Hired Doheny to move some pipes. First off, Brian did an great job with the work, he's a great plumber and really knows his stuff. I rarely leave bad yelp reviews but in this case felt the need to do so. The problem I had was with the opaque billing and heavily inflated cost for parts. When the job was complete we were billed $500 for parts in addition to $1600 labor and nothing was itemized in the receipt. We did the math on the parts which in no way added up to $500. When we spoke with Steve to get a break down, we were very surprised at how high he was marking everything up. $20+ for a fitting (maybe $5 at Home Depot), $80 for 3/4" copper pipe (~$35 Home Depot) and the list went on. We did a few part runs for them to their supplier so we knew what they were paying for these things which is partly why we were so surprised. When we spoke to Steve about it he seemed upset and defensive that we'd bring it up said it was just part of the business (in addition to the $135-160 hourly rate). I have no problem paying the hourly, and a modest markup for parts - but 200% over retail (400% over his cost) seemed excessive. read more

Very dissatisfied with Doheny Plumbing! They charged $450+ and didn't even fix the problem...said it was trial and error and could cost up to $900 more. However, this was trial and error process was not disclosed up front-only after the initial "try" did not work. In another case, they suggested a major change to our shower and my husband was able to fix for under $20, We will never use Doheny again! read more

We called three plumbers on the Saturday before Xmas to get a quote for six small jobs (slow drains, broken toilet, broken soap dispenser) we'd let pile up. Over the weekend, we got one quote for $500 and had not heard from another. Doheny called at 8:00 Monday morning and quoted $180-250. By 10:00 Monday morning the entire job was done and the bill was $200. We would highly recommend David and will use Doheny Plumbing again. read more

After I called the day before to verify my appointment he told me unappologetically that he never scheduled it and that it was unavailable. Now I have to request another day off from work and explain the terrible customer service. I was experiencing a cold water line leak in my garage and called Doheny upon the recommendation of my HOA. Since water lines are a bit of a maze in my condo building, the HOA assured me that Doheny plumbers could determine which unit the water line serves. Both operators I spoke to were very kind and efficient. However, when I spoke to the plumber Brian at 7 PM, he gave me as many reasons as possible to not have him come out. Pinhole leaks are the responsibility of the homeowner, he would have to charge time and a half, he would have to collect a check, the water lines are intermingled between units, the shut off valve shuts water off to the entire building of ten units, (all of which I am aware of), and no, he may not be able to determine who's water line it is that is leaking. He was condescending, patronizing and clearly didn't want to come out. read more

I had a leak in the copper pipe at the house shut off valve. I discovered it a few days ago and seemed to be getting worse. I received a return call from Doheny in about 20 minutes and they sent Brian who arrived about 90 minutes later. I asked him to replace the shutoff valve also. It is a cramped work area with sprinkler and gas pipes right there. Bryan was great. He finished the job and checked for any other leaks including toilets. My bill was $426.39 including 2.5 hours of labor and (this is interesting) a $40 "TOS" charge. That stands for truck on site. I don't think I've ever been charged that before and sounds very creative . All in all I was pleased to get the work done expeditiously. I live in San Clemente. read more

Doheny plumbing came recommended through my contractor who saw them do an awesome job before. Time will tell if that is the case for the work they finished for me today. What I really don't like about them, is the way I was charged. First, they refused to give me a quote for the work and said they work per hour ($165 per first hour and thereafter $145/h). Then, I was dragged into useless conversations about where to place the sink and so on and the guy had to see sink (although I told him that this was the contractor job, not him, he had to place a clean out and my contractor will do the rest). I called my contractor to have this conversation with him, as I sensed, the guy was just dragging time. Anyways, when the contractor came in 15 minutes, the guy from Doheny abandoned what he was telling me and just went with the simple obvious solution (as he knew he cannot pull that with a contractor). Then, he left to buy material for a whole hour for which I was charged in time. So, in the end, for 2-3 hour work (unclog drain and place cleanout on it as well as camera inspection of drain) I ended paying $791.10. He came in knowing they are placing a cleanout, but did have the material they needed for it, making me pay for material as well as a whole hour he left to get it! So, I recommend this company for people who don't really care about their money! I do! read more

