I've seen some of the negative reviews regarding the food quality and I had a completely different opinion after devouring my food! What's unique about this truck is that it's a Japanese/Mexican taco fusion truck, which explained the long line I saw and is probably the 1st of its kind that I've ever seen. The menu is pretty much classic Mexican though with tacos, burritos, quesadillas and bowls with a Japanese twist/ingredients. For those who have big appetites they also have "combos" consisting of basically just more food on top of single orders (i.e. 3 or 4 Tacos Mix and Match, Burrito + Taco, etc) After some thought I ordered the (Steak) Burrito + (Chicken) Taco combo for a reasonable flat $10. This would've probably cost me $12-$13 at Chipotle. The taco was served in a tupperware. It wasn't really put together well because it just fell completely apart. If anything it seemed like all the ingredients were just thrown together on top of some soft flour tortillas. Disregarding the presentation, the combination of ingredients (salsa roja, salsa verde, soy miso slaw, sesame crema) was VERY GOOD! I was pleasantly surprised at how well all of those mixed together in a taco form. As for the burrito, it was humongous! There was a ton of rice inside, but in no way did they shy from filling it with plenty of steak as well. It was a typical burrito with beans, cheddar, monteray jack. In addition, they threw in the salsa verde, soy miso slaw and sesame crema. If I didn't know any better I would've thought they had spicy mayo in there instead because there was a spicy flavor to it. Anyhow, I felt the ingredients mixed together perfectly and it absolutely gave a good representation of a burrito, but at the same time confused me a little with the Japanese spin. The fun Fruit Ninja like graphics caught my eye so I decided to give it a try. $8 for a veggie bowl consisting of black beans over white rice in one compartment, and four other splashes of stuff (pico de gallo, some crema and pickled ginger that resembled a cabbage slaw mix, salsa verde and an edamame guacamole that was super YUM) over white rice in the second compartment of my plastic to-go container. Another popup truck I spotted on 23rd street and Park Avenue S. I thought this was going to be another korean taco truck but this in fact was a japanese-mexican taco truck. They have the usual 3 tacos for $8. Their MENU is a little different from the norm. KARE BEEF- This one was my FAVORITE out of the 3 I tried. (shredded curry beef, cucumber pineapple salsa, quesa fresco, creama) loved the curry taste with the salsa. I was a little disappointed that I didn't really taste the pineapple in the salsa. Maybe the curry flavor masked it? but this is a definite MUST TRY. FISH TEMPURA - ehh okay. I really like fish but this was nothing special. This was just fried fish and white sauce. Tasted like fried fish. the sauce was not good enough but it was a mouthful for a tiny taco. CARNITAS - ehh soso. I did not like that they had a big piece of pepperjack cheese stuck on the bottom. Korean tacos are the shit. If you didn't know, now you know. When the truck finally pulled up by my workplace, I was so excited. It was summertime (so yes, I was watching my carb intake), but...C'MON, THEY'RE TACOS. I was so excited that I probably set my standards too high. These tacos were nothing near what I expected. I had three tacos and it was MESSY--I'm talking about sauce-dripping messy, and not in a good way. I felt like I was picking out of a soup when I opened my container. Yes, they didn't have the right packaging to pack the tacos so by the time I opened them up, they were all lying flat next to each other, soggy, with the ingredients all scattered among one another. It was so hard to pick up each taco because the juice was just leaking. At this point, I didn't know which was which anymore but taste-wise, it was nothing more than average--and these tacos cost about $4-$5 each. Needless to say, these Korean tacos were not the shit. It was not a pleasant experience to have creamy taco sauce running all over my hands in a park with no water fountain. My Domo Taco experience came from the Bryant Park Christmas Village. I enjoy fusion food quite a bit and the California style Korean-Mex seemed promising. The menu is essentially a set of proteins and different ways of eating them, i.e. taco, burrito, burrito bowl, etc. There are actually vegetarian "protein" options which is really nice. I got a food reasonably quickly after ordering as well. I ordered the Kimchi Falafel burrito bowl which had rice, black beans, kimchi and a slightly spicier Falafel plus cheese and salsas (you can get more than one!). While the kimchi element was yummy I found the actual Falafel to be a bit dry and the rice and beans that made up most of the meal super bland. While I think this place is promising conceptually, especially in filling a void in NYC cuisine, I think the non-protein parts of the food need a little work to pull everything together. read more

