Okay, I'm here to sing Doc's praises. It's been 3+ years since I'd been here (retired to the PNW) and I was craving good seafood. Doc's delivered, and then some. We were lucky enough to have chosen a "$5 Margaritas" Thursday. And, let me tell you, it's a good, healthy pour for five bucks! A great start. The place is still vibrant, hoppin', clean and friendly. It took a while to get seated - mostly because folks were staying to listen to the live music. They should probably move that downstairs to the bar level so the dining level can stay moving. But, we were seated with a nice view of the sunset on the water so all is good. I order the grilled Mahi Mahi from the specials board. It had a Malibu Mango Rum sauce and pico de gallo on it that was heavenly. The meal also came with rice pilaf and mixed vegetables. They were okay, but that fish made the day. It was moist, flaky and (with that rum sauce) VERY flavorful. Prices are still a bit aggressive, but that fish was above par. That and the great deal on the margaritas made it worthwhile. read more

This was our first time visiting Doc's and we were pleased with the visit. For appetizers we got hush puppies, the egg rolls, and giant pretzel. All of which were very good. Our meals were bacon wrapped shrimp, fried shrimp, cheese burger, peel and shrimp, and crab stuffed flounder. Over all the food was very good. My father in law was a little let down because he visits there often and the bacon wrapped shrimp were tiny compared to all of his other visits. The service was amazing. We will be back. read more

We had dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday, and I cannot say enough good things about our server, Joy. She was truly phenomenal from the moment we sat down. She was warm, genuine, and made everything feel so lovely and celebratory. My mom felt special the whole night and Joy even sang Happy Birthday with us! you could tell she really cared and wanted to make the evening memorable. It's rare to find someone in hospitality who brings that kind of heart to the table, and I'm so thankful we had her as our server on a night that meant a lot to our family. Thank you, Joy! We had a wonderful lunch here. I had stuffed flounder with green beans and rice...it was fresh and delicious! I also had a decadent Pina Colada...yum! My only complaint is they charged to add Tampico to a rim ....come on guys! Great service and food! read more

Came here during a work trip. The best part of this restaurant is the view and family friendly vibes. I was able to snag a table near the window just in time. They had live music, but it was so nosey you could barely hear him. My jalapeño margarita was phenomenal! I had the stuffed grouper and added on fried shrimp. The fish was overcooked, crab stuffing was unpleasantly fishy, green beans were over cooked, and sauce was bland. Shrimp was the best item on the plate. The seafood queso was tasty, just a little on the thick side. The oysters were not great. The service was great and it's evident its family operated, I was happy to support a local business while in town. read more

For starters, we had just come from having a bad experience at another restaurant, so we were in a bad mood. The experience at Doc's definitely fixed that! We had waiting two hours for food at the previous restaurant and left without eating. At Doc's, we were able to wait, be seated and then served our food in less than one hour. There was not a bad place to sit anywhere, but we got lucky with a seat by the dock to watch the sunset. Beautiful! All of the food was fresh and well seasoned. My kids can be picky, even when really hungry, but they had no problem cleaning their plates here. Drink specials, good music and a friendly staff definitely turned our evening around. Doc's is a must visit for evening dinner on the island. As you can imagine, it is seafood/American. Food is pretty decent. So is the service. It's always packed in the summer (South Texas summer = May - September). There can be quite the wait, so come prepared. So why do I highly recommend this place? It's simple - the view! I went to Doc's for the first time on New Years Eve. I started with a drink at the Waterline to watch the sunset on 2023. There was some nice live music to tap your foot to. The old fashioned was on point! I went upstairs for dinner and sat at the bar. There was live music from a nice husband wife duo, that I really enjoyed. I had the Padre Island Shrimp Cocktail Blackened Redfish for dinner and they were excellent! The redfish was delicious I truly enjoyed it and will definitely go back and try some more items on the menu as they all looked really good. The service at both bars downstairs and upstairs was good. This was an unfortunate experience! After waiting for our seat for close to 30 minutes, and were seated, we had to leave. The stench inside was such that it was unbearable. Apparently trash was collected this day and the bins deposited the garbage smell on the pavement and the whole restaurant smelled foul. We did not dare stay and order food because the smell made our party nauseous. The wall fans blowing inside did little to cool the areas because they were so dirty and clogged. It seemed that they had not been cleaned for months, possibly since they were installed. Management should take note and do something to clean their parking area when garbage pickup day rolls around and clean the inside every once and a while. read more

