I Would Drive 5 Hours for Dana! I literally drive 5 hours to get my hair done by Dana because she's THAT GOOD! I've been going to her for over 14 years. I was a first time customer this month. I was excited to find a stylist with a great social media presence in my own neighborhood, Lincoln Square. Her studio felt cozy and inviting upon arrival. She asked me MANY detailed questions about how I liked my hair and blew my mind with "hair geometry." She has so many great stories and is such a great listener, our time together flew by! I felt absolutely gorgeous from the cut and 3/4 balayage, but after a few days started to have an identity crisis. After growing virgin dark blond hair during the pandemic months I started to feel too blond. I text Dana asking for a toner to which she she immediately replied with a few recommendations. She was able to get me back in the seat a few days and had the same awesome vibe and atmosphere, no shame here if you need a quick change or alteration! I don't know why it has taken me three years to write a review, but here we are. I first went to Dana in early 2020, before COVID shut everything down. I was thrilled with my first visit - Dana was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions, which is helpful for those of us who want something a little different than what we have, but don't know specifically what we're looking for. I left the salon loving my cut and color. Prior to 2020, I had been going to the same stylist in Lakeview for about 12 years, but she kept doing the same thing, seemed bored with her job, and I hadn't been particularly happy with my hair for quite some time; still, I kept going to her because I didn't know where else to go. I ended up going to Dana primarily because my previous stylist moved to a salon that was not geographically convenient, and Dana was right there in my neighborhood. After that very first visit, I knew I'd found my new stylist. She makes great style recommendations while also listening to what YOU want, and she seems to really enjoy her work. She also will show you how to style your hair at home so you can always have that "just-left-the-salon" look. When COVID struck in full force in March 2020, I, like pretty much everyone else, was unable to to get in for an appointment for months, as Dana had to temporarily close her doors. She created very helpful video tutorials during that time so her clients could learn how to cut their own bangs, manage their color, etc. I always highly recommend Dana when friends in the area are looking for a new stylist. What a beautiful experience! I came across Dana through a Facebook neighborhood page and I am really pleased I decided to try a new stylist and salon. I was looking for something different but a new style that didn't require too much maintenance (I'm the worst with up keep). I've been going to Dana for my haircuts and highlights for 4 years and have never had a bad experience. She is a true professional when it comes to determining the right hairstyle and color for your hair type. Dana takes a consultative approach and will talk with you based on your needs/wants when it comes to haircare/maintenance and will determine the best course of action for you. For example - I have dirty blonde hair and used color my hair to a light blonde meaning I was needing to visit the salon every 8 weeks to maintain that color. That gets expensive! When I found Dana, I explained my desire to cut down on the number of salon visits AND to embrace a more natural look for me. While I would love to visit Dana every 8 weeks for her relaxing spa-like experience, my budget does not allow for this. Dana worked with me to find a highlight/color regimen that works for me and I couldn't be happier! In addition to her expertise with highlights and color, Dana is also extremely perceptive to hair health. Dana has been doing my hair for years and I was ecstatic to visit her new solo space in Lincoln Square for the first time this weekend! Her new salon is bright, cozy, and stocked with goodies for a luxurious and intimate guest experience. Dana is an absolute pro and it's exciting to see her work in her element. But the HAIR! I've preferred short cuts for years and Dana has crafted great short pixies and undercuts that have lasted me double the time of most close-cropped styles, to the point I sometimes miss the free in-between cleanups because my style grows in so well. I've experimented with the whole spectrum of colors with Dana's help over a few years: blue, pink, red, orange, and more - all fading beautifully from vibrant and fresh to pretty pastels. I shaved my entire head for Halloween last year and as my hair grew back in Dana ushered me through all the stages of super short pixie back to the upscale Mohawk I'd started from. Stellar service. I received a color, cut, and deep conditioning treatment from Dana bc my hair needed HELP after the abuse of summer. Love the location and parking was super easy. She listened to my concerns and offered so many options I didn't even realize I had. She explained exactly what she was going to do and discussed price before we started. I lived that bc there was no shock at the end. We used the REF products from Sweden on my hair and they are now my new favorite. I have been a client of Dana's for 5+ years and will never go to anyone else in Chicago. I have short hair and have had bad experiences with short cuts by other stylists. Dana knows my head shape and is always able to give me a cut that is flattering, low maintenance, and grows out well. Dana is also amazing at hair color! I only started getting highlights a few years ago and they always look so natural.