I rushed back to my office to eat and they were delicious as always. I got three: shrimp tempura; falafel kimchi and pork. My only complaint is they lose heat on way back. After moving out to California, I've gotten well acquainted with how well Asian flavors go with Mexican food. It's literally a match made in heaven so I had relatively high expectations trying this place @ Broadway bites. They didn't have beef today :( so I went with the lemongrass chicken in a rice bowl. It was spicy and gingery, the meat was probably the best part of the whole bowl so I can't imagine the vegetarian options being too good here but who knows. The rice bowls come with rice + beans, cabbage, carrot slaw and this miso-based sauce (I think??) I also got hot sauce on top which helped tie it all together. $9 for all this seemed a little expensive but it was filling! I don't think it would be as good in a burrito to be honest. read more

I really, really, really wanted to like Domo Taco, so I'm disappointed that the food was so disappointing. The combination of Asian flavors on a taco sounded awesome, so when I saw the Domo Truck, I had to get some tacos. I got the three taco combo ($8) with the fish tempura, char siu carnitas, and teriyaki steak. The fish tempura, billed as beer battered fish with miso slaw and pico de gallo, was lost in a sea of raw vegetables. I couldn't taste any miso in the slaw, and the combination of slaw and pico de gallo overwhelmed the underseasoned fish. The char siu carnitas were a little better, but still had the same problem of being overwhelmed by the pico. I like big, meaty pork flavor when I order carnitas, but these didn't deliver. Worse, I couldn't even tell they were supposed to be char siu pork, which is one of my great loves. The teriyaki steak tacos were covered with a cucumber and pineapple salsa. I noticed a lot of pineapple on the taco, which made eating the taco sweet. The teriyaki steak just by itself was on the sweeter side, so instead of an awesome combo of savory steak and sweet pineapple cucumber salsa, I got sweet salsa and slightly less sweet meat. Very meh tacos. Smells a lot better than it tastes. I think it's supposed to be Asian tacos, but it was really hard to tell with how it tasted. I had the kare beef and the carnitas. The meat for both were rather tasteless, and it relied too heavily on the sauces for any flavor. The menu says that the carnitas pork is "char siu", but it didn't even taste close. The salsa on the kare beef was just weird. Pineapple didn't fit right, there was barely any cheese and I didn't taste anything resembling curry. The food was also lukewarm. Went to the Parked food truck rally at South Street Seaport on Sat and, after seeing the long lines at KorillaBBQ, decided to try the Japanese-inspired tacos from Domo Taco Truck. We had the 3 taco combo for $8-- carnitas, teriyaki beef, and lemongrass chicken. The carnitas taco was pulled char siu topped with Monterey Jack cheese and fresh pico de gallo. I detected a slight star anise flavor in the marinade and it reminded me of Chinese braised beef shin. Next up was the teriyaki beef taco-- thinly sliced ribeye steak marinated in teriyaki sauce topped with cucumber pineapple salsa and queso fresco. This was my favorite and I enjoyed the slightly sweet taste of the pineapple salsa which complemented the beef well. The lemongrass chicken taco topped with Monterey Jack cheese and pico de gallo was the biggest disappointment. I didn't taste any lemongrass and the chicken just tasted like chicken teriyaki without the teriyaki sauce. Although the tacos were on the small side, there was a generous amount of meat and not too much filler. We asked for hot sauce and this helped with the flavoring of the tacos but was not overpowering or too spicy. Domo Taco uses corn tortillas and while I would have preferred flour tortillas, the corn tortillas were not as dry and mealy as some corn tortillas I've had. I was asked if I wanted it spicy I said yes however I did not know spicy meant with sriracha added to it. It was the first time Domo parked around the office and I hope it becomes a regular fixture! Ordered the 3 taco combo - fish, chicken, and pork. Of the 2 types of fish offered, I chose cod (the other was tilapia). It was batter fried, but did not lose the sweetness of the fish. The chicken was a grilled lemongrass chicken and my favorite of the 3! You can taste the grill and the flavor was on point. The pork was a slow-braised five spice pork shoulder. My taco came with a huge chunk of pork shoulder. It allowed me to really taste the flavor that cooked right through and also taste how tender the meat was. Overall, definitely a fan. If You Can't Fold a Taco is it Still a Taco? Food: After not seeing Domo Taco for quite some time I decided to pay them a visit while roaming the streets of Midtown looking for a new place to try out. Since the line wasn't too long I decided to visit them once more. I went with the combo chicken quesadilla and fish taco. The fish taco has a good overall flavor to it and the ingredients work well together. However, the fish was stone cold when I ate it (about 5-7 minutes after receiving it). When ordering a dish of fried fish I expected the fish to be fried as the taco is being made. I wonder how long ago the fried fish was made and/or how long it was sitting on the counter and/or in the refrigerator. The size of the taco is big enough where you lose half the contents after