Went to Dizzy Whizz today for a quick lunch during the workday. It was beautiful out, so my coworkers and I walked from the office, which is close by. When we walked up there was a line out the door-- as expected- it was about noon. The counter to order was immediately inside the door, which was a relief as so many people were spilling out. The only menu that seemed to be available was pinned to the wall near the cash register and was in teensy print. I ordered the first thing listed- the Whizz burger combo, which is a double burger with fries and a drink- built like a Big Mac with an extra layer of bread between the patties. I upgraded to onion rings for .25 more. When paying you are given a ticket with a number... be sure to hold on to it as that's how you get your food! It took about 10 minutes to get my food - which apparently is not the norm but a family before me had a huge order. The employee apologized repeatedly when he gave me my order. The staff was patient and friendly despite the attitudes of some of the customers. We took our food to-go but I must note there is a small dining counter and about 10 tables inside. Also a few picnic tables outside. When I got back to the office I couldn't wait to dig in. The burger was dressed with lettuce and tartar sauce. It was delicious. My onion rings were crispy and hardly greasy. And I was thankful that the employee put more than plenty ketchup packets in the bag. Where does that happen anymore?! The meal filled me up but wasn't too much food. Overall, my experience with DW was better than anticipated. It was a great change of pace from my norm of leftovers and The Golden Arches. Seriously? Where to start. SO many people have recommended this place and raved about it so I took my son today, finally. Walked out after ten minutes. TERRIBLE service. Really, no service. None. Zero. Was behind three other people who hadn't ordered. At first I thought they were waiting for food and after several minutes I asked. They hadn't even ordered or been greeted. People behind me getting ANTZY and others at tables waiting for food for who knows how long. This has been on my list for a while to visit! Got the bacon cheeseburger and fries, both were good! The restaurant is definitely old but that doesn't bothers me. I only gave two stars because the only open table was filthy and had a wet rag on it. We ended up clearing the table ourselves and washed the table down with the rag. A girl came by 3 times during our stay to clean other tables and didn't once offer to take the rag. I just pushed it to the side so another table wouldn't have to deal with the same thing. I grew up in Old Louisville and I've been coming here since I was a kid and absolutely NOTHING has changed, and its absolutely NOT a bad thing. We used to come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner (not on the same day, haha) and this time we visited for some lunch. The place is easy to spot, right on the corner of W Saint Catherine, and has ample off street parking. They offer drive in (or is it called curb side?) service, but we opted to sit inside. When you order you can either do it at the bar when you sit there or order at the front counter. There's a menu taped to the wall with all of their items on it. After you order you're given a number. Take a seat and your number will be called. Pick it up at the window and get ready for some num nums. During this visit I ordered The Whizz special, which comes with a Whizz burger, fries and a medium drink for 5.79. That's a pretty sweet deal to me. There is just something really special about that burger. They're built like a Big Mac, three pieces of bread, two patties, slice of cheese, special sauce, lettuce, pickles (I don't think it has onions), if its your first visit humor us and give it a try. The patties are thin, sure, but they're fresh and delicious and the sauce is just addicting. Its some kind of tartar sauce mix and is so tangy and just EEERRGGG I don' know! I find it more satisfying than a Thousand Island special sauce and I crave it constantly. Don't knock it till you try it, because after you do you'll realize why most people order two burgers. I've got to agree with a lot of other Yelpers, the fries are nothing special. Crinkle cut fries are my favorite, but these just don't hit the mark. They're usually overcooked and too thick, but the burger more than makes up for it. I'd also like to mention their ridiculous breakfast special: two eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy and a coffee or soda for 3.99, YES, 3.99! Its greasy, its filling and its perfect. This was a mistake for me to find. I have heard a lot of people recommending this place and was a little surprised when I arrived. There is a big neon sign and this is an actual drive-in if you want to eat in your car. Like some other reviews, you walk inside and do not feel like you are in the cleanest place, but a true diner never feels pristine. This place serves breakfast all day. I was recommended to go for a greasy burger and shake and that is exactly what we got. My boyfriend got the Dizzy Burger and I got a double bacon burger with a chocolate chip peanut butter shake. I think my exact words were "...this is pregnant woman craving good!" The food is greasy but I think has a lot of flavor. The place is a little greasy too, but is safe and has a lot of character. There is no counting calories and you should probably only go when you are having a bad day or drunk munchies. Unfortunately they stop serving at 11pm on weekends; let me rephrase, fortunately they stop serving at 11pm. In addition to the classic burger and shake the price is nothing. I love going in here because the food is good and my 77 year old dad loves telling me he came in here as a kid. The place is tiny, they are always packed, the food is inexpensive but pretty good. They put tartar sauce on the burgers, which is the only way a burger should be eaten, just saying. The fries are always good, they are the crinkle kind, not sure why that makes a difference since it's all the same potato in the end, but it's a thing for me. They have a combo meal where you get 5 items: a drink, burger, fries, coleslaw and a cup of ice cream for $7,95. Just make sure they know that is what you are ordering, the girl there offered it to us and then messed it up. However, since dad is on a first name basis there they did come out and fix it pretty quickly. They are nice to deal with, as well. The restroom is around back and you think you