After the first bite of their mixed grill, I immediately understood why this is his favorite spot. This small shop can get busy, but it's well-staffed and efficiently run. The employees take pride in what they do. the cashier welcomes you with a smile, and the owner is always present, making sure everything is prepared correctly. The food is surprisingly delicious, and the portions are huge! definitely generous for a campus restaurant. There's plenty of seating inside, with additional tables outside. The ordering style is similar to Chipotle: you pick your base and sides, and they build your plate right in front of you. Smart and familiar. I come through UConn often, and Gansett has become one of the reasons I enjoy stopping by Storrs-Mansfield. If you're in the area, give them a try. I'm sure you won't regret it!

Other than meat, they source a rather remarkable amount of products given the relatively small size of the store. They have a couple of higher end pet foods, sheep products, some craft sodas, and really just a number of other odds and ends. Service is great, and you can tell they have a stream of regulars. I probably won't stop in every day, but I do hope to make it in every two weeks or so. This is easily the best food I've found within a stone's throw of UConn.

Hot tip: they actually have two additional spice levels called "off menu" and "double off menu," but eat at your own risk. We witnessed two brave people trying it, and they had to briefly step out of the restaurant and chug boxed waters. Regular flavors are country (no heat), mild, medium, hot, and haven. I explained that I had just given my name when asked and expected to wait. She spent the next twenty minutes complaining about being too busy and dealing with impatient customers. Too bad, could have been a perfect experience. Over a 70 minute wait for an 8 person order mid-day on a quiet Saturday indicates they have a logistics problem. They serve breakfast options, sandwiches, wraps, salads, coffee, and ice cream. I love going to a creamery where I can order something different that I've never had before. My eyes lit up when I noticed they had lemon meringue ice cream, and I was not disappointed. My small cone came with a generous scoop of ice cream and was very reasonably priced. It was nice and creamy, and packed with flavor. Absolutely delicious. The shop has both indoor and outdoor seating.
