My first and only experience with Dolly was rather unfortunate. I requested 2 movers to move 4 items: 2 couches, a small desk, and a medium bookcase. Although the mover and his assistant were pleasant people, the mover's assistant was unable to help him move my 2 couches because they were too heavy for her. I had to step in and carry it with her and at times, for her. It's fortunate that I happen to be strong enough to do these things, but I paid for 2 people to move my stuff, not for me to have to pitch in. I did it because it had to get done but I did not get what I paid for. Out of the 4 items I requested be moved, only the desk and bookcase were moved by the mover and his assistant. The 2 couches were moved by either the main mover and myself or all three of us. When this was brought up to Dolly's customer service team, the first thing they did was apply a $25 credit to my account, which they hoped "is a fair amount to provide for the trouble. This can be redeemed automatically for the next time you need us in the next 3 months." I appreciated the gesture of the credit but after moving once, it's not likely I'm going to need Dolly services again in the next 3 months (especially after such a poor experience). Instead, I asked to have a partial refund because I did not get the service I paid for. Their counter offer was a $20 refund. Since I did 25% of the work, I requested that I get a 25% refund which would have come out to $48. They stuck by the $20 offer. Of course I took it because apparently there were no other options, but I am highly unsatisfied. It's truly a shame this happened because I think the app is a brilliant idea that I would love to recommend to others, but because of this experience where something went wrong and Dolly didn't do enough to fix it, I can't feel confident enough in the app to recommend it to others. read more

They had days to figure out delivery and their only response was that they couldn't do it for the designated day. Now I'm going out of town for several weeks and need to arrange other method. I called to ask about it and they said nothing was ever scheduled followed by, oh the delivery guy had a family emergency. $73 to move one couch 2 miles seems a bit excessive, but...okay. The movers were professional and nice...overall. However, they arrived 1 hr early. I had planned on them arriving at 12:00 pm (which is what I put on the app) and had told the person I was buying the couch from to expect them at 12:00 pm. They arrived at 11:00 am, and that not only skewed my plans, but I had to scramble to ensure that the person I was buying my couch from was home and okay to receive them. I put a specific window of time because I was busy doing things in the morning, so them arriving that early pretty much set everything else back, and I ended up missing my evening plans. Oh, and I got charged extra for 2 flights of stairs. Each "flight" is literally 5 steps in the front of the house. Altogether, 10 steps...which is usually less than 1 flight of stairs in an apartment or whatever. With the scheduling snafu, this extra charge was really irritating. And the person they were picking the sofa up from told me that they asked her if SHE could move the sofa from her apartment to the lobby because they couldn't find parking. I mean...really? However, other than all of the weird stuff above, the actual move itself was done well. Professional. Careful. But eh, I don't know that I would use Dolly again. read more

Unbelievably bad! Horrible customer service. Huge cancellation fee and twice the price of Lugg! Save yourself the hassle and go with Lugg Or anything else. The managers of furniture stores usually know that and had we asked the manager prior to placing this order, we would have saved ourselves a lot of time and headache. Extremely expensive. Unreliable, rescheduling after pick up time etc... my husband and I booked Dolly to pick up a desk we had won the bid on, not only did they try to reschedule after scheduled pick up time no one showed up to pick up that desk at rescheduled time !!!! We lost the desk as it had to be picked up by a certain time and the company with the desk even gave us a second chance, however Dolly still didn't show up! We still have to pay for the desk and it is no longer available for pick up.....I am reporting to the BBB as I feel others should not get ripped off by this company. Learned about Dolly from a Lowes employee when I had a massive (200+lb) grill to take home that didn't fit in the Explorer. Downloaded Dolly and scheduled a pickup and delivery for that afternoon. Had a driver scheduled within 30min! Was able to chat with him through the in-app messaging and even look at his reviews and profile. Driver was fantastic - precisely on time and extremely professional and helpful. Entire delivery took less than 30min; I got my grill home and saved like $40 than what Lowe's charges for delivery. Bought a new console table from Big Lot's in Issaquah and used Dolly to get it to our new place in Redmond. The guys were great, very nice and kept me updated. My only complaint is that they arrived an hour before I had booked them to arrive so for a good half hour, I was stressed that I wouldn't make it home on time to meet them there. I needed to move a couch and 2 large chairs for about 10 km. I tried to look for conventional movers but they all charge for at least 3 hours with min $110/hour. With Dolly I was able to accomplish my project for about $100 by ordering two guys and a truck. Overall impression about movers - 5 stars, however the app needs a lot of improvement - 3 stars. It crashed often and requires an option to "release" a dolly by a customer. A few tips for people who want to use the service: * If you want to tip, do it right away, otherwise the dolly (that's what moving requests are called in the app) becomes completed after about 1 day and even if you "send" a tip, they'll not charge it from your credit card. * Check dimensions of a truck thoroughly. The first guy who's responded had a Chevy truck which was kind of small for my furniture and I didn't want stacking, so I had to spend time convincing him to "release" the dolly. The second guy had a rather big truck for my needs. * Sync with your mover on a contact info in case the app crashes / fails to communicate in the very moment you need it the most. Sent out 2 guys and I am helping them. I am lifting a heavy object (undisclosed to protect the innocent), and the first guy is just standing there while the driver is wasting time putting on his gloves. I told the first guy to help out and then had to tell the second guy to help out. Next time, I won't help out. So lazy and unhelpful. Last time my client used them, they showed up an hour late and their extra fellow didn't show, even after waiting a extra half hour, so he never showed up in an hour and a half late. Finally helped the driver myself. They could use some quality control and some real movers, not a bunch of lazy deadbeats. What ever you do, don't help them out. read more

