I'm glad that Ding Tea is a pretty consistent shop across locations! For drinks, jasmine green milk tea with egg pudding has really grown on me (even though I'm normally a shaken fruit tea kind of guy). It isn't too sweet to me, so I usually get full sweetness. Last time I was here, I tried a winter melon milk tea with boba and it was really good. It was nice how the initial taste was really milky and creamy, followed by the subtle winter melon taste a second after. Of course, the soft but firm/chewy boba always fits a milk tea well. Drink sweetness is adjustable so you can cater to however much sugar your failing heart desires. Leanne, I think that's her name, was super helpful. Not useless helpful (i.e. they're all good) but ACTUALLY helpful ( this tastes like ____) with honest opinions about the drinks! I've been ordering from this location through Doordash consistently throughout the pandemic since their drinks are on the cheaper side and not bad for what's around the area. They DO NOT have the option to add toppings or modify some of their drinks in the DoorDash app. Typically I ask them to add boba through the special instructions. The store would then adjust my order total on the back end to add the boba for me. This was totally fine with me and I don't mind them adjusting my total because I know I need to pay for the boba. Sometimes I would get a note with my order telling me to pay for my boba through the app. Most of the time I ignore it because I paid for it via their adjustment and again, the store does NOT give me the option to add it in their app. A few times I've left suggestion comments to the menu via DoorDash - but the menu has never changed. Today, my order came with no boba included despite me adding special instructions AND they left a note with my order to pay for my boba via the app. After getting passive aggressive notes for months, today is the last straw. I'm a really boring person when it comes to my bubble tea (yeah I'm from Seattle and I call it bubble tea and tapioca). You will only see me order a Jasmine Milk Tea or an Almond Milk Tea with tapioca and pudding. So I guess I can say I am a bit of a snob when it comes to the flavoring of the tea itself. I have heard good things about Ding Teas and noticed that the franchise has been expanding around the area lately so when I saw we were close to one I had to try. The location itself was pretty spacious, a separate seating area for patrons planning on staying longer and a nice little bar stool area for quick stops. And being 2018, the walls were IG friendly and beautifully but simply decorated. The menu was pretty extensive - they had a laundry list of milk teas, fresh milk teas, yakult yogurts, lattes you name it. Toppings wise they had everything your heart desires, but rather than the normal black tapioca theirs is golden. (TBH I can't really taste a difference but I guess it looks cool?) Although is a 55 cent up charge per topping which seems a bit high and even more if you get the specialty toppings. One thing I did notice was that slushes were not an option but I don't drink them so I really didn't mind. Like most bubble tea places, you have the option of customizing the sugar levels and ice levels. The drinks can come in regular or large. I ordered the Jasmine Green Milk tea with the golden tapioca and egg pudding, less sugar. The sugar level was perfect and they didn't overfill my cup with ice which was really nice. But what really got me was the jasmine tea flavor itself. It had a great floral taste to it, not too overwhelming but a legitimate tea was brewed. The tapioca has a slight sweetness it which I really enjoyed and the texture of the pudding was light and airy. Great all around. I can't comment on any other flavors or anything else because the next time I am coming back I'm getting my exact order. If you're boring like me and like the Jasmine Green - it's a must!! I don't get the rave reviews. The milk teas lacked tea flavor and were way too sweet. This last visit, I got the Winter Melon Milk Tea with 50% sweetness, and it was still way too sweet. I can't imagine what full sweetness is. The drink had the faintest winter melon flavor, and I definitely won't be able to tell what this drink was had I not order it myself. I'm giving 3 stars simply because their service and interior were well maintained and nice, but the actual tea was horrible! I ordered a brown sugar milk tea, which looks absolutely nothing like the online pictures, and tasted completely wrong. I am disappointed in the quality of the drink making, because I'm pretty sure it was just an issue with blending the ingredients together to taste normal. Ding Tea will soon be everywhere in Orange County with many locations opening soon. We have been wanting to try Ding Tea for a long time but never had a location close to us. Finally we made it and are glad that we did. We ordered the lychee green/black tea with 70% sweet. This turned out to still be too sweet but the flavor was good. We also got the oolong milk tea with 70% sweet. I really enjoyed this, just the right sweetness, a slight bit heavy on the milk, but a good tea flavor. The other thing that I really like about Ding Tea is that their prices are very reasonable and competitive. Some of these new tea places are getting out of control with their prices. Ding Tea Costa Mesa is HANDS DOWN my favorite location. I've been to just about every Ding Tea in OC and none of them match this one. Amazing service and their drinks are consistent! Everything tasted watered down and as if there is something missing. I got a jasmine milk tea that straight up tasted like milk as did the taro milk tea. Finally tried their drinks since everytime I searched Yelp for bubble tea there was always a location near me, I figured they have to be good and they did not disappoint! I love that I can taste every element of the milk tea and the boba is the perfect concistancy of chewy yet firm (which many others have stated in their reviews). The prices are competitive with other shops and honestly I would have been happy even if I paid more since I have paid a higher price for less than satisfactory bubble tea elsewhere. The milk tea was good and not too sweet, which complimented well with the boba. The golden boba was sweet in a unique way! There might be a bit of caramel in there or something.