folding it. In my case I decided to channel my inner laziness and used a fork and knife. The tacos may be large, but the quesadillas are larger. Each triangle is stuffed to the brim with the ingredients of your choosing (cheese and chicken for me) and topped with a delicious sauce. Make sure to eat them quickly when you arrive to your destination (hopefully within 5 minutes) because they will sweat making the quesadillas at the bottom soggy. The chicken is dark meat (I'm assuming) which isn't an issue, but it doesn't look too appetizing. It isn't dry, but has no flavor to it, hence copious amounts of sauce is needed. I was happy the quesadilla was warm after the cold taco. A combo of a taco and quesadilla is enough to make ones stomach expand to sizes never imagined. If you are hungry after this meal, then congratulations you fall into the 1% of people whose stomach is bigger than their eyes. Speed & Service: Overall the service is standard. The staff is helpful to newcomers with questions about recommendations. The speed of service is above average. You will receive your food rather quickly after ordering it, unless the line is exceptionally long that day. Overall: 2.49 Stars For the price you receive a large quantity of food, with below average quality. The lines are long, but service is rather quick so the wait time isn't bad. Friendly staff. Food: now for the main event. The food. The tacos were made with doubled up corn tortilla, meat, salsa, slaw, and some kind of chipotle/sesame sauce on top. I liked it but I didn't go too crazy for it. I felt like it was difficult to eat. The chunks of meat kept on coming out when I didn't want it to every bite. A little not pick. I would've liked the steak shredded. The chicken was great. This was my favorite taco of the three. It had a nice smokey lemongrass flavor to it. It was very subtle but just enough to characterize the taco with a unique taste. Then the fish. The fish was a battered fish (assuming it is tempura batter although it looked not as fluffy as tempura). I usually don't like fish tacos and they definitely pulled this one off. The light and flakey fish made the taco taste delicious and satisfying. The slaw and seasame sauce was a good combination with the fish. While walking around Broadway bites 34 street, I stumbled upon domo stand. I passed by two people eating what it looked like was two bowls and I decided to try. I chose the teriyaki steak bowl. The choices were 3 tacos for $9, a burrito $9 or a bowl for $9. There were choices of chicken, pork or steak $9 and shrimp tempura or fish was $10? The teriyaki beef bowl came with a side of tomatoes salsa and red cabbage salad as a side. The beef was over white rice and slathered with mayo sauce. It was very heavy. My friend and I wanted to try a variety so we opted to get the combo of any 3 tacos +1 extra taco and a share. Sadly, by about 1:15pm on a Thursday, they were already sold out of their Kare Beef so we just got fish and carnitas instead. We also ordered the Japanese tator nachos. Overall good flavor combinations but definitely lacking heat so don't walk away without hooking your food up w/hot sauce if you so desire. Also, don't expect huge honking portions but I'd say the substantial protein + toppings + corn tortilla x 2 + 1 side is enough to satisfy lunchtime. The fish taco in particular had a good amount of fish and plenty of salsa. The tator nachos are fun but again no spice or heat. This food truck is often in front of my office so I decided to give it a try. I did not have the greatest experience. I ordered a Quesadilla and Tator Tots. Everything is drenched in sauce. I caught myself scraping crema off of the tortilla just to make it edible. The tots were okay but they were also drenched. They also had no steak, and the chicken wasn't very impressive. Now I don't know am I just lucky to escape from the bad side of Domo Taco or people are just unlucky but like many have said, I'm quite surprised by the low rating that Domo Taco got. My first encounter with Domo Taco was at Broadway Bites and I quickly felt in love with the quality, taste and size of their tacos. In the recent days, I was super excited to find out they come by the FiDi (Hanover Square) on Fridays, I was a regular there every single Friday for the last 4 months or so (it was my Friday ritual and I even announce it loudly at the office before I send myself off) It was the one day that I look forward to when it comes to lunch time! (if you know FiDi, cheap quality food options can be limiting) I usually hit up the Domo Taco truck around 1pm every Friday at the Hanover Square location and there is always a line! You really never know where they are going to be unless you check Twitter for their location but it just happens every Friday they are here so lucky me ;) There is more than one truck, the two I remember seeing were the lime green one (super easy to spot) and the military green one. The process to order is quite simple, you first choose your carbs: Burritos, Rice Bowl, Quesadilla or Tacos and a protein: Lemongrass Chicken, Braised Five Spice Pork, Teriyaki Steak, Fish Tempura, Shrimp Tempura, Kimchi Falafel, Black Beans and Guacamole Then let them know if you have any dietary