I have friends in La Canada that always want to go here for brunch, but honestly, I am not sure why. I have been here probably 3-4 times. I've tried their Cobb salad, hamburger, and most recently the short rib sandwich. Everything is very bland and average. The short rib sandwich had mustard and cheese on it but was still very bland. I think the bread could have used some sauce / seasoning. Also, the onion rings were way too big and burnt on the outside. Service is attentive and ambiance has a farmhouse feel to it but the food is very average. read more

I've lived in the area for a few years but never thought to try Dish. A friend recently invited me to check it out since she loves it and now I know why I haven't been. The ambiance inside reminds me of a colorful version of Cracker Barrel and not in a good way. The interior is extremely run down that it makes you not want to dine in. I decided to order my son a strawberry banana smoothie with a side of fries since he had already had lunch. It was all very good! Then I ordered myself a salad with salmon. I wish I had taken a picture of it but basically it was a sad excuse of a salad. There were some greens and then there were barely any other veggies on the salad besides a couple of tomatoes cut up into quarters. Beneath the massive amount of crispy shoe string onions that covered the salad, I found a small salmon filet. The onions over powered the entire salad. This salad was $22 and was far from it! You would be better off getting a sandwich here because those were massive. As for the three stars, the service was better than I expected but not great! Our waitress was so freaking sweet but I think she was waiting on a few different tables, so she kept disappearing. That was definitely not her fault. Anyways will I frequent this restaurant again? We had an early breakfast here after driving around looking for a place to eat on Easter before hitting Descanso Gardens. What a treat. Delicious California Eggs Benedict and omelette and their house drip coffee is really a cut or 2 above anything that doesn't come out of an espresso machine. Dish is a definite home away from home. It's such a unique and cozy diner. You won't find many diners like this. It's the place where you immediately feel comfortable and welcomed. I remember coming here during the pandemic and sitting on the patio and Martin was constantly there checking on us and refilling our water. Over the years it's been a go to place and I've gotten to know everyone and they are all so warm and friendly and inviting. This is one place where I try many different things on the menu (I'm usually the type to find that thing I like and stick to it), but here everything is good and whenever there are specials they are especially good. Good food, okay service. Came here for our friends birthday brunch. Once our second half of the party arrived, no one came to our table for 20 min, not even to offer us drinks. Then they switch our menus without even telling us when breakfast ends. The first half of the party would have wanted to order breakfast, it would have been nice for someone to give us a warning instead of just switching the menus - kind of rude. Dish has been the go-to breakfast spot for us over the past 10 years! The hometown feel when walking in and the toasters on each table (to toast your own bread) make Dish so unique. The eggs benedict is my usual item to order with the buttery and crispy hashbrowns. Although this time we ordered a breakfast sandwich and breakfast burger, both were tasty but very cheesy! I'm always on the hunt for a good Happy Hour, and this place has one. (So this review is for the bar side of the restaurant, not the main dining room.) First of all, there is plenty of free parking. I like the laid-back atmosphere. The bar area has two TVs so you can keep up with the Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, etc. The happy hour menu has something for everyone (Hello, Veggie Plate!) and the drink prices are reasonable. I have tried a few entrees too--this place excels with pasta dishes (easily enough for two people). Often, there are nightly specials. One night the special was cioppino - it was great. Dish restaurant is one of the few middle-of-the-road places left that has friendly table service and good food. They seem to be flexible with sides--so if you want spinach instead of brussel sprouts, ask and they will probably be able to accomodate you. read more

I came into this restaurant on 1/31/2025 with my mother.It was my birthday and she was treating me to breakfast.I requested Dish because I always love their food.Their food was delicious.At least mine was.Mg mother was a little underwhelmed with their pancakes.We both got drinks.She got a Diet Coke,I got some coffee.Never once did our waitress ever come back to check on us or give us a refill.If we needed anything,the waitress was never to be found.We mentioned that it was my birthday.I see another waiting come out and give a little something with a candle in it and sing happy birthday to the table next to us,but I got Jack squat. My friend took me here as it's a neighborhood joint with regulars in a quaint and cozy space. We opt to sit next to the fireplace which felt like home. For smoothies, I love they have a small order vs regular order portion as sometimes I just want a small. My friend ordered their apple salad which was good but over dressed with dressing. I had their homemade potato leek soup which I wish was hot but it was barely warm. Our waitress didn't really spend much time with us and I thought maybe she's not happy but then she light up when she saw regular customers so maybe we didn't get her best service... I really want these neighborhood joints to make it and support them but honestly I knocked down the stars because the food wasn't quite up to standard and the service could be better. read more

