Fantastic food. Well worth the wait to get in. The ambiance was what would be expected in the revolutionary war era

We showed up a bit late (around 8:30...they close at 9) and they were still very polite and happy to serve us. The french onion soup was fantastic. I ordered the ginger cake and due to no fault of the chef, I was not a huge fan. The cake was moist and dense however I think I just don't like ginger cake. Our waitress (who's name was Lauren I believe) replaced the cake with the apple pie and I was so pleased. My boyfriend had the pecan pie and said it was amazing (he ate it so fast I couldn't even get a picture). We had come here directly from having a terrible meal at a local Thai place so to have good food and even better service really turned our night around. The ambiance of this place was great too, wish we came here to start and ordered more food. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Another place we had high-hopes for that didn't come through. I ordered a burger that was good, but the cole slaw wasn't cold. My wife ordered a salad with a crab cake. The salad came out with my burger, but the crab cake took and additional 15+ minutes. Also, I'm dinging them an additional star for seating us in the parking lot tent instead of the 1775 house. The dobbins house is really a historic place to see. Main dining rooms are decorated as if you went back in time. The basement is rustic and really interesting. Louder than the dining room. Our server Consuela was excellent but every where is short of help but she still did a fantastic job of getting our drinks and food out as fast as she could. The food was incredible. I didn't give this place 5 twinkles for the food, but the ambiance was historically magical. With a speak easy feel to it, the sub leveled tavern was like a trip to the past. The walls stone cold , the wood rustically planned, the table candles dripping on their cast iron holders and the servers boasting turn of the century garbs. My char grilled steak was tasty, tender a d just perfect for lunch. My cocktail, the first rum drink on the menu, made me quite gay. (Using era appropriate words here. Ha!) Walking downstairs felt like walking back in time. The dark wood and brick created a unique sensation. Highly recommend a house salad with homemade blue cheese dressing and the colossal crab dinner. Made a reservation based on wonderful reviews and canceled it when I saw that they are not letting people dine in the inn but rather in the parking lot under a chilly tent. Basically the high end pandemic picnicking that is being phased out due to dropping numbers, vaccinations and lifted restrictions. I'm sure the high prices reflect excellent food but it's the inn I came to experience, not the parking lot. read more

Built in 1776, the Dobbin House Tavern is a must for any visitor to Gettysburg. The authentic charm oozes at every corner of the building with servers in period clothing. If it were replicated in Walt Disney World, it would be the most popular restaurant in the resort. We ate at the Tavern twice, once for lunch and once for dinner, and glad we did. The onion soup was just as good as it looks and my NY Strip steak was the perfect temperature (something is somewhat rare these days, pardon the pun). Even for dinner, Dobbin House is an excellent value. We had 4 glasses of wine, 2 steak entries, and soup for $90, before tip. Our server deserved and received a 20% tip. Lunch was a bit less memorable. My wife's burger made me wish I had not order the hot beef sandwich. Located in the heart of the historic downtown, it also had it's own parking, which is quite an asset and welcomed convenience. read more

My husband and I had a beautiful experience at the Dobbin House. We were time traveled to the 1800's as we went down the stairs to the bar area. The wait staff were dressed in period attire and were very friendly and knowledgeable. The food we had was good! We enjoyed it very much. read more

THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING PLACE. If you love history and food- its a must. It felt like Disney land walking in. The history is incredible. The slave hideaway was a surprise and just ended our visit in Gettysburg how it should have ended. Staff was incredible to our party of 4 adults and 4 CHILDREN. Mediocre food at best . Burger ordered medium came well done and dry. Gingerbread cake stale,crab cake tasteless and the server Nikki was the worst ever, rude disrespectful and forgetful . Def not going back. Owner says the burger is one of their best sellers . That doesn't mean it's any good . It's a perfectly formed premade patty . Just wasn't cooked properly . Here recently for an over priced buffet. Baked chicken not done, ziti ok but nothing to recommend. No ice in the iced tea, let's call it lukewarm tea. I was looking for a romantic weekend, but men's room is cramped, no one knew where the menu for dinner was, or cost of rooms, etc. Easy decision! read more

This is not an upscale establishment. If you are used to fine dining (as the price indicates), please do not waste your time here. The wait time wasn't bad, but it took us 10-15 min to be greeted. Our drinks came 15 min later. My bf ordered the NY Strip with crab cake. It was fatty and he had to spit out a bite into his napkin because it was a huge bit of ligament. It was an extremely disappointing experience for the amount of money spent. The ambience and service was mediocre. Although, the host was nice and the place did have an colonial era feel to it, I would recommended you find something else within Gettysburg if you'd like to get your money's worth. read more