are going in the back door, which you kind of are, but its a quick right into a meh situation. Let's just say it has seen better days. Being so close to where i live is a definite plus! We walked over for breakfast and ended up taking it to go because they were so busy. I ordered an egg and cheese biscuit and some spicy fries. They were both exactly what i was in the mood to have. The biscuit was soft and tasty and the egg was actually a real fried egg! Way better than most fast food "eggs". The spicy fries were not real spicy, but nice and crunchy. I will enjoy breakfast here again. The prices are good. For my breakfast and a medium unsweet iced tea it was 5 and some change. I heard about this place from a recent Freakonomics podcast where a local lady tries 2 burgers a week for a year. She said Dizzy Whizz is her favorite. So we drive up and park outside with the plan to eat inside for more of authentic experience. There were 2 old ladies in wheel chairs to the side. One was coloring an adult coloring book from the movie "Cars" and the other was just scratching at the sores on her head with a Barbie blanket covering what I assume were bedsore ridden legs. One kid that walked in looked like a skinnier drugged addicted version of 1990s Vanilla Ice. Two others were in his retinue and all were in sweats. Super ghetto clientele is what I'm getting at here. We both order Whizzburgers - 2 for $5.77. They were fine. One of the slimmest patties I've seen (there were two). Plenty of mayo and some lettuce. We were hungry so they sufficed. Not terrible, but hard to believe they're the best in all of Louisville. To use the bathroom you actually have to leave the the building and walk around to the back to the area that looks like a trailer. It was ok. I would try somewhere else next time. read more

I was sketchy about what I already got I don't think I wanna order more . My kids and I were eating and minding our business and my son realises he asked for a plain burger and got a mouth full of tartar sauce (facepalm) . I finally convinced him to eat just the meat and he couldn't do it because his burger was dry . Then I realized my food was hot and theirs was cold . They must have put the kids food together first and then let it sit as they waited to throw mine together . About halfway thru the meal one of the staff members,who was apparently on break decided to blow her nose so loudly in the dining room that everyone in the restaurant heard her . I then threw up in my mouth threw our food away rounded my kids up and went to DQ! TOTAL WASTE OF 18$ I won't be visiting again . The only reason I decided to visit in the first place was because my father used to take me and my siblings as young kids to dizzy whizz for carhop service on skates . Just not the same at all . This is how fast food used to be. Hot off the grill and fresh. I had the super whizz and onion rings. Basically a big mac or a big boy except good. Two patties on a twice split bun, lettuce, pickles and tartar sauce. Whizz sauce sounds a little gross. I'm also glad they don't call this burger the big whizz. The onion rings are breaded not battered. My preference. They were crunchy and not at all greasy. A good deal for a little over $6. They have curb service and dine in. A classic. As soon as you walk in you know the food is gonna be great. If you were to look up "American Food" in the dictionary, a picture of this restaurant would appear. It's greasy. But not too greasy. The service is great as well. The servers and cooks were friendly and outgoing: always a good combo. Economically speaking, it's very affordable. For my Dad and me, $12 filled our stomachs. In my opinion, part of the reason it's cheap is the fact that there are no free refills. I really want to like this place, but I'm currently not a fan. I'm a nostalgic, retro kinda person and a place like this should have everything I like, but it falls short. The food is not that great. There is a lot of good, "greasy spoon" choices on the menu, but nothing I've had there has much flavor to it. Also, the place seems a little dirty. While my food may be properly prepared in sanitary conditions, I become doubtful when looking around the place while I wait for an order. It's not gross--it's more of a dirty atmosphere--if that makes any sense. We stopped in at the Dizzy Whizz after driving around (and around) downtown looking for a place to eat mid-day Saturday afternoon. From out of town and somewhat unfamiliar with dining downtown, we also didn't want to commit to a big meal since we were saving up for our reservation at Lilly's, later in the evening and wanted to consume all that is amazing there. So after deciding that a)parking was a joke most places, and b) we were really hungry and therefore starting to gripe at each other, the thrice circled Dizzy Whizz seemed like a great option. Like the other posters mentioned, counter service, car service or even sitdown service. I was surprised by the myriad of "additions" to the building from the original counter area. We picked two sparkly blue stools and had a seat. The counter waitress was by no means amazing, but she was nice enough and entertaining in her conversations with regulars about "so and so" ditching her to go to the fair when she was supposed to ride with them and a myriad of other conversational gems that we (and everyone else) were privvy to. Order: Dizzy Whiz burger, onion rings, chocolate shake and cheeseburger plain. Very happy with everything and would have eaten it all had we not made reservations at Lilly's. Agree with the other posters that while I'm all about retro and love an original business, the grill behind the counter, the stainless and especially the register could use a good cleaning, but I would go back in a heartbeat and maybe sit in my car :) read more

So...when I travel, I like to "try out" iconic type places in the cities I visit. When picking up our new little pup, Millie Rose, I was in Louisville and came across this place. It is an authentic drive in...which would be cool, because then Millie could stay with me while I ate. So...service was good...and it was cool to sit in the car, with the food on as try hung on the window...just nostalgic and fun! As for the burger...well, I got the Whizzburger (their specialty)...special sauce, lettuce, cheese with fries. Well...nothing to scream about...it was all good and solid...but...I have had much better. The fries were ok (even with Millie Rose stealing one!)...but...again...nothing spectacular.
