Well, I don't know what changed but this is like a completely different restaurant now for months! Staff attentive and spectacular. The inside appears renovated and they accept large parties! So win for all of that. Food has seen a definite upgrade too. Cheese curds and literally anything else we've ordered has been fantastic. Kind people work here! It gets packed but our wait which was told to be 20 mins took only 10. The food is delicious. We had their fish and chips and shepherds pie. Kiddo has chicken tenders. Went for St Patty's Day. To order food for just one person it was apparently over 2 hour wait. Sat outside so I could get faster service there was only one heater working. A gentleman at a at another table ended up getting the heater working, not even the staff offered to help get it to work. The man got it to work probably an hour into dining so it was pretty cold out. Ended up getting the fish and chips which was mainly just a flaky coating on top of the thin slice of fish. It was very greasy. The fries are mediocre At best. The potato leek soup was actually good and so were the greenbeans. The waitress was very nice and considering how busy it was, she did a pretty good job at keeping up with the tables. A great Irish pub for a mid afternoon meal on Sunday . My wife, grandson and myself, while enjoying the spinach artichoke appetizer. My wife and grandson ordered the fish and chips, I ordered the shepherds pie. The Shepard pie is so good I rarely order anything else. Sunday the panthers are playing in the big screen. Unfortunately they are not as good as the fish and Shepard pie. Friendly quick service in a short bday. The hot was all served warm and appealing. Having been a fan of the Cary location for years, this was my first visit to the Apex location and I found it wonderfully low-key and less crowded. Their meatloaf is amazing with the whiskey peppercorn gravy, green beans, and mashed potatoes. I would always order that. It is the best meatloaf I've ever had. We also got a French onion soup, which is delicious. The buffalo chicken fingers are also excellent with the blue cheese dip. read more

This place turned out to be a great late-dining surprise! We had just attended the Lantern Festival in Cary, in that time between Christmas and New Years. We needed somewhere to eat before heading back to Greensboro. Yelp discovered this pub, and the menu looked interesting! It was after 9pm and we were a little concerned at first because we didn't see a host or a waiter for a bit. Thankfully an upbeat waitress did eventually appear, seat us, got us drinks, and the whole thing went swimmingly from there. She really turned things around. We ordered the brisket Poutine and the Boxty sampler as apps. They were both good, I wish we could have had even more of their super flavorful gravy. The brisket was tender, which honestly given that it was the end of the day I found very impressive. The Boxties were awesome, it had been several years since I last had a boxtie of any kind. For dinner, me and my wife split a seasonal sandwich, a turkey bacon avocado thing of a sort. It was real good, but our friends sandwich featuring more of that slow cooked brisket and corned beef was the winner. Can't remember the exact name of it, but it was highlighted on the menu as a house specialty. Overall, very impressed that a skeleton staff at a later time where the crowd was just mostly having drinks delivered a quality meal to us. Hubby and I along with his brother stopped in for a couple beers and appetizers while we waited on our sister-in-law to meet us after work. We were seated immediately and looked over the drink menu. I decided on a Guinness while they both chose Smithwicks. We did a second round and also ordered Buffalo boneless wings and the Irish egg rolls. The beer was great! Guinness is my absolute favorite and they know how to pour a proper pint. The Irish egg rolls were excellent. Crispy on the outside, filled with lots of corned beef, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Their thousand island dressing was yummy. The buffalo boneless wings were very good. Classic Buffalo flavor, sauced well, juicy chicken. Amazing blue cheese as well. I ordered a six piece order of wings plain as I don't like spicy sauces etc. The wings were good size and cooked well. This came with carrots and celery and a side of blue cheese. The fish was crispy and plentiful. Service was very slow all evening. We all had one drink and were never asked if we wanted a second. The bread pudding was a bit dry, so I wouldn't order that again. The brussel sprouts were so crispy yet soft and wonderful tasting, the best ever! The fish, I don't even know how to compliment the fish it was that good! I've had fish and chips all over the U.S, and this was the most delicious thing ever! Soft and tasty on the inside but the light crunch on the outside was perfect! If you're ever in Apex and craving a