DMV Customer Service Feedback I recently visited the DMV with my son for his learner's permit test and was assisted by Sara at Window 10. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the customer service we received. When we approached the window, there was no greeting or acknowledgment. I provided the requested documents, and they were returned to me while I was asked for my son's identification and proof that he had completed the required online driver education course. I also asked whether documentation showing that I have sole custody of my son was needed, and I was told that it was not necessary. While I understand that DMV staff handle many customers throughout the day, I believe every customer should be treated with professionalism, courtesy, and clear communication. The interaction felt very impersonal, and there was little communication or assistance throughout the process. I hope this feedback can be used as an opportunity to improve the customer service experience for families visiting the DMV. read more

This review reflects two transactions within a week apart. Last week I brought my daughter to get her ID- we had no appointment so we showed up at 7:40am the line was already long; once we made it inside we were given a number, the wait was about 30-40 min. My daughter had already completed an online application so it was just the final steps of finalizing the application and take finger print and picture. Once our number was called a we received helped from one of the clerks (the lady that helped us was really friendly and helpful) once she helped finalize processing the application, we were directed to the camera area. An additional 20 min from finalizing application and taking the picture. Now my daughter just has a wait for her ID. My second visit was today for me to renew my DL. I did my application online and paid my fee online as well, I did make an appointment for finalize the process. My apt was at 10:20am, I arrived at 10:10am- the day before I received a text reminder with a link to check in 10 min prior to the appointment (you do have to be on site for this) as it required access to your location. I then waited for about 20 min and my number was called. The gentleman that helped me for my application confirmation code, then ask me to review my information, took my finger print and then send me over to take a picture. There was no wait at the camera area I only had to wait for a temp printout. Aside from that I was done by 10:50am. I think this has been the quickest DMV transaction ever! I do have to point out that this office is a bit small, so seating area is very limited; so you will see a lot of people standing around. Roughest DMV location I've been. If the is an unfortunate scenario that I have to go to a DMV office, I usually go to Concord or even better, Walnut Creek. This time around, I was helping my parents with their appointment and it was in Pittsburg DMV. Pittsburg DMV is cramped and easily overcrowded. Their is not enough seats inside so we were standing of a considerable amount of time. Even with the appointment, we at least still waited for about 45 mins. Special circumstances needed my father's test to be corrected manually, so we waited at least another hour for that. I showed up to my scheduled appointment and waited until my number was called. I need to first mention that the people who check you in were helpful. Especially, the Spanish speaking women :) I arrived to window #1 and was met with what seemed like a disgruntled employee as observed by her blank stare. She just looked at me without saying a word. Prior to that it seemed as though she was on a pleasant call and ended the call abruptly. After an awkward pause, she finally asks me, how she could help me. I explained that I was at the dmv office to get my real id, I had made my application online, and had my confirmation number in hand for the application. She REFUSED taking my confirmation number! She claimed that I needed to bring the hard copy application which is absolutely not true. She was also telling me what required documents she would not take without me explaining it first. I had to go back home and print out the application and make a second trip to the dmv office, wait in line again for the following dmv employee to tell me that she just needed the confirmation number of my application. I came to the window and had great service , I keep all my documents in my folder but I wasn't 100% prepared and ready to show her what info sufficed. Today Thursday June 4th my brother had an appointment at 8:40am for his behind the wheel test . The appointment had been scheduled for a while now . He got there almost an hour before to be ready and all set to go . They gave him the excuse that on Thursdays they only take behind the wheel test for people that wear glasses only at this dmv . I looked everywhere for a rule about that or anything I didn't find anything and why else would the online application for an appointment would let him book the appointment if that's the case . I didn't get the guys name that stated this but he was a Hispanic guy . We both in our mid 70's and had to sit there for hours surrounded by a mix of scary looking