This place can be a hit or miss! I will admit I normally do not shop at these type of places, but they serve their purpose at times. Please do not go in their expecting help finding things, that just won't happen. But if you take your time in their and really look, if your lucky you can find some really good things. Candles, small games, cards, greeting cards, glassware, even certain types of soap and hygiene products if your willing. Not to mention the balloons at the front! Even if it is busy they get through the line pretty fast, the parking is wonderful and like most other dollar stores, I guess you can say it is relativity clean. This West Hills store is an absolute nightmare. They NEVER have enough people working the registers. There is usually just one register open, and the line of customers routinely backs up into the aisles. Heaven help you if someone has come in to get a bunch of helium balloons; then there's NO one ringing up customers while their one checker is filling mylar Garfields. It seems only when customers really start grumbling and complaining do they open another register. And sometimes not even then. I don't know if it's because they're seriously understaffed or the store is just run very poorly and the employees hate working the registers. The last time I went in there, the line wasn't as long as it usually is - it was only about seven (!) people long, so I didn't walk out as I usually do. I got within two customers of being having my items rung up when the phone at the register rang. The checker (Irma? Vilma? Something with an '-ma' at the end) answered and at first it *sounded* like she was speaking with a customer who called in with a question. But soon enough, I realized it's a purely personal call, and this knucklehead employee was holding the phone with one hand, and ridiculously, trying to continue to ring up purchases with the other - making mistakes left and right because she wasn't focusing on doing her JOB. The pace of the already slow checkout line was further reduced to a crawl. I finally paid for my stuff, made some admittedly snippy little comment to her about getting off the phone (which she didn't quite hear, and thought I was thanking her) and I got the hell out of there. Next I went to Pavilion's further north in the same shopping center. I was there for fifteen minutes, and had to pass Dollar Tree again on the way back to my car. Irma, or Velma, or Magma, or whatever the hell her name is was *still* on the phone, and now her line of customers, each looking angrier than the one behind him or her, was stretching down the aisle. No point in complaining to corporate: the "Contact Us" link on the Dollar Tree website is solely for those interested in investing with the company. They're not terribly concerned with customers. I'll continue shopping at Dollar Tree, just not this one. There's another a few miles away, at Roscoe and DeSoto, and even though this is in the armpit of Canoga Park, it's never as crowded and the lines never seem to be long. Maybe that's why. Very long wait. The always have 1 cashier at the register. Sometimes they have two but the second one always will help out a selected amount of people. If it weren't for the $1 gift paper and bags I would go next door to Hallmark, which I did once because one of the cashiers was taking way too long to ring up the person in front of me. It serves it's purpose! Stopped by here to grab a couple things to create a "goodie box" for a kiddo I work with. They have a lot of options for kids. They carry little toys, lots of puzzles, word puzzles, balloons, arts and crafts materials. etc. They also have clear shoe boxes as well as a variety of clear containers. They didn't have much on office supplies. They have a little bit of everything and a whole lot of random party items (i.e., balloons, gift bags, etc). Lines were not bad at all. I really enjoy going to this dollar tree. The employees are nice but always in a rush obviously they always have tons of people around the time I go. I enjoy this place because they have great deals and some things are even good quality. I like going to this one because it's closest to me and also my work. They have a variety of useful things like snacks, art supplies, special occasion stuff like invitations, balloons and utensils many things and everything is $1 which is so awesome! People that come here are usually nice people you'll see a lot of people who are in a rush. But I'm sure this is a last minute store to many. I usually go around 12:15 and it's the busiest. If you are in a rush and on break I say you go to Starbucks instead. read more

This store is an absolute disaster. I went to the store this afternoon to pick up a few things and I spoke to a guy there and asked him a few things and he was very rude. At the checkout line the line was up to the isles and there was only one cashier open with such a long line in the store. As I was waiting in the line to check out there was a box of cans that fell all over the floor neither the manager nor the cashier gave a crap with kids running around all over the store I had to mention it to them and even when I did mention it to them they still didn't care and I didn't see anyone pick it up for the 20 minutes that I was in line. Dollar Tree - Discount Store Near Me - West Hills, California

