I used them once a few years ago and once again recently. My recent experience was much worse than my last one. When they returned my table, they had chipped off two pieces at opposite side of the center tables and there was a gouge in one of the legs. The legs were also returned completely loose (vs. being tightened down when sent off). They didn't disclose any of the damage and largely went silent after I reported it (stopped responding to emails). I don't like leaving negative reviews but I'd just be careful if you're indexing on prior experiences. read more

Have been using Dr. Teak for a couple of years now. They did a good job. But this last time, I paid a great deal extra ($!,600!) to refinish 2 Sutherland chairs, which they picked up and didn't return for several weeks. Within 4 months the chairs were showing mildew. I've had these chairs for 20 years -- and never had a problem. They also neglected to sand them properly, and didn't seal them at all. So, now I have to have them redone. Same with a chair that again cost $800 (one chair and ottoman) -- which received a different stain and seal. This time they sealed, but within 5 months it's now showing signs of deteriorating. Walter from this company is an absolute nightmare. He is so unprofessional and I cannot believe a company would allow him to be the first point of contact for them. Rude, unnecessarily aggressive and lost my business becuase apparently I am not allowed to challenge him when it comes to terms of payment (why not pay upon delivery of furniture WITH a credit card on file)? Do not use these guys. They tried to do a bait and switch on our service invoice. When I called to try and understand, they were argumentative. I used them once last year, planned to do the yearly maintenance that was supposed to be 1/2 the price but they quoted the full price. Then said needs to be every 6 months for a discount. Frustrating and something feels off with them in general. Our neighbor used to use them and said similar experiences lately. The work initially was ok but not great. Not worth it and dishonest business practices. Beware. Update; the owner called me last week to apologize. Good thing for yelp. Albert arrived at my home this morning at 7:30 and immediately got to work on my old weathered teak patio set. It was gray and dirty and looked unloved. He power-washed it all, dried and sanded it, and offered me a choice of finishes. He did all the staining work by hand, no sprayer, and rubbed it in carefully and expertly. Albert was friendly, neat in his wor area and professional. I highly recommend Teak Doctor. This close to the beach, my teak furniture takes a beating in spite of covering it. Absolutely fantastic! We have a large amount of Ipe decking and siding at out house. After 15 months, the wood started to age as is normal and took on a gray finish. We wanted the original finished look back, so I looked for somebody to refinish it. After interviewing and meeting with a few companies, we settled on Dr Teak, and we couldn't be happier. They were great to deal with before the project. Their price was competitive, and the job was done on time. The manager even came back to inspect the job a few days after it was done and sent the workers back to touch up a few areas (I couldn't tell that anything needed to be done, but apparently they want it all to be perfect). We used Dr. Teak for the first time today. They were terrific. It started to rain in the middle of their work and they started working under our outdoor umbrella. But, they told us that they would stop work and come back another day if they thought they couldn't do a quality job. Luckily the rain stopped and they were able to finish. Our furniture is over 10 years old and they look like new. We had another company refinish our furniture when we lived in Los Angeles and Dr. Teak's work is a lotbetter and my husband looked at our records and Dr. Teak even charged less. I had a scheduled service today at my house and due to the rain the work could not get finished. I called Walter the sales manager to ask him if they could take the furniture and finish it at the warehouse and he quoted me $300 additional dollars to ship and deliver. This company is not customer service based, I felt like Walter was argumentative the entire time acting like he was giving me a deal when in reality he had no knowledge of what the actual pricing was. Was not accommodating to the fact that my service was urgent and charged me a cancellation fee. He was very dismissive. I called Teak Master and despite the fact that they are booked until Mid December they offered free shipping and delivery tomorrow with a promise to return the furniture by Thanksgiving. It's disappointing that this company acts like they are doing you a favor when in reality you are providing business. Will never work with this company again. read more