So disappointing. We know the restaurant quite well from over the years. Have often enjoyed taking visiting friends for some down to earth but also, at times, imaginative food in a good and happy atmosphere. It was a rather special anniversary dinner we'd been looking forward to. The bar was humming. We went to the dining room. Which is no longer quirky and more down-at-heel looking. But it was the food and ambience we were interested in. It wasn't a very busy evening there, but there was a group of 12 or so enjoying themselves. Nice. Our server at least initially had a smile. We wanted to check out the beers for starters. All she really knew was what was listed on the menu. No, she couldn't say if one was a lager, cloudy, blonde or otherwise. "I don't drink". Thanks for sharing! We do and hoped for someone who could help. She disappeared to the bar for input. It was well over 20 mins. She reappeared. As vague as before. I had to ask for water. At least that came. But by that time her smile was gone. Never to return! Wish she'd not sat us down at a round table with almost outdoor looking metal chairs. The most uncomfortable seats imaginable. My partner swapped them for some cushioned wooden ones. The Maitre d showed up. He offered some help with the beers, though strangely said 'you won't want that, that or that one then...". All we wanted was a lager, ideally one on tap rather than bottled. Not a difficult request. We do it all the time and get further faster! 2 People who arrived after us and sat alongside had their drinks in a timely fashion. And their meal served before anyone asked us if we were even ready to order. We had been for quite a while. The party of 12 got theirs in first. It wasn't looking good for us then. We decided not to prolong the experience. We asked for the bill to pay for the beer. "Something come up?" Was his cursory and, frankly, disinterested question. You know? If you'd really wanted to some input you might have put that question differently and then something might have been salvaged from what felt like negligent and frankly dull, pretty unwelcoming service. Our evening wasn't spoiled. But staying would have been a mistake. We found a wonderful alternative. Won't be returning to Dish. A shame really. You could have knocked me over with a feather. We were headed to JPL for a tour and wanted to have lunch before going. We just happened to come across this place. Good choice. Cute place, looks like a home turned into restaurant. I had the portobello burger with sweet potato fries, very tasty. Besides the portobello it also had some little sautéed mushrooms too. Instantly loved it. Attitude, ambience, menu - awesome. Went for breakfast after our #tenthousandstepsper day - and the three of us tried it all: eggs, waffles, steak and eggs. Will say: been there, saw and tasted it, and a lot, as I may say and much to the dismay of my doctor who is in my back to lose a few pounds. Quite a few, as I may add, which is why my wife and I walk ten thousand steps per day, where- and whenever we can - and explore a lot of new exciting places - places you may oversee when just driving by. While I love to share my experience with others, I am sometimes shocked how people use their "power of word" to down-rate amazing places because of minor incidents (in my all time favourite​ restaurant Le Petit Four on Sunset Plaza the owner was even called a racist as he refused to toast the (free) bread in his packed restaurant - they simply do not offer toasted bread, as no French​ place does, as I may add). Or I just read "Chicken piccata so over-salted I hope the dog enjoys the leftovers tomorrow, I brought home most of the dish." Did they speak to their service? How could the restaurant learn that something was wrong when patrons even have their leftovers​ boxed to take home? As a dog owner,​ I want to take the writer and shake him or her really bad and say "you give over-salted food to your dog? Anyone with a bit of brain understands this is a horrible idea...​ I hope you agree. So If I had the say on this portal, I would offer just to see ratings of my friends. So I would see what the ratings were by like-minded people. Sadly, I have no say. I try not to compare apples with oranges. A place like this simply does not compare to "The Ritz". At first,​ I assume that a restaurant is clean, they do not greet you with a gun - and they deliver whatever they promise. I do not give stars for things that are expected. In my rating scheme, three or more stars are awarded if they actually exceeded my expectation. Four, if I am sure I will come back. Overall pretty good. The fries, potatoes, and eggs Benedict were great, but the breakfast burrito was missing something - it was a bit dry. A better salsa or hot sauce would probably help a lot with this. I'd also say don't get the "grilled" version unless you like a crunchy tortilla. I'd prefer a soft warm tortilla for a breakfast burrito. There are better breakfast burritos near by, so that's my only reason for the 4 star. read more

