So fun! My friend and I stopped in here in the afternoon for a drink and we sat at the bar and were treated to an enormous menu of beers, wines and cocktails. I ordered what I typically order and my friend tried to wallow her way through all of the different local beers to find something that was close to what she typically drinks. Fortunately we had an excellent bartender who helped her out and directed her to a local beer that she thought she might enjoy. My friend was given a taste of it as a sample and it was perfectly to her taste. We also ordered an appetizer which had olives, mushrooms and vegetables such as artichokes in kind of an oil base and it was served with crackers. We enjoyed it very much and enjoyed the very pleasant atmosphere there. Wee look forward to going back again and trying more of the food and more of the drink read more

Nice small menu, I would 100% recommend getting the Alabama dry spice wings with the white bbq sauce, the pink potatoes with cheddar ju (incredible), cheddar fritters, and the smash burger! When traveling my motto is "When in Rome.....(you know the rest!) So on our first night in Stowe it was cheese, ice cream, and cider!! As we drive into Stowe we used Yelp to reserve a place on line at Doc Ponds, a casual bar/restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is not huge but has a nice variety of appetizer, snacks, mains, and desserts. We tried a little of each, including: Bayley Blue Balls and VT Cheddar Fritters: Both of these dishes are basically fried cheese. But they are so perfectly executed and exquisitely delicious that I refuse to be judged. The Balls are Arancini with blue cheese, fried to a golden crisp. The sharpness of the blue cheese is perfectly balanced by the wildflower honey coating. The Fritters tasted totally different, served over beans with a picked jalapeño accompaniment. Wings with Chili Garlic Sauce: My favorite dish! Loved the sweet & spicy sauce (better than I have had at some Thai restaurants). Caesar Salad: Very hearty, served with a hard boiled egg. Doc Burger; Not huge, but very tasty. Mac & Cheese: Excellent! The side dish for $4 is a nice sized portion. Knife & Fork Grilled Cheese: Made with prosciutto and timberdoodle cheese. Not sure what timberdoodle cheese is, but the sandwich was delicious. Salted Caramel and Vanilla Milkshakes: Can milkshakes ever be bad, especially with the fresh ice cream in Vermont? We came for lunch and they have a decent size parking lot. We were seated pretty quickly. The service was ok, they were short staffed. I had the burrito bowl chipotle mushroom, it was very good and different. I had cheese fritters that were also very good. Pricing was average. Stopped here from a recommendation from a Bartender at the Von Trapp Brewery. He was right on being a great place to stop for a bite to eat and a whole bunch of Beers for selections. I had ordered the Doc Ponds Cheeseburger and it was cooked to perfection with a huge side of home cut French fries. For my beer selection I choose Skadoosh by Alchemist, it was refreshing and sold out pretty quick. Definitely make this stop if you're in the Stowe area. Only thing to look out for is their seating.....they offer some low seating with nice leather chairs with a coffee table but difficult to have a full meal in that position. read more

Upon arriving in Stowe Vermont (a place I had never been) looking for food after a three hour plus ride from home. Yelp recommended a few places, read a few reviews, looked where we were situated and decided upon the one that had wings; two kinds mind you, traditional buffalo and the dry rub flavor was Alabama white BBQ sauce. Order was taken, before long the plates were out of the kitchen with two big bowls of jumbo wings. Table was prepped with wet naps and bowls to deposit the bones. The wings were cooked to perfection. not dry, nice and juicy. The buffalo flavored were not fall off the bone juicy, but instead fully cooked and tight. The Alabama flavored wings held tightly to their dry rub upon them. Like I said, a three hour drive made the stomach wanting more! So, I ordered the Doc Smash Burger (the double) Oh My....I've had the chain burgers, homemade burgers, my mom's burgers, but this was epic. Fresh cheese, burger cooked correctly (to be honest the waitress did not write down the specifics on how I wanted my burger and i thought for sure she would get it wrong. mea culpa!) juicy and flavorful. no burger had tasted so good. While the menu has changed a bit, the food and service is still amazing. We do miss the hummus that was on the menu previously. Stowe was filled to the gills with people visiting VT for the July 4th weekend and the Stowe Balloon Festival. Even with such a crowd, the Doc Ponds crew took care of everyone with ease. We had our dog, Mambo, with us, so wanted some outdoor seating. Not only did we get seating on their patio, they even brought the dog dish over to him. To Mambo's benefit, we forgot to bring his dinner. Doc Ponds to the rescue! I ordered the double burger, and asked that the 2nd patty be placed on a separate plate. Very nice decor, promptly seated, friendly yet most likely a bit stoned waiter (he had to check back a few times to remember orders) good food, drinks small yet good as well. Not sure if the a bit off waiter times the food wrong or the kitchen, but the meals came out ahead of the apps. The cutlery & napkins are in bins on the tables, the parking area fills fast for the dinner crowd, the menu is what I'd call limited based on the size of the place but like I said the meals were good. Doc Ponds is hands down the best restaurant in Stowe. First, let's talk about food. Their mac & cheese is MIND-BLOWING. It's made with real VT cheddar, and the cheese coats all of the pasta shells like a luscious velvet blanket. (Hungry yet?) The crispy breadcrumbs on top add the crispy texture you need make that mouthful even more amazing. Did I mention it is only...$6 a bowl!? (At least as of March 2019.) Every dish that came out was excellent from the tamari broccoli to the taco salad to the chips and dip. You honestly can't go wrong with anything. First and foremost, the smoked chicken with the chimichurri and slaw is the best thing I ate in Stowe all weekend. The spice they use on the chicken is very flavorful and the chimichurri and the slaw only boost the flavor even more. The portion is plentiful - a breast, thigh, wing, and leg (half chicken). If I am back in Stowe, I'll be back for the same dish. Blue balls: definitely a unique dish. The risotto and honey are very good and the sweet vs salty flavor is on point. Cod corn fritters: these were a toss up with the smoked chicken for favorite dish. They came with a jalapeño aioli that was NOT lacking flavor. It tasted like you smashed together a crab cake and a corn fritter, but also added a super flavorful aioli. It comes with 4 balls but I think I could a bowl of 12 All in all if I returned I would have a super hard time not ordering the chicken and cod corn fritters again read more

