tonight we did for the first, and last time. We were seated and drinks arrived fairly quickly, but it took over 10 minutes for the waitress to venture back to take our appetizer order. We waited around for another 30 minutes or so, wondering if we'd even get our crab rangoon and potstickers before our entrees. The appetizers arrived, and were surprisingly good! Sadly, it went downhill from there. I ordered the beef lo mein (which was mediocre, at best), while my husband ordered the Pineapple Duck. He managed 3-4 bites before literally spitting it out into his napkin, saying it tasted like "wet dog". But a co worker said it was good so I tried it on his recommendation If there were not hundreds of Chinese places in Columbus as good as this would have given 3 stars but there are. It's average at best. The general Tso sauce was good but the chicken could have been McNuggets Just small cheap chunks of bland batter fried chicken They had not even been tossed with the sauce but the sauce simply poured over them. I placed my order using door dash, the order was Pineapple Duck (large) which they did not do, and it was burnt, General Tso chicken, cold...pot stickers, cold and some looked burnt on sides, egg drop soup, cold..2 egg rolls that were limp and cold ...both rice missing, the egg drop soup did not even looked like egg drop soup and smelled horrid, i called the restaurant, lady that answered sounded like they were in a rush, i explained the problem she asked me to wait, i waited for about 5 minutes she came back to say that i had to call door dash and door dash of course because of Covid 19 virus had closed at 3pm, not even a we are sorry...I have been to many and better oriental restaurants in Columbus, def they are not one read more

I heard a lot of good things about Ding Ho, but was not impressed at all when I tried it tonight. My husbands General Tso chicken was watered down and the chicken had an odd texture to it. The rice was cold and very dried up! I got sesame chicken and it wasn't anywhere close to what we expected it to be. I wouldn't recommend going here at all, unless you want a stomach ache and pure disappointment. Update: I haven't been able to eat anything since last night, My stomach is absolutely killing me. I ordered tonight from Uber Eats and first it took Forever for them to finish the meal and look for driver. Second is it's the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. My husbands Hunan Beef tasted like Open faces roast beef sandwich with no spice no flavor and watery as heck. My husband had to put hot sauce and cheese on it to flavor it up. The hot and sour soup also bland and cold. I ordered shrimp and vegetables and asked Instructions no sauce and put sauce on side. Instead i got this nasty watery chicken broth on my shrimp and dried out fried rice. Last but not least Surprise The fortune cookies were even stale!! I got a rock inside of my egg roll. An actual pebble. A real piece of stone. Order d carryout and took it back to work. When I got there the egg roll was too hot to eat still, so I tore it in half to cool down. As soon as I did, I saw a grey chunk of something fall from the egg roll and hit the table with a loud ding. I pick it up wondering what it is, wash the gunk off it, and it's clearly a small piece of gravel like what you'd find in a driveway. Ordered the vegetable lo mein. Noodles were stiff and unlike any lo mein ive ever eaten. They were also super salty and lacked taste. I ended up throwing it away after two bites. Never have I had a place put stewed tomatoes in vegetable lo mein and an uncooked green pepper. The crab Rangoon was also pretty bland. I'll continue to order from Asian Wok. It's been years since I visited this place. I was in the neighborhood & stopped to get a bag of carryout to last for the weekend. Gen Tso's was awful. The chicken wasn't properly breaded and the chicken fat was hanging all over the meats in dripping clumps...YUK. The sauce was OK but didn't help with the way the chicken was used. A teeny tiny carton of rice came with it...could they spare any more? I also got egg rolls...utterly tasteless. So much for the food lasting the weekend as it went to the trash. I've have been coming to Ding Ho for my whole life. My mother worked at GM and would bring us in as children. Ding ho holds a special place in my heart! They have THE best egg rolls EVER! What I think that some people have a problem with at Ding Ho is they are expecting (American) Chinese food and it is actually more traditional Cantonese. So if you think that you're going to get a General Tso or Kung Pao Chicken that you could get at the mall or in the frozen section, you'll be disappointed. My favorite things to get would be any of the fried rice (heavenly and huge portion) or the Happy Family (combo of all meat and veggies in a delicious brown sauce)! You also can not go wrong with making it a complete meal with THE best wonton soup, egg roll, spare rib and shrimp. Now I have had my share of not -so- good experiences here but they have corrected and satisfied me to the fullest with any issues with new food or discount cards. Anytime a friend from out of town come to visit I take them to Ding Ho. read more