This is a not preferably store. The LONG lines move SLOWLY. Very slowly The workers need to pick up the slack and change the culture of this store. Everything is messy inside. I REALLY avoid this place personally because of how bad the environment is. Everyone moves slow, and without a sense of urgency. All aside, stuff is for $1, which is why I gave it 2 stars. You guys need to realize some things about Dollar Tree before you write your negative comments. It isn't the fault of the manager or cashiers that the company only allows a certain amount of cashiers everyday. It's a dollar store they need to make a profit. It is company policy if someone wants balloons they get in line with everyone else unless by some miracle there is someone handy to blow them up who isn't cashiering. What can I say ? A dollar store can't be beat!! I love coming here when they receive new merchandise because they get so many goodies and everything is well organized. On the other hand it gets super busy and messy as well! My only complaint is they need more cashiers!!! Huge lines are very inconvenient and makes customers unhappy!!! The store has a soft spot in my heart when I want to buy things for only $1 but since it's so cheap I find it sometimes hard to walk out having spent less than $30-$50. That number is strictly based on what essentials I need plus top off another $20 on things I never need but are too cheap to pass up. The preference for Dollar Tree stores vs. 99 Cent Only stores is in their organization of products. If I need to buy things for a party, they're all nicely contained and displayed at Dollar Tree. Office and floral supplies are again nicely arranged and laid out. The most basic postal supplies are ready and waiting together for you to ship items if you so please. There's so much else and I just like the lay out a lot more and it's cleaner. Even though they may not have more than 99 Cent stores, their presentation always gets my creative juices flowing. There's something about spending $1 a few times over in a specific department that gets me to want to start making things. Worst store ever with the rudest staff. The lady at the cash register acts horrible towards her customers. To explain my story: The lady was being rude to the guy in front of me and slammed his items down. He said "Is everything ok? Because I'm about two seconds from walking out." Then he left. At first, I thought he was just being an a**hole, but I thought wrong. Then when it was time to help me, their credit card machine wasn't functioning correctly because their touchscreen wasn't responding. After I told her that her machine wasn't working correctly she snapped, threw a tantrum, and grabbed the credit card machine like she was pissed off and said "USE YOUR FINGER. HERE... LOOK... THIS IS HOW YOU WORK IT. SEE? LOOK! WAS THAT SO HARD?!". It took her 10 tries to push the item on the touchscreen before it finally responded. She then said "IS THIS EVERYBODY'S FIRST TIME USING A CREDIT CARD MACHINE?!?!?!". Then I said "The guy in front of me was right, your service is crap." and left pissed off. I called them to complain, but I think it's family owned. She answered the phone and was reluctant to let me speak to a manager. Then when she finally let me, it sounded like it could've been her son who was the "Assistant Manager". The guy on the phone sounded like he could've been a young kid in his 20's. His response was "OK I'll tell her." No apologies, no sympathy, nothing. That is no way to treat your paying customers. Seems like its family owned and family staffed. If i could give a 1/2 star then I would. I'll be sure to pass the word to everyone never to go to that location. read more

My go to for the little things (cards, balloons, plasticware, spices etc). Staff is nice and since it's a dollar store there's always a line but everything's a dollar which is a non-factor in my opinion. Lines move rather quickly and they always have my Mike N Ikes too. Nothing great about this location. They usually don't have as many balloons as they advertise (meaning some balloon are always out of stock), the line can be long, and there are a few people there that are always grumpy. The line is insanely long. Usually there is only one cashier. One time a woman was trying to buy helium balloons and was told that she had to buy them at the cash register and that nobody on the floor could provide them to her. So, in a line of 10+ people, she sat at the counter mulling over which balloons she wanted while the line backed up and people got annoyed and she hmm'd and hawed over balloons. I had ONE card I was buying. ONE item. I waited for 15 minutes in line. It's absolutely ridiculous. I wish there was another dollar store or one that was better managed. This place is a nightmare. Do not go, unless you plan on spending 15 minutes or more in line. Don't go if you want any customer service whatsoever. Don't go if you want any cleanliness or organization. The place is a dump. This place has some great bargains, you just have to look for them. For example, I bought Almay eye shadow, usually priced at $3-5 here for just $1. They're really getting better with the items they offer. However, they aren't perfect. Their nail polish isn't worth buying. But they have a lot of good cleaning supplies, party supplies, and greeting cards that definitely are worth the trip. Ok , I read your posts and to ease your painful dollar tree experience just a tad im going to give you a little understanding. I am currently on my 7th week of employment with the dollar tree and its hell I am forced to work there because alot of places just don't have room for a classically trained chef who graduated from 3 different culinary programs ( Paris Le cordon bleu included) and thats partially to blame on the economy and the area Im living in right now. Back to the point dollar tree pays their employees minimum wage which is I guess to be expected. Offers no full time ( meaning you work 39 hours and 59 minutes), no discount benefit programs and no requested days off unless they are scheduled 4 weeks prior. That one cashier is swamped he or she has to ring up customers with no help, stock the store and clean it with hardly any help and pray to god that he/she doesn't run out of change because dollar tree seems to allow their managers to do what ever the hell they want . We are also required to answer the phone no matter who's in front of us ( though that doesn't excuse the personal call) and deal with the balloons and all customer returns and complaints. If we do not fill out our sheets saying we did everything in the store we get a write up and will most likely be fired from the job that puts food on our tables in this time. Dollar tree sides with their managers , my manager took 20 dollars out of my register and insted of investigating they sided with the manager. We are yelled at and treated like crap by the managers and customers. I got called a Cu*t because my store doesn't take mastercard. You most likely had a bad cashier and I'm sorry but that cashier probably gets up in the morning and rubs herself down with back rub because after dealing with inconsiderate customers she had to reorganize 60 pound boxes because at the dollar tree a cashier is a stocker is a cleaning crew. Yes were getting paid minimum wage for a job that expects way to much and yes it is our job but cut us some slack we work really hard for that 7 dollars an hour and not all of us are high school dropouts. At my store 7 of the 10 employees have at least 1 college degree. and FYI when that line is backed up 90% of the time were told not to call for help cause were not going to get it and it makes the manager ( who's outside smoking) look bad . the store is awesome, so clean and organized. They have a lot of good items to choose from. Most of the employees there are friendly ,they greet you with a smile..in other words , so nice. I usually come to this store 3 times a week, and every time I visit i always feel happy. I can always find or see what i am looking for. The cashier that is open is so fast, i always come between 1 to 3 pm ,and my visit is so cool. So i always tell my friends to visit that time cause when your on the checkout, you don't have to wait a long time. I really love the store. read more
