Well the reviews are right on. The ham and Swiss croissant was very warm, buttery and delicious per my daughter. Your first bite of the croissant brings you back to Paris. The eclair has lots of filling and not too sweet but just flavorful enough to taste the chocolate on top and the light filling. The manager is so friendly and describes anything you have questions on. It is a small place but they do have a room in the back for seating but only 5 small tables.

I was introduced to Hendrickx many years ago when an old college friend brought a chocolate loaf over to a party I had hosted. I remembered it being very delicious and while in the area I stopped to revisit an old favorite. This time I purchased savory with my sweets to go. My husband got their chocolate mousse (which he absolutely loved) and I chose the 1/2 soup and sandwich combo. I went with their soup of the day (Asparagus) and the Tuna salad. The soup was a flop. Despite the presence of asparagus, it fell flat and needed more season. As for the tuna sandwich, I enjoyed it a lot. Not only was the tuna delicious but the bread was soft yet springy. Bread is their specialty but most of the offerings outside of bread are good. The service I received was excellent. I had shopping to do and didn't want to carry food so they held my goods until I was ready to pick it up later. With a lack of interior dining space, outdoor tables and chairs are available for a nice meal al fresco. The parking sitch is challenging in the Gold Coast. As a result I chose valet to avoid the hassle. Oftentimes most clientele who shop here either live or work nearby. If you're staying at the Drake with the intention of seeking casual fare outside the hotel, this is a great option.

Amazing croissants in a cute shop with super friendly service. I asked what the Belgian croissant was made of and the answer was "butter and love". When I bit into it, that was the 100% perfect description! Can't wait to go back next time I'm in Chicago to try their other treats!

The perfect spot for petit dejeuner! Such a charming little spot with a handful of tables. I was impressed with the assortment of breads, pastries, and other treats. I enjoyed the prosciutto croissant sandwich, the arugula helps to balance the richness of the other elements. The speculoos latte was delicious and not too sweet. I took home an Icelandic lava cake and shortbread cookies which were also magnificent!

Wandered into this bakery on a whim since it's tucked away in Magnificent Mile. They had a nice selection of croissant options so I opted for the Pistachio Croissant. Not the flakiest croissant I've ever had (tasted a tad stale) but the pistachio paste filling was yummy. Also the staff is SO nice. The man in front was so friendly and bubbly, 10/10 service. They do have some indoor seating but you have to walk through the kitchen to get there which is interesting. Outdoor seating is aplenty.

Walked past many times without realizing where this bakery actually was. Look upwards for the orange door up the stairs! Service was great. Super sweet and explained their popular items, what they have, and that there was actually seating past the bakery section. After I placed my order for dine in, I was led around the corner through the kitchen to a small seating area. My order was brought to my table and there's a sign that tells you to just leave your finished dishes on the table for them to collect. The food was also great. The pastries I tried were fresh. I love a warm canelé. The pistachio croissant had a thick pistachio paste that was a little sweeter than I was expecting but paired well either way my latte. Would love to come back and try more of their goods.

One of my favorite bakeries in Chicago, some of the best croissants. We ordered: - Pistachio-Chocolate Croissant - Belgian Croissant - Almond-Chocolate Croissant Honestly, the Belgian Croissant was probably my favorite of the three. Very soft and flavorful, definitely recommend picking one up.

Behind the counter -- quite an array of croissants and pastries.

Tiny but mighty. Large variety of delicious fresh European style croissants and pastries. Lavazza coffee and tea, breakfast sandwiches and other savories. You order, then walk around an inside corner next to the kitchen to get to a small seating area with floor to ceiling windows to the street! Cozy and warm. Really good. Owners on site and they are very nice - excellent service!

Not noticeable from the street, but so good when you walk in. Was consistently busy. The owner was so nice. Everyone was welcoming and provided impeccable service. The quiche was yum. The chocolate croissant was flakier and tastier than the plain croissant. The coffees were piping hot. The mocha had chocolate melted into it, so the bottom half was more chocolate than coffee. A hidden gem that locals are clearly aware of. Would go back.

Loved the egg salad croissant . It was buttery. The egg salad was perfect . It was small but I ate in . A few tables but fun! I will eat outside when the weather gets there! The bakery cookies were the best. The server and hostess were so nice! I will most definitely go again . There are stairs to go up. You order at the counter to eat there or to go ! I can't wait to return !

I was curious and wanted to visit but I was underwhelmed. On the other hand, I'm glad I finally got to try some Madelines! My little one seemed to like those a lot too. The sables were ok, and were pretty humungous. The place is small--they said there's more seating inside but I'm not sure I understand where. There are a few tables outside if you're here to hang out a few minutes. They had some interesting savory croissants and I did like that. Parking is nonexistent, really, except there are two or three 15-minute spots right in front of the building that houses the bakery. I happened to get lucky and there was one of them open. I don't think there's an accessible entrance, unless its going around the side of the building or something.

wow! What a hidden gem that took my whole life to discover. I am not much of a bread eater but I was in the mood for a hearty lunch and after reading some of the reviews I decided to stop by. First off the space is a hole in the wall and small in comparison of what's around but it's worth seeking this bakery. First off the staff is so warm and patient. The food is a steal, their lunch specials are so reasonable. I ordered soup and half a sandwich for $13 and the portion was huge. Finally the food is so delicious! I tried their gruyere croissant and it was amazing, the tomato celery soup is divine and the loved the curry chicken salad!

