I was excited when my son called me to tell me he was bringing me home a couple of chicken sliders from Donut District in Elmwood. Unfortunately, to my surprise, I was soooo disappointed when I opened it up. Immediately, I saw a paper wrapper that the chicken sandwich was enveloped in (first red flag). After taking the slider out (2nd red flag), to my dismay, I could tell that the chicken did not look the same. After looking inside and seeing a pickle on top instead of my candied jalapeño slaw, which I loved (last, and third red flag), I almost passed out. At this point, I did not even want to take a bite, but I did. NO SURPRISE...It tasted awful, not even comparable to the sandwich I used to make special trips to get. District Donuts, I hope you get it together and bring back the sandwich I adored, and this was my treat whenever I shopped in Elmwood. I will no longer be going to your establishment, as I am sure there will be nothing that will top that good ole chicken slider. Everything about that new slider you brought to replace it is nothing compared to what used to be. First, I feel like you changed the bun; it was not the same. The chicken was so dry, I felt like I had day-old peanut butter in my mouth. I'm serious when I say it tasted like chicken that came from a package that was purchased at some dollar store. Lastly, how could you replace the wonderful candied jalapeño slaw with a pickle? And, I love pickles, but the slaw complements the sandwich so much better. I cannot imagine I am the only one who has complained about this. If I am, one would imagine that it is not at all important to them. I very rarely write reviews, but you did not create a home run with this one, guys; you failed miserably. Please, please bring the old chicken slider back. Came on a weekend morning craving a donut. I had forgotten where the location was, because the outside area was a bit damaged, maybe from the recent Hurricane Ida. The interior was spacious and clean. The artsy design stool chairs in the middle were a bit unique that I didn't notice until after I sat on it, but I didn't like the feel of it. I think they have a different selection of donuts daily, but not completely sure. I got the blueberry lemon and cookies & cream with a Satsuma drink. The donuts visually looked drenched, but didn't taste too sweet or too much so a good ratio I'd say. They ran out of lemonade and the cashier suggested Satsuma (similar to an orange juice, but a little bit sweeter). The counters didn't seem to have utensils except straws and napkins, so I ate the donuts later driving home. The wait time was a bit average (8-14mins) with about 3-4 workers and a bit of customers. If I didn't have to commute far, I'd come more often than I already do (few months or so :v). read more

Came for breakfast and the sliders did not disappoint! The chicken was juicy and well seasoned, the slaw was a little spicy and offset the chicken perfectly. I'd definitely come back for more of these! They were super tasty, looking back I wish I would've just gotten two orders of the sliders and skipped the sweets. The donuts on the other hand left a lot to be desired. I love donuts and very rarely eat them, so I was excited to try these given the popularity of this place and all of the glowing reviews. Stopped in for breakfast with a friend on a weekday morning. Weirdly enough I'm not a huge fan of regular fried/glazed donuts, so I was happy to see a lot of other options. The guy at the register saw my odd face staring at the menu, and said, "Not sure this morning or never been before?" I said I'd never been and he gave me a two second walk around the menu with what he recommended based on my preferences. Happy I took his advice because it was delicious! The iced latte was divine. The scrambled egg & cheese on their biscuit is HUGE as well as delicious. Fresh made, cheesy, eggs cooked perfectly and a super fluffy, buttery biscuit. Because donuts are in the title I decided to try at least one, and thankfully they had this guy's favorite item on the menu available. I was kind of skeptical, but wow these are delicious: gluten free blueberry cake donut drop. They're the perfect size, not too sweet, and perfectly cooked cake donut. Yum! They do to-go orders. The friend I was with often stops in for her breakfast and then takes a to-go order to her husband's office. She's always happy with the way they pack stuff, and everyone loves it. The only caveat is that I can name several places in the metro area with a better buttermilk drop--if that's what you're craving, specifically, I recommend going somewhere else. Ambiance is fast-casual crossed with microbrewery. Accordingly, the service is "order, pay, and pick up at the bar." Great place. The burgers/chicken sandwhich was great. Fries were Crispy and lightly salted like we asked. My wife loved how friendly the service was. Everyone was nice. We loved the look of the place. Reminds us of a pub/bar food feel. We liked the sodas they have with funny names. We didn't try any alcohol but they have beer and frozen drinks if that's your thing. I wanted to be able to leave a better review but honestly it just wasn't a great experience. My sister and I took my 4 year old here. It was a first time for all of us. The employee who rang us up was nice but not super helpful. My son got a chocolate covered donut with sprinkles. I just got a drink. And my sister got a dirt cake donut with a bottle of water. My son did not finish his donut, which is unusual. I tasted it, and it just really wasn't good. The chocolate was awfulNd super messy and the donut itself just had no taste. Still as good as I remembered... One thing about me is if kolaches are on the menu I'm going to order it. Not sure why it's not considered a breakfast-y item outside of Texas so this is my super short campaign for why I'm here for