I came in 2022 and had a very poor experience that kept me away from eating at Dok Khao again. however, i'm relieved to say that my most recent experience was much better. the first time I dined here, service was slow. food came out after over 25 minutes of waiting (while i was one of the only customers present). and, the food itself was lackluster for the price. the second time around, our server was very hospitable and efficient. our food came out quickly, though they served our dessert first which was very strange. i ordered the lychee duck curry, and it was very good! an interesting and unique mixture of sweet savory flavors. i also tried other ppl's dishes; drunken noodles tasted great but were a bit too oily, and the pad thai was also great. IMO, the portions were still too small for the price. but im glad that Dok Khao found its footing. this is some great local Thai and an overall strong addition to the new Merriweather district. read more

Came across this "pretty" looking spot on Instagram and we knew here we are going for my wife's birthday dinner . We knew this was a good pick the moment we walked in since there was a 30 min wait on Wednesday night with restaurant being packed! Great ambiance , decorated , beautiful color theme with flowers cant get any better for an birthday ! It Did ! They had the traditional loud celebrations birthday songs with a 2 scoops of firecracker lit ice-cream ! Seemed like there was birthday on every other table. We started off with Tofu wings, honestly weren't great . Just bland fried tofu with sweet sauce. For main course , we tried the Panang Curry with Tofu along with drunken Noodles and Pad Thai . Everything was so flavorful with perfect amount of heat and sweetness. I would highly recommend all three dishes. Definitely going to be a go-to Thai spot in Columbia moving forward! Been here twice. This represents June 2024 in my photo series. The first time I went was in March 2022 when a friend was in town, and we went here to visit his wife's family. I had no appetite, so I barely ate anything and just took the leftovers. Turned out I had gotten the Flu. But I could tell the Thai food was of quality and a nice atmosphere, fancy looking place. The 2nd time I went was a Tuesday in June 2024 with my g/f. We were both impressed with the quality of our Pad Thai. I feel the portions could be more here. I go to some Thai places, and I have enough for 2 meals. Here is just enough for one meal. I was pretty hungry on that Tuesday too though. We like the gold "silver"ware, that's fancy! Server was cordial and was fast. Afterward we ended up going to the worst movie of 2024 (to date) at nearby AMC Columbia, called Tuesday (coincidentally on a Tuesday, just worked out that way for scheduling). We would definitely consider this as a good option. read more

I visited this restaurant for the first time after school, I enjoy thai cuisine so i gave this place a chance :) overall i enjoyed the food and my server was very nice and attentive she even packed my food to go when i had asked for togo boxes. The food was great tho! Pad thai is pad thai haha nothing crazy however the Dok Khao noodles were very delicious and unique i have never had anything like it so i definitely recommend. This place is great! Surprised my kid by treating her to a pre-birthday, birthday dinner! We got the vegetable Pad Si Ew and the Sweet and Sour Chicken dish (this came with white rice on the side). I came here on recommendations from others for the food, atmosphere, and sparklers for the birthday dessert. You have to buy the dessert! The food was fresh, flavorful, and one of the better Pad Si Ew's I have had. This place was very busy, even for early dinner on a random Sunday, every table was filled! This is one of my go to restaurants when I am in the area. They do not take reservations for small groups and there is always a line on the weekends but if you go before 12 pm, you can typically avoid a wait. The restaurant is beautifully decorated to be the quintessential IG restaurant. The servers are always friendly and helpful no matter how packed it gets. Cocktails are beautiful and there are little illustrations of each drink on the menu so you can see if it not only fits your tastebuds but your aesthetic. I got the Khao San Rd last time I went. I would definitely recommend if you like the Thai tea flavor with a bit of tartness and no milk. I really loved it, my friend preferred the kind with milk. For appetizers we usually get the curry puffs and salmon rolls. The curry puffs have what tastes to me like a massamun curry filling and the salmon rolls are cooked salmon, rice, and seaweed deep fried in a tempura batter and topped with tobiko. I would also recommend the duck rolls! This time we also tried the nam tok which we really enjoyed with the bed of salad it is served on. It is also served either sticky rice by the rice was a little dry and not very sticky. For my entree I got the whole Fried Branzino which was enough for 2 people to enjoy. It was served with rice and a sweet soy based sauce. I appreciated