We went to the Dobbin House about 1 hour before closing on Labor Day evening. The ambiance is amazing and the staff dresses in period clothing. It felt as though we stepped back into history. We sat at the bar which was an amazing piece of furniture built with tongue and groove wood. It was late so we had the French Onion Soup based on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. It was amazing. We also had their signature cocktail Rum Bellies (of which you can have a max of 2 based on alcohol content) and it was delicious. Wonderful historic atmosphere in the tavern. Made me feel like I was dining in an establishment 200 years ago. I had a great local draft been an the catch of the day: mahi-mahi. The fish was nicely prepared grilled, good but not memorable. My wife the ribs and she enjoyed it as well but again not memorable. Definitely worth experiencing a meal here. read more

This was our first time here at the recommendation of friend. We were here to get the full encompassing experience of Gettysburg. This restaurant brings exactly that. It can be confusing for a first timer, being that it is two restaurants in one. We choose the Tavern side and boy, was it the right choice. While all covid accommodations were in place such as outdoor seating, we opted to eat inside the tavern. Adequate spacing was present inside. The icing on the cake was the actual candle that was lit while we ate. Menu was straight forward and not bombarded with extra fluff. Food was reasonably priced on the tavern end. I opted for the blue cheese burger and their tavern root beer. Hamburger was cooked exactly medium rare and the coleslaw was perfect. Not too tangy or watery. My father opted for the crab cake special. Overall, this experience was pleasant and gave us the best representation of the era. On our next visit, we cannot wait to come back. read more

I did not eat so the food could be good. We went to the tavern. Nice old world feeling for a tavern. Reminded me of Chownings in Williamsburg va. Beer is served in water glasses not a mug or pint which would go with the environment. Both my glasses came out dirty I sent back. Switched to a cocktail which was better. Meh, overpriced food. The bread basket was my favorite, but my meat was very undercooked, and I didn't enjoy it much. Our waitress was very nice, and I love the old fashioned uniforms they all wore. Grandpa's fillet was way undercooked, no where near medium like he'd asked it to be. The waitress put it back on the grill THREE TIMES and it still wasn't cooked. Grandpa ate it anyway, and at the end the waitress gave us a free delicious cheesecake. So, over all a kind of pleasant experiance, but probably not somewhere I would want to go again. read more

We went in early evening to grab a bite to eat. We we're greeted as soon as we walked in and seated quickly. Drink order was taken an when server returned we were asked if we had ever been at the Dobbin House before and then we were given a brief history. Our order was taken with server not writing down. The house is pretty neat, def a lot history. Our waitress was awesome, I mean, really great at doing what she does. Dinner was ok. The French onion soup was the highlight. Very good. Our salads were salads, the homemade dressing was pretty decent. Main course for mrs: scallops wrapped with bacon in sauce. The scallops were seared, then baked I think. The taste was ok, but they were "tough, and crunchy at the same time". Maybe just overdone a little bit. 9 got a kids ny strip, medium rare. It was cooked spot on, nothing fancy, but pretty good. 6 got kids shrimp, she said tasted like puppies smell. Mrs and I agreed. I had veal in a mushroom sauce. It was average. Could have been a little more tender, could have been a little better. All in all, at this price point, I feel like the dinner should have been stand out great, and it wasn't. read more

We really loved our dinner here. The wait staff in period clothing is an awesome touch and adds to the ambiance. The menu has something for everyone, I recommend the lobster tail it is delicious and huge. The orange roughy is also a dish you should try. Definitely do not skip dessert. Come here for its food and history! Always enjoy visiting the Alexander Dobbin dining room with its candlelit tables and colonial menu. The menu is an extensive offering of local fare prepared as if you're stepping back in time along with a few more updated dishes and a children's menu. Love, love their avocado Louis to start with (though I can have a few of these and call it a day!). Their cocktails are delicious while I wished the wine list to be more expansive. The pork loin with raspberry sauce was a clear winner followed by the duck and the hunters chicken. Our whole family enjoyed telling stories about the area and reviewing our day after visiting the battlefields - the ambiance truly encourages conversation and phones down. Service was excellent from the most amazing welcome hostesses to the our main waiter in the dining room. They are a class act all around. Oh - and kudos to the senior lady who arranges the nicest wildflower arrangements all through the restaurant. What a touch! Can't wait to return. read more