seriously good burger, Doherty's Irish Pub & Restaurant is where you need to go. We dropped in for dinner this weekend, and as usual, Doherty's delivered. The burgers? Absolutely incredible--juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. I went with sweet potato fries and a Caesar salad on the side, while my wife tried the garlic olive oil green beans. Both were delicious, but those burgers were the star of the show. We decided to skip dessert and went for an Irish coffee instead--such a great choice! It was the perfect, cozy way to end the meal. What really made our night, though, was our server, Brad. He's originally from Texas and brought that warm, friendly vibe with him. Brad was fantastic--super friendly, on top of everything, and really made sure we had a great time. He knew the menu well, checked in with us just the right amount, and added a lot of personality to our experience. Doherty's in Apex is definitely our favorite spot. We visited this cute Irish Pub and Restaurant on 1/11 and 1/16/2025. The first visit was with our 9 months pregnant daughter and her husband. We were seated quickly and Betsy E. Introduced herself as our server. She was great, providing recommendations and taking our drink order. Soon after we placed our orders. I had the pastrami rueben, hubby and daughter the potato leek soup, son in law the shepherd's pie dinner version. Everyone enjoyed their food. The 2nd visit it was just myself and my hubby. I had the pick two lunch combo which was 1/2 corned beef rueben and 1/2 a caesar salad. Oh my gosh. One of the best corned beef Rueben's!! The caesar salad was excellent too. Dressing was home made and wonderful. Johnny had the lunch portion of shepherds pie. Not a large dish but excellent. During our visit we met "Steve", owner/manager we aren't certain but we visited awhile with him insuring our satisfaction with the food and service. Both exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Doherty's as a restaurant for families, drinks out, and date night, business lunches etc. we will be back on our next visit. Ask for Betsy. read more

This is my FAVORITE irish restaurant in the triangle. All the locations are great but the staff at this location is next level. The manager and her staff are so warm, fun and attentive. I like that this location has some fun events throughout the week. The food is always amazing and definitely great if you're looking for some comfort food. Our favorites are the bangers and mash, shepard's pie, brisket poutine and fish and chips. The fish in the fish and chips is MASSIVE so keep that in mind when deciding between the half or full. Doherty's has the best Fish and Chips in the Triangle. I don't even think any other place that sells Fish and Chips can compete. I've tried food from rtheir foodtruck, but specifically came to the Apex location for the 4th of July celebration and I was simply amazed at how family friendly it was! My one start dock is because their service was slow. They were attentive to tell us they were running behind though. Also for a family friendly pub it's pretty clean. Our server was awesome, helped us get some yummy celebratory non-alcoholic mocktails, and was on top of refilling our waters. Very polite and helpful with our questions as well. And this is a legit Irish pub--for the alcohol drinkers out there, they had a full menu of drinks, including like thirty different beers and thirty or so different whiskeys. For the past 3 years after moving to NC we have gone to Troli for our Irish food. NEVER AGAIN. Doherty's was quieter, more comfortable, had better service (our waitress was awesome - thx Abigail!, and the food was 100% better. I have been coming to this place since it opened in Apex several years ago. Generally speaking, the service is good and the food, for what it is, is also good. No complaints. I'm half Irish so I can't bitch about the bland Irish diet lol The big negative for me was I brought a date into the Apex location earlier this year. it was a Thursday night and not super busy and there was one big cluster of people at one end of the bar where the bartender was hanging out. We sat quite a ways down the bar in the empty side and sat for 10 minutes, waiting for the bartender to walk over and ask us what we wanted to drink. As I grew inpatient, I had to call her to come over to us to take our order and I asked her if she had forgotten about us and she made a smirky grin and didn't respond. She was very engaged in very dynamic conversations with everybody else in the bar and completely ignored us. We gave her our drink order, she returned and delivered it without paying a Word, walked right back down to the other end of the bar. She never came back to us until I called her again for a second round and at that point I changed my mind and asked for a check and left - not the kind of customer service that a place like that is known for good service should have. read more
