I had a great experience working with Mike Madden at Dolan to order windows, a bi-fold door, skylights, solar tubes, interior doors, a front door, and door hardware for my whole house remodel. I walked in not knowing much about windows. Mike patiently answered all of my questions. Once I decided on Marvin Ultimate windows, Mike worked in a very detailed and organized way to get the proper measurements from my window installer and to finalize the many design decisions that I needed to make. This was a huge purchase and I appreciated how much time Mike took to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. After the window order, Mike worked with me for months to order the other materials. He also took great care. For example, he helped me order custom pocket doors with stile and rail sizes that match my other interior doors. He helped me problem solve. For example, the bottom of my interior doors needed to get cut because of my contractor's framing and Mike explained how I could do that without damaging the door. Overall, Dolan Lumber and Mike were invaluable for my whole house remodel. The difference between Dolan and other stores is that Dolan will respectfully and carefully work with you to get you what you want. read more

Ordered a new fiberglass front door from Dolan's showroom in WC in December. Delivery was supposed to take a month. Unfortunately, when the delivery date started to roll around, I was notified that there was a delay, and that delivery would actually take another month. Disappointed for sure, especially since there was no explanation. When the door finally came, it was first delivered to their preferred paint shop, Sal at Limitless Painting. Then, after Sal was done, he delivered to my house. After that, the next day, one of Dolan's recommended installers came to install, Sead. Door was installed on that day. Then Sal came back to do touch up around the trim, etc. Sal and Sead were top notch. Great to work with, great work. Mike at Dolan's was also easy to work with and gave good advice. The only reason it's 4, not 5, stars is because of the 1 month delay with no real explanation. Other than that, smooth transaction overall, and we're very happy with the result. read more

I had a very frustrating experience at Dolan's this past weekend. My husband and I visited the showroom hoping to get an idea of what kind of front door we might like and an approximate price. We made it clear from the start that we're new homeowners and just wanted some basic information to help us make a decision. Unfortunately, the man working there was incredibly rude and patronizing. When we mentioned that we didn't have the exact measurements of our door, just that it was a standard size, he immediately shut us down, saying he couldn't help without exact numbers. Then, when we mentioned our door has an overhang and doesn't get much direct sunlight, he insisted he needed to know exactly how much sunlight it gets. At that point, we just walked out. It was clear that Dolan's was not interested in helping us at all. We went to another store where they were more than happy to give us an estimate based on the information we were able to provide. read more

We order through our contractor 13 replacement windows (including a large picture window along with 5 new windows for an addition as well as a large sliding glass door. All products came with screens. All the products are Marvin and custom made for our project. I found our work with Dolan to select the items to be fine. The Marvin windows? Well...honestly they are not that great. They seem cheap - especially the screen door for our $12,000 twelve foot sliding glass door. Our original Marvin windows that we had upgraded felt like better quality- we should have kept them. Would I order the Marvin again? No. read more

We purchased a Therma-Tru door from Dolan's in Walnut Creek. We hired a licensed contractor to install the door. We never received a sweep with the door and our contractor never advised us to buy one. We ended up purchasing a sweep from home depot and installing it ourselves. We noticed that the sweep shredded after a few months. We finally figured out that every door (pre-hung) should come with a sweep already installed, this is how we understand it per other door distributors. We finally reached out to Dolan's and spoke to the rep (Jennifer) who sold the door to us. We specifically purchased an ADA compliant door with a specific ADA sill. We contacted Dolan's and after many months of back and forth dialogue, Dolan's finally had a Therma-Tru door rep meet us at our property to assess the issue. During the visit, Therma-Tru was arguing with Dolan's employee about responsibility, essentially blame shifting. Therma-Tru advised me to have the contractor remove the door and shave the bottom of the door so that it would not scrape at certain locations. First they blamed the contractor that installed it, later they determined that the door was installed flush and properly. I had spent over 2k getting the door prepped and installed and that does not include the price I paid for the door. Finally, Dolan's sent out their own contractor to assess the issue and I didn't expect anything more than him blaming me, the contractor, and Therma Tru for the issues with the door, he was very unprofessional and rude. I WAS a customer that purchased a door from Dolan's and like every other paying customer I expect Dolan's to stand behind the very doors that they sell. What I received was poor customer service, unprofessional dispute handling, and a bad taste in my mouth and complete regret having to deal with these folks. I now have a door that does not function properly. The worst part of dealing with Dolan's is the lack of urgency to get resolution on the door issue, playing the blame game, not taking responsibility for a defective door that they sold us, and offering no good faith resolution. I will never purchase a door or anything for that matter from this company again, and I advise you to also look elsewhere. I have all dialogue between myself and Dolan's, this issue should have taken no more than a few weeks to resolve, it took Dolan's over 8 months to address the issue and the only reason they sent someone out is because I stayed on top of them. I hope this review helps someone else. There are other's who have left negative review about Therma-Tru doors and dealing with this company. read more

