We came to Grand Rapids to see our daughter at GVSU, and we hadn't been here in a few years so we stopped in for dinner and it didn't disappoint. It's very dimly lit, but I could still read the menu without any trouble. We were seated at a high top table next to the wine fridge. It was very pleasant, not loud at all. We were able to have a nice conversation without shouting! We each started out with a bowl of squash bisque. It was smooth and delicious. You must try it! For our mains, I ordered the mushroom risotto with filet and my wife the salmon. Both were excellent. The risotto was creamy with a lot butternut squash and oddly enough, not many mushrooms. But it was absolutely amazing. I added a piece of filet that was tender and flavorful. It complemented the dish beautifully. The salmon was as very good. The butter on top was simply amazing! We drank too much during the tailgate earlier, so we stuck to water. However, there a few flaming drinks leaving the bar that looked amazing! Divani is a great restaurant. That was the first impression of the place. We got there for a reservation and were seated at a high top 2 seater. We asked if we could get a regular table seeing a couple tables open. After the hostess checked, she did seat us to a regular table. Thank goodness as it was much more comfortable for the date night we were hoping, plus the place has a nice ambience where you wouldn't expect the place to have high top tables. Drinks were good, and there was fun theatrics with the Smokey fashioned my husband ordered. We ordered the charcuterie plate that was pretty good. The prosciutto that was presented tasted more like a thinly sliced ham, but the cheese and other items were tasty. We order the hamburger that was average according to my husband. I ordered the duck 3 ways and I'd say the duck confit and duck legs were the star of the dish along with the sauce. The duck breast did not have crispy skin, and I think could have been prepared a bit longer. The espresso machine wasn't working, so order a French press coffee instead that was good. My review is strictly from a wedding venue attendee experience. This was a beautiful space to hold a small wedding and reception. The brick walls are charming and the space is lovely. The dinner was fantastic as well. I had the steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. My steak was cooked perfectly and the green beans were soft and buttery without being overcooked. The bar service was great too! The servers were good and I really enjoyed the cocktails available. I stuck with the strawberry fields all night and it was great. McDonald's has better salads. Not funny joke. And I had to pay for it $12. Hamburger - I asked for medium rare twice. Not even one drop of juice from the meat. It was just pathetic. Really. Guys, go to any larger city and aks for medium rare burger. You'll see what I'm talking about. Everything tasted like from Sysco warehouse frozen food. Chicago dive bars have has much better food. My experience at Divani was amazing. Very cute vibe when we came it. We had a reservation so our table was ready with water when we arrived. The bar tender Marcus was AMAZING, the bar menu was super unique and Marcus even made me some custom drinks. I had calamari, Caesar salad and shrimp bisque. What a great spot! It was smaller than we expected so we were very glad we made reservations. It's such a vibe once you walk in, dim and moody, perfect place for a date night! The cocktails were the stars for us. Mark spoke to us as if we were buddies and asked what we liked to make drinks specifically for us. We had 2 curated cocktails each then shots and would do it again! The flavors and freshness of the cocktails were unlike any other place in Grand Rapids. We loved our entrees; the risotto and lasagne were both amazing however the calamari was just ok, it lacked flavor but the dipping marinara helped with the taste. We started our evening on the town with friends at Divani for a cozy dinner. The staff at Divani kicked off our night with a wonderful experience. The restaurant is bustling but we still could talk and enjoy conversation with our friends at a normal level which is a huge plus in today's dining scene. Michael took excellent care of us all night with a sense oof humor and wit that added to our evening as he helped us navigate the menu. The espresso martini according to my wife is the best in town. Other ccocktails were handcrafted by a trrue artisan behind the bar.. Up in smoke is served elegantly like a drink for royalty. Other pours come flaming tableside and make ordering a drink an experience. The filet was tender and cooked to order as well as the scallops which were amazing on their bed of squash and butter. The pistachio creme brulee was also a hit . Excellent wine list and Michael was ready with recommendations. An amazing dinner is all I have to say. We made a quick weekend trip to Grand Rapids to see Hamilton recently. Our tickets were for the matinee, which I prefer as I then can enjoy a nice leisurely dinner afterwards. I knew it would be tough finding a nice restaurant near DeVos with Hamilton in town, but we lucked out with using OpenTable to book a table for two at Divani. It was an easy walk through the skywalks from DeVos to VanAndel where we exited. We asked a ticket scalper who was trying to sell extra tickets to the hockey game to point us in the direction of Ionia St.. The restaurant basically sits behind the VanAndel Center. Walking in I knew immediately I made the best decision. Divani is in an old building beautifully restored and decorated. We were seated immediately, which I'm glad we made reservations as the couple ahead of us were told it would be 45 minutes before they could be seated. Our waiter was spot on. Our glasses of wine were brought out quickly and he was very knowledgeable on the menu. The menu is not large, but that is fine with me. I knew I wanted the Scottish Salmon the moment our waiter said it was the dinner special. I was in heaven with my first bite. D had their lasagna, which he said was delicious. I came in for a family dinner at Divani last night. Carlie, our waitress was extremely sharp and friendly. She did an excellent job remembering our orders and fulfilling special requests. The atmosphere is beautiful at Divani- an