I think this place deserves more credit than it gets. The food is pretty good, there's plenty of seating, the prices are fair and the atmosphere is super pleasant (nice servers, etc.). I started with a pomegranate mimosa. They actually have a few flavors. These are really healthy pours, which i love ... though the flavors isn't anything special. Might be best to go with a plain mimosa. I've had the Eggs Benedict and the chorizo scramble. Both were quite good. They cooked the benedict great and the chorizo scramble had a nice chorizo to potato ratio. Both were hearty meals and great for the cost. Not sure why this place was rated low and glad I tried it. There is plenty of parking. I walked in and I felt so cozy with the interior decor, American flag displayed in the main dining area. I split my tuna melt sandwich with my friend and she split the ginger salad. They were both delicious. The onion rings were pretty good. The service upon entry to the wait staff was excellent. They were all friendly and made sure we're were without during our stay. We decided that because there were a multitude of different items on the menu, we would be repeat customers. read more

Met up with some friends last weekend at Dish. Seated just before 11:30am on a Sunday and we were given the lunch menu. Apparently, the full breakfast hours had passed quite a bit earlier. Nevertheless, there was a one-page menu of select breakfast / brunch items. When you are in the mood for brunch, we brunch! I went with the spinach and feta cheese omelette with hash-browns and an English Muffin on the side. The omelette was average, but without any frills or flavor, however. The hash-browns were also just average, and not very hot. The English Muffin was not warm at all. The servers were extremely friendly, which is the saving grace for this place. The inside seating is a bit odd, with mismatched tables, chairs, colors and linens. It reminded me of breakfast at my grandparents home, Hummel collection included. The prices are slightly more expensive than say an IHOP or Denny's but there isn't enough tasty food or service value to make me want to come back. Next time I want to brunch, lunch, linner or dinner, I'll probably go ahead and opt out of eating from this Dish. read more

I always give a place two opportunities to make an impression. The first time here, it was pre-pandemic and pretty good. Lunch with my companions today was definitely not okay for me. My friend had a patty melt with fries (good but the medium bright patty was more medium rare) and a vegetable breakfast burrito with pico de gallo (breakfast served till 2 pm). That was good, too, although my companion would have preferred salsa over ketchup in a little cup and much less pico de gallo, which was almost impossible to shove into the burrito. My dish---which I sent back---was the veggie burger. They make their own patties, but I have to say that I was deeply disappointed. When cutting it in half to make it easier to bite into, the patty actually smeared like a pâté. The texture was so off-putting that I decided then and there to leave it uneaten. The onion rings were super dark brown and very oily and I didn't want to eat them either. I asked for them to take the dish away. To their credit, I was not charged for the item, which is worth saying. When I ordered the veggie soup as an alternative, I could only eat the crackers. The soup was so incredibly salty that I couldn't eat beyond one spoonful. One of my companions took a sip and agreed. I left it behind, as well. Surprisingly, even though there were multiple passes of our table by the manager, the server and the busser, no one questioned why the soup was left untouched. AMBIANCE: Cute for families and friends, with two fireplaces that can be quite lovely in the winter. MENU: Varied American comfort food, including options for vegetarians and pescatarians. We asked, when making our reservation if we could bring a special birthday cake & that we would happily pay a cake fee (like a corkage fee). We would be sure & tip the waiter extra if he could bring the cake out with the candles, which we brought along with paper plates, forks, napkins & a cake slicer to minimize the mess. We were told that this was fine & would be no problem. From the beginning of our meal, the waiter appeared very disinterested in our party of 11. He took our order, dropped the food and then never came back to even check how our dinners were or to ask if we needed anything. We had to flag him down for water refills. After our meal, the waiter brought the cake to our table still in the bag, placed it on the table, and walked away. We had to drag it out of the bag and put the candles on it. We did not see the waiter again until he brought the check. At this time we paid in cash for our $301.00 bill. The waiter came back out to tell us that we were short $20.00. Which, I found hard to believe, but didn't want to argue. I gave him my CC and asked him to charge the debit card the $20.00. He brought the receipt out and I signed it for the $20.00 charge. The waiter failed to mention the following: He accidentally charged the entire $301.08 to my DEBIT card. He just brought out the $20.00 receipt. I went to check my bank account the following morning & saw that $301.08 had been deducted from my account. What I am thinking is, the waiter kept the cash & charged my card for the entire meal! I stayed calm saying to myself, this will all be taken care of. I drove down to the restaurant with the attitude, I am not going to get upset, I am sure this was a mistake and they will make this right" I went in and spoke to the manager the following morning & he explained what happened. The waiter accidentally charged my debit card but then he also reversed the $301.00 charge. I understand that mistakes happen but the waiter should have told me that very night of his error. I should have been given the choice of either taking back the cash or leaving the charge on my debit card. I am out of the $301.08 until next Thursday. This is how long the reversed transaction will take to rectify. To add insult to injury, his charge against my account overdrew my account for which I incurred a bank overdraft charge of $35.00 I came in with the attitude, not get upset, they are going to make this right" This attitude quickly changed when I stated to the manager "I don't make a lot of money & this is a lot of money for me to be out of for a week because of their mistake. (It is a holiday weekend & it will take three business days to process) The manager responded with the statement. "I don't make a lot of money either! What a jerk statement to make. I now have a negative balance in my account & this is his response to my dilemma. Instead of saying I understand, I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you, what can we do to make this right, or let me offer you a gift certificate, I received a very inappropriate response with no empathy for my situation. Needless, to say my 11 friends & I will not be going back to the Dish & one can be sure that we will all let our feelings be known to anyone who crosses our path about the unprofessional manner of the treatment we received at the Dish Restaurant. read more