On October 14, 2024 I ordered a Simpson pre-hung front door. I was told it would be delivered by December 14, 2024 in time to be installed before Christmas. However the door arrived but the side lite that was part of the order didn't arrive, now the date is expected to be January 14, 2025. Unknown to me Dolan's door shop actually are the ones that pre-hang the door, they never inspected the door so when the side lite came in they found the wood unacceptable (strips of white vs darker wood) so now it goes back to Simpson for repair, which could have happen in December when it was first delivered a month goes by now the delivery date is February 14, 2025 I waited FIVE MONTHS for this DOOR (5 MONTHS) WTF!!! I can't tell you how disappointed I am with how Dolan handled this order and miss managed the issue with Simpson. I am starting a $350,000 dollar remodel and I will not give another dime to Dolans. I'm open to suggestions for other lumber companies I'm not the only one that has given them a bad review and justly so. REPLY: Yes, you gave a large credit of $300 on a $4800 door. I would have expected at least 10 to 20 % credit like most reputable companies. You live and learn, you got me once but not again. read more

Our experience with Dolan's began well but has unfortunately no ended that way. We used Dolan's and their installer PED for windows and patio doors in a complete home remodel. Mid remodel we had a dispute with our initial contractor for which they are under investigation by the CSLB, we have filed civil litigation, and plan to pursue criminal charges. After moving forward with a reputable area contractor we returned to review front door options but were informed they would not do business with us, or our contractor, because it would be "a headache" for them. Rudeness and unprofessional behavior with PED during our window and patio door install was initially forgiven, but I have never been so professionally disrespected and I think it wise to raise this to potential Dolan's customers. read more

With all the supply chain delays that were happening, it was tricky to find windows and doors that would work with our construction schedule. Thank you Dolan's. When we remodeled out house 15 years ago, we replaced all windows and doors. We bought Anderson Windows and French Doors/Sliders from Dolan's. Amazing selection. The seal in the dual pane large window in our living room recently broke and started to get cloudy. It took some time, but Dolan's replaced the window with NO COST to us for the glass (Anderson has a 20 year guarantee on the seal for their windows - the installer pointed that out). The installation charge was VERY reasonable. And the installers did an AMAZING job - nice guys, neat, clearly knew what they are doing, etc. A real home town treasure. read more

