Today I get a call to pick up a door order (~$2,500 so not insignificant). I call back to see how late I can come by. Phone call goes to cashier who rattles off welcome so that you can't understand a word he says - clearly making you feel rushed to get you off the phone. I ask how late I can pick up my door order. He says doors & windows are "closed" today. I tell him I just need to pick up - he transfers me to a line that doesn't get answered for 6-8 minutes, so I hangup and call back. This time he tells me no one is there nor the contractors desk and no one knows. I ask to speak to a Supervisor. A much more informed Supervisor gets on the phone, asks what happened and then looks up my order and says it's there ready for pick up. So I drive the 20 miles over and come in. Do the paperwork drill with Supervisor and told to go to the back to pick it up. I drive around back and for no less than 15 minutes am wandering around looking for someone to help me get my doors. No one. So I call the "help line" - asking the Supervisor if there's anyone back here? Eventually a swarm surfer dude shows up asking me "if I found it?". Really I'm supposed to know where it is? Another 10 minutes hunting around only to discover 3 of the 4 doors are there and no idea where the 4th is. So to summarize, I've now wasted an over an hour and a half and 3 gallons of gas after being told my order was ready for pickup only to realize that qualified Customer Service at Dixieline is as difficult to find as my door order. If you are in a leadership role at this Dixieline and reading this - you have got a LONG way to go to win back (or any) customers that have found alternative outlets as my experience seems to be very common at your location. read more

when we finally got the deadbeat tenant out of a rental property, we wound up spending an additional ten grand rehabbing the place (including four trips to the dump) so it would be fit for human habitation. the property manager's crew did most of the heavy lifting, but the wife unit was determined to flex her fix-it muscles and swap out the mailbox lock herself. since we were headed to Solana Beach to run errands anyway, she called DIXIELINE to confirm they had what she needed in stock. everything after the phone call (except that they did actually have what she needed) was downhill at breakneck speed. the people working the registers must be fireproof family -- anybody who gave a hoot about their business would never hire (and if they did NOT fire) employees that rude and unhelpful. brief word of advice: when you have to compete with companies in the same niche who give a damn about customer service, you can't survive with employees who don't. ps: the former tenant's mailbox was bursting at the seams. apparently, she could not afford to pay her rent, bills, drug dealer, AND the closest liquor store. she had her priorities, and the landlords, her credit cards, SDG&E, etc. just didn't make her list. read more

This review is for the door department. Don't waste your time, money or energy. Go somewhere else. We had them come out and measure and they measured all wrong. We received 3 doors that did not fit due to their measurement errors and the 2 other doors that did came damaged. We had to reorder(another 2 week wait) just to receive another door that was the wrong size. Now we are getting no response from the door team. The 2 doors that came damaged have not been replaced as they cancelled appointments twice at the time they were supposed to arrive at our home. We take time off work to be home. We are still waiting to hear back from management. We have had to pay our contractor more because the extra work they have and to do with these doors. No compensation from dixieline which honestly doesn't matter because we just want this fixed. read more

Where should I start, 45 days or so, I placed a fairly large order for interior doors for my house (20 8' Orepack doors), and we also ordered 2 patio doors and a 12' foldable door from Windor. My sales person stop all correspondence once she got and ran my CC. No one ever communicated that 3-of our doors were backordered. Several of the doors are damaged and did not come with the hardware we ordered. We need to install our outside doors to start on Stucco for the house, one of the patio doors is damaged. I am told that we would not get a replacement door for 4-weeks. I called Windor and they said the turnaround is 2-weeks. We ordered Bronze hinges for everything including the Windor. Dixieline managed to screw up the order, i have brushed stainless for hinges and the handle is a different color. Dixieline from management to the saleswoman could care less. They simply state that in construction there are always delays. In the meanwhile I am paying for a mortgage and rent as the house can't be completed until we get the outside doors installed. Stay away from these guys, I ordered my Milgard windows from HomeDepot, there was a mistake and they made good on it and got me the right ones within 1.5 week. I want to commend Xinyi Martin at Dixieline Solana Beach for her excellent customer service. She works in the door and window area and I needed a special order regarding an EMTEK lock. Even though this was a small and unusual order of less than $200 she was very helpful, always nice, and very professional. When the wrong parts were shipped from EMTEK she quickly got on top of the order with EMTEK and had them redo the order while Dixieline had to return the incorrect parts. When the revised order was delivered it was incomplete. Again she contacted EMTEK and had them send the missing parts which they did quickly. Went to the design center without an appointment and Julie helped us find lower kitchen cabinets to compliment the uppers we did not want to change in a rental. She was helpful and knowledgeable. Monya was assigned to come out and measure the kitchen. Immediately she started pushing that we should change out all the cabinets and the lighting also (which we told her we also did not want to do). She insisted it would not be significantly more money to do both upper and lower cabinets. We really wanted help picking a cabinet color that would compliment the oak cabinets above. She gave this minimal consideration and proffered choosing white, although my wife said she did not want to use white. We agreed to getting estimates both ways...since she repeatedly reassured us it wasn't going to be that much more. The estimates came back. To change all the cabinets it was triple the cost of doing just changing the lower ones! I contacted Monya to find out why. She said it was because of the larger pantry cabinet she included and some trim. Monya's failure to listen to what we wanted, combined with her obvious agenda and being grossly wrong on the costs killed the deal. read more

