Popular doughnut shop that also serves breakfast sandwiches and fried chicken (breakfast served all day). If you buy a doughnut, coffee is just $1. There always seemed to be a line but it moved fairly quickly. To save time, you can also order ahead via phone for pick-up. It took about 30 minutes for the chicken tenders I ordered to come out, but they were made fresh and it was busy, so it's all good. The doughnuts were super heavy and sweet - just the way I like 'em. The chocolate was decadent and I had to save half for later in my day because I was getting so full. The pistachio lemon doughnut was a bit lighter and not as sweet; it was an interesting flavor but I probably wouldn't get it again. The cheese danish doughnut looked really good but they were out when I was ordering. There's indoor stools and outdoor tables. Credit cards are accepted. Note that it's located right across a hospital so there will be sirens randomly blaring. No street parking was readily available. A MUST visit if you're gluten intolerant. Holy crap, you guys. Not only are the gluten free donuts regular size (honestly maybe even bigger??) but they're also absolutely delicious. There's a slight graininess reminiscent of your typical gluten free pastry texture, but the taste and fluffiness more than makes up for it. The birthday cake was my favorite. And the Havana iced latte was the best coffee I found on the trip. Extremely affordable, and they had the three gluten free donut options in a separate case on a separate counter than the regular ones. I didn't ask about shared fryers since they were busy, but they did use new tissue for each donut. Who knew that Do-Rite had chicken sandwiches. I went in to get one of their famous donuts and ended up ordering one of their chicken sandwiches to try. The donuts were amazing. The chicken sandwich was average, nothing really stood out to me. The bun was soft and buttery, but the chicken was a bit on the drier side. The sandwich was topped with lettuce and mayo. The restaurant is a bit small and hard to find. There's not a lot of parking in the Streeterville area, so it may be hard to visit. The inside had about 8 bar style seating and plenty of outdoor seating. The staff were super friendly and I received my food quickly. They're on Uber eats so it may be more convenient to order delivery. I'll be back for the donuts. read more

This was our first stop on an hour Chicago tour and it did not disappoint for a dinner option. we came in close to close and the counter person was tremendously friendly. Is it bad or wrong that you pick the hotel you're going to stay in based on proximity to Do Rite Donuts and Chicken? From my January 14, 2019 visit. That's exactly what I did for this trip to Chicago. The last time I came here (April 2018) I had these fabulous donuts from Do Rite but didn't have a chance to try the chicken on a doughnut sandwich. This time I specifically booked the Hyatt Centric so I could walk next-door to get a chicken on a vanilla Bean glaze donut sandwich. Yeah, and that's why I have some cushion on my hips and thighs. It was worth paying more to stay at the Hyatt Centric hotel cost and walking in chilly Chicago to get this tender chicken sensation. Not many people would pay six dollars for a chicken on a doughnut or maybe they would and that's why Do Rite donut chicken sandwich is such a success. I doubt that you would find any other chicken sandwich in the city of Chicago for less than $6. And you're doing yourself a disservice if you did not try this at least once. Maybe twice. Okay in all honesty, call it a dozen times. Is the chicken sandwich Michelin star quality? No but it's damn good and tasty. And that's really all a sandwich needs to be. Plus it doesn't rob your pocketbook because it's a $6 sandwich. You get a nice hearty lunch, a little protein, and sugar and you're on your way. Probably one of the best lunch values anywhere in the city. They give you a bazillion napkins for a reason. Don't even try to pick up the donut or chicken donut sandwich with your fingers unless you plan on getting sticky and have wet wipes handy. Live dangerously. Eat it from the rapper. I may have had too high of an expectation for the sandwich. I thought I'd be able to collect all the flavors of the sandwich but I was mistaken. The sandwich fell apart almost immediately after I began eating it, the chicken and lettuce completely overpowered any chance of tasting the donut bun which I tried eating separate but even that wasn't the best. Luckily we beat the rush at 1030 on a Monday. Heard this place was really good so I had to try the chicken sandwich on a donut. I asked for mayo on the side since I find it weird to put that on a donut. Pickles on the donut were a surprisingly good combo. The chicken was a little under cooked and pink which I don't like. I came back to Do-Rite while in Chicago for hot chicken on a cold day! The food tasted great, but my interactions left me with an odd impression. I ordered from the staff who were friendly and great as usual. However, while waiting for my food, I watched who I assumed was an impatient customer complain to the staff in the kitchen about the order in which they were filling orders. They were filling orders in the order they were received (fair), but this older man had other ideas. He was also leaning into the kitchen while saying this, and his mask was absolutely not covering his nose which made me uncomfortable in such a tight space. I became even more confused when this mad proceeded to enter the kitchen and take things over from his employees that he wasn't happy with. So at this point I presume he is a supervisor/manager which made his behavior and mask wearing (or lack of) even more concerning. To be clear, I did not think the wait for my food was unreasonable, and all of the staff I interacted with were very kind and attentive. However, their supervisor made my group of friends uncomfortable based on how he treated his own employees and how he did not respect his own mask rules for the restaurant. read more
