Jami gave me my favorite hair I've ever had in my life! I've been trying to get this blonde for yeaaars, my hairstylist of 10+ years never got me this blonde, and Jami did it in one day and only a few hours. My hair is soft, not damaged at all, I just have wavy hair so it can look a bit frizzy in photos. She gave me the most beautiful blonde and cut with no damage whatsoever, and her little dog is such a plus to have in the salon. I love it here. My stylist fixed up my a-line and the weird brownish blonde color a few weeks ago and since then it has faded to a nice even cherry red color just like she said it would. She was very accommodating when I decided to add a blonde peekaboo on the side. It wasn't as blonde as I wanted it since she did not want to damage my hair, so we made an appointment for me to came back to finish it for free. I have been to many salons in the past and none of them have made me this happy with my hair. Today I went into Dolphin Hair Design for a cut and color. My hair is super thick and in previous salons when I have requested for my hair to be thinned out, I have had unsatisfactory results. Michelle was my stylist and she was very accommodating and took the time to gauge my needs. As she began cutting she really took what I said into consideration and worked hard to produce the exact results I was hoping for. She even checked to make sure I was happy with the amount of hair taken off which I am particular about, before moving onto color. My hair was two different colors, medium brown on the bottom and dark roots on top. She colored my roots, giving me a beautiful, natural brown that matched the rest of my hair leaving me with a lovely solid color that fits my skin tone. I felt that she was very thorough, and her skill as well her genuine desire to make the client happy meant that I left the salon more than satisfied. I had seen Dolphin Hair Design by my house, so I decided to check them out. Their new salon is in a primo location, right in the thick of great eateries, bars and shops located at the Camp and the Lab. I called for an appt. and let me say, I am so thankful for doing so! My former hairdresser would take 3-4 hrs. to do color/cut/highlights, but Jami was super professional, super fast, super great! I tried out this salon in hopes of finding a gem closer to home. There were all 5-star reviews on Yelp, it was the second location for a long time salon in Costa Mesa and they were very friendly and accommodating when I called offering an initial cut/color for $75. I hate to write a poor review, but since I use Yelp often and the reviews on this page are deceiving, I think it's only fair to share my experience. I had an initial consultation where I told the girl that I wanted to touch up my highlights, and clean up my cut. The cut sent me home in tears. I had long hair, about to my bra strap with long layers. In the consult she told me that my layers had grown out and would I like her to add a few back in. I said sure, but I like them long. I couldn't see what she was doing while she was cutting, but upon being shown a mirror, it was by far the worst hair cut I have ever received. It looked like she had taken the middle of my hair and cut out a ponytail. It was uneven, choppy and short. I told her it was short. She said it was gorgeous. I went home in tears and sent the pic (here) to a couple friends and my mom. Everyone asked what the hell happened to my hair. The next day I immediately went to an AMAZING guy (Sean) at The Retreat and, using some awesome skills, he fixed the cut into an adorable shoulder length style. I recently went to this salon because I wanted a new look. I was greeted by a wonderful stylist, named Tristine. She consulted with me regarding my needs and wants. She was very helpful in deciding my cut and color. We had great conversation, and she was cheerful and pleasant throughout my time at the salon. Since having my hair done, where ever I go, I am complemented about my "new look". Everyone wants to know where I got my hair done. Even strangers at the market and gas station have complemented my hair cut and color. I have to say, that I have never received such positive reactions to a haircut, especially from strangers. I feel terrific, and it is all due to my new stylist, Tristine. By the way, the price was fair, and affordable.