This hidden gem found in the lovely little town of Stowe, VT cannot be passed up! I stumbled upon this place after a local from the area suggested it when acquiring for lunch spots on my day trip to Stowe. Also, little did we know it is the sister restaurant of one of the most popular restaurants in the area, Hen of the Wood located in Burlington, that we hadn't been able to visit. Appetizer Must: Bayley Blue Balls!! My mouth is still watering with the lingering taste of these in my mouth! Golf all sized arancini balls with blue cheese, perfectly fried to golden perfection. Although I did not partake in alcohol, they had an array of options, everything from wine to cocktails to beer. Loved the local pride in beer, as all drafts were VT beers and most of their bottle/cans were too! Our table had an array of food that was all worthy. Steamed Clams, Fried Oysters, Brisket Bomb, Red Cabbage Slaw, Mac & Cheese. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed every bite of their meals and sampling everyone else's too. Extra shout out goes to the MAC & CHEESE!! Now, when you're in Vermont you have to partake in more than your fair share of cheese dishes, especially the Mac & Cheese, because you know it's made with the Vermont Cheddar and will be mouth watering!! Doc Ponds was on my list of restaurants to visit months before our vacation.  My husband, nephew and I dropped in one evening expecting a great meal.  We got one...but it was a little pricey.  My broke, college-aged nephew wasn't happy that his soda was $3.00, with zero refills.  He didn't know this and when they asked if he wanted another, he said "sure."  He doesn't get out much, so he didn't think to ask if they had free refilla. The waitress should have said something.  My nephew's mac & cheese with chorizo was good, but it didn't seem to have much cheese in it.  We were expecting ooey-gooey cheese, but it seemed a little dry.  It was also pretty small for the price.  He also got the brownie sundae and it was about $8.  Seriously??  For a brownie (not even fresh/soft), with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream and sprinkles???? Btw, burgers are a la carte.  My husband got a burger, and had to add fries... bringing his total to $16.  That's a lot for a burger & fries!  NOTE to Doc P's: please serve all burgers with fries and make life easier for the rest of us. With all that being said, it was a cozy place for a nice meal with family.  The burgers were absolutely delicious.  My husband and I got the same one, but his was a double and looked way better!  Cheese dripping all over the place.  My cheese was almost non-existent. Prior to hiking on the Stowe Recreational Path, we had a lazy lunch at Doc Ponds, and this was probably one of the highlights of our Vermont trip. Doc Ponds offers a large selection of local and international craft beers (even offering Dieu du Ciel, a Québec brew) and a straightforward but delightful gastropub menu. My husband had the crispy chicken burger (served with delicious paprika crisps) and I had the cheddar fritters with a lettuce salad. It was gorgeous, and being French, we have pretty high standards about our food. We also got one of the IPAs, which was fantastic, and a watermelon shandy. The service was equally delightful and our waiter (Nick?) happily enquired about our stay in Vermont. He was super friendly and true to Vermont's reputation as a welcoming state, made us feel at home for our first stay in Stowe. We even got two neat Doc Ponds stickers with our check. Awesome service And great menu. This was a great place for bar type food and all the employees were helpful and friendly. We had mussels which were delicious!