old furniture show room transformed into a lux and swanky restaurant. Antique columns and large velvet drapes set the scene. I was surprised that there was not bread service, the menu is somewhat limited but the options are broad and there seemed to be something for everyone. We started with Caesar salad- it was large enough to split and I requested that it be "not grilled" which was the typical preparation here. The salad was fresh but the dressing was slightly overpowered with garlic. If you like garlic- this salad will suit you! My mom had the lasagna- she really enjoyed the dish- composed of hand pulled cheese, fresh pasta and spicy sausage. The portion was also plentiful. I had a vegetarian pasta dish which the chef accommodated for me. I liked the various vegetables included, but the dish was again slightly overwhelmed with garlic flavor. We had "campfire martinis" for dessert. These drinks were delicious, I love how many items on the menu contain a "fire component" Carlie flamed our marshmallows table side! I loved the drinks and service at Divani and the atmosphere is perfect for date night. I will definitely be back to try some other menu items. read more

My favorite thing about Divani is the ambiance! If you're looking for a low key, quiet classy place, please check them out. The minute you walk in, you forget you're in GR, at least I did! I went with a few friends and I sampled : Bone Marrow- Served with toasted baguette and a salty, garlic/horse radish side that was a little overpowering for me. Maybe I over did it, but when I topped my bone marrow with it, well it punched me in the face. It wasn't a bad flavor, you just need to go easy. The bone marrow was rich and tasty. Lasagna- Huge portion! If you're not a heavy carb eater like moi, you can share this and easily feel satisfied. You'll enjoy the multiple layers of marinara & spicy sausage. It was very cheesy and very good. I stole a few bites from my friend, I had to control myself lol. Korean BBQ Ribs- Delicious! Perfectly executed flavors and textures here. The ribs were fall off the bone, rich and chard all at the same time. I especially enjoyed the play on textures/temperatures with this entree. The ribs are served hot, but then you have cold noodles and ginger....but then you have a warm, huge, slice of corn bread. The corn bread was buttery and crumbly. I enjoyed this very much. We also had a few cocktails. I had a glass of Argento Malbec ($9) and the Corpse Reviver ($12). Yes, both pricey but typical upscale price range, given the quality. The service was excellent. I think the owner may have been the one that seated us. She was very kind and attentive. My mother-in-law got the lasagna and thought it was excellent. My husband got the filet and the meat was perfectly cooked medium rare. It also came with asparagus and some sort of potatoes. The asparagus was delicious, but the potatoes were quite average, nothing really special. I ordered the risotto. It had good flavor, but I would've preferred it to have been salted more. The fries were more salty than the burger but just something to keep in mind if you want the burger. My boyfriend got the blackened Salmon and that was quite divine. The vegetables on the plate with it were spicy but very delicious. Presentation of the food was great. It came out and looked so good. My eyes ate more than my stomach could. Grilled Cesar salad good but meagerly dressed. Four entrees ordered: steak was good, mushroom risotto mushy & bland, lasagna dry, burger overcooked with provolone cheese that tasted moldy. Hadn't been here in a couple years and stopped in on a Monday afternoon for happy hour. So Monday isn't a great time to get a feel for the atmosphere of a place, there was no one else here at 4:15! But that's ok, gave me quality time to talk with the pleasant bartender Lindsey. This place is more upscale and pricey than surrounding bars but the happy hour offerings from 4-6 pm are well worth it for even the curious or person wanting to not spend a lot. Various plates of food for $5 as well as a decent assortment of cocktails also for $5, plus some $3 beers. I got the fries as one dish and the hummus and bread as another and both were well worth it! I want to go back just for those, and my two drinks were good too. Can't give a full dinner review but I'd recommend checking out if only for the happy hour. Update, first time here in quite a while. First started coming for Wine Classes they used to do. Taste wines for a fee and could buy apps. We really liked those. I don't think they do that anymore. That's too bad because it was really fun. Have been to a couple wine dinners there where they serve a multicourse meal with the wines from a particular winery paired to each course. The one featuring B.R. Cohn was outstanding. And we attended a Valentines dinner there one time that was a fixed price multicourse meal and it was outstanding as well. Now we just come for the great food to pair with wines from their great list. And they have a nice whiskey selection albeit a little on the pricey side. Their signature burger is just plain awesome as is their 6 oz fillet. And the wild mushroom risotto was very good. Four of us got the riisotto and shared it as a first course. Was perfect. They had a duck breast option on the menu that really tempted me as well Severs really care about taking care of you. My only knock on the place is that the menu has great things but it's fairly limited. I would like to see some specials of the night for variety and maybe an option for an 8 ounce filet in addition to the standard 6 ounce for people that want to little bigger chunk of that awesome fillet. Let me start by saying I'm not a wine guy. Our group went to Bar Divani on a recent Saturday evening while in town for our annual brewery fest and some in the group wanted a break and enjoy wine. The shrimp and grits dish was quite good-grits were more of a polenta mix of cheese and jalapeno, while the shrimp were grilled and the sauce was well-proportioned. The pieces of bacon throughout were the highlight-these were not bits; rather, were sliced pieces of thick glazed bacon. Their menu for food is not huge but everything the table had was well done, while my party said the wine choices were good and weren't too marked up, so there you go.
