Not a lot of frozen dessert options in the area. Found this place in the corner of some sort of shopping district, perhaps. The line wasn't that long but there was a line inside and barely space for it. There's minimum seating around the edge of the store and a couple of tables outside. There's also a fair number of tables and places to sit that don't belong to the store. When it was finally my turn at the counter, I had to taste test two flavors at least. Ended up getting a triple cup, mascarpone berries, dark chocolate, and coffee. Chocolate was my least favorite. I thought it would be safe but it just wasn't what I was looking for. Maybe not as creamy as ice cream. Coffee and cookie was actually a bit milder than expected. Mascarpone was my favorite. While I had no regrets in trying this, it was hella expensive. I think over $8 and my cup was not that big or packed in full or tall. I still enjoy the non standard flavors of this store and would try some more flavors. read more

I came here around 9pm on a Friday night to charge my phone and rest a bit before a trip. Dolcezza is a popular place -- there were people constantly coming in and out when I was there. I can see why this place is packed because what I got was some of the best gelato I've ever had in a long time! I got the black sesame and blueberry lavender gelato. We had the Sichuan peppercorn pistachio, the mascarpone berry, and the hazelnut crackle. I would totally go back for the hazelnut crackle. I'll keep it short and simple, good gelato and coffee place, but TLDR: It's overhyped and too expensive for an "okay quality" gelato and unwelcoming staff. It's location is amazing though, but I wouldn't come back personally. I ordered 2 Adffogato ($8.50) and 1 small gelato ($7.00). The small gelato came with two flavor scoops while the large ($8.00) came with three flavor scoops. The taste wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional, just average in my opinion. The service was meh, like I felt rushed and the staff wasn't welcoming to be honest. The women behind the coffee bar handing my adffogato orders was the nicest staff though (+ 1 star). The cafe inside was spacious, with lots of seats and tables for seating (or standing if you prefer haha). It was loud inside, so not a good studying spot. Located in a beautiful plaza is a great cafe that served the best gelato I've ever had. I ordered the blueberry lavender, the very popular mascarpone and berries, and the pistachio. The blueberry lavender did not have the strongest blueberry flavor but did leave a nice aftertaste of the lavender. The pistachio only had a slight taste of pistachio, but the mascarpone and berries was amazing. The texture of all three gelatos were kind of like chewy? You'll understand once you try their gelato, it really is worth a visit if you're around the area. Overall, definitely recommend this spot as a great spot for ice cream! read more

I was able to sample some flavors before deciding on hazelnut crackle and bananas foster. You can have two flavors in one cup. This is some of the best gelato I've had to be honest. SMALL GELATO - 6.05 You can get two different flavors here, but my heart was set on the "Dark Chocolate" flavor. It's not too sweet, but boy, it is rich and thick. They were different enough that it seemed like two very distinct flavors. If you're looking for something less sweet, a bit tart, or less creamy, try the sorbets. I tried a bunch of my kids sorbets. They offered americano's instead of coffee. That was fine with me, but the Americano's were absolutely terrible. I have never had one that was so bitter and adding sugar did not offset its bad taste. On a hot summer day, you definitely need to stop here for a gelato or sorbet. We got a size small which was $6 but comes with two scoops which means you can try two flavors. I got peach and mango sorbet which was pretty tasty but nothing to write home about. I could get something similar from another place. However, the gelato is what redeemed this spot for me. We got peaches and cream with dark chocolate. The peaches and cream sweetness compared to the bitter dark chocolate ended up making a great combo. I'm going to be honest. I had some hesitation before my visit because when we previously got a pint of Dolcezza gelato from a Whole Foods store, I was a bit underwhelmed. After a few spoonfuls of gelato from this place, my hesitation soon melted away. Each spoonful was rich, thick, and full of flavor. Given that my visit was during the fall, I had to try the pumpkin flavor. It was truly enjoyable as the pumpkin taste came through easily without any of the strong pumpkin spices. I chose the vanilla bean and raspberry mascarpone. Firstly, the texture is nice and creamy, just like I prefer. The raspberry mascarpone has a little more of a cream cheese texture to it, which wasn't bad. The flavors were also delicious. The vanilla bean was mild in terms of sweetness. The raspberry mascarpone was deliciously reminiscent of raspberry cheesecake. Combining the two was a great pairing which I enjoyed. I enjoyed their iced hazelnut latte even though it was super windy outside. I somehow made the drink last for 2 hours because I waited for the ice to melt (I added my own ice) while I worked. The caffeine was strong enough to keep me awake through jetlag. Their gelato look (and smell) so good that we went back the next day just to try some. There were a decent number of people getting gelato, so yes, getting gelato when there's an incoming snowstorm is definitely normal. They were offering samples, but we loved the first two we sampled, so we made our decision instantly. We ordered their small gelato (tramontana and hazelnut crackle) to share between 2. Both were delicious, but it was our first time trying tramontana and we were pleasantly surprised by the crunchy dark chocolate pearls inside. It might not be for you if you prefer your gelato to be completely smooth though. Anyways, I was super excited to see WholeFoods sells Dolcezza gelato in pints, so since I missed the gelato so much, I decided to grab both flavors for myself during the recent savings deal. Fantastic gelato in City Centre! Staff was friendly. Shop was clean, well lit with seating both inside and out. There was a wide variety of gelatos and sorbet. Samples are available to try. Really enjoyed this coffee shop when visiting DC! We tried the dulce de leche latte hot and iced. Both were delicious! We also got a crossiant, warmed that was so flaky and delicious! Staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs as we waited for the drinks! I also love the location of the shop! It's amidst of some expensive clothing places so it's always clean outside. The inside has a display of available gelatos and drinks! (Side note I tried a sampling of gelato that was AMAZING! I'll have to try that on my return).