I called them out for an estimate two years ago. I remember it being expensive and our furniture was fairly new so I put it off. I just called them back to get the work done and they never called me back. I tried again and was told that I had been flagged as someone they didn't want to work with. I used Dr. Teak (and had Jordan as my rep) for one of my client's indoor table from Restoration Hardware. Restoration Hardware made numerous mistakes (which I will not get into for this review) however Jordan was on top of everything, he took my numerous calls & e-mails, updating my client and I of what was going on from RH end and contacted RH directly (without me telling him) trying to solve the problem and getting the correct table to be delivered to him. After Dr. Teak got the correct table, he and the owner tried to accommodate my client's schedule, squeezed and finished the table on time for her coming party. He finished the table on time and when it was delivered my client said "the finish looks amazing and made the whole look" . The customer service of Dr. Teak and Jordan was amazing and unheard of. I am truly a FAN of Dr. Teak and will be a lifetime client. So after things went sideways with the customer service side of the company, Chris personally came to my home. I shared some of my concerns with him and he took the time to listen. He took the coffee table back with him and had his guys fix it all up. Let's start off with how happy I am with Doctor Teak. The people who work at Doctor Teak were terrific and I am really happy that I found them. The process from beginning to end was amazing. I needed to get some patio furniture refinished and ran across Doctor Teak. I gave them a call to get a proposal and spoke to David (Sales Associate), who was very helpful, very professional and very polite. He was able to get me a proposal within a day or two and it came out to be a very great price compared to the other quotes that I received. Once I got it approved, I was put in contact with Mike who helped schedule the work to be done and was able to answer all my questions immediately. My calls were answered right away and my emails responded to within a couple of hours. The day for the work to be done came and Juan was early for our appointment. When are any vendors on time, let alone early. Once the work was done, the first comment I got was, "the teak furniture looks great!" What can I say except the whole process was wonderful. Everyone I talked to or who was part of this process made everything go smoothly. Great customer service. Dr Teak did it again! 5 Star Service!! Our loungers lasted 4 years from our last refinishing. Note-we keep them covered and clean year-round. We called Dr Teak to schedule our refinishing and Fredy showed up not on time, but early! Fredy is the best technician we've had so far. He has a very sweet quiet respectful disposition. He protected our property from the stain, cleaned up during and after the job and did an amazing job! He also took his time to completely sand the loungers and restain them and his hard work shows in the finished product. You can't go wrong with Dr. Teak. BTW, we called Teak Master for a quote and #1 we had to call 3x before anyone returned our calls and #2 their proposal was 15% more than Dr Teak. These guys are great! We have a ten year old Restoration Hardware set of outdoor teak patio furniture, couches, chairs, table and dining chairs and all of it looked just trashed. We had never maintained it. When we painted the house and cleaned the patio, it suddenly looked even worse. So we called Dr. Teak after finding them online. Wow. A crew of five guys showed up with sanders and some kind of cleaning blaster and spent about five hours here. Then they left with the cushions. Cushions just came back and it all looks like a brand new set of furniture. Actually, it looks better than it did because the finish somehow looks like a deeper color. Anyway, strongly recommend doing this! Good guys. Seemed very reasonable for the amount of time and the work. It is too bad there's not space for a photo which would really make the point. They all seemed like guys who have been doing this for a good amount of time. So glad I didn't have to buy new furniture! No complaints! read more

i have used dr teak for my furniture for three years now. they do great work, and they pick up and deliver to san diego. i have a rather complicated chinese opium bed, which comes apart into many pieces. dr teak has done an excellent job of refinishing the bed, and the delivery guys are extremely careful and helpful when taking it apart and putting it back together. nothing but good experiences working with dr teak. read more

Dr. Teak refused to stand behind their workmanship and in addition they are rude and nasty. In addition to doing a bad wood refinishing job on our ipe deck--which was unevenly sanded and the stain was incorrectly applied-negligent application of masking tape resulted in paint being removed from adjacent metal areas. This company refused to acknowledge their poor workmanship or to make corrections. Dr. Teak refinished the outdoor teak furniture in the common areas of our shopping center, 8000 Sunset. The teak was in poor condition. The furniture has stainless steel decorative inserts. Dr. Teak did a fabulous job restoring the teak to look brand new with a rich walnut tone finish. They also coordinated their work with a company to refinish the stainless steel for us.