restrictions or else they'll rain down the following into your order: monterey jack and cheddar cheese, black beans (none for tacos and Quesadilla) , miso slaw, pico de gallo, pickled daikon/carrots ((none for tacos and Quesadilla), and hot sauce. Then you pay and walk away happy! I tend to go for the 3 for $8 tacos combo, it's inexpensive and it lets you try a variety of proteins. My go-to choices for proteins are: Braised Five Spice Pork, Fish Tempura and Kimchi Falafel Braised Five Spice Pork: When I first started coming, I never dare to mess with the pork and steak because most of the time, it gets hard and rubbery so I stick with the Fish Tempura and Kimchi Falafel. BUT then one day I don't know what hit me, or I was just in an adventurous mood, I said Braised Five Spice Pork and my life was changed forever. Seriously these had to be some of the most flavorful pork I have had in a truck, you can taste the five spice, especially the star anise. They usually shreds the pork but some days you'll come across a whole chuck of pork in your tacos and JACKPOT! that's when you realize Domo Taco ain't cheap with their proteins, and I hit that JACKPOT pretty often!! The flavored pork, topped with a pile of monterey jack and cheddar cheese, miso slaw, pico de gallo, cream and hot sauce- truly a flavor texture overload to your mouth! The well seasoned miso slaw was crunchy, the pico was chewy, oniony, the mixed cheese was light and creamy, add the generous portion of cream and hot sauce! YUMMMM- PERFECTION- MUST GET!! Fish Tempura- Sometimes you get lucky and you get fish tempura that's right out of the fryer! not all the time but these happens pretty frequently so I'm always happy about that. The fish tempura was super delicious, it was lightly battered, well seasoned and a generous amount. I love how light the fish is, you bite into it and you want to say it's so fluffy I want to die!! but what a deadly combo it makes especially with the miso slaw, pico and mixed cheeses, it's like a big party in your mouth while feeling healthier cause you are eating fish! Kimchi Falafel- On the topic of feeling healthy, someday when I feel fat, I'll go for the Kimchi Falafel (sadly I order two pork ones on top of this). When I first had Domo, this is my true go-to until I discovered other options. It's all about the flavors and texture here folks, the Falafel is fried, light and fluffy and you top that with the slightly spicy, sour and crunchy Kimchi and BAM you got yourself a winner. No matter how far I venture away, this will always be my comfort food choice! Service: People in the truck are usually super hip and it's always fun to catch them dancing while preparing your food! No attitude, just fun and friendly people. Price: Very reasonable- It's hard to escape from a $10 lunch at the FiDi so 3 tacos for $8 = SO WORTH! Overall: Love Domo Taco!! I'm always impressed by their quality, taste and their generous portion (something you don't see a lot in food trucks), it's not the best tacos in the world but with that price and that quality, it's pretty hard to beat. if you had them before and was disappointed, maybe it's time to give them a shot again and make sure you eat with your hands this time so that flavor can seep into your nail and remind you how good your lunch was! read more

Tried out the Domo Taco truck when it was parked outside my office in FiDi. Ordered the 3 taco combo with chicken, steak, and fish. Also ordered the nachos. All of it was strange. The ingredients and pairings don't work at all. They use a lot of heavy sweet sauces which left me feeling bloated and gross. Never again. I'd hold out for Korilla instead. read more

I came here once I heard that Broadway Bites/Urban Spaces were back at Time Square. I came here a few times but if you want the most bang for your buck, I suggest going straight for the burrito because they do not hold back. I tried both the Teriyaki Steak and the 5 Spiced Pork Shoulder. In the end, the 5 Spiced Pork Shoulder won due to the tenderness of it and how all the toppings in one way or another complimented that succulent pork. I was able to finish the burrito but it takes time and I would not suggest it for the faint of heart. The burrito is massive compared to the three small tacos which cannot compare is size. Seriously, if you put a Chipotle burrito next to this one; you'll be wondering if this burrito has been juicing to get this big. I came by with couple of co-workers and we all agree that the burrito is the way to go as its amazing in terms of flavor profile along with texture and a perfect concoction of the East meets West. However, I do have some complaints as I wish the flour tortilla was a better vehicle to handle this massive burrito instead of completely falling apart and having to fall back on a fork and knife to finish the job. I would definitely come back here and plan to in the coming weeks as it reminds me of Korilla (Another East Meets West Burrito Food Truck/Restaurant). This food truck is kind of intimidating. Sometimes I like to take a gander at what's on the menu, but the guys working here aren't encouragers of gandering. They want to know right now, what is it you want. So I've been scared into purchasing here a couple times