Man oh man have I fretted over this review for a couple of years. Going against the thoughts of my Yelp friends, I must say that I love Ding Ho Far West Cantonese Cuisine Restaurant. It has always been an exotic place to me ... When I was a youngsta (not a gangsta and no hispta here), the place on Broad Street was the bomb. Everyone dressed up. They had off duty sherrifs in the parking lot directing traffic across a busy West Broad Street. White linen on the tables. Auddino's Italian Bread (and rolls!!!!!!!!) with your meal. A Shirley Temple from the Pagoda Lounge, while Mom and Dad enjoyed a Tom Collins and a beer. Yup Life was good in the Dan D family....lol. My first Chinese here - the little silver servers containing Chicken Sub Gum with almonds, stcky sweet and sour chicken with pineapple (no veggies please), wor sue gai with the brightest orange gravy I have ever seen in a restaurant. WonTon soup chock full of dumplings with carved roasted bbq pork layered on top of the folded won tons. Chicken Egg Foo Yung patties drenched in the ugiiest brown gravy, but so yummy a dish I can't resist it any time I'm there. Huge scoops of white sticky rice....and the best thing in the HOUSE....THE EGGROLL. Holy crap, twice the size of an every other restaurant egg roll - filled with cabbage, pickled cabbage, shredded meat, a mushroom or two, and maybe a bit of peanut butter. Besides the competing Dragon Palace, there is only one restaurant in Cleveland that makes their rolls the same way. And on the table, one container of kick ass nostril clearing hot Chinese mustard and another container filled with ORANGE GOLD. The Ding Ho duck sauce - sweet with apricot and sour with vinegar, man this stuff enhances the flavor of ANYTHING on the menu. The CHicken Lo Mein is THE BEST in the city. Chinese wheat noodles in a rich chicken broth filled with bok choy, mushrooms, slivered pea pods, onions, celery, green onions, water chesnuts, and bamboo shoots. Poo poo Cantonese cuisine if you will, but I had the same noodle bowl in Cuepertino CA (an Asian neighborhood of San Jose). And that's where people trip up on the Ding Ho - they expect Szechuan and Hunan cuisine to be expertly prepared, like you're at Joey Chang's. It isn't going to happen, the menu may bow to one Hunan Chicken or Szechuan Chicken dish or that foul tatsing General Tso's crap that everyone has overbreaded and over sauced to DEATH. Don't do it - everyone uses the same sauce mix anyhow...... Come here and go for something truly Cantonese....like the chicken bok choy, the chicken broccoli stir fry, the chicken cashew in a white sauce with onion and bite sized peapods. The Egg Foo Yung, the Chop Suey, Chow Mein, CHicken with Lemon Sauce, and COlumbus' own wor sue gai, supposedly served in the original Jong Mea restaurant and in every Columbus CHinese restaurant. You can't find it in another city very easily. The new place is OK decor wise - they lost a lot of atmosphere in the transition....the Pagoda Lounge is now a huge bar right out of the chain restaurant it used to be. The main dining room is the same way.....a little Oriental like in the paintings and the lamp covers, but not the same as the old place. At least the lounge does have a mini shrine to the restaurant's origins and pictures of the old place. Unfortunately the older waitresses are dying off or retiring - to some they were incompetent, to others they are just a memory of what the place used to be. So, if you go, no sushi, no Hunan, no Szechuan. Think Cantonese...old time American Chinese, vegetable meat stir fries, kick ass lo mein, and some yummy egg foo yung. Definitely get the won ton soup and the egg roll. Enjoy the Auddino's Italian bread. Get a zimbie, a mai tai, a pu pu platter, Go to the other Cantonese of Columbus too - Wing's in Bexley is almost a carbon copy, aside from the scotch collection..... read more

In one word: ABHORRENT. First of all, the server was very abrasive, spoke little to no English and hovered around us a little too closely while were were eating. Secondly, the eggrolls were the only item we ordered that were palatable. Both the General Tso's and Sesame Chicken were gross; since when does fried, breaded chicken covered with scarce amounts of mediocre sauce qualify as chinese food? I have been eating here since I was a little girl. It was always special because we would drive an hour to get here. To this day the lobster chow mein is exactly the same as I remember it. Ding Ho is HO HUM! This is not chinese food. For you west siders that think it is, save yourself some money and go buy LaChoy at the grocery store. It's the first time I've seen orange chicken stock as a base in won ton soup. The soup had giant won tons, slices of pork, and bits of green onion. I got the Gen'l Tsoas chicken. Ding Ho, this dish calls for chicken that has a crisp breading on the outside. This chicken was chunks with barely any coating swimming in a sugary brown sauce with bits of chili pepper. Not good! I ate the greasy eggroll and orange won ton soup and threw the rest away. For $8 at lunch, I could have had something really delicious from Joey Changs at Millrun or Hunan Lion on Bethel. read more

I have been going here since I was a little girl - my grams Midori loved it and this might be the reason why I am so biased towards Ding Ho chinese food. I have not tried much of the menu. I always order pork fried rice and eggrolls - with a side of duck sauce. Seriously the best thing in the world! It's ok. I work close by so it's better than a few other Chinese restaurants in that area. I have tried some of their dishes but it was just ok. The only dinner dish that I think that's worth paying for is the Singapore rice noodles.
