I stopped at Dobbs Auto Repair on my way back to Chicago over winter break after realizing my coolant was low. Even though it was a quick, minor issue, the staff was incredibly courteous and more than happy to help. They topped it off without hesitation and treated me with the same professionalism you'd expect for a major repair. It was such a relief to be helped promptly and kindly while traveling. Great customer service, friendly staff, and a place that clearly values taking care of people. I'd absolutely stop here again if I'm in the area. read more

I had a slow leak in one of my tires, and popped by this Dobbs location (where I had purchased the tires a couple of years ago) late on a Friday afternoon while in the area. I knew it was a long shot to get in and indeed they were loaded up for the day. So I scheduled an appt for early the next week. Brought my car back in, they took about an hour to diagnose (it was a screw broken off in the tire) and fix it. When I asked how much I owed for the fix they said it was free under warranty. Everyone was very courteous and professional. My car is a Mini Cooper and I will usually take to the dealer for more consequential repairs, but highly recommend Dobbs, and this location in particular for these kinds of more routine repairs. read more

Earlier this week my mom took her vehicle to Dobbs in Fairview Heights to get her flat tire serviced. They told her that the issue was the right valve stem. Whatever needed to be fixed GUARANTEED that the problem was fixed and they sent her on her way. Fast forward next morning, the rim is on the ground from the tire being low. Dealing with a service issue with your car is never fun and so hard to know who to trust, especially when it's is a corporate shop vs a local mom and pop shop. I have used Dobbs 4 times (have 3 cars) and they have been pleasant, performed great work and unbelievably not pushing the upsell BS I'm use to from auto shops. Took my car in as I had a knocking coming from the passenger side rear end. After diagnosing the problem, they decided I need not shocks and springs on the rear end. When I picked my car up and backed out of my parking place the same knocking noise was still happening. So after $1000, they fixed nothing. Not wanting to take it back to Dobbs, I found another mechanic that fixed the problem. I won't review that mechanic here but it was another $2200 to finally get it fixed. read more

I have been coming to the Dobbs' Fairview Heights location for some time. I've been lucky that it has never been anything big - oil changes, low tires - and I have always been pleased with their service. This week I had major car trouble. I called Dobbs, and they got me right in. The manager, Jason, is the best thing to happen at this location. I can be a bit of a "Karen" when it comes to my car, because I don't know anything about them and I start to get panicky. Jason takes his time, answers every question, and I feel heard. Even though the work was major, I was in and out in under 90 minutes. I hope I do not have to go through this again for a while, but if I do, I am so glad Jason and Dobbs is around the corner. read more

Terrible service I received from this location. Had the oil and filter changed and they did not top off any fluids or check the air in the tires. Three out of four tires were very low. Contacted the manager of the location and he told me well things happen and laughed about it. I will not go to this location again. read more

Use your valet key, and lock up everything. Because of perceived trickery, it's been a year or two since my last visit, but I needed a leaking tire fixed and they're close to me. Ugh. I drive a company leased car, and most shops see this as a blank check to do whatever they want without my approval, so I'm always on guard. Today the price and service was good, but what irked me enough to write about was when I signed the papers to leave. Papers signed and they hand me a fleet driver info booklet I keep in my glove box. I was obviously perplexed, so Greg quickly interjected he needed some additional info from it. I was sitting in the waiting room, and they never asked me any questions or where to find this book they "needed". BTW, all the pertinent fleet info was on the card I gave Greg when I checked in. The booklet has nothing more they need, it's info for the driver. I'm pissed that they snooped my car while I waited patiently. I'm convinced they were looking at my fleet maintenance records to see what else they could convince the fleet co to pay for. Arrogant snoopy crooks! read more

Called in to sch. an apt. to have my evap. system checked. Was given a price and a date to bring my car up. When I made the Apt. I asked how long they would need my car, it was then explained they like to keep it for the day, I agreed to this and even got a price on how much the diagnostic would cost. It seemed cut and dry? The day of the Apt. arrives and when I handed over my keys and gave my name, the gentleman at the counter looks a little confused. He asked me what I was there for and I explained. I then asked if he had me on the sch. and he said he needed to ask someone else, he walked up to another gentleman and explained the situation, this second man then said, "I just told her we would need it for the day, and I don't think we can get to it until tomorrow" WTH, did I not book the apt. correctly? I understand that if they were to diagnose a problem, they would most likely need to keep the car longer but for most people that takes planning, arranging rides to drop the car off and to get to work and what not. Does Dobbs not actually give appointments? If that is the case, I strongly recommend making that clear when someone called in and sets up what they believe to be an apt. read more

I'd never been to this location prior to today, and while my car is still there until this afternoon or evening, I'm pleased. I was able to get my car in immediately and so far communication about what is wrong and the projected price has been great. I needed my tires balanced and an oil change. I went to Firestone first, it was going to be 2-3 hours. I thought I'd try Dobbs and was I glad I did. They had me in and out in less than an hour and it was much less expensive than Firestone. Another thing that I was impressed with, they have a woman that works the counter. This is a great idea for all the ladies out there that feel intimidated at an auto repair store. I would recommend Dobbs to anyone! read more

(1) Sales tax was charged on labor services which are not taxable. Parts and labor for disc brake service were grouped into one package price. Sales tax was charged on the entire package price and not just for the parts. The Illinois Internal Revenue Service has been notified to investigate. (2) Dobbs advertises their "Parts & Labor Fixed Forever" warranty on TV which they bill as a full warranty and not the partial warranty that other retailers give. However, this advertising is quite misleading since they do not mention that this warranty is given on only a limited number of service repairs and with restrictions. My repair bill of $1,245.41 only qualified for a limited standard warranty and not a full warranty! (3) Dobbs found further repair work that needed to be considered and quoted me a cost of $866 (both rear strut/spring assemblies and 4-wheel alignment). North Belt Automotive in Belleville, IL did this work for $534. If you are smart, you will steer your vehicle away from Dobbs and avoid getting shafted! read more
