We almost skipped Dixie Saloon after reading some rough reviews--but thankfully, we went, and the experience was incredible! The live music created such a lively and welcoming vibe, and the food? Absolutely next-level. Our group of four ordered jalapeño firecrackers, fried pickles, cheese bread, and deep dish pizza. Every single bite was packed with flavor. The jalapeño firecrackers were the star--so delicious that one order just wasn't enough. The beer was ice cold and tasty, the staff were friendly and attentive, and even the bathrooms were super clean. Forget the grumpy people leaving poor reviews--Dixie Saloon really impressed us. 0 star, servers are rude, specifically Kim who pushed passed us when going to deliver food and also pushed into the stephanie, body checking her because she was mad for no reason, acting like she's not in the service industry where customers come first. Stephanie was phenomenal and deserves a raise for what she's dealing with. Kim needs an attitude check for sure, or to be fired. The staff act as if they've never seen a party over 8 before, and are stressed out and when we ask some questions. Jeez. My boyfriend and I came here for lunch. We waited 15 minutes for a server. No water No silverware. Nothing. Server finally comes out. Still no water. Appetizer comes with no plates. Boyfriend ordered a fried chicken sandwich. He got chicken salad. My Mac and cheese was cold. Like it had been sitting in the window forever. When we asked for the fried chicken instead of chicken salad the waitress argued that he ordered the wrong thing. We asked for water and it never came. We had to stop another server and ask for it. The staff all were welcoming when we arrived. Our waiter Logan, he was very attentive and super respectful. Answered all my questions. Logan was patient and kind spoken. Very pricey food! We weren't wowed by the menu but we arrived in Mackinaw City around 9:00 PM and that was the only place open and serving food. Husband ordered the chicken tenders and it was standard chicken tenders with pretty good fries. He did get a stomachache after eating though. I got the garlic chicken sandwich and it was very garlicky and spicy, not great. If this is your only option maybe try a different dish. read more

Writing is all over the walls, $1 bills pasted and shoved in all crevasses, pretty significant cobwebs on the lights, and so cold everyone kept their jackets on! Ambiance was not my scene. As we were checking out the menu the hostess was seating an older couple who wanted to sit at a booth. She told them there was not a clean booth available- they asked if she could just wipe down a dirty booth and her response was - that's not my job .... Carolina beer cheese & brisket pizza and the whitefish sandwich are not worth the money - the best part of the whole meal was the hush puppies with warm ranch. $61 for the hush puppies, flat bread pizza, and fish sandwich and water...... have lived in northern Michigan for years and this was our first trip to the Dixie and it will likely be our last. read more