Let me start off by saying how fabulous our waitress was. She memorized the entire catch of the day menu and told us with no problems. VERY IMPRESSIVE! She was quick and stayed in top of things. My girlfriend and I picked this place for dinner after a day at the beach! We arrived on a Saturday evening around 7:30 pm and were told it would be about 45 minutes for a table. While waiting, my girlfriend ordered a Coastal Cooler drink from the bar below. She liked it! We asked for a waterside table and got one. With breathtaking views, we ordered a half dozen oysters on the shell. They were SO FRESH AND DELICIOUS! For our main entrees, I ordered a crab cake platter (which came with a side of coleslaw, hush puppies, and French fries). It was good. My girlfriend ordered a crab stuffed flounder meal which was DIVINE and was topped a poblano crawfish sauce. We found out this was the top selling dish!! I highly recommend it!! ambience was cool, live entertainment was nice. the fries were pretty good. that was the good part i got the "ragin cajun burger" and was met with a dry bland burger with ridiculously cut tomato and onion, literally uneven chunks of vegetables shoved into a burger. the poblano sauce and fries was the only redeeming factor we also got the queso, ceviche and cheese curds as appetizers. queso and curds? 8/10 it's cheese what could go wrong. the ceviche however, quite literally a bowl of par boiled shrimp smothered in cocktail sauce.....not ceviche in the slightest. service was ok. super friendly staff, very slow service. but it was crowded so definitely giving grace there. to top it all off, do not come here if you're expecting A/C. i'm sweating buckets waiting for mediocre (not to mention overpriced) food. the restaurant has fans dotted around the room and yet it's like i'm still at the beach boiling. I feel bad for the staff, their backs are DRENCHED in sweat and faces red. bathrooms extremely dirty and toilet barely flushed. no further comment i see the potential and the homey vision behind it, but our experience today was anything but positive. give those servers a raise for 10/10 attitude. read more

Great location, great views and very friendly staff all make for this place to be on your go to list if you're in the area. We were seated right away and by the water which was awesome because, for the time of year, there was a nice breeze and not too many insects around. It got pretty busy once we were there awhile but we didn't wait too long to be serviced or checked out. The food came out hot and fresh and the cups stayed refilled. I didn't prefer the coleslaw but everything else was delicious and a nice last meal for our trip. read more