UNRELIABLE, Helpers cancelled twice! Unfortunately, we had a very negative experience. I setup this Dolly for my parents and it was re-listed not once but twice! The first time was a couple days before our move. The second time was on the actual day of the move. I understand Dolly's helpers are contractors, and they use the Uber model. That's fine, some circumstances can not be helped. However, when I asked for a discount on my move, they refused. You would think that establishing customer goodwill and repeat business would be way more important than a measly $35. If they continue to conduct business like this, I predict their days are numbered. read more

We used Dolly to move and was quoted for our furniture and given a window when they would show up. They were 5 hours late and because we were on a strict deadline we moved most of the furniture ourselves. After the movers left we were promised that our new charge would reflect the 5 pieces of furniture they did move rather than what we were quoted. Dolly has refused to give us an itemized list of our furniture costs and have hung up on us several time when we've tried to call and discuss. I would have rated my most recent Dolly experience higher however the service that I received was extremely poor. I have used Dolly many times and have enjoyed the service - always friendly helpers and assistants. This time around the service started great and after 3.5 hours it became quite clear they (the helpers) were moving slower than usual. It normally takes no more than 2 hours to move my belongings from a 1 bedroom apt. This time it took 4 hours. Not only did I pay Dolly the fee, but the lead helper said I had to pay him additional money. He told me this in the middle of my move and it was really awkward. I kept asking myself, should I pay him or should I not and take the risk they will complete the work. He kept pressuring me and I finally caved in. I ended up paying him $200.00 - on top of the $195 I was charged by Dolly. I had to use Venmo because I didn't have cash - (thankfully I have a record of this). Getting a hold of Dolly directly is almost impossible unless you do some research and find their phone number. Otherwise you can only send them a message via their "contact us" method. I was very diligent and messaged them on Facebook Messenger too. Considering the serious of this issue and it's a breach of their rules for their helpers, you would think Dolly would reach out immediately and not have to wait 24-48 hours for a response. I threatened to file a consumer complaint with the WA State AG's office if I was not contacted. I went ahead and filed a complaint and the AG's office said it's a valid complaint. They will be investigating my complaint. In the meantime, I spoke to someone at Dolly on the phone and they set the expectation I would be contact by Wednesday, 2-26-2020 - well guess what it's 5:30 pm and no phone call. As I type this I am on hold waiting for a Dolly CR person to answer. It's been 10 minutes. What is scary is that the helper as my cell #, knows where I live, and I was told by Dolly they have to reach out to the helper. I fear of being contacted/retaliated by the helper if he is contacted. I conveyed this to Dolly and I hope I am not contacted by the helper. Don't use this service. Although I had excellent service in the past, after this experience I will never use them again. I also work for a very large retail company and Dolly is advertised in some of our locations, I'll be sure to contact the appropriate team within my company and request them to pull the ads. Update: I have been on hold for 20 minutes and continue to hold. Pathetic customer service. read more

Ended up having to add over $100 to a move because I thought I put in a flight of stairs and apparently I didn't, it's on one of many pages to go through when filling out a job and I must have Missed it. We were assured and reassured that 2 workers would be available to help unload our truck to move into our apartment in Tacoma. Someone named Bjorn assured us we would have phone access should there be any problems. We had a narrow window for unloading. We needed to start at 2 p.m. on 3/30/19. At 2:30 pm we got a text saying "sorry, we cannot have workers at the appointed time. Please send an alternative time for unloading which will improve your chances of getting help" etc etc. It put us in a very difficult situation with much pressure. There was no one to call. Numbers only had the usual "all available operators re helping other customers" etc etc. We need new laws that make it possible for consumers to get double compensation for such incompetent and unresponsive service. I will never use this service again. What does it mean when a company has a Chicago area code, accepting a job in Tacoma with its nearest office an hour away in Seattle with no access to anyone by phone to deal with such a problem, with no apparent accountability for workers to show up at appointed times? This is a category of company that cares nothing about the people it serves nor for the employees it uses but cares nothing about. Our country needs to be rid of such companies. Sadly, this is where to much of our economy seems to be headed. May consumers get stronger and fight back! read more