now. I'm only half kidding, but these guys have one goal in life, and it's to get you to eat some Domo Taco. This place markets itself as a Japanese - Mexican mash up. The sauce and vegetables represents the Domo side, while the taco is the Taco side. I've had all the tacos as well as the Japanese tots, and I'll say that the Domo side is way too saucy and vegetably. I think I ended up drinking my Japanese tots. I was really looking forward to my usual GORILLA CHEESE Truck-Wednesday but alas, they were no where to be found. In it's place, on 47th & Lex, was DOMO TACO...so I gave it the old college try! I am no foodie SNOB!!!!! For $8, I got the combo of Chicken and 2 Fish Tacos. They were pretty good, a little smaller than what you'd get anywhere else. They may even be considered the appetizer combo. Although after eating all 3, I was quite satisfied. The fish tacos were actually my favorite. They give plenty meat. They were delicious, tasty and quite scrumptious. After reading some of the reviews, I kinda regret not ordering the KARE BEEF taco...Next time for sure! (Oh wait, when is Lent over?) Really, for the price, for the taste you can't get in this area (who else makes Asian inspired tacos in East Midtown that is so easily accessible via food truck?) the convenience and for the nifty recycled container they come in (yay, new Tupperware!!!) A nice choice outside my company on a freezing Thursday day! Everyone suggested to me to try their taco yet I got the steak bowl. More than satisfied. Loved their salsa sauce which tasted fresher than elsewhere. read more

Domo Taco - Japanese Near Me

I have seen this food truck around and decided to give it a try. I have to say, I was disappointed bc I was really looking forward to trying food from here. I got three tacos: Teriyaki Steak, Braised Five Spice Pork and the Shrimp Tempura. Three tacos for $8 is great. The people working at the truck are very nice and the service is very fast, but the food I received was not as good. There was just way too much sauce. I had to scrape everything off the taco, pull apart the tortilla and pick out what wasn't drenched in their crema and eat that with the cleaner, less saucy tortilla. In addition, there was not enough meat on the taco. The steak was very flavorful. I enjoyed the very small amount that ended up in my taco. I really wish there were less toppings and more steak. Same with the pork. It was tasty but there were only 2 small pieces in my taco and only 1 piece of shrimp in my last one. The shrimp tempura was good, but the breading was definately soggy, which could have been from all the sauce. I am not saying this is an experience everyone will have since this truck has gotten good reviews, but I was expecting a lot more. I will be returning sometime to get another experience with something else on the menu, so I do not discourage anyone from trying this place at least once. Having heard great things about how delicious the temporary pop-up stands were (by Times Square), I decided to venture out one day during my lunch break. Since I arrived around 1:30pm, most of the lines have already subsided since it was slightly past lunch. Despite this, you could easily still smell the grills cooking a vast variety of food, ranging from tacos to lobster rolls, bowls, among others. Beware, not all of the stands accept cash! I walked by Domo Taco and was intrigued with the aroma that it emitted, which was how I picked my prey. Reasonably priced at three (Asian cuisine styled) tacos for $9, I asked the employee what he recommended and he immediately suggested the steak, brisket, and the chicken. His quick response showed me that these were most likely the fan favorites and I went with his suggestions, which did not disappoint at all. Of the three, my favorite was the brisket as it was juicy and super flavorful, although the chicken came in at a close second. Despite the steak being my least favorite, that's not to say that the steak wasn't good; the others were just significantly better. These tacos were so good that I eventually had tacos again from a different restaurant two days later, which really wasn't as satisfying. Alas, I went to Domo Tacos again a week later but was disappointed to see a long line, which went by pretty quickly. This time, I stuck with the chicken and brisket tacos and tried the shrimp tacos, and was slightly disappointed with the shrimp. There were also a few pieces of shrimp shells that weren't peeled correctly, which took a few brownie points off due to carelessness. Domo Taco is not the best Asian taco truck out there--but it's certainly not the worst. Should you be in the need for a quick taco fix, go ahead and indulge in their reasonably priced tacos or quesadillas. My personal favorite is their rice bowl, topped with braised pork shoulder which is soft and flavorful. I loved the crunchy purple cabbage and carrot sides to balance out the otherwise heavy dousing of cheese and beans. My favorite part of Domo Taco truck? The very fair pricing. All the proteins are the same price point, meaning that you won't be guilted into getting only the chicken or veggie option like you normally do. Now you have the freedom to try all the proteins with each visit. Score! read more