characters, tweekers and indescribable surroundings. At 4 hrs their system went down ! The clerk is doing the job at this location are being forced to do two jobs instead of one. I was there this morning for a 1040 appointment and there was one clerk, taking care of the appointment and non-appointment lines.. Non appointments were being taken before those with appointments. I stood in the picture line for 35 minutes while that person had to do two jobs. She was taking care of people that had tests to be corrected and taking pictures. I asked to see the manager and the person never showed up. I was told I could wait, but they didn't know when she would be available. I told them I would write a letter to DMV leadership and the governor. California gets plenty of tax dollars from us. They need to hire more people for this DMV location. It was filled with people waiting to be served. These DMV workers are very proficient at their job. Instead of getting rewarded, they get extra work to do. Not good. read more

I had to go in-person to the Pittsburg, Ca. DMV to renew my license because I needed a vision exam, thumbprint and photo. I went online to complete preliminary information. While online, I saw something from Yelp and took a look at the Pittsburg, Ca DMV. Yikes! Most reviews were cringe-worthy and made rethink my choice of office. Instead I toughed it out and showed up bright and early for 8am opening on a Thursday. I did NOT have an appointment and expected to be there all day. At 7:55am, the front door was already open so I stepped inside. Wow, clearly some major changes had been made to this DMV! I saw a well-lit, spacious, organized and well-staffed unit. On my right there were 14 teller-like windows with waiting staff. There were already 10 or so folks in the waiting area, looking comfortable. To the left of the front door, was a short queue with a seated screener. She asked specifically what service I needed, and looked up my completed forms online. She asked for my cell phone number, instantly texted me my wait number in the line, then motioned me to the waiting area. At 8am, a very large screen visible to the waiting area began to display the first 14 customer numbers. Both appointment & non-appointment were served. I waited no more than 20 minutes when my number came up for station #14. As I walked past other stations, I noticed each one had a computer, vision test & thumbprint capabilities. My station additionally had a camera. The staff person who helped me was relaxed, kind and helpful. It took about 10 minutes to complete everything including photo. What can you say about the DMV other than clear your schedule cause you finna be there for a while . We went there at about 2pm for registration because online wasn't accepting my info and told me I had to call in or walk in. I called but of course the automated system kept hanging up on me... anyway, getting a ticket number took bout 20min but the workers are really nice and pleasant to speak to. Then the wait began... dunnn dunnnn dunnnn . They have an intercom outside that calls out numbers so because the lobby was extremely full with folks sitting in all the seats, standing around the entire back area where the counter space is. It was about 5:15pm when BOOM, OUR LOTTO NUMBER WAS CALLED not lotto numbers but it feels like it . We get to the doors, THEY'RE CLOSED AND LOCKED!!! WHAAAAT THE!! We knocked and skinny tall security came to the door talking now "sorry, you have to be INSIDE the doors before 5p. Even if they call your number, I can't let you in" ... like WTF? NO WARNING ‼ NO ANNOUNCEMENT ‼ like, why didn't security who by the way yall need to give dude a shirt that fits.... Why he look like he wearing pawpaw's security shirt knowing he finna be working with to the public LOL! Anyway, I'm unsure if the dmv doesn't allow him to make an announcement or he just likes to tell everyone no sorry, gotta be inside before 5p. We went again the next week and went early.. waited outside again because the lobby was crazy full. Good thing we knew to be INSIDE BEFORE 5p this time. Made an appointment months in advance to renew my DL, had to take a vision test and a new photo. They gave me a temporary DL, as my expiration date was coming up I still haven't received my DL. So when I called the number provided to check my status, I was told that my paperwork was never processed by the agent and I have to go back to the dmv. DMV Pittsburg field office is well organized. Our experience today (10/20/25) without appointment was exceptional; of course, we arrived one hour before the office opened; we were second in line. At about 15 minutes before opening, a DMV representative unlocked the office door and came out to greet us and briefly explained various processes. Update while COVID: if you don't have to go to DMV try your best not to. If you can do it online please do so. I waited in line for an hour just to get a number. Then another 3 hours to actually get inside and get help. The reason why I went to DMV is because they did not have a customer service phone line that can answer my questions. And I couldn't do what I needed on line. Recommendation: if the lines are so long they should at