The service was excellent! The food was not worth the price. I ordered the Ultimate Fish and Chips, not sure how it was Ultimate. The fish was fresh the fries were fine and the breading was light, how I like it. However, it was on a bed of greens that had seem better days and they were supposed to be dressed with a citrus soy dressing...no dressing. The bartender set napkins down for our drinks, and I used mine to wipe up the bbq sauce and other debris from the patron who dined before me. Stop in on a motorcycle trip through the upper peninsula. The place was packed but we were seated right away. It had a nice vibe and they had a baseball game playing so we were able to enjoy that. The service was a little slow and we had to wait on drinks for a while as well as refills. Our food came out in a decent amount of time. My steak was a little over cooked but still flavorful. The beans were different from anything I have ever had but I really enjoyed them. Overall I thought the prices were decent for a touristy area. Ok good the good... our service was good... the restaurant was clean and fairly empty for being the end lunch . The bad the expensive prices and than an up charge of $4.25 for fries, a charge for onion, lettuce and tomato on a burger. The prices here are unreal. The burger lacked flavor, they forgot the pickle . There was a lot of cheese which helped . I doubt we will eat here again. The owner charges a 3% service fee which the server funds his taxes and retirement// huh... than why are the prices out of this world. The music playing is a nice touch not to loud. Dirty, and food prices have soared above the normal expectation for the rise in costs for everything. Fish was undercooked, raw and actually cold in center ( telling us it was frozen ) When asked if it was from the lake as read, waiter said it was " oh, yes I don't actually know but I'm sure it's of the highest quality ." How long have you worked here son? My husband asked have you seen fresh fish come in like I know other restaurants in Mackinaw do. He just looked at us and said he did not know. Restrooms were simply disgusting and this was AFTER waiting for the gentleman cleaning them to reopen them. Waiter was snapping at other waitress at terminal as we were seated in front of it. Just cocky, rude and when we asked where our drinks were he said the bar was busy. We have sat at the bar on both sides many times. By the time he brought us them, the ice was melted. The hostility towards other staff was not fun to see. Felt like we were on some version of a Hell's Kitchen show showing arrogant staff who changed their tone when only speaking to gain a tip. Do not understand the fees attached cash or card to bill. So he's guaranteed a tip I'm guessing ? Just realized with the hotel coupon that this is owned by same people we stayed in for hotel after island trip. Other side of restaurant the "Irish bar" is nothing like it was two years ago. It's loud music rap in fact, and we declined the large table in the corner to sit in the Dixie main dining area when the prices are this high and the food is subpar with a group of a size of eight. There were some dinners that were quite good however, one meal being way undercooked, portion size is small, bourbon steak bites for $22 that were literally cheap pieces of steak not even plated to look like it cost $22, you would think that if the service was good, some of this could be overlooked, but try not cussing to other staff less than 3 feet away from your customers, and then returning to the table with a smile. Waiter seemed not to be able to focus so we didn't even bring up hat the kids Mac and cheese, at 12 was a single serving from a dollar box of Kraft and dry, hard and we ended up sharing from our plates. Not sure what this guy was on, but it took us asking a lovely lady , Kady , I believe? to get us ketchup after asking three times from our waiter . After this we ate in Petoskey before heading home. I'm not sure why this place has such low ratings, we thought the food was some of the best we had in the city. We had a prime rib, carrots, with a potato and a Caesar salad. The waiter was nice, and I liked the interior of the place. My critiques are that one guy asked us to move our legs as he swept under our table, which I thought was strange because when I worked in food service, a customer got angry that I was sweeping somewhat close to their table because it kicked up dust, so I'm surprised that guy had no shame doing that under the table we were currently seated. They also forgot to add chicken to my salad but when I pointed that out, our waiter took it off the menu so that was nice. Overall great, just in the future, wait until the customers leave before sweeping underneath the booth so it doesn't stir up dust and debris. read more

Terrible food, even worse service. Was not busy at all and took maybe 30 minutes to get food which tasted like a frozen burger, was definitely not fresh. Mac n cheese was dumped in a small bowl with a pool of grease on the bottom. Waiter came to the table once to refill water but was definitely around when it was time for us to cash out. We came here during summer and our kids Loved it, ! So, when we had to stop for lunch in Mackinaw city on our way back home from the UP, they requested we ate there again. Lucky us, the place was one of the only one open at this time of the year ! Food was really good, our waiter was really nice and took great care of us, kids were happy to once again leave a note on the walls. Service was good, not outstanding...but definitely the best part of our experience. Prices were way too high, even for a tourist trap restaurant. We're fine with high prices if the meal is worth it, but this was far from worth it. Brisket was rubbery, kids Mack and cheese was nothing more than what I can buy in a box at the store, and the chicken strips were pretty standard (once again not what you'd expect for the price). My daughter and I split a flatbread and it was probably the only decent thing our family of 6 had. We gave this spot a shot because our kids thought the money and writing on the interior was cool...I'd agree, except for having to make sure we kept our drinks sitting in certain spots in order to hide inappropriate pictures and words from our kids wasn't enjoyable. While there to have some beers we ordered some appetizers to balance the booze and the cheese curds I'm pretty sure we're just frozen and heated per order. I've have fresh ones before and they're amazing- these were not. The sauces were served in pre-packages from 3rd parties so they don't make their own marinara sauce. That annoying. The pretzel bites were OK but again, frozen first. My feeling is that most food is not made there but purchased frozen and served up at high prices. It's directly next to the ferry port so great location but you're getting convenience at a high price with low quality. Others seem to enjoy themselves so I guess people don't care too much otherwise the restaurant might try to change for the better. We'll only return if drinking there is a last resort because you can get great local beer anywhere in town. read more