I needed some 2x4s to build a saw horse as I have to paint some doors and bought brackets to make a DIY saw horse. I usually go to Home Depot in Encinitas but figured I'd support the business right in my own town. From their flyers their prices seem competitive. I went into the Solana Beach Dixieline and asked where to order lumber and was told at the customer service desk. A long-dark-haired, zaftig woman with a very unfriendly face asked what I needed. I told her what I wanted but she didn't offer any information about cost. I finally asked and she said 2x4s were $.83 per linear foot but she didn't tell me what the 1x2 I ordered cost. She handed me paperwork and sent me around back to the lumber yard. I don't expect Suzy Sunshine when I go into a store, but it would be nice to have someone who smiles, chats, volunteers information and has a generally customer-centric attitude. This was not that person. It ended up costing a bit more than I expected. $83 per linear foot means $6.64 per 8 foot length of 2x4. When I got home I checked Home Depot and the same item is $3.35. I paid nearly double the Home Depot price for exactly the same thing, and got served some bad attitude and unfriendly interaction for the premium. Lesson learned. Next time I just go to Home Depot. I calculated my order, which cost almost $32 at Dixiline, would have cost about $16.22 at Home Depot in Encinitas (Encinitas has a 7.75% sales tax vs 8.75% in Solana Beach). Someone at Dixieline needs to fire some people and check their pricing. I won't be going back. PS - the young guy in the lumberyard who cut my 2x4s for me was helpful. If are ordering windows, doors or sliding doors, Dixieline will file a right to place a lien on your property despite having paid in full. They state this is a "best practice" which is only in their favor. I've ordered from other companies that do not do so. Combine this right to place a lien if there are any issues with their unwillingness to deliver to customer expectations. While I was sold on Western sliders being on a quality equivalent of Fleetwood, my sliding doors came engineered to cover the fasteners. On black frames, I was provided with silver fasteners. Dixieline and Western's solution was to get a permanent sharpie to color fasteners. Unreal spending over $10k only to be told to get a black pen and deal with an unfinished look despite the product being engineered to have covers. I ended up ordering Fleetwood covers that fit into the frames. I would never order from them again outside of a basic lumber run. Western windows, western doors, western sliding doors read more

I used to like Dixieline, but I will no longer shop there. I know their prices are always a little higher than everywhere else, but I liked the location. However, I just called to see if they price match items in their store against Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. The guy on the phone told me he'd been there 35 years and they've never matched anything. Not sure how that works.... Probably why they have such bad reviews, in part. In any case, 30 bags of topsoil will end up costing me $50 more than it would if I went to Lowe's.(!) Not sure how they can justify that but looks like I'll be taking all of my business to Lowe's from now on. read more

