I'm not from Louisville, but when I moved here I immediately heard about Dizzy Whizz. It's a Louisville staple, and people love it. So, as someone who loves to support local, and wants to try everything, this spot immediately went on my list. And then it stayed there. Unfortunately, I just didn't make it to this spot for a really long time. But, finally, that changed! B and I took a bike ride one nice day and decided to stop for lunch at this spot. I'm so glad we did, because it was great! It's really no frills, because it's an old school diner-type burger spot, so don't go in expecting some place really nice. But, the food is really tasty, and really reasonably priced. We opted for burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes. Everything was prepared to order, so it was all hot and fresh. Everything really tasty, and we were glad we were on our bikes so we could work off some of that greasy goodness when we had finished. We sat outside, though there's plenty of seating inside as well. But, we enjoyed sitting outside at a picnic table, near the drive-up for curbside service, which they always offer. If you're looking for a fun Louisville spot to check out, I definitely recommend trying Dizzy Whizz! read more

This is an establishment that everyone should visit. It is really eye-conic for the Louisville area. It opened it's doors in 1948. Yes it is considered a dive. But only in the best way possible. I had not eaten there in many years. However, from the first bite until the last bite it was just as good as ii remember. The food is super reasonable. They also have a special sauce they put on their hand burgers. I could not go there without ordering the chili. It was always tasty and hardy. Good prices for what you get. Paid $7 for 2 Double Cheeseburgers & although they FREQUENTLY, I mean VERY frequently, miss adding condiments / toppings that you request, it's still a good "fast food" burger at a fair price. Wendy's is better in my opinion but if you want a cheap burger that is better than McDonalds quality, come here. FOR EXAMPLE: I asked for pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato, ketchup & mustard on my burger. BUT -- I only ended up receiving lettuce, mustard, pickles .... No onions, ketchup or tomatoes. Went back ordering the exact same burger & THIS time got ketchup&mustard, onions and pickles .... I'm coming into town and I wanna eat something quick but I don't want to traditional fast food. So I look for something local I'm hands-free driving and I can't use my lovely yelp app so I have to use Google. This place was recommended so we went that direction. I would actually give it more of a 3 to 3 1/2 stars. But I'm feeling froggy tonight. I highly recommend you stop by this place and support this local establishment. This place is a piece of history. One of our local places that is must try. First you must have cash! They have an ATM located right outside the building, if you need it. There are about 5-7 tables inside and about 4-6 picnic tables outside. The space is super small. They have curb side or counter service. The whizzburger combo is their biggest seller and that's what I order when I go. This my second time here. It was great in a Monday afternoon to take my 7 year old. Burgers, a pretty day to eat outside and throw homework in! What's better?! :) Whizzburger is a double patty with their special sauce and shredded lettuce. Traditional crinkle cut fries. And combo comes with a drink. For $5.99. They also have soft serve ice cream, which my little guy had to have before we left. Not sure how it is during the evening, but early afternoon was great! I looked forward to experiencing for the first time this place. I asked for a fish platter, a shrimp platter, a sirloin platter. After a good wait, the food arrived and I headed home without realizing my fish platter was missing. I returned to the establishment and this time had to go inside rather than service coming to the car. When I asked about the missing fish platter, I was informed that it was in the brown paper bag. I returned to my car and looked into one of the paperbags of which I thought was only condiments. To my surprise I found a fish patty, on 2 pieces of plain bread underneath all the salt, pepper, and A1 sauce. Not worth the energy or time it took to get it or come back. The menu is posted right by the cash registers and there are multiple options to choose from. Overall, I was not impressed at how small the burger patties in the whizz double decker burger were. My onions rings were good; furthermore I also ordered a cup of chili. For starters , there was more onion in it than I knew what to do with and the cheese they added had a weird taste. Went here to get lunch real quick while at work. Haven't been to this place in YEARS! The people are friendly. It's always been an odd looking place, I guess because it is old... My major issue with this place is, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FLYS?!?!? While