least have one line for just questions. Put someone there who is knowledgeable of DMV questions. Because some people might just have questions and my not need to be there. It can prevent the lines. When I got in. At least the person helping me answered my questions. But it was a four hour wait. Ok, I know that the going belief is that DMV stinks. I always assume that also so when we had to go because my husband had to re-take his written and driving test, we were concerned. We made an appointment and off we went. Well, the DMV is so pleasant in Pittsburg! We went on March 29 at 8 am. The woman at the driving test section was so nice and helpful. After finishing and passing the test, my husband got behind the wheel with Julian. Julian was super chill and kind and my husband felt calm and passed his test! The entire process was seamless and it really never got super crowded there. People were pleasant and I hope when we have to go back next week to get his Real ID that the experience is also pleasant! read more

DMV but I went the only birth certificate I've ever used in five jobs that do background checks background checks. Deep background checks are the ones with your feet prints. OK that's all I've ever used by the way that's how people got inside the army good enough for them good enough for me at five extremely high security jobs. Guess what DMV is taking it now I go in. I take my test not only do I fail my test I go up and they want to do my eye test anyway get that done and I give him my paperwork. Oh no, we can't accept this. This isn't your birth certificate. It's the only birth certificate I have ever known when I was given this birth certificate by my mother. We didn't run around school and go let me see your birth certificate. My older sister says isn't it common sense what a birth certificate looks like it has to be embossed, no, it's not common sense. we didn't run around showing our birth certificates. My mom didn't give me anything different so I had to go to Marin County to get my birth certificate and behold at the age of 66. We find out my mother and father never signed my name on my birth certificate so guess what the lady at DMV said just give me a note that says you were in Murray County we did didn't work supervisor wouldn't accept it so I had to fill out all these forms get it notarized pay $45 plus $29 for the birth certificate to come back to me five months later six months later I get everything sent back to me saying it was filled out wrong and I forgot a form that was never given to me by the vital records people in Marine County today I spent 45 minutes on the phone with vital records telling me how to fill it out whatever you read that it says to do is not what it says to do you don't even do what it says to do you do the opposite of what it says to do if it says sign here it doesn't mean you it means someone else means your sister. It means not you what it says you and your sister when it says your sister, it means you what the hell what a fucked up country because my parents didn't put my name there where it says my name and leave it blank go down eight lines then put your name who would figure that shit out. Now let's go to Social Security because I don't have a drivers license now they won't talk to me. I can't talk to you. You don't have any ID. I don't have a bank account because my bank account got hacked. Wells Fargo shut it down but I get direct deposit for my Social Security disability. Guess what they will let that come through to them one time they will give me cash. I can't get a bank account because I don't have any California ID. I can't get any California ID because now I have to wait for more months to see if they can rush through my documents and get me my birth certificate so I can take the test again and pass and get an ID or drivers license and bank account. Meanwhile, I will get no money from Social Security for four months. I have to move and guess what I can't move anywhere cause I have no money I will be living out of my car with three cats for the next four months thank you DMV for promising me nothing read more

This DMV is the absolute worst, and I wouldn't be surprised if it got shut down. It's a disaster from start to finish. After waiting for TWO HOURS, I finally got called to the registration line, only for the woman helping me to rudely switch back and forth between me and another customer. She clearly didn't care about my time or providing proper service. Then we get sent to window 11, where the Indian guy spent maybe 30 seconds talking to us before rudely rejecting one of our documents, calling it "junk." Are you kidding me? I explained that the exact same document had been accepted at another DMV, and he had the nerve to say, "That's them, but I'm not going to accept it." What kind of attitude is that? Then he asked for some document with an MRN number like it's a hospital visit. Who even asks for that at a DMV? Avoid this guy at all costs. In fact, avoid this DMV altogether. It's a complete mess--disorganized, unprofessional, and just a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and go to Concord or Fairfield instead. Most of DMV services can be offered online, however, I