If you're going to Dixieline for quality and customer support, DON'T. You will get neither. We spent over $12,000 on windows and doors there and had nothing but trouble. Jeld-Wen doors warped. TM Cobb door warped. Wood clad windows warped. Screens stretched. Screens not delivered. Inadequate service men that could not define the problems even after several onsite visits. Absolute worst customer service I've ever had from start to finish. We thought we'd pay more to get better. What happened is we paid more and got screwed. Go to Pine Tree lumber for fast, efficient service and customer service that ACTUALLY believes The Customer is always Right. Sorry Dixieline. If you are expecting a huge place that has a million items, you might disregard this review. But knowing what this place is, you will find it a lifesaver if you are a "not-so-DIY" person like myself and you are forced to do something yourself. The prices may 10% more than you might pay at a larger store, but they absolutely earn that in the service they give. Everyone there is kind in directing you to the things you might need, and they are great at answering questions about the projects you are doing. Specifically (and I cannot emphasize how much this guy has helped me over the last 10 years), Bruce is the holder of knowledge about any project you might be undertaking. over the time I have bene a homeowner I have tried to fix things previously altered by the former owners and anytime the assistant has not had the answer, they have said, "let me get Bruce to help us." Now my wife and I just joke and ask if we need to visit Bruce when we cannot fix the home issue. He has helped us from issues with lighting repair and replacement (indoor and outdoor), plumbing issues with toilets and with faucets and leaks. He has not only gotten us home with the right products repeatedly, but given us guidance as to how to do the repair and given us warnings on the issues that might arise or fool us in our efforts. If you are looking for a little bit of guidance along with your home improvement product, Dixieline is the place to go for this and an highly recommend you start by asking for Bruce. I don't guarantee you a discount by referencing me, but I do guarantee you a good experience. He even has connections with good handymen in town when the project beyond my abilities (which is frequent as you may be recognizing.) I can honestly say that best 2 of the 5 stars I give this place belong exclusively to Bruce and I would not likely be a regular customer without him there. Thank you, Bruce. We did have a few issues with delays and deadlines not being met but I would blame that mostly on the pandemic more that any single person. Overall, I really like this store. But I was very disappointed with the quality of their plywood. Over the phone, I was told that although their computer did not store a grading for their plywood, the hardwood plywood was equivalent to an "A" on both sides. That means generally free of repairs and knots. In fact, the plywood they loaded onto my truck was somewhere between an A and a B on the best side, and at best a C on the worst side, with cracks, huge knots, and holes filled not with wood putty, but with white plaster. Better than Home Depot, for sure, but not by much. read more

Good luck with placing a special order here. We sat down with "Joe", ordered some doors for our house, he quickly charged our credit card, and said the doors would be in in two weeks. Great, easy enough. When the doors didn't come in 2 weeks, we asked when they'd arrive and he said probably in 2 weeks. Luckily we weren't in a rush. Another 2 weeks, no doors. When now Joe? Joe? What's that, you don't respond to our emails or calls now? OK we'll talk to someone else. Oh wait, we have to talk to Joe since he took our order, and even though you also work at Dixieline you are proud to tell us you know nothing about our order and can't help us? Alrighty then. After 6 weeks and many, many unanswered emails and calls, we finally get one door. But wait, we ordered 2? Oh you took the order wrong, and blame it on us? And there's no more doors in stock, and you have no idea when they'll be in stock, and suggest we cancel the order for the other door? We'll just wait another 6 weeks to get the other door. Bottom line, they don't care about you or your project. They are so busy, your little order doesn't matter. Don't shop here unless you enjoy a corporate culture that likes ignoring and gaslighting their customers. read more

I stopped into Dixleline Solana Beach on Thursday, 6-9-2022 around 4 PM. While there to pick up a hose mount for my outer garage wall, a very helpful employee (sorry, didn't get his name! Hopefully the date/time info will help...) took about 10 - 15 minutes of his time to help me find the right components for mounting the unit - anchors, lag bolts, washers, masonry drill bit... and pretty much gave me a step-by-step on how to do the installation. He even hipped me to the fact that when drilling holes in stucco, you want to put some caulking in the hole and around the outer edge of the anchor to make sure no water/moisture finds its way in. I am by no means a "master handyman," more along the lines of "once-in-a-while home fixit/upgrade project" guy. With the tutorial I was given, the job turned out lookin' pretty good. I was hoping to post a couple photos but don't see a way to do so... Anyway, very much "Thanks!" to Dixieline. I'll be back next time there's a project at hand. read more

