My family and I just ate Doc's for the first time tonight....wow! This place is amazing for so many reasons. The food is fresh, flavorful, and healthy. I highly recommend the Bermuda bowl with shrimp, fried rice, and cabbage slaw. We also got a side of plantains and fresh squeezed lemonade. The owner is super nice! This is a great addition to the Roanoke food scene. We will be going back weekly (if not more!). So...go to Doc's. You won't regret it! read more

I purchased the Bermuda bowl spicy with shrimp, the Calypso bowl spicy with shrimp , jerk chicken and pork platter and large side of broccoli stir fry!!!!!!!! Omg it was banging!!!!! The greens and cabbage is absolutely awesome, but that pork and he advised me that it was good though I'm not a big pork guy. That pork is outerworld!!!! A Hidden Gem that shouldn't remain hidden!!! I had the chicken jerk plate and it was all cooked on the spot fresh. Flavors were amazing as was the rice and beans I had with it. A new restaurant opened in Roanoke today. It's a tiny little place (so small there's no real indoor seating) called Doc's Street Grill. It does Caribbean food, and it does it SO well! I had the jerk shrimp and pork platter, and it was unbelievably good. Follow it up with a Jamaican ginger beer, and be prepared for an experience like no other. This is really good food, at a surprisingly low price (the platter, ginger beer and a bottle of pineapple ginger soda was $20). The owner is so nice and a very gracious host. So we have been customers for a while, I grew up eating Jamaican food (mainly jerk) in Los Angeles and my husband is completely new to Caribbean food. While it's missing traditional rice and peas, he offers greens and cabbage that never disappoints. I also don't miss the traditional rice and peas due to his island rice flavor. If we could go weekly my husband would he loves the dry mild calypso wings and red beans, my 3 yo always eats all the chicken or shrimp and island rice. We always support locals, Doc's owner knows his customers and also gives an accurate wait time. The food also reheats well. Try it you won't regret! read more

We had driven by a number of times and finally stopped today to try this new grill. We were not disappointed! The food is amazing! We had shrimp, veggies, fried rice, and plantains. It was so flavorful. The plantains were absolutely delicious and I can't wait to have them again. I am looking forward to trying the pork next time. The only negative to our visit was the wait was a little lengthy, but the owner was so gracious and apologetic about it. There was a number of orders all going in at the same time and we felt like this was not the normal wait time. It will definitely not deter us from visiting again. Great job Doc's! read more

Tucked away spot serving up authentic, fresh Island food let me tell ya. I opted for the Calypso bowl and got the fried yellow rice, with chicken and cabbage stir fry mild spice flavor. The worst customer service! Tried to order take out over the phone and the guy didn't know anything about the menu or how to take a order period. He goes and get the cook to answer my question about getting jerk wings. The cook continue to over talk me and wouldn't let me finish my order without him cutting me off. I am sure the food is delicious they seem to have a dedicated following. However, I waited 30 minutes no one greeted me and or even acknowledged us. Unfortunately, we inhaled the curried chicken pattie (ground up curried chicken in a pastry crust) before we could snap a picture but we remembered in time for the jerk chicken and jerk pork. This food was fantastic! The plantains were perfectly sweet. The beans straight out of the islands. The cabbage sauté was tasty and still had just the right amount of crunch. And the island fried rice... there aren't words good enough! On to the meats: the pork was grilled to perfection with fantastic jerk seasonings and slathered in hot sauce (we ordered the hot option). The chicken was moist on the inside and crispy on the edges in JUST the right places. I actually regret not getting the spicier option. While it certainly wasn't mild by any stretch, I found it much more flavorful and not so spicy a good sweet beverage wouldn't sort. Sadly, we didn't opt to try the lemonade or punch, another regret. We will definitely be back! One thing to keep in mind, this is a small operation. He has limited hours and cooks FRESH when you order. Calling your order in ahead and planning for some lead time on your order (he's great at giving accurate quotes) will make it a much smoother experience. read more

Wow. This place rocks. I thought Doc's grill would be a dive bar or something, so what a pleasant surprise to learn that's it's awesome Jamaican food. I got the jerk chicken with cabbage bowl, aka the calypso bowl. So full of flavor and texture. The yellow fried rice was amazing, the stir fried cabbage, kale and carrot combo rocks and the tender chicken was full of flavor. The large bowl is going to feed me twice for about $13. The guy working there was friendly. They were okay. Even though the days wasn't too hot outside, it was hot inside, they should fix the AC in there I feel sorry for the worker(s) we ordered two chicken bowls.. But they tasted very strongly of shrimp. Even smelled of it. Also there was only a very small amount of chicken and the rest rice. I would expect more meat for the price we paid... I would have probably given another star, but they should find a method of cooking the chicken that doesn't cross contaminate the shrimp into it. It was very strongly tasting of shrimp and I didn't order shrimp because I am not big on the taste of shrimp but there might as well have ordered shrimp since that was the general taste in my chicken bowl.