    Erin J.

This is a very small bakery with the sweetest, kindest staff! Counter service where you can order made to order sandwiches, pastries, or sweets. Drinks too! They also have a soup or two. The ingredients are fresh. We ordered a chocolate almond croissant, caprese croissant sandwich, and lentil soup. All were nice. The frangipane in the almond croissant was a bit stiff but the chocolate was delicious. The soup is very creamy. The interior eat in section is very small and cozy. If they're busy don't linger too long to allow other patrons the opportunity to sit. Also they sell pre-loved books which I absolutely love!!!!

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

Thankfully they still had their famous breakfast sandwiches by the time I ordered (even though they normally stop selling them at noon). Got a couple drinks- Ube Latte and the Corn Maiz Tea Latte. I'll preface by saying that the Corn Maiz drink was my favorite thing I got from Kasama. It has a strong corn flavor that blends perfectly with the milk tea. This is a 10/10 no notes. Ube latte was also tasty. For food I ordered a ton of things: -Longanisa Egg and Cheese Sandwich w a hash brown: was surprisingly just okay IMO. Egg is very uniquely fluffy, more like a steamed egg than a scramble! The rest of the sandwich was tasty but nothing special. -Filipino Breakfast Platter w both meats: the Tocino is delish! IMO the better of the two breakfast meats. Garlic rice is good, but i always love garlic rice. -Italian Beef Eggrolls: so crispy and delicious with the gardeneira dipping sauce! Weekends only item- be sure to try! -Lumpia: so crispy and flavorful, they really fry things well here. -Matcha Pandan Eclair: the choux was pipped on top, and was so fluffy and delicious. The crispy rice inside the shell added a fun texture. This was my favorite pastry! -Truffle Croissant: lamination was good, flavors were a bit weird. Was overly sweet from the rock sugar + honey, so much that it overpowered the truffle IMO which is hard to do. -Guava and cheese ensaymada: very fluffy brioche with yummy filling. This was good, really wanted to try the ube one but they were out :( -Ube and Huckleberry basque cake: very rich! Was suggested this instead of the ube ensaymada and it was definitely more huckleberry than ube. Tasty though. Overall this spot was good and certain things (corn maiz drink, pandan eclair, Italian beef eggrolls) were worth the wait while others are overhyped. I would definitely order ahead next time for take out or sit inside- cute indoor and outdoor seating options!

I bought 3 and my friend got 2. Calamansi cream + pistachio paste danish was my favorite. The Calamansi cream was the perfect texture and density with a fragrant citrus note. Flaky dough, soft pistachio center and creamy top with a sharp citrus cut. Peach + raspberry Melba danish. The peaches were soft. I'm not familiar with a Melba dessert but the center of this was almond paste which is not my favorite but if you like almond and tart danish it would hit the spot. Raspberry espresso cream cheese cinnamon roll was a fun fruity twist to a cinnamon roll. Couldn't really tell there was espresso though. Blueberry lime cheesecake danish. I also liked this one because of the lime. It really cuts through the heaviness. The fruits on top were also fresh. They also have one day old blind boxes. I grabbed a 6 piece day old box to go and it was actually 6 different pasteries, half sweet and half savory! It only repeated 1 of the pasteries I had originally tried so I'm excited to try more, especially the savory ones. It's an amazing deal if you just want to try a variety of flavors. Tried the Hot dog danish - really good! Upscale pigs in a blanket vibes. The tiny fried are seasoned perfectly and add a fun crunch. I went on a weekday and there was still a good selection of pastries left around 11am. The staff was super nice and helpful as I struggled to make a decision. They shared that the strawberry milk croissant was their bestseller, so I opted for that. It was filled with fresh strawberry mascarpone and fresh strawberry puree. Despite the croissant's decadent appearance, it was not at all too sweet. I'm not typically the biggest croissant fan (I know, I know, no one is perfect) but this pastry blew me away. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellent customer service truly stood out. One feature we especially love is that they keep the recipe and design of your wedding cake on file. Every anniversary, they can recreate your wedding cake or a cake in any size you choose. We've continued this tradition, and each anniversary cake has been just as delicious as the original while bringing back wonderful memories of our wedding day. If you're looking for a bakery that is responsive, dependable, and delivers an outstanding product, I highly recommend Bittersweet Bakery for your wedding cake or any bakery needs. They responded promptly to our questions and requests, unlike some businesses that never replied to estimate inquiries. Their customer service and quality were truly exceptional. A heartfelt thank you to Samuel who conducted the Cake Tasting and the entire staff at Bittersweet Bakery for helping make our dream wedding a reality. We will always be grateful and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with your incredible cakes.

The quiche is always fantastic, and anything out of the pastry case is a must. Drinks are good as well! Such a cozy spot to grab coffee with a friend (or give in to the temptation of snagging a pastry on your way to the brown line)
