There was a 2.5 hour wait or I could make an appointment for 2 days later! With car seats in my car and no other option, I was in a panic! I've been here at least a dozen times with the five cars that I own. Historically, they have always been great which is why I've been loyal not only to Discount tire, but also this location. Shame on me for not writing a good review in the past as I took things for granted. So why the poor rating? They did a bait and switch on me. Despite my loyalty, they quoted me a price for a set a tires (in person) and when I went back a week later to have them installed the price more than doubled. (shame on me for not getting in writing, but we had a good history). They denied ever giving me the quote, essentially calling me a liar without actually using those words. I had no choice but to pay it as I was turning my car in. Thomas and Matt were the two sales people upfront and as I was asking them what type of operation quotes one price and then doubles it a week later, the response I got was "Sir, we are paid by the hour". I'm still scratching my head on this one. It gets better. Just 3 days after installation, my low tire pressure light goes on. I drove by there to have them take a look and was told "it might take awhile" as I didn't have an appointment. I probably won't go there again. Too many other options around Carlsbad/Encinitas/San Marcos area to choose from. Time to move on. read more

I stopped in to get a quote and make sure the tires I needed were in stock. They were not onsite but could be first thing in the morning. I was instructed that I could either show up at 930 AM or wait for the call at 930 the very next morning. The next day at 950 AM and still no call. I head on down after not being able to get through on the phone. I also feared the reason they didn't pick up was due to how busy they might be. When I walked in an noticed how busy it was I knew this was not a good day to be here. The individual who proceeded to help me at the counter says "what brings you in?" I'm here to get my tires I ordered yesterday. I mentioned to the guy I was expecting a call and also couldn't get through to anyone by calling in. He doesn't respond to my statement and then asks if I have an appointment. I was told to be here at 930/945. I wasn't provided an official time by the person who ordered my tires. He informs me it's a three hour worst case scenario turnaround. Ok, it is what it is let's add me to the cue. The first guy screwed me by not setting me up with an actual appointment or informing me of the potential long wait as a walk-in by just coming in the next day. Three hours later I walk in expecting to see my car at the very least wrapping up and it has yet to be even touched. I check-in with the front desk and they say "well, we got backed up". No apology just states the facts. I will now have to wait till the work is completed. My car is still in the cue and I'm not even the next car in. My day is ticking away and now three hours and thirty minutes later they pull it in. I get it these guys can get busy but not answering the phone, not calling me to let me know my order had arrived, increased delays with no update and not advising or scheduling me an appointment when instructing me to come in the very next day is just poor customer service. I also could see a manager in his hideaway of an office and I didn't once see him come out to assist anyone. They do text the moment the vehicle is complete. The work is now complete but an hour later than when it was promised, totaling over four hours. My wheels and tire now have grease that they used to slip on the new tires onto the wheel. I'll never understand why they do a such a slop job with this. I hope it will either come off with a little effort or dry out all together and flake off. Lessons Learned: Have an Appointment. Don't expect the onsite team to answer the phone, call you back nor update you regarding your vehicles place in the cue if delayed. Be prepared to have residual gunk on your tire(s) and wheel(s) from mounting. read more

I look for convenience when I pimp out my ride with new tires. Inevitably tires fail and when they do you are at the mercy of a tire store. When I bought the tires I did not think about how many times I would return for balancing, repair and rotation. But bad things happen to good tires. I had to take an unexpected trip on July 4 and my tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) warned me that I had bad pressure. Visual inspection confirmed that my backside was flat. I had only 1,400 miles on the tires but I got screwed. Literally. The spare tire sure came in handy, along with my tire contract. I brought the car in the very next day and they removed the screw, patched it up and put everything back together. And it was all free. I watched the employees do their dirty work and they have their hands full. They jacked my car up, repaired and checked the bad tire, filled up all of the tires to the correct pressure, put the spare back where it belongs and then polished all of the tires. That is a lot of work! I am glad that Discount tires did it and not me. read more

It's tough to complain about some places. Which is a good thing, I assume, meaning that they did what you want and without much fuss. I would think the bulk of people writing bad reviews for repair shops and the like are doing so because their engine fell out when they drove off the lot or it didn't fly, Doc Brown Style, like they asked for. So, it's good to see such a shop that comes with high marks from the get-go. I've been coming to this Discount Tires ever since my '03 Tacoma needed it's second set of new tires. After paying an arm and a leg for a fresh double pair at the Toyota Dealership, I came here because it was conveniently located close to my house. Now I come because I know it will be done cheap, reliably, and quick. That's the car repair trifecta, right there. Anyway, I typically come in only needing a single tire. They give me a quick, requisite sales pitch for at least one more and, after I turn that down, they immediately explain how they will rearrange the remaining three to ensure the best match in balance with the new one. There's a quote for time, typically an hour and fifteen minutes that almost always is finished in less than 45, and I'm on my way. About my only qualm is that the price on the tire that I usually get sometimes fluctuates each visit, but it's a minor quibble. Paying $59-$79 for a single Hankook once a year or so suits me just fine; I don't go off-road anymore, I'm really not in need of anything more than their cheapest tire, and the guys over at Discount never press or pressure for something on the higher end of the scale. At most, they may raise an eyebrow at some minor cracking, tell you to keep a watchful eye, and come back as soon as you're able or see a cable poke through. Remembering this, Discount Tire immediately popped in my mind when I turned my car on and saw the illuminated exclamation point and the incessant beeping alarming me that my tires needed attention. Took my car in because one of my back tire was leaking from a nail that I got a couple years ago, but they weren't able to fix it because the way the other shop plugged it. Lesson learned. The day before I was told by the service agent at Mini Cooper that I needed a new tire because my tire was damaged by a nail. I ordered two more tires for the rear of my car and they came in during shutdown, now that things are opening a bit I went in to have the other two tires put on. Nathan was quick to greet me and told me they would see if they could patch up the hole in my tire. His kind demeanor calmed me down immediately.