that it was served on the side to preserve the crispiness of the fish. It was also extremely sweet so I only took very little. My leftovers packed very well. The server made sure I was able to take every component of my dish home. The reason I gave this place 4 stars is although I love this place, every time I come here I find that most dishes are too sweet. My oh my is the place good!! I'd been hearing so many amazing things about this place and how it stays crowded so we decided to go on a weeknight to hopefully miss the crowd. To our surprise, it was just as crowded as the weekend on a Tuesday night! We were able to be seated right away but the tables were pretty close together so not much privacy between different parties. The interior/decor is so cute and the food is fantastic! As someone who grew up in Thailand, good Thai food has always been a struggle to find so I'm glad I found a place nearby to get my Thai fix. Dok Khao has one of the best Thai noodles I have ever tried. The interior design is also spectacular with lots of greenery and modern decorations. There was plenty of seafood in the noodles, but the kana pork was mid. It lost its crispiness and was a bit dry. I was expecting it to taste crispy and juicy like lechon belly, but it is quite different. However, there were lots of veggies and the sauce was good. I've been a loyal customer here for a long time, usually spending close to $100 every week. Unfortunately, after my most recent order almost two weeks ago, I can no longer support this restaurant. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai, Garden Vegetables, and Spicy Eggplant. Halfway through the meal, I realized the Pad Thai contained pork (not chicken). We do not eat pork for religious reasons, and since all of the food had already been reheated together, the entire $63 order had to be thrown away. Instead of treating this as a customer service matter, the restaurant turned it into a menu debate and only refunded the Pad Thai ...even after initially promising a full refund once I provided the receipt. I went back and forth with them for nearly two weeks over something that should have been resolved immediately. This is unacceptable, especially since many of their customers are Muslim or avoid pork. A restaurant should take extra care with dietary restrictions and customer concerns. For $63, they lost my business and a loyal weekly customer. As a business owner myself, I would never let a situation like this drag out ... a simple refund or credit would have been the right resolution. read more

It was especially nice to see families ice-skating right outside the restaurant which is sandwiched between Blackwall Barn & Lodge and Yoga Six on an abnormally warm Sunday in December. As soon as you entire the restaurant, you're greeted by warm faces and even warmer temperature. The decor was lovely and match the Thai aesthetic. Our food was so flavorful! We started with wings and crab rangoons - perfect portion sizes. We ordered sesame ginger beef and drunken noodles, and chicken fried rice and lo mein for our kiddo. This was my first Thai meal in several years so I didn't remember how powerful a punch the flavor can be. The sesame ginger beef packed a lot of the ginger flavor, almost too much, but the sweetness cut it down a bit for me. My husband loves his drunken noodles and asked for medium heat, which was plenty. Our waiter keep our water filled and checked in often. The food was prepared quickly and correctly. A bunch of us came here for lunch. We were mostly couples but we kind of scattered a bit and sat a lot of men on one side and women on the other as we had not seen each other in awhile and wanted to catch up. That was the first mistake. You see, most of the women were quite familiar with this place while most of the men had never been here. When they say we can't take them anywhere, they mean they won't take us anywhere. Anyway, my side struggled to order our dishes while the women's side knew the exact game plan, which my wife shared with me only on our way home. She and my daughter spoke about how good this and that was and I felt like I missed out and was left hungry! The pictures below are some of the dishes our side had. Can't even imagine how good the women's side were. They came in with a clear mission. As soon as they sat down, the ring leader stated "we are doing this family style." Each person stated their preference and the table they assembled put ours to shame. They tasted every single flavor and texture this place had to offer. The men did something similar but wasn't nearly as organized or well thought out. I mean, listening to my wife and daughter talk about the dishes I have not even glimpses made me think we were at different restaurants. Every dish was exquisite! The flavor and texture were extraordinary. Me, being a pho guy, ordered one of the soup dishes and had 3 small bowls to share with friends. But I have to say, it was good but I still prefer the Vietnamese pho much better. In fact, it was probably the least flavorful dish at the table. Even with