it. Kolaches are buttery pockets filled with sausage, candied jalapeño and cheese (well at least they are here at DDSB). Fantastic! It is a family tradition on the day we make fig cookies to come pick up district donuts and the MUST have Vietnamese Iced coffee. The staff was so nice in giving us two bags of their ice to make at the house. Everyone was super happy to enjoy the donuts and the iced coffee. It makes coming here and laying down some serious dough, (see what I did there) to grab their delicious donuts and coffee. You have to try them at the elm wood location. It's big and spacious. Went for a quick bite to eat. Almost empty when we arrived but filled up quickly. We got there right about 11 so their lunch menu just started. I got the chicken sliders and waffle fries. It was delicious! It cost $11 and you get two sliders with a good size pice of fried chicken tender, seasoned very well I might add. It also had a sweet savory slaw and pickled jalapeños. All the flavors together just made it very very good. There were plenty of waffle fries too!!! My boyfriend got the sliders as well but with the angus hamburger patties. He said they were very good but I think he was jealous of mine . I got a large iced mocha latte as well and it did not disappoint! I've been to other locations of this local chain, but this one is not in the Garden District but instead resides at the beginning of suburbia, a term I use only in the most pejorative sense. I wasn't entirely confident in it, but not only is the food what you'd hope, the atmosphere-a lively open kitchen with walls full of appealing ingredients-remains. The donuts are expensive. Even when you consider they're gigantic and impressively crafted they're still not cheap, but I find myself getting them sometimes, often to share since I struggle to finish one myself. This place is also a restaurant, though, and that's what I came to this location for. It is marginally vegetarian-friendly, offering a veggie burger with fries and a salad and not a ton else. That being said, it is one good veggie burger, and I don't even normally like those sorts of things. It's beet-based but is just loaded with different flavors, and comes with deliciously caramelized cheese on top. Here, they were out of buns (I visited the Garden District location once and found them out of veggie burgers entirely, so bear in mind that supply can be limited). I ended up with a burger made of fries instead, which was a fine opportunity to try a couple of fries. Honestly, those and the salad were fine, but not special. Let's start with the pumpkin pie cheesecake donuts- these were so so good. There were so many great flavors meshing together with this one. I especially loved the ginger beer glaze. The lemon donut bar was good, but was definitely outshone by the pumpkin pie donut. I also ordered the lavender latte, which I highly recommend. When is a bad time for District Donuts? Never! Seriously though, I have been to every single Louisiana location, and I have never been disappointed. I frequently get their sliders and Vietnamese coffee. I LOVE their pork belly and fried chicken sliders. They are full of flavor and always fresh. Their fries are crispy and fresh as well, but they give you a lot for one person. (I usually go by myself for a quick meal). I also enjoy their breakfast sandwiches. Personal picks include the Hot honey chicken biscuit, miso bacon biscuit, and pork belly taco (they don't make this one anymore though). That hot honey chicken biscuit is a major flavor bomb, and sometimes I worry if I've eaten my entire day's worth of calories in one little biscuit. Then again, I live in New Orleans, and I'm pretty sure it's just our way of life now. For drinks, I love their Vietnamese coffee and lavender latte. The Vietnamese coffee is strong and hits you where you need it. The lavender latte, while it sounds weird, it is actually wonderful and light in taste. I love their lavender sugar rim for it, but if you need to take it Togo or don't want it, you can opt out of this. I think it adds just the right amount of sweetness and texture to the drink as you drink. read more

I'm over in Elmwood all the time but Friday night was the first time I remembered to stop in this location. It was after 8 and I was still running after work errands. I realized all the quick places would be closing soon. And then I saw their sign shining like a beacon. I was really pleased that they still had savory options. I immediately ordered waffle fries and a iced tea when I noticed that they still had one potato kolache left. Since John is always raving about kolaches I had to try one. I got my order to go and they warmed the kolache and I got fresh dropped fries. I must admit that only about 1/2 the order of fries made it home. I was too busy scarffing them down in my car. The kolache was delicious, potato, eggs and queso! The dough was just a tad sweet which I wasn't expecting. But seriously those waffle fries may have saved my life. And the tea was good too. A-MAZINGGGG! I ordered a scrambled egg and cheese biscuit and the bruleed cinnamon roll through uber eats. The egg biscuit was missing something, I don't eat pork so I didn't want bacon but I think the biscuit could've used a bit of butter. It was the THICKEST biscuit EVER, I could tell it could be good with the right dressings. NOW, the real winner here is the Bruleed Cinnamon Roll. I would come back for a dozen of these. I've been to District numerous times. I love their chicken sandwich, burgers, and donuts. The chai tea is made from scratch. Really really good. Great coffee too. However, I ordered a house salad yesterday and let something to be desired. The goat cheese was really overpowering and the salad almost needed something sweet and acidic to balance that sour goat cheese taste. I ordered the chicken fried and it was unsalted.
