Doc Ponds is such a nice dining experience in Stowe. Especially on a day you summit Mt. Mansfield. We were exhausted and hungry!! I had the fried chicken sandwich. Classic and very well done -- crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. My friends ordered the old school calamari as an app. Umm, what do you put in this calamari crack sauce!? It is so good that we kept it around until all the sauce was finished to use as a dip for other things including fries! My partner got an entire dry rub wings for himself as his main and the doc fries are delicious. It's a small menu, which may seem limiting for some folks but each item is made with love. First time visiting Stowe for a snowboarding trip and my husband and I were staying at Golden Eagle Resort. We had arrived later on a Friday night and wanted something close by. Yelp brought us here and were happy we did! Located right on Mountain Rd... great stop after snowboarding for some drinks and food! Food/Brews They have lots of options for local drafts... so definitely try a few of their brews! I went with their Stout which was nice and smooth. My husband got their draft special, which was a Pilsner from Von Trapp Brewing which was only $4! And it was good! Their food is really good too! We ordered a basket of fries with their aioli dipping sauce YUM! I ordered their Doc Burger which had an amazing sauce on it and cooked to my liking. My husband got the Farro Risotto which was light but still creamy, which was very much like a risotto except lighter! I wish I had more room, because they had a bunch of appetizers I wanted to try, like their Smoked Bluefish Dip, Cheddar Fritters and Crispy Chickpeas and more. Next for sure when we're visiting! Wait Time You can reserve your spot on Yelp... it was about an hour wait for us around 8. When we checked in.. it was probably another 20 minute wait... so definitely sign up to reserve your spot so it's not any longer than that. There is a bar area that you can possibly grab a seat, but it was full when we got there. Everyone leaving tho told us it was definitely worth the wait! Parking Parking is tight here... especially if you drive a pickup truck! So if you're within walking distance, definitely walk. For our first dinner in Stowe, we came here since it was highly recommended by our Airbnb hosts. Beverages: Ginger beer, chocolate milkshake with kahlua and vodka, and some beer on draft that my guy doesn't remember the name of, but he remembers enjoying it. I was happy with the ginger beer and milkshake. Food: My guy and I shared a burger and the fried cod taco bowl - both were flavorful. Dessert: we ordered a slice of apple pie to go. It was tasty, but not as good as mine ;) I'm not a fan of keeping the apple peel on, and I like more of a crust than a crumb topping - just my personal preference. Don't worry - we still definitely enjoyed it enough to finish it. Service was friendly, but in Stowe, I haven't met an unfriendly person yet. We'll be back to Stowe and Doc Ponds! read more

Doc Ponds was the first place we tried during a Stowe weekend getaway... and they really set the bar quite high. Every single menu item that we tried was unique and beyond outstanding. We found ourselves comparing every place we tried afterwards to Doc Ponds and nothing measured up. We loved it so much, that we wanted to have our last Stowe meal in Doc Ponds.... making it our first and last meal of the getaway! If you eat meat, try their VT 1/2 chicken. It's probably the best chicken I've ever had. If you don't eat meat, no worries, they have plenty of veg-friendly items that will not disappoint. Why not 5 stars?! -On the first night we ate there, they didn't bring us our leftovers and when we asked about them, the staff said they didn't have it. -Their tap water is on the warmer side. -A bit stuffy in the restaurant.. not pleasant in the summer.