I had a mattress picked up by a helper from a local store. My helper did a wonderful job without me being there. I was able to deliver a much needed mattress to my son who had been sleeping on the floor for 3 weeks. I was very pleased with David's service and had no issue. However, Dolly app could be improved. I had to deliver the receipt to my helper before pick-up. I emailed support@dolly.com 3 times but, they all gave me an excuse and bounced the request back to me. The support told me to upload it to the app directly. I really didn't see any page that allows you to leave a special request or special document. And as a first time user, I had hard time pulling up my order. And my second email returned that the image was pdf and I have to open the PDF and take a photo of document. All this could be improved with a little bit of UI modification. Otherwise, service was excellent. read more

DO NOT USE DOLLY APP. I heard they were great for hiring muscle.I needed a lot of muscle for this move. These two men came and what should have taken less than 5 hours took more. I was stuck... I had to pay them under the table to stay for another hour because they were all I had... They knew that. My chemo exhaustion had my stutter was at an all time high. I fed them lunch and snacks and when they left I saw they had gone back into my kitchen and into my freezer and even took more food! They left the door open and my dog got out! One guy was on his cell every time I saw him. He even plugged it into my home. They scratched my sonso bed, banged the walls and I have even more to move but my body is exhausted and my spirit is low My heart is sad... I am so foolish to believe that if I treated them well they would reciprocate... instead they preyed on my physical weakness and stole from me.. read more

Dolly has been hit.. with a little bit of a miss for me. I have used it 4 times now. The app is super easy to use and I think the company behind it is providing a needed service for small moves in the city. However the contractors that are dispatched for the moves can be quite rude or wonderful to work with depending on who you get. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I used this service to move my items November, once I was notified by my complex of the damage that occurred while they moved my items I immediately notified dolly. They let me know they only cover damages for 14 days, then as time went on with the care agent and reporting them to the bbb they offered me a small amount $50 of the almost $600 plus damages that I spent with them. To add more disrespect they offered it as an account credit to their services, which I will never use again. read more

Be warned! Their website advertises "guaranteed pricing... no surprises." I entered the photo of my item, as instructed, and received my fixed quote. When the movers arrived, they called me and demanded more money "because you can't tell how heavy an item is from a photo" (that's your entire business model). And with the weight "we are going to have to use our hand tools to move it." (That's what movers do). I am very disappointed in the service I received from Dolly and cannot recommend them. Their customer service has been very unresponsive. The movers managed to drop my armoire down a flight of stairs. Not only did this damage the armoire but also the wood floors where it landed. Additionally, the walls around the stairs and the banisters were damaged. Accidents happen. However, Dolly has been very slow to process my claim, and now will not provide an update on status of those various insurance claims, having not answered messages for over 2 weeks. I would like them to actually respond in a timely fashion and actually settle as I am currently out of pocket by a significant amount of money. read more

Follow up on original email - basically my dresser was damaged during delivery and all the emails received from Dolly were "Accidents do happen", offers of a discount or refund, or the process of submitting a formal claim. The Dolly email communications, seemed to me, were more that Dolly was more worried about deducting pay from the Dolly Helpers than what happened to my dresser. I can see from the reviews that people are happy about the price and the services that they received - but again have the knowledge that you do not know how much experience your Dolly Helper has in moving - and you do get what you pay for. Original email - On March 25, 2017 I had a large dresser delivered. The Dolly helpers were punctual, polite and helpful moving the old furniture to the garage but...the dresser was delivered damaged. The dresser was inspected right before the Dolly pick up and was fine. I looked at the dresser when it was moved to my bedroom and did not readily see any visible damage. A little bit later when I started to clean the dresser I noticed a deep gash in the upper left-hand drawer - the top of the drawer. It's not a scratch but a deep gash. I have pictures of the damage. Just know - you get what you pay for - and you do not know until they show up who you are going to get as far as experience and equipment. Dolly would be okay if you are just moving junk out of your garage and/or something you no longer care about to Goodwill, etc. but if it's something dear to you and/or expensive, please think again. read more