We had a complicated order that required follow-up for ordering, and delivery instructions to a third party painter. Both the painter, and the company which installed the (3) doors were recommended by Sarah, and we were very satisfied with their performance as well. Sarah was very responsive to all of the emails my wife sent with product questions, delayed delivery issues (NOT Dolan's fault, but the manufacturer which like many companies was having supply problems), and suggestions for the best products for our application. This review is really about Sarah Bray, who has helped me with four different purchases, including the one that was just installed. Sarah is EVERYTHING one could want in a salesperson and more. She knows the products forwards and backwards. But it's more than just parroting what the manufacturers say - she offers practical and hands-on insight. She can provide opinions and suggestions, but never pushy nor judgmental in doing so. She is friendly in a way that makes you feel like you've always known her. I emailed her before and after the purchase with various questions. Each time, she provided timely, helpful responses. Basically, I wish I could go into any other store/retailer and have someone like Sarah helping me out. But there aren't. So even if I could go somewhere else to buy my windows, I won't - because I wouldn't get Sarah as my advisor. And then after that get quotes from other vendors who will be installing and painting those doors. That's two more different people. A friend of my recommended Sarah at Dolans. We were looking to replace 6 large windows in the front of an early 1900s-era Edwardian house in Oakland. Previously, we had a horrible experience working with Home Depot (2 of 16 windows ordered came damaged or wrong size) to purchase windows, and my GC didn't impress us with his installation and finishing touches. Sarah learned about my previous experiences with windows, and guided us to what would meet our expectations in the show room. The showroom in Walnut Creek is the biggest we have seen in the Bay Area. Sarah connected us to a local contractor she trusts and that works at the quality we were looking for. The local contractor assessed the job site, and confirmed the type of installation and his approach before we placed the order. Sarah kept us informed after the order was placed, and John (the contractor she recommended for our job) had his team install the windows perfectly in one day on a Saturday. The face of our house was transformed and we are grateful. Working with Sarah at Dolan's was a breeze - it's clear Sarah has been doing this for a long time. With all the torrential rain we've had this year, we discovered a leak in the frame of our living room window, and since it was one of our windows from Dolan's, we called them for service. And great service it was with Ted. Ted was absolutely top notch--prompt, professional, expert, and friendly. He diagnosed the problem immediately, fixed most of what needed fixing on the spot with the tools and products he had on hand, and will be returning for the final small piece of the work. Our original sales representative from Dolan (who is also terrific) had a sudden family emergency and was out of the office unexpectedly before she could place our time-sensitive order. After learning that our order had not been placed and the potential impact to our project timeline, Kieylee escalated the issue to her manager, Cynthia. Within 24 hours, I received a call directly from the owner Gene Dolan who said he would work with us to ensure our order would arrive on time and not impact our construction schedule. On top of that, after reviewing our original order, Gene made several terrific recommendations to improve the quality and aesthetics of our overall project - and ended-up saving us some money. We went with a Simpson wood door and Millard Tuscany Sliding patio door and a new window for our garage. She was thorough in the process and made sure all my questions were answered. She also made she we were well educated on the hardware and commercial grade bearing hinges we had installed on our door as well. We ordered windows from the Jennifer on 9/28/22. J worked really hard on finalizing the designs and the quote. The first batch of windows (Simunton) arrived very quickly on 10/11/22. On 12/12/22, one of the Simunton windows was damaged by Dolan's staff in their warehouse. We did not hear about the incident until we called Jennifer about the delivery of the second batch of windows. J said she would order a replacement window for us. On 12/15/22, when we called about the third batch of windows, we learned that no replacement order for the damaged window was placed. We kept contacting J to find out about it because our remodeling start date is dependent on all the windows being delivered. We waited until 1/6/23 to find out that in fact, a replacement window wasn't ordered, only the glass of the window was. We emailed Jennifer requesting her to order not just the glass but the entire window because we fear that the performance and integrity of window if just repairing the window would not be the same. By 1/11/23, we haven't heard back so I called. Sandy told me J was out sick since Monday. By this point, our project start date is slipping from 1/11/23 to 1/16/23 to 1/23/23. I asked Sandy to look into the matter in J's absence. I told her the Simunton window delivers in 2 weeks so had they ordered it on 12/15/22, we would have received it. If we ordered it today, it could still arrive by 1/25/23. She was very helpful and spoke to her general manager Cynthia for direction but C. refused to order the window from scratch, despite that the company has insurance that would cover it. Sandy couldnt go against Cynthia's direction so she gave me C's phone number to call. When I called, a woman named Arlene answered the call instead. From the getgo she was rude. She did not believe me when I told her Sandy just consulted with Cynthia. She had to call Sandy to confirm I was a liar. I told her the reason why I wanted to speak to Cynthia was that Cynthia wasn't helpful in her response, and because J was out sick, the matter was delayed time and time again since 12/12/22... but she cut me off by telling me her oversimplified understanding of the matter. I told her I wished to speak to a manager. She was confident Jennifer would return the next day with no basis. She said Cynthia is unavailable to talk now, today and for the foreseeable weeks. When I asked her if there is another manager I could speak to, she said another store manager Kelley was in a meeting so she had to take my # down for Kelley to call me. I asked her what the store's process is to handle complaints and escalation when a salesperson is sick. That's when she began to ridicule me with her tone of condescension and rebuked me with direct affront. I confronted her of her unprofessional attitude and told her I did not break the glass of the window but the company did, and wished to explain the matter to the manager myself. She hung me up! Arlene was not fit to be in a profession that requires finessed customer interaction. An horrible gate keeper she is, to say the least. Why is she taking everything so personally and why is interjecting herself between a customer and management?! She is a counterproductive force and had made the matter worse. Cynthia was not acting as what a general manager should. Isn't a general manager's job to solve problems? Sometimes a customer just needs to be heard. In this case, the store failed miserably to listen with compassion, to explain their perspective why repairing just the window glass alone would not hurt the integrity of the window to a lay person to alleviate their anxiety. Later that day I phoned the store back and spoken with a Kieylee who was a patient and bright problem solver. She listened to me intently without any interruption for five minutes and proceeded to explain to me why repairing the glass at the store restores the window warranty. This is because the company is a certified service location for Andersen. This was exactly what I needed to hear and exactly what Arlene, Jennifer and Sandy did not do. Kelley also called back and explained the same. She was very nice, compassionate and apologetic for her employee Arlene's conduct. Kelley said Cynthia was out sick today so she was not in the office. But both Sandy and Arlene failed to mention that. So I don't know which general manager gave Sandy the directives today of not ordering the replacement window for us... Kieylee and Kelley turned things around. But I have already spent so much time on this one window. What Arlene did was abominable and uncalled for. It would be hard for me to give a review of 5 at this point. I documented this so the owner can know what goes on in the stores. read more
