She was confused, didn't have a clue on what this place is and didn't quite understand the process to pick any topping and build your own. I immediately felt the warmth upon entering this location. Maybe the AC wasn't functioning that day, but boy was it warm. Anywho, onto the food part, it was a Saturday, and there was no line. However, as I'm waiting for the burrito to be warmed I noticed the majority of the items were running on empty (peppers and onions, corn and lettuce) When she asked me what I would like, I'm hoping the employee grabs a new one, but she doesn't. Instead she just scrapes what's barely left of the peppers and onions and the lettuce, which I took issue with, but didn't say anything. The burrito didn't taste awkward or anything once I finally ate it-- just thought they should have replenished what was there. It's not like it was a busy day. I was left disappointed and hungry after service descended into chaos under the weight of excessive orders being taken simultaneously! I placed my order at 12:35 pm on Grubhub for pick up. I did not get my food in hand until 2:25 pm. At first, I was handed a bag with the wrong order, I sent it back and 10 minutes later was handed a bowl, no bag. I had to politely ask they place it in one for me. When I finally sat down to eat, I sadly, found my Brussels sprouts cold and onions partially raw. Despite the challenges posed by the avalanche of orders, the staff worked tirelessly to salvage the situation. I can not fault those hard-working people too much for the food being sub par. Instead, I blame Grubhub for not allowing users to easily cancel orders that stretch beyond a reasonable amount of time. I will be emailing a complaint to them. Dos Toros is close to my office when I'm working in Midtown - I've always been curious to try it out but had gotten around to it. The other day, one of my colleagues alerted me that they were having a special BOGO free for their bowls, and suggested we grab some lunch. You didn't have to tell me twice, so off we went. A lot of reviews here compare Dos Toros to Chipotle; I haven't been to the latter since I was in college, but it seems that they serve similar fare. The company has their roots in San Francisco, and specifically reference Mission in their marketing. I've actually had burritos from Mission while visiting SF, but can't compare since I had one of their bowls. Besides burritos and bowls, they also have a selection of tacos, quesadillas, and salads. Anyway, back to the bowls - like other fast-casual spots, you have the option to choose your base, add your protein, and then accent it with veg and sauces. The pulled pork was speaking to me, so I decided to get that over rice with pinto beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and hot sauce. I really enjoyed the bowl - the ingredients were fresh, had lots of flavors, and it was the perfect lunch size. Overall, I had a good first experience at Dos Toros - the food was fresh, and they have a decent menu selection. I noticed there are a number of locations in the NYC Metropolitan Area, and would have no qualms stopping in one of them if I'm in their vicinity. Dear Dos Toros, We love your food & don't mind the long lines but please don't scam people. On a busy lunch hour today, I decided to try the Verde Chicken bowl with regular rice. The servers firstly appear blunt, and while it may not be their fault due to the long lines, it does turn off a customer. Secondly, they added grilled onions/peppers by mistake and asked me if I was okay to "pay extra". Thirdly, the lady at billing counter completely messed up my order - she charged me for a cauliflower rice & guac which they added without asking me. The service and ambiance is pretty good here. The location is good and the people are very friendly/nice. The MOST important part about restaurants is the food however.. The amount of chicken they put on my quesadilla was abysmal. it was basically a rice and cheese quesadilla that costs wayyy too much for that. I got a side of sour cream and that was about 1/5 of the way filled up. I probably wouldnt have reviewed this, and just not have gone back - but they did request me to leave a review. The food tasted fine. The corn and pico were fresh. However, some lettuce pieces were dark and did not visibly look fresh. I wished the portion was a little bigger (the bowl was smaller than Chipotle's for about the same price). My main complaint was a communication issue with a staff member. The staff member asked, "What else?" (a typical question), to which my mother replied lettuce. The staff member kept repeating that one phrase while not moving, to which my mother replied the same thing: "Lettuce." She thought he didn't understand her because he wasn't reaching for the lettuce and was also not changing his wording. After a few repetitions of that interaction, he added the lettuce, and we then asked for the tortilla chips. The staff members then started talking to themselves about how they liked to do lettuce last and why they liked doing it last. That preference is completely fine! BUT I wish they clarified that they heard my mother say lettuce instead of simply repeating the phrase "What else?" or rephrased the "What else?" to something along the lines of "Is there anything other than lettuce you would like?" One could argue for both sides (which is fair), but the staff members could have directly explained their preference for putting lettuce last instead of talking amongst themselves about it in front of us. Over the last 4 years I've religiously have gone to dos toros in midtown 2/3 times a week as it's super close to my job. Over the last 2 year the quality and portion have decreased tremendously. What I liked about the food here is that it was really fresh. The burritos are longer than your usual so it's very filling. I got the steak guacamole, black beans sour cream cheese , mild Salsa burrito and it was soo good. they have a free water station and plenty of seats in this location. The lines moved very fast so I would definitely come back. Where to start with Dos Toros? Well, it's easily my favorite burrito in New York. I'm fortunate enough to work around the corner from this Dos location and come here quite often for lunch. The ingredients are fresh, along with a healthy serving size and to top it off, the best (and in some instances, hottest) hot sauce out there. Highly recommend asking for the "double dragon" when asked about sauce, which is a combo of the mild and hot. Also, it's always neatly wrapped and never falls apart on you - and important staple to the quality burrito. Lastly, they've streamlined the ordering process so well that even in a huge lunch line, you'll be in and out in under 5 minutes. This is by far the worst Dos Toros in Manhattan and Ive been to at least 3-4 others over the years. Usually Dos Toros is good to great, but if they all were like this one on Lexington they would have folded a long time ago. Attitude from everyone on the assemblyline making the food and the burrito tasted off and gross. Not like its usual self. It felt like the tortilla was super thin and gummy, the guac was old and heavy on cilantro for some reason, onions and peppers were cold, beans watery. Gross.