all the great dishes, couple stood out. The drunken noodles and the tilapia dish. I could have eaten both of them all day, every day. You can never go wrong with Thai food but this stood out for the fun and flavorful gathering we had. Or we men just need to go out and eat more. On other note, there were like 20 of us and he engaged and educated us about the dishes and when we placed our orders, he didn't write a single item down. And he got every single order perfectly. It came out to each individual. That blew my mind! Either that or they have some communication system with an assistant waiter hovering nearby and writing it down. However they did it, it was flawless and impressive. Do I recommend this place? My friend and I were in the area and really wanted to find something to eat. We found this Thai restaurant and it was an instant yes for me. The reviews were great and the pictures looked really nice. The wait was fast and we were seated immediately. Couple friends joined us later and they had no issues with seating them. I started off with the wings and the fried calamari. The wings were presented very well, but they weren't as good as I expected. The fried calamari was delicious and the sauce that came with it was great. I ordered the seafood drunken noodles and it was great. The server was nice and the food came quickly. This was my third time dining with Dok Khao, and I must admit each time they do not disappoint when is comes to quality of food and robust flavor. This time I wanted to share my experience with family and friends, I decided to take my mother here for Mother's Day. We had a party of 5 and waiting for about 45 minutes as initially told by the hostess. They gave our electronic place in line a texted us when our table was ready, no problem considering the holiday. First off the ambiance is absolutely beautiful. It was giving " regal asian garden, fantasy oasis". There are beautiful chandeliers and floral arrangements hanging from the ceiling. There's even a working water fountain in middle of the restaurant. The place was packed , the design and arrangement of the seating makes it comfortable even still. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating, and patient being that is was my family's first time visiting this restaurant and couldn't easily decide on food ( many yummy choices). I ended up getting the tantalizing Salmon Red Curry medium spice with extra veggies instead of rice. My husband ordered the delicious and mouth watering Crispy Branzino. Of course I had to have a bite of his meal and it was amazing. My dish was amazing too. It was the perfect balance of spice, coconut cream, and citrus flavors, with an earthy under tone of basil that harmonized all of the ingredients together. The salmon was cooked medium to perfection without even having to request, and seasoned very well. The Thai Tea Latte and Matcha are also one of our fav beverages to order. Same quality each time. Other dishes on the table were the Crispy Duck platter, Seafood Lo Mein, and Garden Delight with Shrimp. There were absolutely no complaints about the taste or authenticity of the food. We were all so delighted with our meals that I can't believe I forgot to take photos of the food. I asked my mother if she enjoyed her meal, she told me that she cant wait to come back. Looking forward to visiting again soon with more family and friends. I give it 4 stars only because our server forgot to place my sister-in-laws order in the system, which caused her food come out very late. Whoa this place is legit! Having recently returned for a trip to Thailand, the flavors are definitely authentic (although spice level is nicely turned down for us Americans). This is our second visit and we went early so that we didn't have to wait in line. Our server was very attentive and made suggestions to our orders that were great! For appetizers we had the chive cakes, jacketed shrimp, wonton soup and crab ragoons. Each was delicious and we truly loved the chive cakes. For our meals, my daughter had the whole bronzini, I had drunken noodles with shrimp and spice level 1 and my husband had the sesame beef. Also had a side of fried rice with egg. I love Dok Khao. My friend and I stopped by on a Friday evening around 8:30 and it was packed. It was a 25 minute wait and we were lucky to grab a spot at the bar because I was hangry and couldn't wait. The place is cute and nicely decorated. We had the crispy Salmon rolls to start and shared Pad Thai and Siam Chicken. Everything was AMAZING! The Siam Chicken was my favorite...everything was delicious and flavorful, even the rice. The Pad Thai was good too. It wasn't dry and flavor was solid. Portions are a good size too. I'll be back again soon for some more Siam Chicken. read more