was ineligible so I had to physically come and do corrections and update my driver's license. I had already pre-filled paperwork online where I had to scan required files. I was then given a confirmation number. I got instructions to bring the original files that I have submitted and take note of the confirmation number to show when I get to the field office. I came at around 12:20PM, I was thinking I had to wait longer since it might be the employees' lunch break, but they were taking in people. When I got there they took my temperature, asked for the confirmation number, jotted my name and gave me number. I was then sent back outside to wait for my number to be called. It only took 5 minutes, then a helpful lady, was able to assist me with everything I needed. I had a last minute payment for my vehicle registration and she was able to help me with that, as well. They had to take my pic and I was out of there in a jiffy! It was organized and efficient! All staff were wearing their masks properly. Hand sanitizer are available and accessible. The exit is at the far end of the building so we were able to maintain social distancing. Also, they have a great song playlist! Best thing to do if you have business here is make an appointment. Walk-ins may end up with you waiting for hours to be seen. Making an appointment with get you in/out faster. Review #225 - 2019 My son had an appointment for his driving test on Friday, August 23rd, at 1:40 PM & we showed up extra early. He went in at 1 PM to see if there was a line & was told to come back in at 1:25 PM since there weren't too many people waiting to take their driving test. When it was his turn, he was turned down because his driving school forgot to send him the certification of completion so we pretty much wasted all that time waiting for nothing. He even missed half a day of school for this. The girl didn't even bother to reschedule him when he asked her for a new appointment date. She just kept telling him not to come back until he had his paper. What the hell! So, since my niece lives nearby, she informed us that you can actually do a walk in before 4:30 PM so we decided to make the drive back out on Tuesday, August 27th, around 2 PM. When we got to the front of the line, we were told that they do not accept walk ins for driving tests. Another waste of time. At least the lady who helped us today offered to reschedule us so that's why I gave a 2-star review instead of 1-star. I went to take my renewal drivers written test. I went on line prior to taking the test and took several practices test. None of the questions I studied were on the test. In spite of everything I did to prepare myself for the test I still was not able to pass. I was told that because I didn't pass after three tries I had to go through the entire process again. Which meant paying the price again, taking photos and eye test. I was told I would have to repeat this process until I passed. The questions on the test were so similar that any one could be the right answer. I feel this is just another way of ripping the public off. Several people I spoke with agreed with me. I think that the practice test should correspond with the written tests. read more

Do not take your drivers test here if you are a woman of color. I just took my test and was met with hostility and rude remarks from the instructor. I forgot his name but he was an older white male with white hair. He tried to make me make an illegal u turn and make a left turn in over a solid white line. He told me I was refusing when I told him I needed to make a u turn and he told me I was making things up. Then when I saw that there was a no u turn sign he told me I was making things up again. He got pissed off when I corrected him, and instructed me to drive further so that he could find a reason to fail me which he did. For "not looking over my shoulder" which he marked as a "critical error". He also marked multiple boxes on my paper which were lies. Do not come here. read more

I honestly had a great experience at DMV this past week! I was not expecting that at all! I had made an appointment months ago to get my new drivers license you'll need to fly domestically or use your passport. My appointment was for 10:00 , I got there around 9:30 expecting a line out the door. Much to my surprise, there was no line! Just three people in the appointment line! I was pleasantly greeted by the clerk checking people in and making sure you had the right paperwork you will need for your appointment! I had everything I needed and was directed to wait for my number and letter to be called. I was F8 and they were on F4! It wasn't but 5-10 min. till I was called up! I was again greeted warmly by the clerk that would check the necessary papers I needed to complete my application for my new license! I was in and out of there in approximately 30min! Dear MT : today Dec 5th, 22 @9:00am, I received a devastating phone call from the family I just met Sunday, selling a car, to a very sweet family. Their son told me that they had the meanest person helping them and made a rude comment.. : "It's people like you, that don't want to learn"... Do NOT let this miserable clown talk to you this way!