I called Doheny Plumbing because we had a nasty grease buildup in our kitchen drain line. We have an indoor clean out, so the repair required something more than a snake, it required hydrojetting. One plumber claimed the line was broken, and brought cameras to look into the grease (good luck). One plumber diagnosed the problem correctly but could not jet out the line as he had no equipment. A company specializing in jetting refused to do the job, claiming it would make a big mess in our kitchen. Doheny Plumbing sent out Jarod and Tim, who promptly, professionally and throughly solved our backup problem, with minimal interior backup which was easily contained with no mess, much less damage, in our kitchen. We had used them last year, and so thought that we would call them when our kitchen faucet corroded to weekend. I called today for an appointment, and tried to get an appointment for Wednesday. My wife and I both work, so we have someone at the house, but it's not a house owner. The only time that we could be there is on the www lends, which, of course, if their emergency rates. We have had a housesitter work with other contractors and workers before without a problem. However, this was not good enough for doheny plumbing. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Doheny Plumbing came to fix a leak under our kitchen sink. They changed a part and charged us almost $200. Three weeks later, the leak was back. I called and was told over the phone (prior to them coming to look at it again) that it will cost between $250 and $300. They obviously don't guarantee their work and they make assumptions before even taking another look. Another company assessed the problem correctly and it was an easy fix, no other parts needed replacing. I will never use this company again. Had a 75 gallon water heater installed. When our house got inspected I was informed it wasn't to code. Dohney told me they knew the code changed but used the material from the old one. One would think if I paid $1600 for the water heater a few more dollars to bring it to code wouldn't be a issue. Freaking lazy and incompetence. I called because my garbage disposal didn't work. I was told it was shot and it would cost over $500 to replace. I said no thank you that that was just too much money. I called someone else out who stuck a broom handle in the disposal, moved the blades a bit and found a rock and a small spoon. Removed those two items and disposal works good as new!! these guys are horrible. I used them to try and keep the business in town. They charged me $165 for a half hour job of putting a faucet in my kitchen. 6 days later the faucet did not work and they would not even come out to see why without charging me a "trip charge". They said over the phone, without even looking at it, that it was a defective faucet. When i went to Lowes to get a new one, the manager called Doheney and was absolutely shocked that they would not even go to my house to see why the faucet was not working, but rather just diagnosed it over the phone. I had a plumbing emergency disaster; faulty plumbing (previously done by someone else), a flooding house, and broken pipes. I immediately called Doheny Plumbing in a panic as water poured into my house. The owner Sandy was so calm and reassuring, told me what to do, and sent a plumber out immediately. What a lovely lady! Their plumber explained what the problems were and how to fix the situation in a way I could understand, and made me feel much calmer and confident in their work. Since I had such a mess to contend with, I subsequently had their plumbers working at my house for days. They were always on time, cleaned up after themselves, and were very polite and freindly. They were very efficient, professional, offered fair prices, and made my very stressful situation a calm one which I couldn't have been happier with. We were quoted $150.00 for a drain clog and when the job was finished, the bill was $245.00. The scum bag manager I spoke with said it took him longer than expected and added a mileage fee (I'm only 4 miles from them). By the way, it took them less time to finish the job then originally told. I will never ever use these guys again. RIP OFF!!!!! read more

I used Doheny Plumbing for over 10 years. I thought they have always been fair until the job they did a couple of weeks ago. We had a leak under the kitchen sink. They showed up on time as always. The guy found the leak in 5 minuets, it was a small quick disconnect fitting to our Grohe faucet. It is only about 2 inches long and made of plastic. He went to the supply house and retuned within 25 minuets with the part. It took him another 10 minuets to put in the new part so total time so far was about 40 minuets, as he was going to write up the bill he told me the part was like $95.00. I said how much and he said $95.00. To say the least I was totally shocked. The total bill came to $238.20 How could such a little thing cost so much, somebody is screwing somebody. Also when they tell a service call is $125.00 its actually $155.00, they don't mention a $30.00 charge for truck. After he was gone I went on line to see if I could find the little part for less $$. I did, and I actually bought one as a spare, cost me $41.00 delivered. So they over doubled what it cost them. NOW IF THAT IS NOT SCEWING A CUSTOMER I DON"T KNOW WHAT IS. Good buy to Doheny Pluming.
