Went here on a business trip with some colleagues. French onion soup was amazing! Housemade blue cheese dressing was out of this world! And the crab cakes were some of the BEST I've had outside of Maryland. The staff was in costume and character and very attentive and polite. Definitely worth a stop. A friend of mine ate here on a recent trip to Gettysburg. We ate down in the basement at the tavern. It's tight, but cozy. Where else can you eat lunch by candlelight? Everyone is dressed in period clothing and the restaurant is a total throwback to the 1700s. Excellent French onion soup. Reasonably priced at the Tavern, and good sized portions. The Daubin's House: Springhouse Restaurant. When you first walk in, you notice lovely 18th century and civil war décor. The house is neat and tidy, and each room has a different theme. I enjoyed marveling in the fact that we were inside an 18th century abode! We happened to eat in a downstairs room: the library room. The servers were wearing old-fashioned clothes, and I believe the food was prepared over a actual fire pit! The waitress addressed us as Ma'am and Sir, and was very kind. We started off with an assortment of freshly baked breads and muffins: that night's breads were as follows: Peach infused white, Mocha coffee muffins, and Hearth baked brown. They were positively scrumptious! My main entrée was a 5 ounce filet mignon served with my choice of a baked potato or a sweet potato. I also had garlic asparagus which was extremely palatable! We did not muster enough appetite for desert, so we tried their homemade mint chocolates instead! One word- delectable! This restaurant was one of my favorites, and it shall continue to go down in history as one of the most delicious and interesting atmospheric experiences in my book! read more

I love period dining with period-dressed staff and period menu. This was a great treat. We ate in the Tavern and were very pleased.

Atmosphere was great, service was ok, food a little pricey for the quality. Order the onion soup, the steak sandwich was good, hamburger was good, large portion. Roast beef sandwich was served plain, just roast beef and bread, with a'jus but not very tasty at all. Potato salad was sweet and vinegary. The grilled chicken sandwich was very good. read more

Loved this place! We ate in the dining room upstairs. Loved seeing all the artifacts and original layout of the house. Ive been to the dining in Williamsburg and this was by far the best! Michelle was our waitress this new years eve. She was so amazing and we were very impressed with the service. The place was jam packed and her service was so amazing that we (the 12 person party) have to say that she was super helpful. I have a food allergy and she was great about it! I really enjoyed the meal at Dobbin House. The period setting and dress makes for a fun dining experience. Although I didn't have their famous french onion soup, others in my party raved about it. The bread baskets are phenomenal and offer a wide variety of choices. I tried the crab cake dinner. Very good with huge lumps of meat throughout. Good for a date night or a fun dinner with the family if you visit Gettysburg. Prices tend to be towards the expensive side, but expected given the location. read more

The history and atmosphere adds to the experience. Free tours of the Dobbin House are available daily at 10am and is one of the best in the area. This is a neat place-the tavern downstairs - but the food was really lousy...yes, except for the onion soup which was excellent. I had the open faced Reuben on soft, untoasted bread. Really, it was inedible-who doesn't toast the bread?? My friend had the ham/spinach/mushroom sandwich...I think we saw 2-3 uncooked mushrooms and the ham was piled flat like a kid made it. Yuk! Also, while the small soup was $2 a coke was $2.50. Not going back-oh...and we had to wait 45 minutes for a 2:30 lunch. read more

An absolute must-visit in Gettysburg. The place is historical, and the tavern downstairs (the Springhouse Tavern) gives you a great feel for what taverns back in the 1800s were like. The food was delicious as well (particularly the Dobbin's Filet Mignon & Crabcake), and decently priced. There's a dining room upstairs as well, but that's pricier and requires advance reservations. I wish we could have gone on the day when there are tours of the building - I've heard they're fantastic as well! There's also a fantastic little shop with local goods, like preserves and desserts, in the lobby area, so while you're waiting for a seat, you can browse. 5 stars all the way!! read more

A lovely old-style tavern in Gettysburg. I definitely recommend giving this place a try when you are in the area. The Springhouse Tavern is the downstairs portion, which is the portion my fiancee and I visited. While we waited to be seated, we were permitted to visit the little shop upstairs. We bought some of the finest peanut brittle as well as some sarsaparilla (which tastes a bit like old style root beer). After a reasonable wait, we were seated. The tavern is a bit crowded and loud, but that is largely due to the old architecture (authentic taverns are often crowded and loud of necessity). The food was great. It is cooked in an authentic style, tastes delicious, and is all priced reasonably. I began with the Baked King's Onion Soup; it was not the greatest onion soup I've ever tasted, but it was still very good! I then had the Half Chicken Dinner as my entree. The chicken was expertly seasoned and skillfully cooked. It is easy to cook chicken poorly, but Dobbin House served me some of the best chicken I'd had in a while. The roll was a bit underwhelming, but the baked potato was large and delicious! Overall, Dobbin House offers a fun, historical experience with some delicious, historical food, all for a good price! Check this place out the next time you are in Gettysburg. read more

Our table also ordered the Rum Belly drink special and where equally impressed. Loved this place! We were in Gettysburg and I found this place on yelp. I was looking for a restaurant that would depict old colonial times and this was definitely it! We had lunch there. The food was good. I had the crab cake sandwich with coleslaw and the King's onion soup. The atmosphere is what we really loved. It's so neat to see a building that old and I like that most things in there are original. Our only complaint is that it was soooo cold in there. The dinner menu is very expensive, so I'm glad we were there for lunch. I would highly recommend this place. read more

Every single waitress looked like obese duplicates of snow white. the food looked plastic but managed to taste like candle wax. there was no part of my experience that i enjoyed. the bathroom stall had a lock that didn't work. i advise you to not dine at this restaurant. read more

This place is AMAZING!! I had the steak and lobster and it was absolutely incredible. Another person in my party got the scallops, and when I tell you they were the best scallops I've ever had I mean it. Buttery, smooth, flavorful, amazing. The atmosphere was really cozy and authentic. They also happened to have a guitar player that night and they did a wonderful job entertaining the guests and going from table to table while taking requests. 100% recommend this place, do yourself a favor and visit at least once while you're in Gettysburg. read more

While staying in Gettysburg, we dined two evenings in the dining room. The food was excellent, the servings were generous and the service was impeccable. The first visit, we ordered the onion soup and the prime rib, both were perfect. The second visit, my husband ordered the duck and I had the veal Marsala. The portions were more than adequate. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We were seated immediately upon arrival without a reservation. The bread basket has three different breads, all outstanding. The atmosphere is delightful, a rare find these days. Parking can be a challenge, but a short work is totally worth it. You may need it after filling your belly with the amazing fare. read more

The Tavern section of the Dobbins House has wonderful atmosphere and very good food. The menu contains lots of options -the Deli style sandwiches and soup are excellent. It is located in the basement of the house and is limited in space. On the weekends during tourist season be there just before the doors open at 11:30 for lunch or you will have a very long wait. The staff is friendly and attentive. The pricing is very reasonable. read more

I was excited to finally eat at the Dobbin House. I have eaten in the Spring House many times and always liked it. The food at the Dobbin was good. Not what I would have expected for the money but not that bad that I would make it less then three stars. Wait staff was great. Very friendly and brought food out hot and with smile.