My wife and I had brunch here last Sunday, 6/22/2025. We have been doing this about once a month for more years than I can remember We supported them as much as we were allowed to during the Covid restrictions. This time we ordered a couple of our favorites, a Cobb salad, no tomato, with a little red onion and a Green Apple salad, easy on the lettuce. My wife cannot eat all of the regular amount of lettuce and does not want to waste food. Our food came just as we ordered and had ordered many time. When we got the bill there was an "custom item" notation with a $1.25 charge. I had never seen this before and asked our server what the "custom item" was. He said that management was no charging for extra (custom) items and my red onion was what the charge was for. Now I hate to be picky, but the lettuce and tomato was in quantity and cost a lot more than the small amount of red onion, The owner of the restaurant really made out on this one. He saved more than the cost of the red onion on the omitted items and charged for the added onion. We will continue to go to Dish, but we will be very careful how we order. read more

I've been coming here for many years with my monthly bookclub and for casual lunches and we were really disappointed by our experience a few months ago. Prices have gone up, menu has changed, my favorite salad was removed from the dinner menu (Ojai Chicken salad)... and our waiter seemed very anxious to get us out of there because they were closing. I always have a great experience here! The staff is so friendly (some of them even remember my name!) and the food always hits the spot. I always get the onion rings (phenomenal), and I've enjoyed the burger and eggs benedict on separate occasions. Each of the salads that I've tried has done the trick for me, and I also really love the gumbo. So good! From time to time my hubby has a need for the Dish's Caesar salad. As a vegetarian I ordered the Farmers salad. Parking easy and walking into the restaurant for pickup is also easy. My hubby's Caesar with chicken was delicious and I know he loved it. My farmers salad with green goddess was only fair. Fresh greens but kind of one dimensional on the vegetables. Once home I added some of my own- carrots, edamame and cauliflower just to add some texture. The quality of the greens were excellent but the sliced red onion overpowered the rest of the salad. I'm sorry for the critique. Service great. Fast service and friendly folks. If I could I'd give them a 3.5. read more

Delicious! But be very careful with the mimosas, they're strong and will sneak up on you! lol The peach mimosa was my favorite. I really love how this place doesn't have perfect tables and chairs. I literally felt like I was eating at my grandmas house with the variety of tables and chairs. It just felt homey, especially if you get to sit by the fire place. Their strawberry banana smoothie was delicious. I did regret getting the small because I slurped it down so quick. Their banana pancake combo was delicious. Servers were amazing. Service was friendly and very quick. Wait time also wasn't bad. We were seated right away. I've only tried breakfast but breakfast was a 10/10 for me.