waiting I swear I dodged so many flies I thought I was in the matrix! Sheesh! It leaves you to wonder how clean the place is. My favorite place my whole life except today changed that. Had a call in order and paid for the platter to get two sides but I was only allowed fries and slaw ( their choice). I opened the bag and food was wrong so I called to tell them I was bringing food back for correction and was told let manager know I was here. The workers ignored me and sent me to the curb to find the manager so here I am 20 minutes later still waiting for my fish sandwich to be made, while my burgers and fries get cold. Still didn't get all the extras I paid more. I won't be driving from Lexington to get this again. The WhizzBurger that is known by locals! Located in a one-way area where parking is limited and tight. I'm no stranger to trails, but was not expecting bumpy road in the parking lot. My first time here because it reminded me of a neighborhood burger spot I enjoy going to back home that has taste down just not maintained building. This is place is no different but is still operating of the go-to. This is a CASH ONLY establishment, but don't fret because they have an ATM in front of the building! They state car service, but I received none because I might of been parked in the wrong area for it. Nonetheless, I walked inside to order and was surprised their money consisted of to-go brochures stapled on the wall (this place was really hood, so I was hyping myself up on the taste already). I orders the super whizz combo and went to sit. If this is your first time, they have an ordering area and a pickup area, don't pickup your food at the ordering area. Also, they have a diner seating area in the back for the breakfast ordering vibe to it. The coke was on point see reference photo. The SuperWhizz was just an upgrade on the Big Mac, it was good but not great. The service was slow and tables were mildly dirty. Overall 3 stars because this is the hood burger joint. They're cash only, which seems like a bummer, but there's an ATM outside the main door. It's a little hidden from the street view, but I promise it's there. You can go here and be accepted just the way you are. Think Billy Joel in the 1970s. There are all walks of life in here. If you're at your worst or your best, it doesn't even matter because they've seen it all. After a long day I've come here looking disheveled, beaten down, and at wits end with the world. But, when I walk in and look around at the atmosphere and the clientele, I suddenly feel like a million bucks. There's a cool vibe inside. It's better than therapy. Dizzy Whizz lives up to the hype!! Such a perfect little greasy spoon! After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to eat there due to timing we finally were able to stop by. We went in with full intentions of getting a banana split and a milkshake but left with something completely different. As a staple in Louisville the building is definitely older but the outside appearance should not deter you from stopping by. As soon as we walked in we found a place to sit at the counter, old school diner counter feel. The lady waiting on us was so friendly, helpful and completely down to earth and made us feel at home. We wanted a banana split and a milkshake but the ice cream machine was down for cleaning (after 6 on Sunday). We were a little disappointed but the frozen chocolate dipped bananas made up for it! So yummy! While enjoying our bananas we decided to get 2 of their signature burgers to go for later. 2 double burgers for a little over $5. Needless to say only 1 burger made it till later.. lol. Pulling up to Dizzy Whizz it was clear this was a Louisville institution worth visiting. We stopped by on a recent Saturday and the place was hopping. The breakfast counter was standing room only and the burger counter already had a small lunch line at 11:30. Don't let this scare you. There basically was no wait to order our burgers and service was fast & friendly. Of course, my son and I ordered the Whizz Burgers and they did not disappoint. Good burgers and plenty of thick-cut fries. Dizzy Whizz is just over a mile from the University of Louisville campus (where we were heading). After a couple of years of seeing the billboard on I65 advertising the famous "Whizzburger," it was with both curiosity and trepidation that I pulled up to the small restaurant on St. Catherines and got ready to indulge in some Dizzy Whizz. I had to know who had the audacity to call something a "Whizzburger" and think that it sounded appetizing. I was expecting a greasy spoon and that is exactly what I got. First, everyone was really friendly. Those ladies were hustling behind the counter, at the grill and in front of the fryers, but never let that rush make the customers feel rushed. The ordering window inside was pretty cramped and there didn't seem to be a good way to queue, but everyone got taken care of. Pickup had the same