You can't beat the view while enjoying your meal. If out on a date I do recommend trying to gain a table by the view of the dock. If not the ambiance is not the best for a date but great for a gathering of friends as you all listen to local music and enjoying some great frozen drinks. The food is better than your average dish as we got the seasoned red fish as part of the Catch of the Day. A little over seasoned and overcooked but definitely had that fresh seafood taste. Highly recommend the bacon wrapped shrimp as an add on to any dish. Payton was a great server and did her best to check on us as we waited for our meal. Waited for an hour to be seated and then another half hour after ordering our meal. If your starving I suggest grabbing an appetizer. Fried clams were great. Prices are very high but I assume it's the location you're paying for. Food took quite awhile to arrive. Fish sandwich left a lot to be desired. The fish was thin and left me wondering where the fish was as it was just breading. The bread of the sandwich was very thick. My husband had the stuffed flounder and he loved the rice but I felt the sauce was incredibly overpowering. They completely forgot to input my son's chicken dish and we had to sit and wait for it to arrive and wait for him to eat. Needless to say, they rushed making it and it lacked flavor. First timers and everyone was very accommodating and were very patient with all the questions asked. Hubby and I went for lunch and looks like we just missed the rush annnd just beat the rush. We were able to get the perfect sitting area (after a request was made, because it was still dirty - ppl just left) The view was magnificent!! AJ was our server and gave great recommendations. We learned that you could sit in the lower level and take your furry friend, but that level is for to go orders only (no waiter type service). We came by car but also saw ppl come by boat!! (Winning!) I believe the manager asked how we were doing and after asking him about the numerous tugboats passing by he took his time explaining the route/channel and what was going on. Spending our 20th anniversary in town and thought we tried to share an entree so that we could save room for dessert lol We had: Bacon Wrapped Shrimp - delicious!! If you like the outdoors, then this is an excellent place to dine. Bringing the outdoors into the innards along with the heat in the dead of May, this place offered a variety of fried seafood goodness. The service was excellent and it was quite busy, a short wait and voila fried heaven. We had the Fried flounder along with crab cakes, and a seafood queso. Delish!! Fries, under the freshly fried HOT seafood...not a good choice as it left them soggy. Highly recommend the key line pie. read more

Can we give more than 5 stars??? We had lunch here on a Friday, so it wasn't very crowded. Sat on the deck so we could watch the pelicans and gulls and boats in the Laguna Madre. We both had Parmesan-crusted Mahi-mahi in a lemon-butter sauce over rice and served with seasoned fresh green beans. Hands-down, the BEST fish we've ever eaten, ANYwhere!!! I didn't want to be finished with mine, it was that delicious! My husband got a side of fried oysters too, and they were very fresh. My drink of choice? A very tasty piña colada--had some toasted coconut on top. Yum!!! Highly recommend Doc's! Our server was wonderful too! EDIT: We ate lunch here again on Sunday (our 46th anniversary) just after they opened. Hubby and I both had fried shrimp, plus he added fried oysters. This was a great place for dinner with our family. I also recommend it to be a GREAT place to take your date :) The only reason I had to take one star off is because the food wait time takes FOREVER!!!!! Lol we ordered just chips and salsa and some hush puppies for an appetizer and they literally came out an HOUR later. Probably longer. And to make it even crazier the restaurant was slightly empty. Well once our food came out it was kinda worth the wait. We were all STARVING to even care. I will say we did get a great sunset view on the deck. It was amazing to watch. My seafood salad was very delicious and fresh and the dressing made it even more tasty. Oh and I highly recommend the clam chowder it was extremely delicious. Even though the salsa came out very late it has a flavor that makes you want more. Oh and the fresh peel and eat shrimp are super fresh as well. I did let the server know we were unhappy with our drinks, and she did nothing about it, other than offer us some different drinks with the same problems. Drinks that we didn't even drink and we still paid for. Corona was flat, the crown royal apple and sprite was flat, the drinks all tasted weird...The food was cold. We were driving through and decided to drop in to try this place. It was a nice bayside style restaurant with open air patio, great view of the bay and fantastic food. Bonus was live music! The fried flounder and steak was absolutely delicious. Great place for a date family or friends. Wonderful service as well! My friend and I arrived for supper we were seated promptly. The The waitress greeted us with a smile and took our order. We ordered the SouthTexas egg rolls as an appetizer and the Entree my friend had the shrimp plate with Cole slaw, French fries and hushpuppies. I had the Flounder with Cole slaw, French fries, and hushpuppies. The entire meal was absolutely delicious except for the hushpuppies for me and my friend we both agreed they were very hard as though they should have been tossed but were served. A restaurant's reputation is on every plate that is served. The other issue I had is that we were seated very close to the entertainer and he was singing and he was very good and loud, so loud that it was difficult to hear my friend. The person who seated us should have known this. I do not like to complain and I should have told the guy who seated us that this would not work, I should have told the waitress the stale hushpuppies were not acceptable but I did not, like I said I do not want to complain.