I'm giving this place a 5 entirely down to all the help I've had from Bruce over the years. Many of my friends feel the same way about Bruce and If you don't know his name, he's likely the person who helped you find what you need/solved your problem for you when you were last there. This week I needed to replace a really old shower tap including the insert and when I asked two other employees for advice even they needed to ask Bruce for help. Over the years he's helped me with electrical, plumbing and lot's of other things I've had to take on as a homeowner. I've been the trades for a very long time, & I've witnessed Dixieline, go through some major transitional changes since when I began my relationship, dating back to late 1980's (when they were still a family owned/run business). Unfortunately, the Sports Arena location (which I did most of my business with for over 20+ years), I wouldn't include in this review....in fact, I would rather drive way out of my way, just to avoid the Sports Arena location, to get the level of professionalism I now receive at the Solana Beach location... With the above stated, this review (long overdue), is specifically being left for 2 of Dixieline stellar employee's, who have always given me, exceptional customer service: 1. Andy Clark Whenever I need to order custom pre-hung doors or have any type of door related inquiries, Andy, is my door go to guy! He's knowledgeable, & keeps both me, and my clients, in the loop, He informs me the very day, my special order's will be arriving. And, he's saved me on a couple of occasions, the embarrassment, of ordering the wrong swing on a door- that's how thorough, Andy is! I've also received, a couple of compliments from my clients, related to emails that Andy has sent with invoices/updates & and just his overall excellent level of customer service/professionalism. Simply put: Andy Clark, makes ME, look more professional! 2. Desiree (I don't know her last name- she's the yard Foreman/woman) In a male dominated industry, I think a lot of men (us older school guys), tend to feel that hard physical work, and a hard work ethic (2 completely different categories), are better left to the men.... Desiree, dispels this stereotype! She's is an absolute go getter, with her nose always to the grindstone. She's as hard working & professional, as anyone I've met in my 30+ construction career...& I'm a former veteran "Can Do," Seabee! These type of "hard work" ethics, are so rare to see anymore. I'm guessing, this young lady either has some amazing parents....or it's just an innate gift (drive to succeed) she was given? I'm just going to give one example of an impromptu spur of the moment interaction, involving Desiree: It was about 3 months ago, I had to drive down from the North County and pick up (3) 4x8 sheets of their smooth 1/4" hard board. I was being assisted in the drive through, by another employee. It started raining very hard, which prompted me to state, "there's no way I can drive out in the rain with this; the water will destroy the finish!" It was at this time, Desiree walked up and within a second, went over to a lumber load that was carefully wrapped with that Tyvek type material to protect it, & began unwrapping it....and I mean she was really HUSTLING!!! She then brought it over and we laid all 3 4x8 sheets down on this weather proof material and folded it in a way, that it was completely protected; then the 3 of us, proceeded to load all 3 sheets into the back of my Ford pickup! With all due respect, this chick, "kicks a$$!! The Solana Beach store, is lucky to have such committed, hard working, "lead by example," person like this, out in their yard, and reflects a commitment to excellence, by the management at this location! And a big "thank you" to all the guys (Dana is one of them) in the Contractor's office and the other guys working in the yard. And major props to Dixieline Lumber, for hiring some of our Veterans! I was really not impressed the way that they handled the 5,000$ order I placed. From communication to the delivery they did everything wrong. I am a contractor and they forced my customer to go in to pay. They charged me for lumber for the delivery and they didn't use it. They gave me no notice of the order being delivered in a timely manner. They give you 25-30 mins to get to the drop off location upon receiving some text message. I really really do not like how they do business at all. read more

Dont buy windows for your home or business here if you want customer support. We ordered windows for whole house almost 2 years ago. Windows were installed last year, installers were nice but left unflushed human waste in ALL my toliets(how hard to flush, come on guys) and broke one toliet without saying anything. They forgot one window and two screens which i still dont have installed after almost 2 years! They installed a garden window which leakes alot when it rains. I told them last winter and and they still havent fixed. In June a employee named Craig came to house and said he was going to see why window leaking. He has not come back and does not return my calls. These last rains caused a flood in my kitchen via Garden Window. Also when they installed Garden Window they took apart my house gutter and never put it back together. See pic below.