problem as there were two windows that seemed to handle that job but if you listen for your number, everything will be OK. There's a small bar with stools in the back that let you converse with the grill cook. The main menu listings are here which further confused the ordering process, but I knew I was going to get a Whizzburger and a Coke. I should have gotten fries as well because the price was nearly identical. When my food arrived, I was a little disappointed. I pulled back the bun and saw fairly small meat patties along with toppings and sauces. I was expecting more. But when I bit into it, I was really impressed. It tasted great! Tasty. Odd. I have been here three times now and I can't say that I love it, everyone else does but perhaps I'm ordering it wrong. Mainly, my problem is the rudeness of the people who worked there. I tried it several times because everyone else loves it but it's amazing how an unfriendly worker in a place can make a meal entirely ordinary. Atmosphere: character oozing out of the paneling and additions onto additions of the building. Greasy spoon defines the kitchen. The dining room has three distinct sections: Boxcar bar, dining room, sun-room. Choose carefully. Food: We ordered the whizzburger to get the full experience. For $2.89 at a longtime local place, I was pleased. The whizzburger is a double cheeseburger with bread in the middle, whizz sauce, lettuce, and cheese. Next time, I will try the Dizzonator, which the cook described as "a heart attack", and apparently has 4 patties of meat. The breakfast menu includes a $4.91 "Big Whizzy Special" that includes 3 eggs, any style 4 bacon or 3 sausage, grits or has browns, toast and jelly. DEAL. Tip: the parking lot may be surprisingly full, and not at all reflective of how many people are inside. I've been driving past Dizzy Whizz for a while, and have been curious. It is an old-school drive-in, clearly a local institution, and always has intriguing specials at ridiculously low prices on the board out front. It's the kind of place that will either be a wonderful discovery or just awful. There's nothing fancy about Dizzy Whizz . There is curb service, outdoor seating, and a small dining room. The whole place has the appearance of having been here forever. It looks like it has been expanded a few times over the years. I ordered a bacon double cheeseburger basket, and after inquiring about the iced tea (fresh brewed), a large one. My burger was fantastic! There was bacon and cheese layered on top of each patty, which took the cheesy bacon-y goodness to a level I have rarely experienced. The burger was accompanied by a cup of coleslaw (ordinary, but a nice touch) and some crinkle-cut fries. The iced tea was fresh, delicious, and in a huge cup. The only negative for me was the fries. They had clearly been cooked a while before. They weren't hot, and their texture had changed to that stale French fry texture. (When you were a kid, did you ever eat an old French fry you found in the crack of a seat in the family car? These were something like that.) I have heard a lot about Dizzy Whizz from my friends and while I was on my staycation it was time to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. As a virgin to Dizzy Whizz I had to try the Whiz burger and I went ahead and upgraded that to the combo. Which for less than $6 you can't beat it! That's pretty cheap lunch/dinner/breakfast no matter how you slice it. We visited for late lunch actually. We had been up all night cleaning for our Halloween party and made our way here around 5 p.m. for a quick bite. The whiz burger was very much like a Big Mac from Mickey D's, even as I was looking the waitress told me that it was similar, but I knew that's what I wanted so I got it. It's very quick to come out and the burger and fries were piping hot. (which just means they are 100% ready to be doused in Ketchup and devoured!) It was very very good food! The servers were very friendly. We walked in and while we were glancing at the menu they were chatting with us about what they liked (which I love when the employees give me their opinion on the food, especially if I have never been there!). During the (short) wait for our food to come out we chatted with the lady who was eating her (dinner break I'm assuming) about what we were doing for Halloween and her plans, which she said she had to work but she enjoyed seeing the costumes that come in each year. As we were leaving she happened to be outside and wished us a Happy Halloween, which I thought was a cherry on top of a great meal and great service. That extra really made the taste in my mouth for Dizzy Whizz even better! This place is super close to my house and it's hella cheap! One day when I am in the mood for some breakfast I am coming back in a heartbeat! There was a second location on Broadway for years and years but, alas, progress drove them away. The burgers have gotten progressively smaller over the years. The prices have gone up.
