The bread looked like white bread (Texas Toast) instead of the expected classic and flavorful rye bread. The onions and cheese were a melted mess without distinct flavor. Overall a miss especially at this price but still was consumed. Both days the "server" was hardly there, strange considering the low low table count. The atmosphere was under construction with no obvious work in progress. However there was a sign on the door apologizing. Given they are walking distance from George Brown convention center and the expensive Hilton with a $30 plus drink breakfast, District 7 is missing an opportunity by not opening earlier (now 10am) to entice some of those thousands of people over for a simple breakfast plate or waffles. We chose this restaurant based on the rating and we were very disappointed! We ordered 12 GRILLED wings, Caesar kale salad and crawfish hush puppies! The staff was very kind to brew more tea when I mentioned that the leftover tea tasted like water and was a very faint brown color. When our food arrived I thought maybe we had the wrong order so I confirmed that what we were served was the grilled wings, which were definitely hard FRIED!!! I ordered this based on my diet and was sorely disappointed in the greasy fried wings! The kale salad was served with no shave Parmesan. I had to request and received some shredded Parmesan, which was okay. The hush puppies were fair. Overall I felt it was a disappointing first visit to this establishment. I have to start off with saying this is my first time at this establishment, and the food was awesome. I didn't take a photo of the pizza we also ordered, only of the short stack. It was very tasteful. I did give District 7 a rating of 2, because of the first encounter I had in the parking lot. I was with a party of 4 total which includes a 3 year old. There was a man in the parking lot staring at me as I parked. He asked where I was eating, and I told him District 7. I asked him if he was okay with my parking in the space I was in, which was a designated parking space. He said he would like me to fix my vehicle (I was on the white line a bit). I said no problem, and fixed my vehicle. The whole encounter was weird. He stared me down as me and my party entered the restaurant as if he had a problem with me being there. I totally get it, the restaurant probably has to make sure people don't use their parking spaces for the businesses that share the same block, as they are very close to each other, but there was no need to make a customer feel as if they are not welcomed. If that didn't happen, I probably would have given this restaurant a 5 out of 5. I let the lady at the counter know I thought he was rude. The entire time my party of 2 adults, and 2 children were in the restaurant. I felt him looking my way and it just made us feel uncomfortable. The inside dining room was full so I ate on the patio. The staff were nice and the patio is also lovely. The issue was the food wasn't that great. The fries were warm but tasty. The crab cake burger came with a crab cake, onions and sliced peppers. I took a couple of bites and then opted to take the bun off and just eat the crab cake. I made a reservation for dinner last week because they are participating in Houston Restaurant Weeks and I figured I would need one. The restaurant was completely empty when I arrived (6:30 pm on a Wednesday). I don't know if this is the norm, but it was dead in there. While I was there, three other parties came in to eat. The quiet atmosphere was nice actually, but just a bit surprising. This restaurant is kind of in the middle of nowhere. There's another business next door and then some random houses and condos on surrounding blocks. It has it's own parking lot too which is nice. This location is actually counter service. I didn't realize it at first because the location in Midtown is full service. But once you order, they bring out the food to you and the waitress did bring each course to the table. It's wine and beer only. They did have a couple of beers from 8th Wonder (makes sense seeing as the brewery is very close to the restaurant). You can also BYOB (not sure if there's a corking fee). This year, HRW has $25 dinners which is a nice addition! You still get three courses and the portions were very generous. First course: District salad. It had a good variety of vegetables (romaine, mixed green, fresh spinach, cabbage, celery, pecans, diced tomatoes, shredded Parmesan and lemon-garlic vinaigrette). It was a good amount of food and had the right amount of dressing to not ruin it. Second course: 8 oz Braised Beef Short Rib Pappardelle. Words cannot describe how amazing this entree was! The shredded beef on top of the Pappardelle noodles was fantastic! There was a lot more food on the plate than I realized. Had I not had dessert coming, I probably would have stuffed myself because it was that good. I had enough for leftovers the next night. The meat was so tender and the red wine reduction gave it a nice flavor. Third course: Seasonal Bread Pudding with Berries. The bread pudding had bananas in it which I don't care for so it was good, but not my favorite. It came with vanilla ice cream which was really good (it was soft serve ice cream). The waitress brought it out in a bowl so it wouldn't melt, but it came with a fork instead of a spoon! Obviously as it started to melt, it became more difficult to eat, but I managed. The HRW menu at the EaDo location is very similar to the one at the Midtown location (but there are a few differences). I want to go back and try the Filet Mignon and Tres Leches cake! You have to order at the counter and I ordered the chicken fried chicken which came with eggs, bacon, and potatoes and my partner ordered the Belgium waffle. Everything came up to about $35. First impressions, the food looked great. The gravy for my chicken came in a little cup on the side and so did the syrup for the waffles. Unfortunately, the food was cold and average at best. The chicken lacked flavor honestly and so did the potatoes. Nothing really stood out to me and I probably could've got the same quality food at ihop. The employees were very nice, though, and the restaurant did have a nice vibe to it but I probably won't be returning here. update: consistent with my comment below about the nice staff, management contacted me after hearing my car got towed. They actually reimbursed me. Wow! The good....beautiful patio, nice staff, ice cream for post meal sweet The ok....food ok (had ordered medium rare steak and steak waaaay undercooked but I happen to be ok with rare steak). Good salad but everything else (steak and frites, hush puppies, turkey meatloaf lasagna...nothing noteworthy). Made a reservation via open table, when we got there, I realized it was counter service and no one even was there handle reservations. Very odd. Not many people there (think we were 1 of maybe 5 tables on a Friday night) The bad...we stayed past closing and thought we'd go next door for one last drink. We walked next door at about 10:15 and at 10:20 they towed our car. (We were next door for less than an hour) Technically since we weren't patrons anymore, according to them, we weren't allowed to park there. We had been a patron for almost 2 hrs, the restaurant was closed and now we were out $239. Bad business model if wanting to encourage repeat customers. We won't be returning. read more

Came here for a quick lunch with some friends while I was in town. To start, this menu is all over the place so I was not really sure what to get. We placed our orders over the phone and I went with wings and fries. Once arriving I was actually shocked the building and the menu looked nothing alike! You order at the counter, and the waitress/cashier was so nice and helpful! She told us all about their specials and didn't rush us while we were perusing the menu. We tried the wild boar linguine, crusted chicken sandwich, and the pesto penne/spinach salad combo. Everything was a winner!!! Great portions and great flavor. The short rib pappardelle was to die for, very hearty and absolutely delicious. The chicken caesar my girlfriend had was excellent, she said she wasn't even sure how it was possible for a salad to be that flavorful. Got a side of the truffle risotto to split which was very tasty. The fried chicken and the crab cakes were wonderful for brunch.