Way too noisy for us and it was on a weekday too. Salmon rolls were good but overpriced. Curry was very good but the Pork was very chewy and grisly. Crispy Basil Pork (belly) was more fat than meat. As a Thai food connoisseur, I am always excited to try new Thai restaurants. This place was absolutely packed for a Wednesday night, so a good sign to me even if we had to wait a few minutes! The inside was also decorated so vibrantly-- I loved the bright green walls and the foliage-filled dining room. So the vibes were definitely there, but now I needed to know if the food lived up to the hype. Onto the food! We started with the Crab Rangoons to split. These were fried to perfection with a decent amount of both crab and cream cheese filling. Usually the crab meat isn't as noticeable but you could definitely taste it with these. And the highlight of these rangoons was definitely the dipping sauce-- such a delicious sweet and sour sauce! For our entrees, we went with the Drunken Noodles and the Green Curry. These Drunken Noodles were soft, chewy, and bursting with flavor. The noodles were so wide and thick and absorbed the rich flavors of the sauce and spice mixture so well. The Green Curry was the perfect thickness (not too thin at all) and was also packed with such yummy flavor. With both entrees, you could taste the hints of sweetness so well and that sweetness coalesced with the other umami flavors so perfectly. I also loved the presentation of both entrees. Overall, this Thai food did not miss at all. And the staff was super friendly. I definitely want to come back and try more menu items, especially the fun cocktails and yummy looking specials they offer. Everyone really loves Dok Khao Thai because it is packed every time I go. It also has over the top decorations and I love it. The staff is very nice and efficient. Tonight was a Tuesday. My mom and I started at the bar for happy hour. Happy hour is from 4-6pm at the bar. $9 margaritas and mojitos and a $10 martinis. There are also $8 bar apps. My mom loved the jacketed shrimp (shrimp wrapped in an egg roll wrapper) and got another order for dinner with a salad. I enjoyed the dumplings. For dinner I got Lamb Massaman. The lamb was so tender. The Massaman curry was also wonderful. Not too sweet and a small heat that lingered. The most important thing is I just got back from Thailand and thought I would never be able to have Thai food in America again. I can eat here everyday. read more

Dom Khao has been recommended to me for years, so I knew it was time to finally try this place. The restaurant is decorated so beautifully and festively. Their menu is fun, loaded with special drinks and desserts. Their entrees are pretty similar to what you would find in any Thai restaurant, but the dishes have an addd flare to them. The serving sizes can be shared among two-three people, but you definitely need to order a few more items to be filled. I enjoyed the duck roll and mango sticky rice, but u felt like the chicken dish and drunken noodles I had fell short. This restaurant isn't bad, don't get me wrong. I just equally enjoy my local take out place (and their bigger portions). read more

This is the 3rd time I've been here & this time it really blew me away! They added a soft shell crab curry on the menu & it definitely the best things I've eaten in a while! I hope they keep it on the menu or at least bring it out for the season. The drunken noodles were well seasoned & a nice level of spice. We go the Thai coffee dessert. Be warned this is not a spot for a quiet dinner to eat and chat, but it is one of Howard county, if not Maryland's stronger destinations for Thai cooking, delivering bold, satisfying flavors across the menu. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy! The interior decor was nicely decorated to the upcoming Christmas holidays and we were seated at a booth. We ordered the Crab Rangoon and Duck Roll to start with the Pad Thai (shrimp) as our main entree. The crab rangoon had mostly cream cheese in it, but it was delicious. The fried duck roll came with a sweet plum sauce and mustard which paired nicely with the duck. It honestly could have been an entree on its own. The Pad Thai was delicious with the traditional flavors and the shrimp was paired nicely with it. My husband got the Thai Milk Tea which he really enjoyed and they also have plenty of dessert options which we didn't get to try. We were a party of 6, and I was impressed at how accurate they were regarding when our table would be ready Dok Khao loses two stars for service. Once we were seated, they took our orders fairly quickly. When she came with the drink orders, she had everyone's drink but mine. I immediately let her know. I continued to wait. Our food orders began to trickle in, and I let someone else know. I continued to wait. I said something a third time and continued to wait. My drink ended up coming after the table drinks, after appetizers and after our main dishes, with no apology. Notice that I said our food began to trickle in. They didn't bring our main dishes out together, leaving some in our party to wait while others ate so their food wouldn't get cold. . Now, I will give them a star back because they immediately changed my friends dish that she didn't like. But then, I have to snatch it back because the menu listed my duck as $22, but they charged me $25 on my bill.
